General Notes | LOVES KIDS, Loves dogs, Loves lounging at home, and loves long walks to the Dog Park! Sweet, aloof at first, then follows you everywhere! Loves attention, but not needy. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Health Notes | Hope is heartworm positive. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment with one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. She takes her medicine with food no problem. Don't let this stop you from adopting Hope! She also had itchy ears, but not an infection (no smell). I cleaned her ears twice and it seems to have helped significantly. Other Dogs | Great with dogs in her foster home! Totally non aggressive with other dogs. Went to a dog park, did a lot of sniffing, started playing chase a little bit wth other dogs. Always smiling, no problems at all. Cats | inital meeting went well, need more exposure to be sure Children | Great with kids!!! LOVES them!! Training | Rides well in a vehicle, very calm. Working on learning basic commands. Doesn't respond to her name, I have started calling her Honey because she is so sweet. Making good progress regarding going potty outside on a leash! Leash | Walking well on a leash. Sometimes circles (wraps me up) but is easily redirected. Is interested in rabbits and squirrels, but not unmanageable. I think this won't be hard to overcome. Activity Level | She was described as eneretic but she has been super mellow in foster home. Started playing chase a little bit with other dogs at the dog park, and plays with her 4 foster siblings. Hope would do best in a house with lots of activity since she does not like to be alone. She likes to be around people and lay in the same room while you work from home. Kenneling is not her favorite and will bark and scratch until she settles down and has been known to get out of a metal kennel. When she is outside in the yard, she likes to have access to her people either through a doggy door or being with her. Personality | Sweet, aloof at first, then follows you everywhere! Loves attention, but not needy. Loves sniffing on walks, makes a cute little engine noise when she is deep in a sniff. She would LOVE a home with kids and a yard and a TALL fence, or someone who is with her a lot. Story | She came from Arkansas a "rough" situation. She has some scars but is totally non aggressive. She had no desire to leave the dog park, and is happy to hang out with me and my dog on the patio, but she doesn't want to hang out solo, she will go looking for you! She even jumped the fence to come to look for her foster by the front door. She does have anxiety being left alone so we do well with a patient family with lots of kids and people always around. Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $475. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
