General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Health Notes | No health conerns.  Other Dogs | Tabby is good with other dogs. She wants to play all the time, so she is working on learning to leave other dogs alone when they don't want to play anymore.  Cats | She hasn't been around cats, but is a gentle dog and would most likely do fine. Children | Tabby hasn't been around children recently, but with people in general is shy and hesistant at first but then very cuddly and loving. Training | Tabby is incredibly smart and eager to please. She knows "sit" and "down" and is currently working on "stay". Continued training will be necessary to help her build her confidence. She doesn't love getting in the crate but does well once in, and sleeps all night in it without barking or crying. We are working on crate training and she is getting in the crate more happily every day. Tabby has an incredible nose and would porbably love to do scent work.  Leash | Tabby is working on her leash manners - she is very curious and wants to smell everything. We have had success with a head halter. She becomes distracted when she sees other dogs, people, animals, etc. but doesn't bark. She does much better when running.  Activity Level | Very high. Tabby is young, athletic, and very smart. She thrives with high amounts of engagement and activity, and could be a unbelievably loyal companion for an active and adventurous human! She loves running, which is a great outlet for her pent up energy. She plays fetch like a pro and will play all day if you let her. She will even play in the dark, using her nose to find the ball. She also enjoys slow feeders and food puzzles for mental engagement. Tabby would do well with another high energy dog to play with. As long as Tabby is given good mental and physical stimulation, she can settle down to rest throughout the day, and sleeps through the night like a champ.  Personality | Tabby is a super sweet and curious young lab, but she lacks confidence. In her short life she has really lacked stability and consistency, which has resulted in anxiety. Despite all of this, Tabby does not have a mean bone in her body. She whines and barks for attention, but is learning quickly that those behaviors won't be rewarded. She is unbelievably smart, picking up on new rules and commands very quickly.  Her big brain also makes her a bit mischevious, she loves finding your shoes or socks and coming to show them to you in an attempt to get you to play. Ultimately, she is a dog who will be bored (and potnetially destructive) unless consistently challenged both physically and mentally.  Tabby is very tall and skinny and is definitely unaware of the length of her own limbs!  This little baby giraffe loves to play with toys, both fetch and tug. She is scared and hesitant around new people, and tends to bark. However, as she gets comfortable she is really sweet and playful. She is much more nervous around men than women, but is being gradually exposed and desensitized. She loves to give kisses and squeeze herself into the tiniest gap on the couch as long as she can be beside you. Her motto in life seems "like it or not I will love you!".  Story | Found as a stray in rural Texas. Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $475. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Health Notes | Ranger is low heartworm positive and will require treatment with antibiotics. MHLRM covers the expense of treatment at approved vets. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, healthy lives. Don't let this discourage you from adopting Ranger! Other Dogs | He is dog friendly. Despite being 2x bigger than the four (4) other dogs in his foster house, he is the most gentle. Cats | He is cat friendly. No issues or concerns with the cat in his foster home. Children | Ranger adores the 11-year old boy in his foster home. He sleeps in the room with him.  Training | He can sit, shake, lay, stay, and come. He enters the crate on command but does not require crating while his foster is gone. He has done great when left out alone. Leash | Ranger walks really well on a leash! Activity Level | Don't let his middle age fool you. Lots of pep left in this salt and pepper boy! Personality | An absolute dream. Ranger is an easy-going, well-mannered dog. He is what we call a "turn key" lab meaning he will come into your home and adjust perfectly with little work. Anyone will be lucky to adopt this gem of a dog! Story | We can't believe someone wasn't missing him. He was picked up as a stray in Texas, but not microchipped and no one ever came for him. Thankfully MHLRM was called and now he's ready for a second life in Colorado! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Hi, I'm Kari! I'm a very sweet puppy with so much love to give to my future furever family and any dogs they might have! I get along very well with my big foster sister (a MHLM alum!!) and love to follow her around to learn about how to be a dog. I love to run and play, but I also am very good at self-regulating and will put myself in my crate for a nap when I get sleepy. I also love to snuggle! I'm very food-motivated so I will be pretty easy to train - I'll do anything for a snack! I'm doing pretty well with potty training, especially if I can go outside right after eating.  Of course, like all puppies my age, I am teething and will need some good teething toys to chew on, because I've got razors in my mouth that need something to do! I'm also doing well with crate training, and although I'll cry for a few minutes when I first go in the crate, I'll stay in for the full night without a peep until morning! Overall, I'm just the sweetest puppy, and my foster mama says I'm one of the best foster babies ever! I can't wait to meet. you!    Health Notes |  Other Dogs |  Cats |  Children |  Training |  Leash |  Activity Level |  Personality |  Story |  Thank you! Health Notes | Healthy Other Dogs | Loves other dogs! She has 2 foster brothers, 12 and 7 years old, and is amazing with them. They play all of the time. Zero food aggression. Cats | She has not been exposed to cats in her foster home, but she seems interested in chasing them on walks. Probably best with no cats. Children |  Sallie is a big puppy with a lot of energy who gets very excited and she may knock young children over.  Training | Sallie has had no training in her previous life. Thankfully, she is very smart and food motivated and is a quick learner. She also listens very well, she learned her name in a day. She knows that she must sit for meals and treats. And she also knows "down". Sallie has a fear of the unknown and will occasionally bark at people she does not know. She can be distracted from barking with treats or a tennis ball. Once she is properly introduced to a person, she is great and will LOVE you. She is potty trained, crate trained and uses a dog door. She currently sleeps in a crate in the bedroom, but has also spent a night in our bed and did not move all night. Leash | Sallie will pull while walking, but not constantly. She is walked 2-3 times a day and is getting better. Activity Level | HIGH! Sallie is an amazing athlete! She would make a great running or hiking partner, she is long and lean with amazing agility. She also plays a great game of fetch, always bringing the ball back and dropping at your feet. Sallie needs an active family. But, at night, she is a total snugglebug. She will curl up with you on the sofa all night. Personality | Sallie can be hesitant of new people, she needs some time to accept the person and realize that they are friends. Treats help tremendously with this process. Her foster family has been working on socializing her and she has made great progress. We had out of town family visit and it took Sallie about 4 hours to accept and love them. She is also getting better meeting people on our walks. We absolutely love Sallie! She is the sweetest. snuggliest, most loving foster we have ever had. She is always up for a snuggle session and those sessions are the best! It may take Sallie a bit longer to settle into her new home but, it is so worth the extra time. Sallie will need to continue her training and socialization in her new home.  Story | Sallie is one of 5 labs rescued from living in a car. Health Notes |  Other Dogs | He warmed up quickly to my 3 yr old dog.  He's playful and not aggressive at all!   Cats |  Children | Good with children!  He is a puppy still, so there is a bit of jumping that we've been working on, but he loves to play and snuggle with kids!  Training | We've been working on potty training and crate training.  He's picking it up quickly but still is a puppy.  He does go into the crate on his own and will sleep in the crate when he's just wanting to rest during the day.  He is starting to understand where to go when he needs to go potty and has been taking cues from our older dog to go to the back door.   Leash |  Activity Level | Gunnison is your typical lab puppy!  He loves to play and has energy, but once he's worn out, he'll crash for a few hours!    Personality | Wonderful puppy!  His personality is perfect for a family that is active, on the go, and has kids.  He wants to be a part of the action, but is not aggressive at all.  He rides well in the car too!   Story |  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Terry / Molly

Female Puppy Labrador Retriever (mixed) 20

General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.     Health Notes |  Oth... show more

General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.     Health Notes |  Other Dogs | Molly wants to play with any and all other dogs, typical puppy.  Seems to thrive having an older dog to follow and look up to and is learning to listen and follow commands by watching the older dogs.  When the grumpy older dogs growl at her she heeds their warning and finds something else to play with. Cats | So far so good.  She is curious about cats and will go up to the cat, but doesn't chase the cat when it runs away.  Still a little early to tell, but seems to be doing well and has enough fear of them to not chase.  She has found the litter box and that was not pretty.  Currently keeping a baby gate in front of the box works well to keep her from it. Children |  Training |  Potty training is going excellent.  No accidents at all in kennel at night, but does get taken out at night at 4 hr intervals.  During the day she tends to need to go more often, but has not had an accident in the house in almost 8 days.  She is learning to use the doggie door and uses it consistently when it is taped up and open.  Working on lowering the flaps.  She sits for treats, and is learning to come to her name "Molly" when called.  She seems to understand the word "no" when she's trying to chew on something she isn't supposed to and will stop.  She is learning to sit for wiping wet paws and does really well with having her feet touched and wiped.  Important to mention she is teething, and biting and chewing on anything she can get her mouth on.  We are working with redirection when those things are something that is not acceptable.  She enjoys cold, full size carrots to chew on, working those back teeth.   Leash |  Activity Level | Typical puppy energy...play hard for a couple of hours, crash hard for a couple of hours.  But I've never seen a puppy sleep so hard at night in her kennel.  And when she does wake, she will play with a toy quietly and not whine.  We are taking her out at 4hr intervals at night.  She has about an hour, first thing in the morning, of pure crazy where all she wants to do is bite and chew and play, but calms down after that first hour and settles.   Personality | So incredibly sweet, very laid back other than her crazy hour.  Self entertains well in a pile of toys.  She seems to do the best when other dogs are around though, and doesn't get into mischief.  When dogs aren't around, she can go exploring and find trouble, like any puppy.  As long as another dog is in the room with her, she seems to do what they do or play near them by herself.  She loves being outside, and would stay outside all day if we would let her.  Laying in the yard watching birds and cows seems to be a favorite thing to do.   Story |  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Health Notes | No health concerns Other Dogs | Loves other dogs and has regular exposure through doggie day care and dog parks. She will try to instigate play with other dogs and LOVES to be chased. She is sometimes over enthusiastic around play and assumes every dog wants to play with her, so she would benefit from training around when to recognize when other dogs don’t want to play.  Cats | Unknown Children | Gentle and calm with children though she may not always initiate contact - she tends to let them do their thing and she does her own thing.  Training | Knows sit and lay down. Completed a 6 session general obedience training.  Likes to have a job. She is not a fan of crates and does great hanging out on the couch when her humans are out. Extremely food motivated and very trainable. She is sensitive to yelling and responds best with positive reinforcement. She would prefer a calm yet assertive human who establishes clear rules. Leash | She does well on walks with a leash and harness.  Activity Level | Active - loves hikes Personality | Maggie is a sweet, curious, and energetic 1.5 year old, 55lb mix Story | Maggie was a stray from Guadalajara, Mexico. She had a foster family in Mexico for a brief time before she came to Denver. She only spoke Spanish when she arrived in Denver but is now bilingual. She is being re-homed because her owner is a single parent to a newborn and can no longer give Mags the attention she deserves (specifically around her activity needs). She is not being re-homed due to behavioral issues but would benefit from an assertive (vs passive) owner who doles out a lot of positive reinforcement.  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $375 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $325 for 1-6 years, $275 for dogs 7-10 years, and $125 for 11+ years of age. General Notes   Read below about all thing Petey! | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Health Notes | Happy & Healthy! Other Dogs | Do you have a buddy for me?!?! I really hope so! Having a buddy by my side helps me to be courageous when I see something new or confront scary things like the stairs and laundry baskets.  Cats | The cat seems like she'd be a nice buddy, but she makes weird noises. I can't get close enough to figure out the hissing. I am too scared to check it out closely. I hear that she might be fun to chase, but for now, I'm gonna keep my distance and avoid eye contact. Children | I love kids! Sometimes they are scary when they get in a big pack, but one or two at a time, even when they are howling and jumping are fun to hang out with. Their personal space boundaries are more my style than some adults. Some adults try to get me out of their pony tails and don't appreciate me or sniffing for eyelash mites. Training | I like to go to the bathroom outside and let myself in and out through the dog door. The deck stairs down to the yard are no problem for me definitely not as scary as the carpeted steps inside. My foster family likes to tell me sit, down, stay, but I'm either too busy leaning on them or doing my thing to figure out what they're talking about. I put it on my to-do list. Leash | When we go out the front, my people put me in a slip leash. I don't know what that's about. I like walking with my foster family and don't have much interset in choking myself like some of the other pups I know. Whatever though, it doesn't bother me a bit.  Activity Level | I am a busy guy. I want to sniff everything and run around to check to see if anything has changed since the last time I went out. I'll do chores with you (so long as you're not going up the stairs!), help you clean up the yard, check the stability of your block towers and be your right hand man for everything around the house. Personality | I really like people, but I'm a pretty cool dude. I keep my distance and observe from a far before I'll say hi to a new person. I like to make sure they're not up to no good. Even though I look large, I'm only about 40 lbs and want to play things safe. I like to take it slow with new objects too. You never know what is going to surprise you with a handsome reflection or a squeak. When I first got to my foster home, I couldn't resist an old bathroom popcorn rug. I knew that rug was mine the moment I saw it. Now that I'm gaining confidence, I don't play with it as much, but I still like to have it around for a good shake or nibble or just carry it around. Baths are pretty nice, especially all the scrubbing. I like to sit in the water and let my foster mom lather me up really well. Getting rinsed isn't the best, but she says that it's necessary. I prefer towel drying to the hair dryer, but the dryer isn't scary and I don't mind air drying. When I get let out of the bathroom, I love to play. I'll show you how good I am at bowing and doing my paw slapping and tapping happy dance. If you have to do errands, I'll hold down the fort. When you get back, I'll welcome you home with a great scooby doo like "How-roo!"  Story | Petey was surrendered by a breeder closing his business due to health issues. He is a purebred labrador retriever with a long pedigree of working dogs.  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age.
