General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality |Lillie is very gentle and sweet.  She is well behaved and generally listens well.  She is quiet and has only barked once when she saw her reflection in the sliding glass door.  She is calm but does like walks and meeting other dogs. She does very well on walks.  She will do well with kids. She won't run when let off the leash.  She sleeps well at night and loves her bed.  She follows me around the house.  She loves to go for rides in the car.  She is house broken. Story | A breeder closed down and she was rescued.  It appears she has had puppies previously.   She appears to be in great health. Other Dogs | Does well with other dogs and wants to play and is very social. Cats | Don't know.  I think she'd do fine. Children |Does well with children as far as I can tell. Training |Comes when called.  Well behaved. Leash |Great on and off leash.  Does not pull. Activity Level | Mellow and playful.  Likes to go on walks. Health Notes | Lillie is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Lillie! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.  show less

General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality Dingle is a very sweet, beautiful girl. Her tail is always wagging and happy. She wasn't very interested in playing with her other foster's two labs, but got along fine with them. She is on the thinner side and loves to eat! She rides well in the car, loves to meet people, and was very sweet to our neighbor's cat outside, so we know she will be great with any furry or little people friends that come her way!  Story | Dingle is one of the mama breeder dogs that were rescued from Missouri. She is underweight but gaining weight with her lab appetite. Other Dogs | Good with other dogs.  Cats | unknown but doesn't seem prey driven Children | Great with young and older children Training | loves snacks, so would likely be easy to train! General Notes | Looking for a little lovebug? Keep reading as Molly is your girl! Personality | Molly is fearless and will always be the first to check new things out! She is one of the smaller ones from the litter but that doesn't stop her from having a big personality! First to check out and play with new toys. But her greatest love is snuggling up and watching movies with her people. She also loves to fetch whatever you throw and will happily chase sticks in the yard! She likes to climb up on top of the couch and watch the world around her like she's a cat!  Story | Molly, her siblings, and her mum were saved from being euthanized due to lack of space at a large Houston shelter. Molly was only a few weeks old at the time. She was fostered along with her mum and siblings in a loving foster home until Mile High Labs agreed to take them all and they traveled to CO. They have since lived in the best foster homes with lots of loving humans and dogs.  Other Dogs | Molly's entire litter is being raised with other dogs and she loves them.  This is one socialized litter for sure! She loves to play with other dogs just like most puppies! Cats | She is being fostered with a cat and is doing well. She is very curious about the kitty and wants to follow him around and play with him. She is nice to him, but thinks he's another puppy to play with, which the kitty isn't a fan of. She's become more and more desensitized to the kitty the longer she's been living with her foster.   Children | Loves children!  We can't say enough, what a social and loving litter Molly comes from :) Training | She's just a puppy, but a smart puppy who loves to learn. Molly is super food motivated so training should be a breeze for someone willing to put in the time to train her. She's come a long way in training since she's been her foster home and can learn a new trick in just a few minutes! She's learned to ring the bells by the door and cry when she has to potty. She will let you know when she has to go out every time, but will have an accident if you wait to long. She is currently sleeping in her crate without a peep from 10PM - 6AM and does fine in the crate for a few hours when you leave the house. She has been following a puppy schedule (1 hour playing/2 hours of napping) and taking naps throughout the day in her crate. She's a smart, active little puppy who will need someone prepared to offer her all the training that a puppy needs! She would to be your new hiking or running partner! She's also happy to wear off her energy by chasing balls and sticks! She's already started bringing the ball back when you throw it like the good retriever that she is! She knows "sit" "drop it" "no" "come" "look" (when on a walk to get her attention when there's another dog or person she wants to play with) and has learned to sit calmy to get her leash on and off. She can get mouthy like most lab puppies, but with some consistency in training, has gotten better and better at only chewing on toys. Leash | Molly is getting better and better on the leash everyday! She doesn't pull too much unless she sees another dog or person that she wants to say hi to! She has responsed very well to positive reinforcement training on the leash and is learning that walks are fun! She gets a treat when there are people or dogs nearby to keep her from getting too excited at the prospect of playing with them! She loves treats and has been very quick to learn how to behave on a leash! Her recall is also getting better and she isn't interested in leaving your side if you do accidentally drop her leash (whoops!). Like any super smart puppy, she will need someone to keep at her training to keep up her new skills! Activity Level | Play and snuggle is what this girl is all about! She is more chill than her other siblings but still loves to play and explore. She can be distracted by throwing a toy for her to pounce on or playing tug with a rope toy! She absolutely loves to run outside, especially if it involves chasing a giant stick!  Health Notes | She had an check-up and vaccines on 2/23 and the Dr. said she is healthy as can be! She was 17lbs at the checkup. Her litter had a health scare when they were a few weeks old, but all recovered and are doing great now.  Thank you! | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Meet Buckley! This smiling, tail wagging handsome boy is ready to be the super star in your life.  Personality | Likes to be with people, seems to be a quick learner. He has learned to "sit" and is now learning "shake". Story | Buckley was rescued from breeder in Missouri along with a number of other dogs. He was not underweight but had a few wounds on his ears that are now healing. He LOVES to be with his people and is curious about new ones! He has made great strides in just a few days. He seems to have moved on from his past life of bad environment and treatment and is just looking forward. He immediately gave my wife kisses on her cheeks when when we took him off the transport van. He nuzzled both of us in the truck from the back seat on the drive home. He loves the outdoors and is excited for walks on the greenbelt and exploring the back yard. He is intelligent and wants to please. He is going to be a great dog for someone. He's looking forward to meeting you! Other Dogs | Buckley has been around dogs his entire life. He likes to be the alpha so we recommend slow introductions. He is still decompressing and adjusting to his new life.  Cats | Not known Children | Not known Training | He learned to "sit" in the first two days and is now learning "shake". He hasn't tried to do his business inside the house after the first day so he is now house trained. Leash | Walks like a dream on a leash, does not pull Activity Level | Medium, he is definitely past the puppy stage  Health Notes | Buckley is neutered and up to date on vaccines. He has good dental health! General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Miss Sammy is a big sweetie! It's taking her some time to realize she's deserving of love and attention but each day she lets herself enjoy more of the good life (walks, dog park, seeking out attention, access to good food and water). She walks well on the leash but gets a little distracted with the new found freedom and smells. She's a little apprehensive of new sounds and wood floor, but getting better! No interaction with kids or cats yet but she leaves the foster's chickens alone! Overall she's just a big sweetie that wants to be part of the family! If you want a loving and loyal campanion, Sammy's your girl!  Story | She came from MO as part of a large breeder surrender  Other Dogs | Has done well with the foster's older and younger energetic pups. She is curious about playing but watches from the sidelines while she continues to gain her confidence. Loves to be part of the action going on walks with the pack. She seems to show more confidence in the presence of other pups. She is very tolerant and seems to co-exist well. Cats | Unsure but she is unphased by foster's chickens. Children | Unsure but she is very calm and tolerant of other dogs so likely would do fine with kids.  Training | She doesn't appear to know formal commands yet but is eager to please. She's a stick tight so definitely won't stray from home.  Leash | Does well for likely never experiencing one before. A little bit of a "squirrel" mentality but expected since everything is new!  Activity Level | Taking things slow since it doesn't seem exercise was a regular experience for her previously. She loves shorter walks and spending time at the dog park with the pack.  Health Notes | In good health. She'll be getting a teeth cleaning during her spay surgery and through regular walks and monitoring food intake she'll be in great shape in no time!  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Bruce is a really sweet, velcro kind of lab. For a dog that never got to be a dog, he sure knows how to love people - all people! He loves to be close by, and often insists on making contact, whether leaning against you or pressing his head between your legs. Story | Bruce was used for years as a breeding male. He lived among a large group of other breeding dogs, mixed males and females. Other Dogs | Bruce does pretty well with other dogs, but can be a bit of an alpha. He is currently an in-tact male, so these behaviors may change after he is fixed.  Cats | Unknown Children | Bruce loves kids. Based on what we have seen, he may actually prefer children to adults. Very kid friendly. Training | Bruce has no training. He doesn't know any commands, but he is starting to respond to his name and generally comes when called, but that may also be driven by his desire to be close. He does not love to go into his crate and needs a little help sometimes, but once he is in there, he relaxes and does not cry, pant or panic.  Leash | Bruce has been walking ok on a leash for a dog with no experience. He does get excited about other dogs and may give a subtle growl on occassion. Again, things that can easily be worked on and may be naturally resolved once neutered.  Activity Level | Bruce is an average active dog. He loves to play and go for walks, but he naps well during the day and sleeps without disturbance at night in his crate.  Health Notes |  Thank you! Personality | Betty is named after the great Betty White, for her spunk and outgoing personality. Betty is getting a new lease on life here in CO! She is a very fast learner, and very smart. She is very cuddly and loves to come up to and ask for cuddles, kisses and just be around you. However she is learning her puppy independence now, she is with her sister in foster care right now and she does like to do her own thing without her. She likes to sleep on her own and will go and explore while her sister (Dolly) will hang with the people more. Betty is still the life of the party and loves to play balls (not fetch yet, but getting there) and run around with her toys in her mouth.  Story | Betty and her siblings plus older sister flew in a small airplane from a high kill shelter in Texas. For only being 8 weeks old she has done more than a lot of other dogs, and taking it all with stride. She has moved states, saved to live in Colorado!  Other Dogs | So far she has met big 80lb dogs to smaller 40lb dogs and has been great. She understands dog lingo already, being that the resident older lady of the house will let her know when they are too mouthy.  Cats | N/A but Being so young I am sure they will learn to love them Children | N/A but we will have a few kids over soon to show the puppies they are fun too.  Training | Very very food motivated (Her Lab is showing!). Betty is catching on to potty training quickly and learning to sit for her foods. She is very interested in the doggie door too; she watches the big dogs go through it and wants to try too. She is a big fan of her crate in her puppy pen and will go in there an sleep throughout the day.  Leash | learning in the backyard right now Activity Level | mid to high. Will run around for a bit then crash.. true puppy fashion.  Health Notes | Besides a little dry skin she is great. We are working on getting her fur nice and shinny again with good puppy food.  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. West Point / Ulises / Winston

Male Adult Labrador Retriever (mixed) 60 Large

Are you looking for a loyal, fun and intelligent companion to join you on all of your Colorado adventures? Look no further than Winston!... show more

Are you looking for a loyal, fun and intelligent companion to join you on all of your Colorado adventures? Look no further than Winston! 🏔️ 🐶  Personality | Winston is described as gentle, submissive and loving ❤️ He lives for adventure -- car rides, hikes, swimming in the creek -- you name it and he'll be there! Winston is very intelligent and knows a lot of cool tricks like sit, lay down, roll over, play dead and load up. His recall is top notch too! 👏 His trainer says he is one of the most eager to please dogs she has ever worked with.  Winston has suffered from anxiety in the past, mostly related to the crate, but has made a lot of progress thanks to his trainer and foster mom 😇 His previous home was in the heart of Denver with lots of noises and people passing by. We believe this added to his anxiety as he seems much calmer and relaxed at his foster home in a suburban area. Winston will do best in a home with a yard and a dog door so he can go in or out as he pleases ☀️🌳  He should not be in a home that requires him to be crated. This triggers his anxiety.  Winston is definitely a people dog. He LOVES to be close to his humans as much as possible 🥰  Because he is so well behaved and professionally trained, you can take him just about anywhere and that is what he prefers! Grabbing a beer on a patio? Winston can join 🍻 Time for a family hike? Don't leave Winston behind 🐕‍🦺 Need to run to the grocery store? If the temperature is right, Winston will chill in the car 🚙  Other Dogs | Winston is very dog friendly. He is currently in a foster home with other dogs of varying sizes 🐶  He will play with the playful ones and avoid the not-so-playful ones. He watches the other dogs and follows their lead. Winston should go to a home with another dog or two as he is more comfortable when left alone if he's with his "pack."  Cats | Winston should be in a home without cats. He does not respect their boundaries. He has lived around livestock like cows, chickens and pigs without issue.  Children | His current foster has young children that he really enjoys, especially the daughter! He loves anyone that will snuggle with him. Winston will make a fabulous family dog! Training | His previous adopter spent months working on his anxiety with a professional trainer. During this time, he learned basically any command you can imagine 📚  He recalls, knows fun tricks, walks on the leash like a pro, and stays pretty well but could use some more work. He is potty trained as well 😁  Winston is extremely motivated with food and enjoys "working" so training comes naturally to him. He would be a great dog to learn and work agility courses. Or an extra farm hand to keep you company on long days 🚜  Leash | Winston LOVES walks! He went to so many cool places with his previous adopter 😍 He loves to get out and see the world whether it is a local park or big hike in the Rockies ⛰️ He does not tug or zig zag on leash. He walks nicely beside you and respects others as they pass 👍  Activity Level | Overall, Winston is a fairly chill dog. He can become energetic when playing with other dogs but really prefers to just hang around his people. He does not fetch or destroy toys. His favorite activity is hiking, running or long walks.  Story | He was originally found in Mexico as a stray. After spending time in a foster home there, Winston traveled to Colorado to become a Mile High Lab. He was adopted shortly after and spent almost a year with his adopter. Winston experienced a lot of anxiety in the home and was ultimately returned to MHLM to hopefully find a home better suited for his needs. We have seen a big change in Winston's overall temperment and behavior since moving him to a new environment! Health Notes | Winston is up to date on vaccines, neutered and heartworm NEGATIVE. Although Winston has some quirks, we have learned his "issues" do not carry over to every environment. We are confident he will thrive in a home with the right adopters. Please don't hesitant to ask us questions about this handsome boy. We want him to succeed! 💕    Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Lightning is the sweetest little gal looking for her forever adventure! She is submissive, playful, adoring of her humans, and is quite the snuggle bug. She is passive with all other dogs in her foster home (mindful of both big and small dog boundaries), naps and sleeps well in her crate, and is quite literally, as fast as lightning! This girl loves to run, play tug of war, and carry toys with her. She is shy, sensitive, and a bit nervous around fast movements or loud noises. She takes time to warm up, but then is a complete pocket pal, following her people around the house.  Personality | Sweet, shy, submissive. Story | Lightning was pulled from a high kill shelter in TX and flew to Colorado with her seven siblings!  Other Dogs | Does well with both small and large dogs. Is very passive and receptive to their social cues. Rolls over if growled at, and follows the other dogs around when playing. She's very much a beta, and is a bit of a scaredy cat. Cats | Lightning has met one cat and did well. She is quiet and curious, and would do well in a home with kitties with an introduction.  Children | Lightning is somewhat tentative but doesn't mind kids! She doesn't mind being held, petted, or carried around. She gets a little nervous around loud noises and fast movements, and may do best with elementary school aged children and above.  Training | In Progress! Leash | She is learning.  Activity Level | Moderate Health Notes |  General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Personality | Marshall is an amazingly smart fluff! He was in his foster home for less than 24 hours and already had figured out that kitty toys are softer than puppy toys, so he loves to chew on them, not destroying them...so far.  His gorgeous little face and dark eyes will capture your attention, as will his snuggle-ability! He loves to hang with his people, but also with two labs and a kitten in his foster home. He is learning to play appropriately, getting cues from the other fur babies in the home, and is a diamond in the ruff. He arrived out of a horrible situation and is cherishing his newfound freedom. If you are ready for snuggles, and the true love of Marshall, get that application in! Story | Marshall was one of six puppies left to die in a dumpster in New Mexico. You would never know he had such a rough start, as he is so full of love and appreciation.  Other Dogs | Doing great with a full-bred Lab, as well as a Lab/Great Pyrenees in his foster home. He cherishes the company of other fur babies! Cats | Marshall is in love with a kitten in his foster home, and plays so appropriately, getting cues from her and understanding when it's time to quit. Children | Hasn't been around young children, but loves his people and no doubt will ADORE kids...I mean, HE'S A LAB! Training | Marshall came into foster without any training and is in the process of learning to potty outside, and use the puppy pad. Each time he goes outside, though, he knows it's POTTY TIME! He's also figured out the deck stairs (two of them) to get down into the yard and loves to follow his foster fur sibs down to romp around.   Leash | Not been on leash as of yet. Activity Level | Marshall is all puppy! He wants to play with anything and everything and is learning the appropriateness of chewing. He loves soft things to chew on but has also tried his harder teething toys. He loves his Lamb Chop toy which will be going home with him!  Health Notes | He isn't on any meds and is doing great! Thank you! | Marshall would love to settle into his new home sooner, rather than later. He's a ball of love and wants to please. Won't you come by and visit? He is equal parts couch potato and happy retriever. Definitely the golden retriever personality! Buddy is a gentle dog who loves being near you! Is content playing outside or with toys while you work. Anytime he meets a new person, he will put his head against you for all the love!  Story | Found in Texas as a stray. Traveled to Colorado to be a Mile High Lab! He is a little underweight currently and will need to put on some weight.  Other Dogs | Loves! Buddy is so friendly with other dogs. He enjoys playing and cuddling with them. He wants to play with a dog so much can bark at them but isn't in an agressive way. This wouldn't be a constant thing because the dog in her foster house doesn't play all the time and he lets her be. Cats | Unsure. Children | Buddy is gentle and friendly with children.  Training | This handsome pup has beauty and brains. Buddy is an intelligent dog. He is house trained and crate trained. He knows how to sit for a treat and eager to learn more commands. Leash | Buddy enjoys neighborhood walks. He does best in a harness or gentle lead. He can tug when excited. General Notes  This little girl is the perfect mix of personality and spunk, without having to be the alpha. First day in our home she loved following around our two-year-old lab mix. And when taken outside appropriately, has gone potty in the yard, not house! Incredibly affectionate. Brave enough to explore on her own but comes scampering back to people. And loves to take her nap in your lap. She is working on coming when called. She would be great in a house with another dog or solo.  She is smart. First 24 hours learned, after going potty, how to come in the back door. She also responded well to social skills given by resident dog and respected them. And did I mention, incredibly affectionate! There is no question she is a whole lot of lab as she is very food motivated - always a positive with house training.    Health Notes | Pup is in good health, was with its Mom until it was 7 weeks old Other Dogs | Loves other dogs Cats | Unknown, but young enough to be trained with cats. Children | Great with kids Training | Is a puppy, is a blank slate in terms of training Leash |  Activity Level | Normal puppy energy.  Personality |  Story | This pup and its siblings were brought to the shelter when a concerned neighbor saw another dog on the property next door running around and getting hit. The "owner," has had many litters and brought them to shelter when the babies are old enough so the concerned citizen brought them all to the shelter hoping a rescue could help.  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age.
