General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Our executive director saw Ginger in the background of a video of another dog we were pulling from a TX shelter. She asked for more info and learned Ginger had been at the shelter for 500+ days! Over a year and a half 😢 We know she is slightly more mixy than most Labs we intake, but her story spoke to us and we had to help. Since going to a MHRLM foster, we’ve learned Ginger is SO sweet and smart. She learned her name quickly and does really well with recall. She’s been spending most of her time catching up on sleep but also loves to run in the backyard with her foster moms other dogs. She is very well behaved — no chewing or accidents in the house. She is great on a leash and shows no aggression with food or toys. She loves to play ball in the yard, and she's a pro with the slow feeder and her kong. Her favorite place is on your lap! We’re so happy this girl is a Mile High Lab and can’t wait to see what’s next for her! Story | Ginger spent 535 days in a shelter before getting her freedom ride.  Other Dogs | Wonderful! Ginger is with a foster that has multiple dogs. She is playful and respectful with them. Cats | Unknown. Children | Ginger loves everyone including children.  Training | She's a smart girl. She quickly learned her name and basic commands like sit, down, and come. She sleeps in the crate at night and is house trained. Leash | Ginger walks nicely on leash. She gets so excited to go on an adventure.  Activity Level | Medium. Ginger is a young lab mix that likes to run, explore and play. She will do best with an adopter that can give her regular exercise and socialization. She would make a great running or hiking companion! She loves to sleep upside down on the couch after a little bit of play time or walk. Health Notes | Ginger is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Ginger!  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.  show less

General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.  Tonka is a very affectonate boy. He is never far from a two legger and loves to be cuddled. He has been great with our large resident dogs, playful but not to the point of annoying them. He is not a huge fan of the kennel, will sleep for a few hours but then wants human contact and will sleep through the night (ie if you are willing to have him on the bed he has no issue being quiet all night. He is doing well on the potty training, a few accidents but more yard than inside. He learns quickly. Not destructive, or overly mouthy as some pups can be. He is going to be an awesome buddy! Health Notes |  Other Dogs | No issues with any of our residents, young to old male and female. Cats | Unknown Children | No kids, but not a spastic puppy, loves to play and chase but not bitey. My name is Tonka (and several others) my fo-momster and dadster call me a tubby tanker. I like food. Well, I love food, and people. I like to chase the squeeky ball and my fo-bro Halo. Before this I was dumped with my sister in Le Grange. It was HOT and we did NOT like the shelter. I want to be with my people, not in a cage. I made my way to my fo-house and haven't looked back. I have lots of friends, love and food. It is great. I like to make people smile and I give great kisses. I stay by your side, and sometime under your feet. I am still a puppy, but I am an old soul puppy. Oh...Oh and I do very much like belly rubs! If you are looking for a BFF I am your guy. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Gloria is a sweet, gentle and loving dog! Shelter staff say she is a friend to everyone and play group rockstar.  from current foster:  She is so sweet. She’s already learned how to use the doggie door in one day and she walks great on a leash. She’s very curious around the house and is definitely super smart. The first night I opened up my cousin's bedroom door and she went right in there, slept on the floor, and didn’t whine for the rest of the night. She’s had no accidents in the house. She eats her food next to my dog and she shared toys, shares bones, barked a few times, but she’s really a gentle, sweet dog who just wants to be loved. She may need an adopter who will crate train her as I think she is a bit mischievous and could get into trouble if left home alone for a long time until she’s super comfortable and knows tshe won’t be relocating again. Over all a wonderful dog.  Story | Gloria was found as a stray in Houston, TX. No one came to claim her and she was placed on the euthanasia list due to limited space. Other Dogs | Friendly! She loves to play with other dogs. Check out the video.  Cats |  Children |  Training | Gloria is a blank slate but listens well and seems eager to learn. She loves treats!  Leash walks well on a leash.  Activity Level | Medium. Gloria is a young lab mix that requries exercise and socialization. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Albert is approx. 4 years old and 57lbs. Shelter staff say he is calm and gentle! He is somewhat unsure of new things and likes to take it slow, but shows zero aggression. He is a sweet boy in need of lots of love and pets!  Story | Albert was reported to animal control as a stray roaming a suburban neighborhood. He was very friendly to all the people. But it was reported he taunted the neighborhood cats 😆  Other Dogs | He temp tested well with other dogs at the shelter. He was pretty indifferent towards them, but we imagine he'll open up more once out of the scary shelter. He will probably do well with another dog in the home to show him the ropes. Cats | The neighbors that reported Albert as a stray stated he is a cat chaser. We recommend a home without feline friends for Albert. Children  He is fine with children in the home. Indifferent to small children.  Training | Blank slate! Albert seems to have been on his own for awhile. We are working on commands. Leash | He's very gentle on leash. He curiously explores his surroundings. Doesn't pull. Loves hiking and jogging. Would be a great trail dog!  Activity Level | Medium. Albert is a mature Lab that does not seem overly energetic. This may change as he adjusts to a more normal lifestyle.  Health Notes | Albert is up to date on vaccines and heartworm NEGATIVE! He is scheduld to be neutered soon.  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Jake is the definition of a happy, wiggly labrador, and a true gentle giant! He LOVES people. His tail is always wagging and he keeps a big smile on his face. His favourite thing to do is play fetch. He will chase anything and everything you throw for him, and bring it right back to your feet, ready to go again! He might be a big guy, but he is gentle and calm, and just wants to be loved. Story | Jake was dumped at a vet clinic by his owner who could no longer care for him. Other Dogs | Friendly. He has met large and small dogs. He mostly ignores them. He is more concerned about getting attention from people!  Cats | Unknown. Children | Great. He loves all people including kids. Training | Jake knows basic commands like sit and lay down. He is very eager to please, and very food motivated. He is fully house trained, and sleeps all night in his kennel with no issues. He has free roam of his fosters house when left home alone during the day, and is such a good boy, he can either be found napping on a dog bed, or outside in the backyard sunbathing! Leash | He still pulls a little when excited, but is improving every day, and overall walks very well on the leash.  Activity Level | Medium. Jake is an energetic lab that will benefit from a home with regular exercise and socialization. He will be a great dog for long neighborhood walks, hiking, brewery patios and road trips. Health Notes | Jake is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Jake! Personality | Sophie is a gentle giant (around 75 lbs). She is a very mellow girl, but has that happy waggy tail that is characteristic of most labs. She likes to be around people, and is quite content to nap on the floor, in her bed, or on the couch. She is not crate trained, and her previous family indicated they had no issues with leaving her for hours at a time, she usually just wanted to sleep. Sophie LOVES going on walks and likes to sniff around. She enjoys laying out on the back patio or out in the backyard, and seems to be a quiet girl with no barking or whining noticed thus far. She is also an excellent car rider, happy to stretch out in the backseat and enjoy the journey. I wouldn't describe her as extra cuddly, as in wanting attention all the time, but she will for sure snuggle up to you if you lay down next to her, or let her lay down next to you. She loves head and back scratches. Story | Sophie dear is a 9 year old sweetheart who was surrendered back to MHLRM from a loving family, because of unforeseen circumstances that came on quickly which required a move to help take care of immediate family and to where pets would not be allowed. Other Dogs | Sophie was well loved by her previous family, and had the chance to be around children as well as a few other animals and did well. Cats |  Children | She has lived with children most of her life and does great with them.  Training | Sophie seems to be very treat motivated! She appears to know some basic commands. Her tail starts wagging extra hard when I go for the treat jar. Leash | Sophie LOVES going on walks and likes to sniff around. She enjoys laying out on the back patio or out in the backyard, and seems to be a quiet girl with no barking or whining noticed thus far. Activity Level | While Sophie is now considered a senior dog, she still is moving around well and I have not noticed anything too concerning with her thus far. She could drop a few pounds and has started a weight management diet. Sophie would excel in a home where she gets walked frequently, and to where she is not expected to walk on hardwood floors. Rugs or carpeted floors would be ideal for her. She would like to be able to lay down around you and will come up to you from time to time in order to be recognized and to make sure you are still there and willing to give her treats. Health Notes | Sophie is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm NEGATIVE! Personality | Tilly is super sweet and loving! She loves laying on your lap, giving you kisses, and getting belly rubs! She is already pretty well behaved and will make a wonderful addition to any family. :) She is super cuddly and her preferred napping location is right next to you with her head across your lap.  Story | MHLM pulled her from a Houston shelter when she terribly close to being EUd due to possibly having been hit by a car. She may have had a loving family at one point since she is well-behaved, crate trained, and potty trained.   Other Dogs | Tilly is good with other dogs! She loves to play with her 70 lb foster (dog) brother.  Cats | Good with cats. She mostly ignores her kitty foster brother. She will chase him if he runs across the room but responds to the "no" command and is gentle if she does "catch" him.   Children | She likely would be great with kids, but isn't being fostered with any. She loves every person she meets right away! She would probably love if some kids gave her some belly rubs. :) Training | Tilly is very well behaved for her age! She's great in the crate and will go in there for naps with the door open. She also sleeps in the crate at night without a peep and is fine crated alone while you leave the house. She's been left crated during the work day and did great. She's house trained and will wait by the door patiently when she has to go out. She knows to ring the bells on the door handle when she has to go out. She's extremely treat motivated and eager to please so she will likely be easy to continue training. She's learned  "come" "sit" and "look" while on walks in her new foster home and is continuing to learn new tricks. She hasn't been destructive and prefers chewing on a dog bone. When you're sitting on the couch, she loves you so much that she might jump on your lap and attack your face with kisses!! 💜 She does great on car rides as well. Tilly also loves the water like the good Labrador that she is, especially if there's a ball to retrieve! She's not the best at bringing it back yet though!  Leash | She's decent on a leash when wearing a front latch harness and she came to Colorado with a harness and leash that her future adopters can take home with her. She is getting lots of leash training and improving every day! She is learning to focus on her walker with the "look" command. She's also learned to "sit" to get her leash put on and off. She is a smart girl who is learning lots of new things in her new foster home! She will bark and pull a bit on a leash, but is responding well to training!  Activity Level | High energy. Her injury doesn't seem to slow her down and she would be more than happy to join her family on hikes! She's been happy with long walks, playing with her foster brother, going on runs with her foster mom, and visits to the dog park to release her energy. She loves to chase balls and toys that you throw and is learning how to bring it back! She hasn't been destructive and will occupy herself with nylabones. She is looking for someone to take her on runs and throw lots of balls for her to fetch! She will fetch in and out of the water for as long as you're willing to throw the ball! She learned the "come" command when offleash but will need some more practice.  Health Notes | She has old fractures from possibly being hit by a car. She doesn't let that slow her down and you probably wouldn't even notice the injury if you weren't looking for it! She's up to date on vaccines and is heartworm NEGATIVE! She was spayed on 9/5 and is now ready for all the Colorado adventures! Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.  show less
