General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality |  Story | Mom and seven puppies were rescued by a wonderful person who took great care of mom and babies as they grew stronger. They are now 8 weeks old and ready for adoption! The finder loved mama so much he decided to keep her ❤️  Fossil is an absolute gem of a pup! Sweet, playful, and smart, he’s the total package. His natural curiosity makes him a fast learner—he’s already mastered “sit” and is making great progress with “stay.” Potty training is also going well! As long as he’s taken out regularly, like any puppy, he does wonderfully. He’s also a fantastic walking companion, keeping up on long strolls with his foster sister, and would probably enjoy the company of another dog. That said, he does love his humans a lot, too! With exercise and playtime throughout the day, Fossil sleeps quietly in his pen at night, only waking briefly for a quick potty break before settling right back in. He’s going to make an amazing addition to his forever home!       Other Dogs | Great! Playful and interested in other dogs.  Cats | Likely ok! He's super sweet and is a strong listener.  Children | Would do well! Training | Wonderful learner. Quickly picking up new commands and wants to please! Leash | Very well for a puppy! While there's still a lot to learn, Fossil enjoys walking on a leash.  Activity Level | Medium. Fossil has spurts of puppy energy and enjoys playing with you or by himself. He enjoys a good cuddle or nap in his bed after having fun. Health Notes |  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.  show less

General Notes | Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.     Personality | Ready to meet the perfect chocolate lab? Rudy is a happy-go-lucky young lab and loves to meet everyone! He is learning his manners very quickly and has picked up the "sit" command in less than 10 minutes. Rudy loves to play, go on long walks, and take naps - what more could you want?    Story | Rudy came from Arkansas, where little is known about his history prior to coming to Mile High. He appears to have been well taken care of and has quickly adapted to living in a house after being boarded at the shelter that rescued him. He shows no signs of anxiety or fear of people, which means he probably had a good life and definitely will continue to do so once he finds his furever home.    Other Dogs | Rudy loves other dogs and knows how to read their cues to back off as needed. He loves to try to meet other dogs on walks with his current foster and was previously with another foster who had 4 female dogs that got along well with Rudy.   Cats | unknown   Children | Rudy has been doing great with his current foster's two young children - he loves to play outside with them and has been very good about not jumping on them and playing gently. He loves to tuck them into bed each night and can't wait to see them each morning to play with him!    Training | Rudy has not had any accidents and does well in his crate (sleeps through the night in it and does great when crated for short periods during the day). He goes to the door when he needs to go potty and does his business and comes right back inside. Rudy is a quick learner - he learned to sit in less than 10 minutes, and he's food motivated, which means the sky is the limit with what he can learn. He pulls on the leash, but with a few minutes of work has been able to let an 8 year old walk him without pulling. This guy has GREAT eye contact and will do anything for a treat. He has also done really well distinguishing his toys from kid toys, which isn't easy to do around the holidays!    Leash | Does try to pull at first, but with some reminders of how to heel with treats, he does great!    Activity Level | moderate. He's still got a lot of puppy energy, but that's matched with a need to nap. He will be a great hiking buddy!   Health Notes | Rudy's vet check shows he is young and healthy and he is trim and muscular.    Thank you! |    Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Are you looking for a best buddy? Meet Brett, he can be suspicious at first but has record time of warming up to kids and adults. If he is afraid for a moment he will just move away but it only took a treat for everyone he has met. He LOVES dogs. He plays beautifully our 1 year old dog and it really helps to get some energy out. He is still learning what is a toy (he is new to them) and what is not but is easy to drop it and takes the correction nicely. Brett is very food motivated for training and so far has walked great on a leash and harness. When he is ready to sleep he will pick a cozy spot but also loves a good snuggle, as long as he gets to be around the family, he is happy. He is a true lover and would be a great addition to any home.  Story |  Other Dogs | yes, is a rambunctious but gentle play partner  Cats | unknown  Children | yes  Training |  Leash | does great on a lash and harness Activity Level | active  Health Notes | Brett is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Brett! Story | Rocky is easy like Sunday morning- calm, kind, loving and easy.  He is still unwinding from the whirlwind of being abandoned, saved from the shelter, then transported to Colorado to the MHLM foster home.  Through it all he is an amazing dog and doesn't show a mean bone in his body.  He is not reactive to any dogs-big or small, was curious but calm with the cat, and gentle with children.  He appreciates pets and hands you one of his soft paws and sometimes a kiss to show his affection.  Adopt this wonderful gentle-man of a dog and you will have a kind companion to live out his senior years.  He's just wonderful!   Other Dogs | good Cats | good Children | good Training | potty trained Leash | easy on or off the leash Activity Level | low Health Notes | Rocky is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Rocky! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Looking for a sweet, adoring pocket pal? Falls (or as his foster family calls him, Paul) is your guy! Not only is he snuggly, cute, and full of puppy wiggles, he's also smart, self aware, and respectful. Falls is in a foster home with three other dogs - both big and small, and loves to play with his foster siblings and hang out at his foster parents feet. He is happy to be wherever they are, and follows their lead with ease. Falls sleeps through the night in his crate (a huge puppy win!) from 10 pm to 6 am, is almost fully potty trained, and is a pretty laid back guy. He's not nippy (no land shark puppy teething here) and he knows to play with toys, not clothes or shoes. He travels well, and adores car rides, and is incredibly snuggly with his foster family.  Personality | Falls is a velcro pup, and really enjoys being close to his people (and furry siblings). He loves snuggles, cuddles, being held, and playing with everyone around him. He brings his foster parents toys, does zoomies in the yard, and is happy to settle in for a movie night, or more casual time with friends over. He will make an exceptional adventure pal, or brewery dog! Story | Falls and his seven siblings were rescued in Texas off of the streets at a few weeks old. The finder loved their mama so much that he decided to keep her, and her babies made their way to CO a few weeks ago! Falls is still pretty skinny due to his past in TX, so his fosters are working on fattening him up! Other Dogs | Falls LOVES the other dogs in his foster home, and is great with dogs of all sizes/ages! He plays with his two year old lab foster brother often, and follows him around the house. He plays but is respectful of the two chihuahua mixes in the house, too, and is often found trying to snuggle up next to them. He follows their leads well, and is mindful of their tones (when his foster sister gets snippy/is tired of puppy play, he knows to roll over or leave her alone).  Cats | Falls is cat friendly and loves to meet new kitties. He is good about keeping his distance and being respectful of their space, but will approach when encouraged by his foster parents.  Children | Falls is great with kiddos - he loves all people, but gets especially wiggly when tiny humans are around to play and snuggle him.  Training | Falls is crate trained, almost fully potty trained, and is working on leash training in addition to learning sit and down. As with all puppies, Falls is still little with lots to learn.  Leash | Falls will continue to need help with leash training as he grows up! Activity Level | As a young puppy, Falls will need an adopter committed to providing regular exercise, socialization and training. He currently has typical puppy energy. Plays hard, sleeps hard! He is snuggly and more mellow than most, but we always want to be forthcoming that puppy energy ebbs and flows! Health Notes | Falls is up to date on all vaccines.  Thank you! General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Benjamin, or lovingly referred to as Benny by his foster mom, is turning into such a sweet boy. His foster could hardly touch him when he left the shelter. Poor Benny was very afraid! But he is doing much better now and gaining confidence every day. We ask that Benny go to a home with another dog or two to help him continue his progress! Benny does great in a crate. He sleeps quietly all night. Foster mom has also left him for a few hours free roam and he has not been destructive. He’s happy to snooze on the bed or couch until you’re back! Potty training is going better now that he’s not as afraid. We imagine he will regress briefly when he transitions to a new foster home and ask for patience as he gets comfortable.  Story | Benny was a brought into a high-kill Texas shelter as a stray.  Other Dogs | Benny loves other dogs and will benefit from a home with another dog or two as he gains confidence.  Cats | Unknown.  Children | Benny is a very gentle, sweet boy. However, he is still timid around loud noises and quick movements. We recommend supervised intros with kiddos.  Training | Blank slate! Benny is quickly learning the joys of being a normal dog in a safe home. He will need a patient adopter to help him continue gaining confidence and trust. He is well-mannered and does not require a lot of correction at this time.  Leash | Benny is becoming better on leash. We recommend a tight harness + slip lead as loud noises sometimes startle him.  Activity Level | Medium. At this time, Benny is not overly energetic. This may change as he becomes more comfortable in a home. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.  show less
