General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Hello, I'm Tabu! Did you know that black puppies/dogs are just as loyal, playful, and as loving as other canines - maybe even more so!? It's true. I, like several of my siblings, am FUN! Yes, I look like I'm always ready to attend a formal event, but don't let that fool you - I am always ready for fun (bonus if that fun includes getting wet or getting dirty!) And, because I am black, my coat will barely show any dirt at all so it's really a win win all around! Sniffing around for new smells, looking for new treasures to find, taking in all of the new sights to see - I'm up for it all. I am a sweet, happy little guy - come meet me, you'll see! Story | I was rescued by MHLRM with my 10 siblings and gorgeous mama, Tadaaki, from a high-kill shelter in TX. I won't let this define me if you won't - let's give me (and you!) a new, happier lease on life and a story we can write together! Other Dogs | Love them! I do have 10 siblings after all so know how to navigate my way through a dog pile! Cats | I don't think I've met any yet, but I am a curious blank slate and bet I'd be fast friends with any felines you may have! Children | I love children! They're just as fun, spontaneous, curious and filled with wonder as I am! If they're still of the napping age, even better, because SAME. I love myself a good nap after a hard play session! Training | I'm just a little guy and will still need to learn my Ps and Qs. Won't you help teach me how to be the best and most well behaved puppy I can be? One thing I have mastered already is sleeping through the night. I can sleep a whole 8-9 hours with out any accidents! I'm working on potty training too!  Leash | Because I am so stinkin' cute, I'm often carried if being moved in or out of a car or taken to a vet. I'm super smart and gentle so bet I'd be great on a leash with some practice, though! Activity Level | I'm a puppy, so, I am always on the go! I've very active, but, I definitely know when to calm things down and take a break and get some ZZZs in with my crew. Have to recharge if you're going to keep exploring the world, right!? Even though I am a puppy, I am showing those around me that I am gentle with my play and touch. I'm not super into cuddling all the time, but I will seek them out when the time feels right! Health Notes | I am a healthy little guy, and am up to date with all vaccinations I'm able to have at my age! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality |  Story | Millie is the wonderful momma to the litter of 8 tan/yellow puppies. She was found under an abandoned trailer in Texas with all her puppies and was thankfully brought into a foster home.  Other Dogs |  Cats |  Children | She is not currently being fostered with any children, but she has happily allowed neighborhood children to come over and see and handle her puppies.  Training |  Leash | Millie does great on a leash, even when encountering other dogs. She gets excited but not overly excited. She will let out some whines, to show you her excitement, but she will not pull you down.  Activity Level |  Health Notes | Millie is  heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting this sweet girl! Personality | Dominoe is dog friendly, potty trained, and has a mellow temperament. He sleeps almost all day and is low energy. I leave him out in my apartment when I'm gone, and he does very well (not destructive). He loves going outside and socializes well with other dogs. He is very sweet, loves attention, and even gets jealous when he sees other people getting attention without him (very silly!).  Story | Poor Dominoe was adopted from a Texas shelter in the summer of 2023 and then picked up as a stray in November of 2024. How could anyone let a good boy like this go!  Dominoe was found dodging cars in a neighborhood, nice neighbors took them in for the night and it turns out he was microchipped, but their owner did not reclaim him when contacted.    Other Dogs |  He is super duper friendly and great with other dogs.  Cats |  Children |  Training | Dominoe is housetrained and knows the basic commands.  He is well-mannered, obedient, and just wants to be around his people (especially if that involves "relaxing on a couch" time!).  He is very much a couch potatoe! Leash | He does okay on the leash but will pull when he sees squirrels, lawn crew, etc.  With the appropriate positive reinforcement, he will learn to be a gem on the leash. Activity Level | Pretty chill. Health Notes | Dominoe is  heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. General Notes |  Personality | Marlow is calm and gentle. He takes a little time to warm up but a few treats later, he will be your best friend forever. We suspect someone was not kind to Marlow in the past but we know continued love and patience will reassure him. Story | Marlow was a stray in Northern Colorado Springs for almost ten days before he was brought to the shelter Other Dogs | Marlow passed his shelter temperment test with flying colors. He is very interested in dogs passing but not reactive.  Cats | Unsure.  Children | No exposure to kiddos yet, but with how gentle he is, we have no doubt he would make a wonderful family pet Training | Marlow seems to know some basics! He'd love a family to help him keep learning! Leash | Lots of new smells keeps Marlow cruising on leash.  Activity Level | Low to medium. Marlow is a low key guy -- he would love some adventuring quickly followed by a nap Health Notes | Marlow is neutered and UTD on his vaccines. When foster mom comes home, he greets her with one of his many toys, he is such a good boy  Story |  Other Dogs | Swiper enjoys playing with other dogs & would be great as a 2nd dog Cats |  Children | At a recent event, Swiper was taking his toy ball and dropping it at the feet of older kids hoping they would throw it for him! He does very well with kids 12+ and is very gentle when taking treats from younger kids when supervised.  He can get excited and jumps a bit so tiny kiddos need supervision when playing with him.  Training | Swiper knows how to sit on command and is very eager to learn more.  He is very well behaved and responds nicely to attention.   Leash | LOVES going on his walks. He uses a harness, which helps him not pull Activity Level | Fun!  This sweet boy is ready to play with toys, dogs, people, he is just a really good boy!   From his foster: Swiper is such a handsome dog and full of play.  He's a lab through and through.  He loves balls, squeaker toys, playing tug of war and butt scratches.  He's food motivated and is learning really fast.  He's also eager to please which makes training so much easier.  I get the feeling he already knows a lot. He does really well on walks and doesn't pull and lunge very much. He will walk to end of the leash but with correction a few times, he gets better. He's done really well in his crate.  He hasn't barked at all at night or even to wake me up in the morning. He barks when he's outside and a neighbor dog starts barking. But he's not reactive, just answering a 'call out' from another dog:). He didn't do anything when the Amazon delivery guy rang the doorbell and he just watches when people walk by on the sidewalk in front of the house. Did I mention he's so handsome.  His face should be in pictures.  Health Notes | Swiper is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Swiper. Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. General Notes | Hi there, I'm Lucy! If you are currently trying to figure out who to invite to your upcoming holiday gatherings, may I offer, that I am an excellent +1!? Social situations and settings are my absolutely favorite! I play nicely with dogs of all sizes, have enough energy to keep the party going, and, when I wiggle my (adorable) dog bum and tail, it's infectious. Bonus - I'm always dressed to impress in my shiny black coat, so the only question I have for you is what are you waiting for!? Personality | Everyone I meet keeps saying I'm 'such a lab'. And, to them I reply by splashing in some water and rushing to get my lead to go out and explore, because YES! I am spunky, fun-loving, and up for whatever you are. I love all new people I meet, and LOVE dogs. I have so much love to give that sometimes it feels like it's going to just burst out of me - so the zoomies often occur as a result of wanting to get it all out! Story | Can we re-write my story together - starting with the gift of a home!? I was brought into a high-kill shelter in Texas as a stray and placed on the deadline list due to limited space. Now that I'm in Colorado, I'm so eager to explore everything and everywhere I can with my person/people by my side! Other Dogs | I have done amazingly well when playing with dogs of all sizes, I must say. I read cues well, know how to respect others, and know when it's time to go lay down for a bit. If you're thinking to yourself this sounds advanced for my young age, you would be correct. I'm a bit of a 'play prodigy' if you will. I will do best with another dog in the home so I can have a built in best friend for life Cats | Unsure. No one has seen me interact with cats or smaller animals, unfortunately. Children | Friendly!  Training | Lightning round of facts for you all to help make this section a bit easier to read. Am I a quick learner? YES. Am I (extremely) treat motivated! YES. Do I go into my crate as needed like a good girl? YES. Did I get professionally trained by an amazing trainer at their facility south of Denver for a couple of weeks (and will the trainer offer free access for my lifetime for any questions, needs, etc.)? YES! I have graduated, so the good news is, you can just pick me up from the facility, swing us by Starbucks for a pup cup, I'll be ready to go and will obvi be the best behaved one wherever we go! Leash | Since finishing my training, I am a complete gem on a leash Activity Level | Medium-high. I am young (thank you for noticing) and require regular exercise, socialization, and training. Running and playing are some of my favorite hobbies, tug of war too, can't forget about that! I have a nose for water and loves to splash in puddles, because, who doesn't? I haven't yet tried this thing I keep hearing people talk about in Colorado, called hiking, but let me tell you I AM IN. Everything about it sounds amazing. Mountains or trails? Love. Exploring? Double love. Doing it with my very own family? All the love <3 Health Notes | I am one healthy girl! I am spayed, up to date on all vaccines and am heartworm NEGATIVE. I should note that I am at my peak health and performance level when cheese is regularly present in my diet. Was this confirmed by a vet or professional? No. But, doesn't everyone feel a little better with some cheese here and there!? Personality | Eeyore is a gentle giant with a big personality and a heart of gold. Story | Eeyore was recently adopted but while he was at the vet getting neutered, an unforeseen out of state emergency happened in his new adopter's life! Eeyore went from the vet straight into a medical foster home to heal from the surgery and wait for his owner. After many conversations and considering all options, the adopter seemed it would be best to place this sweet guy up for adoption   Other Dogs | Eeyore gets along with dogs, as well as horses! Cats | This guy does great with cats.   Children |  Training |  Eeyore appears to be house trained as well as kennel trained! He walks well on the leash and seems to enjoy baths!  Eeyore's favorite thing to do besides watching the Bachelorette, is walking the pastures with his person and help "catch" the horses and he's gentle with them! He also loves dog friends as well as cat and longhorn friends!    Leash |  Activity Level |  Health Notes |  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Lee has so much love to give and wants nothing more than to find a forever home with a human (or humans) to call his own. Give him an ear rub, and he will give you his heart. Ready to fall in love with Lee?   Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | A curious one, Lee likes to be involved in everything you are doing— cooking, yardwork, even bathroom breaks if you'll let him. He is eager to please and so thankful to be out of the shelter. This happy-go-lucky guy loves everything and everyone (except maybe squirrels). The first time Lee went for a walk to the park, he was literally jumping for joy like a leapfrog. He will chase squirrels and zoom around outside, but inside, he loves to curl up next to you and give you kisses. So long as he is near you, he is happy.       Story |  Before coming to Colorado, Lee was in a high-kill shelter in Texas. He is very skinny and has not had the easiest life so far. He is looking to find a home to give him lots of love (and treats) to make his days on the streets a thing of the past. Other Dogs | Lee has been great so far with other dogs. After getting comfortable with one another, he loves to roughhouse with his young foster sister. He has also played with other male and female dogs from ages 1 to 8. He understand social cues well and gives out friendly signals the whole time he is playing. Cats | Unsure. Lee has not been around cats. While he is super loving, he does exhibit prey drive with squirrels and birds, so he may chase cats. Children | Unsure. Lee has not been around children. He is very friendly and loves to give kisses, so he may be a bit excited at first to see a human at his level. Training | Lee is working on nailing down the basics. He knows "sit" and has already learned "down" since being in his foster home. He is currently working on "stay" and "come." The best way to get him motivated is with cheese or sometimes just a good ear rub.  Leash | While he is generally okay, he is very alert and can get excited when he see squirrels. He would benefit from someone who would be willing to work on his leash manners with him. Activity Level | Moderate. Lee loves to play with other dogs and go for walks, but he also knows when it is time to settle down. He is a great coworker who won't make a peep while you are in your Zoom meetings but will stay close by for a good ear rub. Health Notes | Unlike most people, Lee's New Year's resolution is actually to gain weight. Can you help him meet his goal? Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. He’s playful but mostly is just looking for pets and cuddles. He likes to climb into laps for cuddles in the evening. He’s pretty quiet. He's 17lbs but not a yappy boy. He plays well with the 85 pound dog where he is being fostered. He’s a little over a year old, so he sleeps through the night.
