General Notes |  Hello, my name is Dakota, and I’m 7 months old. If you’ve ever heard the phrase “Beauty is only skin deep.”, I want you to know that that does not apply to me! When I was picked up, I had almost no fur on me... due to malnutrition and neglect. Imagine that. But the amazing people at Mile High Lab Mission looked way past that and thought I was worth saving. Thru their help and the love of foster parents, my fur is growing back, my appetite is fantastic, and I am quickly returning to full health. I’m not contagious at all, so please don’t worry. My foster mommy thinks I have an ‘old soul’ face, but I don’t know what that means. Believe me, I’m a great catch! All my fosters say so, and I’m doing my best every day to live up to all that’s been done for me. I have learned ILOVE humans and get a real kick out of showing that love. I want to be right beside you with whatever you’re doing, but don’t be upset if I just fall asleep at your feet. If you touch my back, I’ll probably just roll over andask for a belly rub... those are my favorites! I’ve been around a lot of kids and dogs and kitties (I’m curious), so I’ll fit into whatever your family looks like... even if it’s a family of one! I’ve learned that the crate isn’t a scary place to be, although  I’d probably rather curl up with you or kids or other dogs. You won’t need  to worry about house-training me. I’m very good at going outside. You can teach me whatever you want because I’m super-smart!! What I do know is that I am full of love and loyalty to share with someone. Will you give me a chance to show you what real love is like? Thank you for looking deeply! ~Dakota             Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Health Notes | Dakota was found in terrible shape as a stray. The area he was found in has no animal control and he wandered the area for weeks, losing more and more weight. By the time a kind rescuer finallly took him in he barely had any fur left. His skin condition is not contagious and he is already looking a lot better.  Other Dogs | Loves other dogs. More on the submissive side.  Cats |  Children | Loves kids.  His foster is a music teacher in her home.  Dakota loves all the kids and can't wait for them to give him some love! Training | You won’t need  to worry about house-training Dakota,   He is very good at going outside. His foster mom says he is super-smart!! Leash |  Activity Level | I have lots of energy, and I love to play with other dogs, but I don’t play crazy-hard. I have respect for all living things! I love toys and sticks and cheese-stuffed Kongs. Personality | Sweet and happy.  Story |  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Puppies to 1 year - $425, 1-6 years - $375, 7-10 years - $325, and 11+ years - $175. Purebreds are $475 regardless of age. General Notes | Plays hard, but LOVES harder  Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Pepper has so much love to give to her favorite people. She wants to be with them, playing and snuggling, as much as she can. She will make a wonderful family dog where she will be showered with love! Sometimes she is so excited about a person or a toy that she will whimper while playing with them - she can't contain her love! Like most labs, she is very food-motivated, so training her will be a breeze!  Story |  Other Dogs | She loves other dogs! Cats |  Children |  Training | She is doing well with potty training, and has only had a couple of accidents when she has been very excited. It won't take long for her to be completely trained!  Leash | Like most puppies her age, she still isn't sure exactly how to operate with the leash, but she doesn't pull on it - sometimes she just doesn't understand that she can't walk directly under a human's feet or that she doesn't have to stop the second she feels any resistance. She will be a pro in no time! Activity Level | Pepper plays hard and naps hard - she will happily sprint around the yard with her big foster sister, and then when she's done, she will curl up on a human or flop down on a comfy rug or bed to take a nice long nap. General Notes | If you love the Chocolate Labs, then Cooper is your boy!   Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Meet Coco, the sweet and playful chocolate lab looking for her forever home! Coco is an inquisitive pup with a heart of gold. While a little timid at first, she quickly warms up and reveals her happy, affectionate nature. Unlike some puppies, Coco is calm-spirited and enjoys leisurely playtime with her toys. She's also respectful of boundaries, giving the elder resident dog space when redirected. Though not yet a big fan of the crate, Coco slept through the night without a fuss or accidents. With her gentle demeanor and playful spirit, Coco is sure to bring endless joy and love to her new family. Could you be the one to give Coco the loving home she deserves? Story |  Other Dogs |  Cats | She is very interested in my cats.  Will follow them but so far is cautious and doesn't chase them. Children |  Training | Coco loves to sit around the home, and is quickly learning to do so on command. She often sits quietly and observes. Leash | This sweet girl is not only playful and inquisitive but also appears incredibly trainable, thanks to her innate desire to eat! Such a lab, right? Like any young pup, she'll benefit from ongoing training, but her natural intelligence and willingness to learn make her an ideal candidate for a loving family looking to embark on the journey of puppyhood together. Activity Level | This will most likely increase as she grows comfortable, but she currently tends to burn out from play within a shorter period of time. Health Notes |  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Opal has a beautiful silvery coat and wants nothing more to cuddle and play ball. If you are sitting down expect to have an Opal in your lap! Ball is life! She loves retrieving the ball and bringing it back to chew on. Story | Opal was saved with her 8 siblings in Texas that were going to be sold at a park.  Other Dogs | She likes being around the resident dog and has become more confident on walks with him there. She will play some but then likes to chew on a bone or ball.  Cats | She meet the neighbors kitten and didn't seem that interested in him. Children |  Training | We are working on potty training. She's pretty good about holding until you take her outside but she doesn't quite let you know if she needs to go out. Being consistent with potty breaks is helping with limitating accidents inside. She is working on sit under the watchful eye and expertise of the resident dog. She sometimes sits, sometimes jumps, but is very close to understanding this command. She sleeps through the night in the crate. It takes her a couple minutes to settle down. Same with being left alone. Whines some and eventually calms down. Leash | Opal is becoming more confident on walks (and more comfortable/confident overall). She is walking up front with the resident dog more vs looking back to make sure foster mom is still there. She is a gentle walker with no pulling.  Activity Level | Very calm for 5 months (almost 6 months old). She loves to chase after tennis balls but prefers spending her time snoozing in your lap or by your feet while you work. Cole would love to be in his own backyard or playing ball with his new people very soon. Personality | Cole is Mr. Personality! He is goofy, playful, incredibly smart and loves everyone.  Although he will need exercise, he can settle and play with his toys. Story | Cole was brought to a TX shelter as a stray. He spent most of his time chilling in the staff office because there were no more kennels left.  Other Dogs | He loves playing with other dogs.  Cats | Friendly! He had several issues with the cats in his Texas foster home. Children | Gentle and affectionate.  Training | He’s potty trained, good on a leash and is already a master at fetch and “sit.” It helps that he’s very toy/treat motivated and eager to please. His favorites are puzzles and frozen peanut butter kongs. He has no issue sharing his toys and treats. Cole sleeps in his kennel all night without a peep.  He's also doing better at kenneling during the day when needed, although he prefers being with his humans. Leash | Cole walks nicely on leash. He can become distracted at times but overall not terrible considering his age.  Activity Level | Cole is an energetic pup and would prefer an adopter with an active lifestyle. He does know when to settle down and enjoys taking naps throughout the day!  Cole loves being in his yard and especially lying in the sun. Health Notes | No health concerns. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Loving, Energetic, Adaptable, Willing To Learn! Story | Found as a malnourished stray in TX. MHLM was able to get him up to CO where he is living a very happy foster life at the base of Pikes Peak. He listens well when off leash regardless if we're in the yard or on a hike in the woods. Usually will come off one whistle. No accidents in the home. Had a few play dates with a male full size akita and loved it. I think he would do well with another dog in the home. Food motovatied to learn & didnt show any aggression when I would take away his dish or add to it while eating. He hasn't chewed on anything other then his toys. Doesn't mind a crate, but I havent used one with him other then going to the gym. He has free roam of my home while I'm here or sleeping and haven't had any issues. He is a SNUGGLE BUG! Only main focus will fostering him is getting him to gain weight at a healthy speed. Three meals a day. At day 4 he has found his voice to "talk" to you. I personally love it and he doesn't abuse it once you tell him to "hush". Whoever gets to love this boy FOREVER will be sooooo LUCKY!! Other Dogs | Plays well.  Cats | Unsure. His foster does not have any cats. He doesn't seem to have a high prey drive though.  Children | Although he hasn't been around many young kids, Bo would most likely do well in a home with them!
