General Notes | Barkley is a bit like superman - he's survived the worst of the worst, and is our version of a super hero! This sweet boy came in with a bullet in his shoulder that also grazed his eye. While we are furious that someone could ever allow this to happen, MHLM is trying to provide Barkley with the best second chance at life. This amazing dog deserves everything good in the world! He's still the sweetest and most trusting boy despite everything he went through! Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Sweet, adoring, trusting, and happy to be near you. Barkley loves tennis balls and fetch like the good lab that he is! Barkley is always wagging his tail and smiling despite what he went through! He treats everyone he meets like his best friend. Will you be his new best friend? Story | Barkley was brought to a high kill shelter in Texas with an intact bullet wound, still bleeding. The bullet was lodged in his shoulder, and had grazed his eye, causing a secondary wound. He was on a euthanasia list for that afternoon, and thats when MHLM stepped in! This boy got tagged at the shelter and was moved to a foster home. Because of his past experiences, we know that more than anything, Barkley deserves a chance at the good life, and we can't wait to help him find his people to live it with!  Other Dogs | Barkley is great with other dogs! Cats | Barkley has not been cat tested.  Children | Barkley has such a sweet personality and has proven to be gentle with kids in his foster home! Training | Barkley is potty trained and is already a really well-behaved pup! Leash | Good on a leash. His new foster parents have been taking him on adventures all over Colorado! Activity Level | Moderate.  Health Notes  Barkley is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Barkley. Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality - Hello, I'm Nora! You may have already viewed or met some of my siblings on here already. And I, like all of them, am FUN! I am very curious and will follow you around to figure out what's going on. I am happy, energetic, up for all the new smells, sounds, places to explore, and more! Always chic and in fashion with my black coat, I will be dressed for any occasion you want to take me to once I'm old enough and have all my vaccines to accompany you! Story | I was rescued by MHLRM with my 10 siblings and gorgeous mama, Tadaaki, from a high-kill shelter in TX. I'm a bit smaller than some of my sibs - but don't worry, it just let's me cover more groud at a faster pace when I'm on the move! I won't let my past define me if you won't - let's give me (and you!) a new, happier lease on life and a story we can write together! Other Dogs | Love them! I do have 10 siblings after all so know how to navigate my way through a dog pile! Cats | I don't think I've met any yet, but I am a curious blank slate and bet I'd be fast friends with any felines you may have! Children | I love children! They're just as fun, spontaneous, curious and filled with wonder as I am! If they're still of the napping age, even better, because SAME. I love myself a good nap after a hard play session! Training | I'm just a little girl and will still need to learn my Ps and Qs, but I am a fast learner. My foster mom and dad are surprised I learned "sit" in one day. Won't you help continue to teach me how to be the best and most well behaved puppy I can be? One thing I have mastered already is sleeping through the night. I can sleep a whole 8-9 hours with out any accidents! I'm working on potty training too and I'm doing great! Leash | Because I am so stinkin' cute, I'm often carried if being moved in or out of a car or taken to a vet. I'm super smart and gentle so bet I'd be great on a leash with some practice, though! Activity Level | I'm a puppy, so, I am always on the go! I've very active, but, I definitely know when to calm things down and take a break and get some ZZZs in with my crew. Have to recharge if you're going to keep exploring the world, right!? Even though I am a puppy, I am showing those around me that I am gentle with my play and touch. I like cuddling, my foster mom says I'm very sweet. I will give you kisses to show you affection until I fall asleep. I am vocal too, but, that's not a bad thing if it means I can tell you when I need something, right!? Health Notes | I am a healthy little gal, and am up to date with all vaccinations I'm able to have at my age! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Recently saved from a hoarding situation with 71 (!!!) other dogs, trapped and starving in crates in a school bus, Macie deserves all the love, decompression time, and the most wonderful family. Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Macie's fosters are just getting to know her, but so far, share that she is wonderful, curious, and loving as she adapts to the big world around her. She's excitable, but is learning!  Story | A bystander outside of Galveston, Texas, noticed loud noises coming from a school bus and camper in a state park. When support arrived, what they uncovered was a horrific animal hoarding situation, including 71 dogs in crates stacked to the celing and on top of one another. Other Dogs | Macie does well with other dogs! She is young and learning cues, but plays with excitement and joy.  Cats | Macie has not been cat tested and it is unknown how she would do with kitties.  Children | Macie has thee younger kiddos in her current foster home and LOVES them. She snuggles in their beds at night, and plays with them during the day!  Training | In progress! She is learning full potty training, and about not jumping and keeping her paws on the ground!  Leash | Decent - basic silly lab energy on the leash! General Notes | Shadow is a sweet, shy, and wonderful pup who is looking for his forever family. He is learning that people are safe, that homes are loving, and that there is so much life to be lived in getting pets and snuggles! While timid, this sweet boy is learning and growing every day, and can't wait to find his forever family!  Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Shadow is a bit timid and is still learning that people are safe and trustworthy, but MAN OH MAN does he warm up and become the wiggliest and sweetest boy once he feels safe. He seems to get more comfortable every day and is now accepting pets and love! His foster family says he is so sweet. Shadow loves other dogs and is so excited to play and be in their company, and thrives when around other pups.  Story | Shadow was pulled from a high kill shelter in TX, and is currently in a foster home. He came out of the shelter scared and shut down, and while he is still adjusting, he has made huge strides! He loves toys, play fetch, and playing outside now that he's out of the kennels! He plays with his foster siblings well, is taking snacks from the kids in the house, and seems so happy to be settling into a house! He is a young, athletic guy who loves to play, to run, and spend time following their leads.    Cats | Shadow is living in a foster home with a three cats and is doing well with them! He would do well with a kitty sibling, and seems to adore their company.   Children | Shadow is still pretty timid, and his fosters are unsure about how he would do with children. He has almost mastered the house training thing and lets you know when he needs to go out!   Leash | Shadow has not started leash walking yet due to how timid he is, but his adopters think he will do well as he adjusts.    Activity Level | Moderate - Shadow is a typical happy lab! He loves to play and can entertain himself, but he will happily curl up under your desk as you work or snuggle up on the couch for movie night.    Health Notes | Shadow is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. General Notes | Olaf (or Ollie as his foster parents like to call him!) is a happy, wiggly, family member who loves to play, chew on his toys and snuggle and is ready for his lifetime adventure in Colorado! He spent 5 weeks with kids, dogs and cats in Texas and did great with all the chaos. He has basically mastered Potty training (rare accidents!), is taking basic commands (sit, come & crate) and is a smart pup. He loves to play with his doggy foster brother and chew on toys on the humans' laps! Olaf has been adjusting well to his new routine, responds well to his training, and is learning how to be happy in his crate. He would do well with someone who loves to play and is patient given his young age!  Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.  Health Notes | healthy! Olaf received his final puppy vaccine on 3/1 and is now ready to go on all the outdoor adventures!   Other Dogs | Olaf LOVES other dogs! He loves to play with his 8 year old foster lab brother! He definitely would love a home with another dog or someone who will set up lots of doggy play dates or take him to daycare to get lots of play time in!  Cats | He is being fostered with a cat in Colorado and does well! The kitty was recently mean to him when he tried to play so now he's scared of the kitty and keeps away.  Children | Olaf loves humas of all ages & sizes and lived with 3 for 5 weeks in Texas! He would be awesome with kiddos of all ages. Training | Olaf is a lucky little puppy who has been given the opportunity to go to a puppy training class 2x a week! He's learning all sorts of new tricks and how to be the best puppy! He has been doing amazing with his crate training and goes in without a peep now! He gets his meals and takes naps in his crate throughout the day. He's learning to only chew on toys, but like most puppies, things like shoes look a lot like toys and are tempting sometimes! He's a great sleeper and sleeps through the night (10pm-7am) in a crate outside the bedroom. His foster mom has been the one to wake him up in the morning to start the day, so he'd probably sleep in even longer. He's getting great at the "come" command since he doesn't like to be too far away from his humans when off-leash anyways! He also has done great on car rides and is a happy passenger! He's a smart little guy who is very food motivated, picks up training quickly and has a lot of love to give! He's looking for a family who understand that puppies need continued patience and training as they continue learning how to be the best puppy they can be!  Leash | Olaf is already great on a leash and progresses every walk! He'll need continued training on the leash as he gets older. Ollie is a curious puppy who loves to people watch. Taking him to a park where he can just sit with you and watch the world go by is one of his favorite activities!  Activity Level | Medium/High - Has typical puppy/lab energy but still needs his rests! Play hard, nap hard is his motto! He loves to chase bigger dogs outside to release his energy! He also will chase balls inside and even brings them back sometimes if his foster doesn't feel like taking him outside to play when he starts to get the zoomies! He's following a puppy schedule where he's awake for 1-2 hours and naps for 2 hours in his crate if he can't settle outside if it. He would love to go to a home with another playful dog or with an adopter who is committed to keeping him physically and mentally exercised! He's being fostered in an apartment and does great as long as he gets his exercise and naps In! His fosters give him lots of puzzle toys, training and play time to wear him out!  Personality | Olaf is a total goofball who loves to play and follow you around. He's a classic puppy who is curious about everything; chasing his toys, playing tug, watching TV, cuddling on the couch, and learning from you. He's a social little guy who wiggles and hops around in excitement when he gets to meet someone new! Story | Olaf came from Texas where he was fostered by a loving family for 5 weeks. He arrived recently in Colorado where he lives with his 2 foster parents. He is loving the snow and sunshine in Colorado.  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Puppies to 1 year - $425, 1-6 years - $375, 7-10 years - $325, and 11+ years - $175. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Hello, I'm Taco! Did you know that black puppies/dogs are just as loyal, playful, and as loving as other canines - maybe even more so!? It's true. I, like several of my siblings, am FUN! Yes, I look like I'm always ready to attend a formal event, but don't let that fool you - I am always ready for fun (bonus if that fun includes getting wet or getting dirty!) And, because I am black, my coat will barely show any dirt at all so it's really a win win all around! Sniffing around for new smells, looking for new treasures to find, taking in all of the new sights to see - I'm up for it all. I am a sweet, happy, cuddly little guy - come meet me, you'll see! I will give you tons of kisses bad cuddles because they're my favorite!! Story | I was rescued by MHLRM with my 10 siblings and gorgeous mama, Tadaaki, from a high-kill shelter in TX. I won't let this define me if you won't - let's give me (and you!) a new, happier lease on life and a story we can write together! Other Dogs | Love them! I do have 10 siblings after all so know how to navigate my way through a dog pile! Cats | I love my kitty foster sibling! Children | I love children! They're just as fun, spontaneous, curious and filled with wonder as I am! If they're still of the napping age, even better, because SAME. I love myself a good nap after a hard play session! Training | I'm just a little guy and will still need to learn my Ps and Qs. Won't you help teach me how to be the best and most well behaved puppy I can be? One thing I have mastered already is sleeping through the night. I can sleep a whole 8-9 hours with out any accidents! I'm working on potty training too and have started ringing the bells on the door when I have to go out! My foster mom says I'm nearly potty trained! I love to cuddle on my foster parents lap and be nearby as much as possible! I also love toys and can keep myself occupied with a squeaky toy since my 8 year old foster dog brother never wants to play with me! I haven't been destructive so far and am good about chewing toys as long as there's a lot of them! I think I'm pretty chill and nap a lot for a puppy so I might fall into the "medium" energy category!  Health Notes | I am a healthy little guy, and am up to date with all vaccinations I'm able to have at my age! General Notes | Bouncy, balanced Elle is all the fun of a puppy, with all the snuggly energy of a pocket pal! While she has had a rought start to life, and is recovering from a bite, she is adventurous, adoring, and can't wait to find her forever family in Colorado! Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Elle is sweet, snuggly, and happy as can be to be around people and her foster siblings. She loves to explore, and is all things adorable! Interests and hobbies include finding teeny crevices to sneak into when it's nap time and she doesn't want to be disturbed by a sibling, nibbling on the tags of all pillows in the home (she doesn't discriminate - if it's attached to a pillow, it's going in her mouth!), giving sweet licks and kisses and sneaking a nibble in on your nose here and there, and snuggling with humans, puppies, her foster dogs - you name it, it if is warm and she can nuzzle against it she will! As mentioned above, this sweet lady has been recovering from a dog bite - although you would never know this happened based on her demeanor and personality! The only sign that points to her early injury is her lower (third) eyelid on the right side which is raised and is covering a portion of her eye. This is cosmetic and hasn't slowed little Elle down in the slightest. It's simply more of her to love, and is what helped keep her eye protected and safe! Story | Elle was rescued with her nine (!!) siblings and mama days after her mom gave birth on the streets in Houston, TX. A concerned citizen noticed their pregnant mama Honey, and immediately put out a plea for rescue. MHLM jumped into action, and a dedicated foster drove over four hours and searched for the family in order to save them. Since her rescue, she has been in a foster home in Houston before recently making her way to Colorado!  Other Dogs | Elle is great with other dogs! In addition to her nine siblings and mama, this girl has been in foster with other pups and does well with all of them. She is sweet as can be, and learning the ropes from bigger dogs. She would love a doggy sibling! She does very well when playing with other dogs and reads cues well for her very young age! Cats | Elle has not been cat tested, but due to her age and sweet temperament, her fosters think she would do well in adapting to a house with kitties.  Children | Elle is great with kiddos and would love to be in a house with little humans! She loves to nap, be held, and play.  Training | In progress - Elle is still very young, and is taking training day by day. She is working on both potty and crate training, and is learning sit! She is a quick and cautious learner. She will observe something a few times (like, watching how a sibling will go up the stairs or step down when going into the back yard) and once she feels comfortable and confident she will try something out. She is doing very well with sleep and potty training. She is sleeping soundly from 10pm-7am, and will wait until removed from her crate or play pen and placed outside to potty! Leash | Elle is still little, and isn't walking independently on a leash yet. She will learn as her training progresses!  Activity Level | Moderate - Elle is your typical lab pup who enjoys naps and exploring! General Notes | Curious and adventurous, Walter is looking forward to finding his forever people! This boy has the softest coat, the sweetest eyes, and a lovely and excited demeanor! Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Walter is inquisitive and an explorer, always on the move and excited to see or experience the next new thing. He is bouncy, fun, and full of bright energy! This boy loves to sniff out new spots, be with new people, and spend time outside! He has a nose and a knack for adventure.  Story | Walter was an owner surrender due to puppy tendencies - what pup doesn't like to explore?! Now he is living the good life getting all the help through training with Mile High Lab Mission.  Other Dogs | Walter LOVES other dogs and greatly enjoys play time, down time, and quality time with them.  Cats | Walter has not been cat tested, so his foster cannot speak to his reactions around them.  Children | Walter would do well with older children as long as they are gentle and kind. He will need continuous training as he grows.  Training | Walter is in a professional training program right now, learning all of the good dog tendencies! He will be adopted out when fully equipped with all the skills needed to lead a successful life, which is pretty dreamy! Not all dogs have a professional training background, and Walter's will set him up to be supported in all sorts of environments! Leash | Walter is learning about leash walking with his fosters, and will work on it more as time progresses. He likes walks currently, and will continue to do well as his training progesses.  Activity Level | High - Walter likes to be on the move! He would climb any 14er with you, be happy to train for a marathon, or spend an afternoon hiking in the mountains or swimming in a lake.  Health Notes |  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age.
