General Notes | I'm Cam! Cam the Ham is what my foster parents are calling me. Read on to see why you should adopt me! Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Personality | I have the most gentle, understanding, and forgiving soul! I have experienced a lot of change in the last few days and I am always just so happy and loving! I'll make sure to really lean into you to let you know that I appreciate all the love and care you are giving me! I'm pretty laid back for only being about one year old, my foster mom thinks I might be closer to 3yrs old. I like to lounge around most of the day, but if you want to go for a walk or a jog or a hike I'm all about that too! Story | I was found as a stray in Texas. I'm not sure who or why someone gave me up, because honestly, not to brag, I am the sweetest and most loyal boy! Other Dogs | I love other dogs! I respect their boundaries, I can read their cues, and I'm fine to just be around other dogs that want to chill. I'm still new to my foster home with the 4yr old resident lab, but so far so good! I like to have short wrestling sessions with her, but we get tired pretty quick. I'm curious of other dogs when I'm out for a walk, but I do not park or lunge at them. Cats | Children | I'm currently living with a 5yr old and a 7yr old and I will happily accept their pets all day! Their screaming and running doesn't seem to bother me much. I take treats so very gently from them and I promise that I don't even try to jump on them or knock them down. Training | I do have some manners, but I could still use some training. My foster mom keeps telling me "sit" but I have no clue what she is talking about. I don't jump on people or counters. I like to watch people and dogs walk by the path outside the back fence and sometimes I will bark if the resident dog barks. I have mastered the stairs, which I had never experienced before. I'll pretty much do anything for a piece of cheese! Leash | I went for a walk with the resident dog and my foster mom today and I did great! I like to sniff and mark on a lot of things, but I'm new to this area so I have to check it all out. My foster mom was able to walk both us dogs, a combined 150lbs. I would probably benefit from a harness with a front clip until I get some more training on how to walk politely on a leash. Activity Level | I'm pretty chill, but of course I'm still adjusting. My energy pretty much matches the energy level of the people around me. I'm able to be left home a couple days a week without being crated for 4 or 5 hour intervals. My mom watches me on a camera, and I pretty much just sleep by the front door waiting for her to come home. Health Notes | Cam is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. He is also currently being treated for a post-op complication from his neuter, hence the cone. This treatment along with his HW treatment simply consists of taking 3 pills in the morning and 3 pills in the evening that he easily takes with his breakfast and dinner. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Cam! Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $475. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
