She is as sweet as a cookie! Cookie is taking time to settle in with her new fosters and learn that she can trust them. Even though she is nervous she still wags her tail even when they just walk by. She has low energy right now as she continues to decompress but I believe she will be a low energy dog regardless.  Personality | Cookie is a sweet lovable lab that is learning to trust and love her foster family. She is slowly coming out of her shell but has never showed any aggression. She's just getting used to living inside a home with freedom to explore.  Story | Cookie came to Colorado from a breeder in Missouri that was shutting down. She was saved along with 30 other dogs that have been used for breeding their entire lives and have never experienced a loving home or owners.  Other Dogs |Cookie has always been around other dogs. She was initially a little nervous around her current foster but now she is comfortable  Cats |Unsure Children | Loves the kiddos, being fostered with two currently and her tail starts wagging as soon as they come near! Training | Cookie is very well-mannered and potty trained.  Leash | Activity Level | Cookie is pretty mellow but I'm sure with more time to adjust to her new life she will love going for daily walks and would love to go swimming.  Health Notes | Cookie is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Cookie!  General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Seniors are at the top of their class! Say hi to sweet Millie - 8 years old and 63 pounds of senior Lab love. DO NOT let her age fool you...she has plenty of pep and play in her. She is truly a love! Personality | Millie is 100% love bug (with a side of goofballl!). She has not let her past life get her down and greets each day as a new adventure and each person she meeets as a new best friend. She loves to fetch, swim, and go on walks. When excited, Millie does zoomies around the yard. Millie would appreciate somone to cuddle in bed or on the couch with - she is a big lapdog when it's time to chill.   Story | Before MHLM, Millie was breeder lab, but fortunately Millie left that life behind.  Other Dogs | Friendly! Millie enjoys being around other dogs. She can be a little overwhelming with her greetings so a gradual introuction with new dogs might be the best. Cats | Unsure.  Children Millie enjoyed the teenagers in her foster home in Texas.  Training | She knows a few commands and is eager to please. Millie will benefit from training since her past life didn't involve much. She is housetrained and has been given full run of the house. Leash | Pretty good! Millie is athletic, pulls when excited especially at the outset, she does best with a harness. She wants to sniff EVERYTHING and meets everyone she passes. Activity Level Millie acts younger than her age! She is eager to go on walks and LOVES fetch. She is quite energetic and enthusiastic about any new adventure. She does great in the car too. Health Notes | Millie is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Health Notes | Healthy. Other Dogs Great! He is in a foster home with 3 dogs. Jetty loves to play with his foster sister and brother, but is also respectful of his older, non-playful foster brother. He has been friendly and so excited when he meets dogs while walking on the leash! Children | He has done great meeting the neighborhood children, even with their bikes, blowing bubbles, throwing things and making a lot of noise. Training | Jetty is a young pup, so a blank slate with training. But, he conquered "sit" in about 15 minutes and he listens remarkably well. Smart boy. Jetty sleeps all night long, in our bedroom, no accidents. We started him out in a crate, but realized he does not need it at night. He sleeps on a dog bed most of the night, but will crawl in bed with us towards morning. He is doing fine in his daytime crate, he will fuss for a few minutes then settle down and sleep. He seems to be potty trained! Yay!  I have been taking him out on a regular schedule and he always goes promptly outside. Leash | Work in progress, but so far, he walks really well.  Activity Level | High!! Jetty has a long, lean build and loves to run! Personality | Jetty is a happy, very friendly, energetic pup! He loves to cuddle with his people. And dogs, if they will let him. Jetty just wants to please and is so loving. He is also gorgeous, with a shiny, jet black coat. A showstopper! Story | Jetty was dumped on the beach in Galveston, TX. He was found and taken to the shelter, and then Mile High came to the rescue! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Puppies to 1 year - $425, 1-6 years - $375, 7-10 years - $325, and 11+ years - $175. Purebreds are $475 regardless of age. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $600 per dog). General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Such a sweet dog! Maddie is very gentle and loving. She takes great care of her puppies. She also loves to greet new humans and cuddle up on the couch with her foster humans. She loves pets and attention. She also loves a chew toy or stuffy and to snack on a bully stick. She's very food/treat motivated and should be easily trainable.  Story | Maddie and her eight puppies were surrendered to a high kill shelter and requested to be euthanized by their "owner." MHLM saved them! Other Dogs | Friendly! No issues around other dogs even when her puppies are near by. She has been peacefully coexisting with her two giant breed foster brothers. Like also like to wrestle and play together, and Maddie does great joining in at playtime.  Cats |  Children |  Training | She's learning sit. She's very food motivated and should be easy to train. She's happy to chill out in her crate, and has no issues with crate training so far. She is picking up on potty training quickly but still having accidents in the house once or twice a day. She hasn't had any potty accidents in the crate. She's well on her way to being fully potty trained.  Leash | She loves a walk and does great on leash. Again, she's very trainable and should pick up on "heel" quickly.  Activity Level | She likes to play a few times a day, but mostly she's a loving velcro dog. She follows her foster mama around the house all day, quietly napping or playing with her chew toys, or happily chewing a bully stick. She will be such a great companion to her adopters.  Health Notes | Maddie is up to date on her vaccines and heartworm NEGATIVE! She will need to be spayed after her puppies are fully weaned. Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | I have so much love that I want to share with you!! My name is Arlo, the little humans in my home named me after watching the movie The Good Dinosaur, because I'm so kind, and though a bit shy right now, I still give nothing but love! Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Sweet Arlo is the best! He was so happy to get off of transport and onto his new forever life. He loves people of any size and age. His tail is awlays wagging, and he likes to be near his humans but will still go roam around the backyard on his own. He is a bit shy, but if you crouch down he comes up to you for pets.  Story | Arlo doesn't have much of a story that we know, but if dogs could talk.... He was pulled from a shelter in Arkansas and now will live a wonderful life in Colorado! Other Dogs | Arlo is good with other dogs. He's still new to his foster home and the resident dog, and hasn't taken much interest in the resident dog, but he is friendly when meeting and has showed zero signs of aggression. He is more happy right now to just sniff around and get pets. With time Arlo will learn that it's fun to play with other dogs.  Cats | would probably be just fine as he has shown no prey drive Children | Arlo is being fostered with a 5yr old and a 7yr old. He loves kids! He lets the 5yr old snuggle right up in his face and give him kisses. He is so gentle and doesn't jump on them. He has not showed any interest in their toys or socks that they leave lying around the house.  Training | Arlo loves to fetch! He loves retrieving a tennis ball and he knows to sit before you will throw it again for him! He has not had any accidents inside the house and has not tried to mark on anything inside. He takes treats so very gently and does not mind if you are by him when he is eating or if you touch his food or his bowl. He is completely crate trained, sleeps all night in his crate without a peep!  Leash | Arlo will need some work with the leash, and a front clip harness or a gentle leader is best for now. He does like to sniff all the sniffs!  Activity Level | Arlo is pretty mellow so far. If you are on the couch, he is on the couch - if you invite him. Outside, he will happily sniff around unless you want to throw the tennis ball for him.  Health Notes |Arlo is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative!  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality |  Oakley has exuded the sweetest demeanor since meeting him.  He's a geniunely great dog.  He warms up to people very quickly and has an overall friendly disposition. He has not barked once.  He has become his foster's shadow and seems to be really enjoying the love and attention.  He has been very easy to foster so far.  I think he would fit into any type of home.  He went on his first brewery trip and did really well around strangers and new environment.  How could you not adopt this cute face!    Story |  Other Dogs | Curious about other dogs but has not shown any aggression whatsoever. Cats | No exposure to cats  Children | No exposure to children yet Training | Oakley seems to have a foundation for basic commands but takes a bit of encourgement to complete them.  He will need some obedience training though displays no problematic behaviors so far.  He has responded well to reinforcement of basic commands and hope to expand that as he gets more settled in.  He appears to be a fast learner.  He doesn't seem to love the crate, but did well the first day he spent time in it.   Oakley hasn't had any accidents inside and is completely house-trained. Leash |  Oakley does pretty well on the leash.  He pulls a little bit, but that should be able to be addressed with some additional training. Activity Level |  Medium activity level.  He does not seem to be effected by the heartworm and has done well on longer walks.  He has been very calm inside the house. Health Notes | Oakley is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. This sweet girl is showing her personality more and more every day and coming out of her shy shell! Just needs a family to call her own   She gets the zoomies regularly and it's hilarious! She gets along really well with our dog and two cats and will even let the cats chase her. She is very afraid of being on a leash so we are slowly working up to getting her comfortable with that so we can take her on walks. It also takes her a while to get comfortable enough to come inside after playing outside. We end up just leaving the door open and walking away and eventually, she will run right in.  She is even doing well with potty training.   It is amazing to see how far she has come already!  She will be an amazing addition to the family.   Story | Multigenerational doodles surrendered to MHLM by a breeder. These pups will likely be between 35-50 lbs. Other Dogs | Brier loves spending time with other dogs, and it helps to build her confidence.  Cats | She is a fan of the kitties!  Children | Kiddos love Brier and Brier loves them right back! Like all puppies, Brier needs a committed loving family to call her own.  Training | Shy but eager to learn. A family that takes the time with consistent gentle training will be rewarded with a well adjusted and happy 4-legged family member in Brier ❤️ Leash | Working on getting more comfortable. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Penny is a very sweet and loving lady. Despite having been neglected, she is very friendly and trusting of all people. She is your typical lab who will follow you around the house and ask for pets and head scratches. Penny is learning to play with toys and settle herself on the dog bed.  She has some extra weight to lose, but she absolutely loves going on walks and is slimming down with good food, exercise and love. Penny sleeps quietly in her crate overnight.  She has not had any accidents in the house.  Penny loves water and snow! Story | Penny is one of the retired breeder dogs who was rescued from euthanasia recently. She likely lived in a crate her whole life, had multiple litters of puppies, and was severely neglected. She's now learning about living in a warm home with cozy dog beds, toys, walks, nutritious food, and endless belly rubs and love.  Other Dogs | She does very well with other dogs and is fairly submissive to them. Cats | unknown Children | unknown Training | She is crate trained and has not had any accidents in the house. Leash | Penny does well on a leash.  Activity Level | Penny loves going on walks.  She has lost seven pounds in just over a week and her energy levels are increasing.  With her love of water and snow she is going to be a mighty fine hiking companion or running companion or long walk friend! Health Notes | Penny is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Penny! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Tony is beautiful fuzzy white boy that is looking to find his perfect family!  Personality | Sweet, loving and cuddly! Tony can be shy at first but once he has some time to adjust to a new situation he will cozy up for pets. Tony definitely warms up to women quicker than men, but does not show any agression towards men, just needs a little more time before he'll approach for some pets.  Story | Tony was picked up by animal control after roaming the streets of Houston, TX. MHLRM tagged him from a high-kill shelter to give him a second chance at life. Other Dogs | Great! Tony enjoys playing and snuggling with other dogs and really feels more secure with other dogs around. Tony would love to be in a home with another dog that will give him the guidance and reassurance he needs. He is currently being fostered with another dog and feels more confident and less scared with the resident dog around.  Cats | Unsure. Children | Tony is a little skiddish of small children. Their sudden loud movments can easily scare him. It would be best for Tony to be around older children. Tony is currently living with a 7 and 10 year old and has had no issues at all; no growling or nipping or biting. He will even curl up on their beds with them in the evening.  Training | Tony is 100% potty trained and crate trained! Doesn't get much easier than that! His foster mom actually says that if she were looking for another dog, he'd be a "dream dog!"  Leash | Tony does really well with a front lead harness and is easy to redirect. Activity Level | Medium. Health Notes | No health concerns. Tony is heartworm NEGATIVE, and all up to date on his vaccines!  General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Ana (or as she has been affectionately called "Ana B.") has a very sweet personality (mixed in with a little sass). She first came to her foster home very timid and unsure. She has really began to open up and has come so far in short time. She enjoys being involved in all the going-ons around the house and appreciates everything at her own pace. She is beginning to seek out affection more and more and tail wags are far more frequent (especially when meal time rolls around). With continued love and kindness, there is no doubt Ana will make for a wonderful companion and family member Story |  Ana was a part of a large number of breeder dogs surrendered to rescue Other Dogs | Ana has done well with the foster's older and younger more exuberant pup. She is beginning to initiate play with the younger dog and gets the cutest happy taps. She loves roaming the yard with the pack and sitting in the sun. She seems to show more confidence in the presence of other pups. She is very tolerant and seems to co-exist well. She is interested in other dogs passing on leash but is redirectable and moves along quickly. Ana would love a dog friend in her new home, but would also thrive as the queen bee Cats | Unsure -- could potentially do well with an introduction or a dog-saavy cat Children | Unsure -- she is very gentle and calm so I could see her being a wonderful family dog Training | Blank slate! Ana does not appear to have a lot of experience inside a home so she is still learning the ins and outs. She is very responsive to gentle correction. She absolutely loves stuffies and carries them around proudly (with the occasional removal of limbs :) )She has not had one accident inside the house. She is not particularly food motivated but has a few choice treats that she enjoys. She accepts treats so gently! She does not love her crate  --  but that's ok because she has succesfully been free roam for the past few days! She loves her soft bed and hanging with her dog friends until her foster mom returns Leash | Doing well! She pulls when excited about checking something out (or to catch up with the group) and has no hesitation to put on the brakes for a good smell. She seems to enjoy being with the pack on a walk. She is a little nervous when getting the leash on, but once it's on, she is ready to go! She is learning to stick to a side -- right now she is content hanging to the back.. She is getting more comfortable with the sights and sounds of the neighborhood Activity Level |  Medium. She happily trots around the yard but has so far been very calm in the house. She gets a morning walk and a short afternoon outing -- that seems just fine! Health Notes |  Ana is in good health! She recently had a wellness visit and was found to be heartworm negative! She is currently being treated for an ear infection but once that clears up, she will be in good shape! She is a wonderful patient and has allowed her ears to be cleaned and ear drops instilled. She will be spayed this week Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Looking for an opportunity to own a professionally trained Lab mix? Lola is the dog for you! Lola graduates from the Colorado Correctional Industries Board-In Training Program on March 14th! She has excelled in the program. Her handlers are confused why she is even there -- she's that well behaved! Lola will come fully trained on the basics - sit, stay, come, place, you name it. And she knows how to walk on leash and not pull. Ideally, an adopter will go to her “go home class” on the 14th to learn all about her skills. There are many continued benefits to adopting a graduate of the the training program, including refresher courses every Thursday. Graduates can also be boarded overnight with reservations. We've had several dogs graduate from this program and their adopters rave about the skills learned and benefits provided. Personality | Loveable and cuddly. Lola loves to be around her people, she is very affectionate and loves attention! She is an intelligent dog that likes mental and physcial activities.  Story | Lola was rescued from the euthanasia list in a high kill Texas shelter. She gave birth to 9 puppies while in the shelter. They all traveled to Colorado where they were in a loving and active household.  Other Dogs | Lola is dog friendly. She enjoys playing with other dogs and the handlers at her training program have experienced zero issues with Lola when interacting with other dogs.  Cats | Unknown Children | She is wonderful with children. Very sweet and gentle. She'll happily give kisses to all! Training | Lola is currently enrolled in a Board-In Train Program with Colorado Correctional Industries. She will graduate March 14th. She is a smart girl and is very food motivated. We are confident once she completes the program she will be a wonderful addition to an active home.  In this training program, at the end of 4 weeks, she will be ready to go to her forever home knowing the basics - sit, stay, place and good leash manners. Her new family will be able to attend her "Go Home Class" to learn everything she learned in her 4 week training program. Other benefits of this trainintg program for Lola's adopter are:  1) You can attend free refresher classes every 1- 2 weeks with Lola since she is a graduate, AND 2) She can be boarded with a reservation whenever you head out of town.  Ask your adoption coordinator for more details. Leash | As part of her training program, Lola has mastered walking nicely on leash. She does not tug or leave your side when distracted. Want a dog that will impress? Lola is the girl! Activity Level | Lola is medium-high energy. She loves to walk, run and play! She'd do best with an active adopter that will take her for walks, hikes and continue enriching her mental health through training exercises.  Health Note | Lola is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm NEGATIVE! Thank you! | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.  show less
