General Notes |Snowball is perfect, says her foster mama & we agree!  Personality | Snowball is as sweet as can be. A bit timid at first she is just looking to be loved. While she isn't sure about stairs, and is currently living in a single level foster home, she is sure about walks. She loves walks and will stay close by, and she loves sitting out on the deck, and her foster brother. She loves all dogs that she has met so far and has started enjoying her own doggie bed. Snowball does show signs of a hard life before coming to MHLM, she has very few teeth and a tail that was cut - but she can eat her food and wag her little tail and we think she is just perfect. She has never made a peep or barked at anything and just loves sitting at our feet or being near us. If you are looking for a sweet older gal to add to your mix, Snowball could be a great match!  Story | Snowball is a retired breeder dog surrendered to MHLM after her owner passed away. Other Dogs | Friendly! Cats | Children | Training |  Leash |  Activity Level |  Health Notes | Healthy! Snowball is up to date on vaccinations and heartworm NEGATIVE! General Notes | Raindrop, drop top, this little one is cute as they come! Raindrop recently made her way to Colorado from Texas, and is ready to be your best friend. This sweet, shy girl is getting the hang of love, and takes a little time warming up. She is potty trained, crate trained (she LOVES naps in her crate), quiet, and great with dogs both big and small.  She is respectful of her foster siblings boundaries and just wants to be part of the pack. She plays well when they initiate, and is receptive to quiet time and breaks.  This little lady is the whole package - petite, sweet, and absolutely adorable.  Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Raindrop is shy and a little skittish. She warms up quickly and then is a pocket pal - following her foster parents and their dogs everywhere they go! She is goofy, sweet, and likes to give tiny "boops" when she wants attention.  Story | Raindrop was a hoarding and neglect surrender along with nine other dogs, which explains why she's a bit hesitant with new people! Her Texas owners were not the best, so we're grateful she gets a fresh start her in Colorado.   Other Dogs | Great with other dogs, big and small! Gets a little nervous when meeting new friends, but settles in quick and is excited to play. Raindrop is very mindful of cues, and will do great with all dog types.  Cats | Raindrop has met one kitty, and was relatively uninterested, which is what you want in a puppy! Her fosters suspect she'd do well with cat siblings.  Children | Due to past experiences, Raindrop seems a bit more shy with kiddos. Her fosters suspect she would do wonderfully in a 3+ age household, and would fall in love with any and all littles who offer snuggles and treats!  Training | Raindrop is crate trained, potty trained, and working on sit and lay down. She knows "leave it" and is respectful, napping close by at mealtimes.  Leash | Raindrop is just starting leash walking, and is still not so sure how she feels about it (the world is kind of scary!) but learning.  Activity Level | Moderate. Needs consistent engagement but does well during quiet times.  Health Notes |  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Looking for a sweetheart, look no further than this chocolate sweetie!  Personality | A sweetheart with an overall calm demeanor. She can be a bit of a velcro dog and wants to be close to her people. Since she was a breeder dog, she wasn't used to affection, but she enjoys her belly, head, and ear rubs now!. She isn't much of a cuddler yet, but in time and as she gets used to what it's liked to be loved, this will hopefully change. She will let you pull, push, and drag her, lift her in the car, lay on her, and she does not react. She does not play with toys or balls, but every now and then she will play with her ducky. She can be stubborn. Because she was plucked from her only known life as a breeder dog, and is now attended to by her foster mom - she has separation anxiety. Her best life would be hanging with her peeps for most of they day (home office?) and night. She has been left alone for a few minutes and she acts naughty. Nothing distroyed, just gets highly anxed. She should also not be in a kennel for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time. She is not a fan.  Story | Iris (now called Kula, which means Tribe or Community in Sanscrit) was surrendered with many other dogs when a breeder decided to close shop. We are happy that she and all that were surrendered get a second chance at life. We don't know what life was like for her prior to coming to us, but we do know that she will need a little more patience and understanding as she decompresses into her new life. She has started to come out of her shell. When she feels cheeky, she will grab a shoe, socks, pants, candle, gameboy controller, etc. and bring it to you (ish). She did chew up my hair clip and almost took a razor.  Other Dogs | Good with dogs, but can take her time to warm up to some. Kula loves being around her people so much, she'd be happy as a solo dog too. She does wonderfully on group walks with other dogs. She has met other dogs on walks and her tail wags and she stops to explore them. She let a little rat terrior jump all over her with no reaction. She will stay frozen (stubborn) if you don't let her walk to the other dog or person.  Cats |Unsure Children | She did allow a little girl to pet her at the park without moving. Training | Kula was scared of her reflection initially and reacted aggressively to it. She is 99% better today and we correct her behavior. It's easy to know when she is going to do it, so it can be proactively prevented and over time she has stopped doing it. We do not know if she will start it up again in a new home, but there is a way to control it.  We do not cover fixtiures or mirrors anymore - we just tell her no.  She is house broken, but she also will not tell you when she needs to go. We are trying to bell train her with "outside". She will now go pee on command at 9:30 p.m. when we are ready to go to bed. She does not seem to need to go very often and prefers to poop on a walk (usually twice!) In the morning, I try to get her to go in the yard first thing in the morning and she just stands there.  She will get in the kennel only with bribing and coaxing. She was sleeping in the kennel but it was a struggle so we let her sleep on the floor in our room and she is doing great. She comes to bed with us and sleeps through the night.  Leash | Kula loves her walks, and for a foster pup that has never been on a leash - she is great! When she sees other dogs on her walks, her tail happily wags. She may be stubborn and not move if she does not want to go in the direction you want to go - but patience and redirection help. I've jogged with her a bit and she loves the pace.  Activity Level | Kula is a laid back girl, who loves her walks. Very little activity with toys or balls. She just follows her humans. When I work from home, she lays in my office next to me the entire day. When I go get coffee, etc., she follows me. My husband takes her into his office and she lays down, too. Don't let her slowness fool you, though. She will try to escape the front door and go for her own walk or jog.  Health Notes | After being a momma dog for so long, she'll appreciate extra walks to shed some of her baby weight.  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. "I like big dogs and I cannot lie" 🎶 If you're singing this remix, you don't want to miss out on Kaya -- 86lbs of fluffy perfection!  Personality | Kaya is a sweet and loving girl with a smile and soulful eyes that make anyone who meets her fall head over heels! She loves to be by your side and give you hugs! She will jump up on people, but in a gentle way without putting her full weight on you, so she doesn't knock you over! She's a typical large breed that doesn't realize she's a large breed. ;) Her foster family is teaching her that she doesn't get pets and attention when she jumps and she's learning what "down" means. She loves people and will let out happy whimpers when her foster family gets home. She has a lot of love to give to whoever is lucky enough to adopt her and clearly gets attached to her people quickly. :) Her breed is unknown, but she could easily be a purebred great pyr based on her beautiful white coat, giant size, and calm demeanor. Anyone interested should read up on the breed before adopting. Don't miss out on this amazing girl!  Story | Rescued from a NM shelter. Other Dogs | She is friendly and playful with small dogs and large dogs. She prefers to be fed separate from other dogs.  Cats | She is fostered with a cat. She loves the kitty and has been gentle with him.  Children | Friendly! She's very calm and likes to calmly sit by her humans for pets. She's already eye level with most kids so she probably wouldn't jump on them and is calm enough that she likely wouldn't accidently knock any children down when excited. Her excitement usually comes in the form of getting right up next to you for pets! She's also been very tolerant of her foster mom bathing her and brushing out very matted hair, which means she likely will be very tolerant of little kids being in her space. Training | Kaya is a very intelligent dog. She is quickly learning basic commands like sit, down and stay. She sleeps through the night in the crate as long as the crate is in the bedroom where she can see you. Kaya hasn't been destructive at all and has done fine when left roaming the house alone for a few hours. She does like to counter surf (and can reach everything), but all she has grabbed from the counters are dishes to lick clean and hasn't chewed any of them up. She is the perfect motivator to wash the dishes instead of letting them sit in the sink! She will bark when she hears loud noises outside or someone knocks on the door, which is typical for her breed since they were bred to guard. Interested adopters should read up on the breed and understand their tendency to bark to scare away predators and protect their livestock (aka their humans)! Leash | She walks very well on the leash and it's usually a "loose leash." When she does occasionally pull, it isn't with her full strength. So far, she has never pulled hard enough where it's difficult to keep hold of the leash, despite her size! She walks much better on the leash then her much smaller foster brother and is mostly just happy to be by your side. She has not shown any reactivity on the leash towards other dogs, squirrels or people and probably would do just fine tagging along on hikes and to breweries!  Activity Level  Low - medium. Great Pyrenees require regular exercise and mental stimulation. They are bred to protect livestock and are very loyal to their families. She has done well with a few 15-30 minute walks a day and mostly just wants to hang out by your side. She usually naps on the wood floor near the humans, probably because it's cooler then the dog bed with her thick coat!  Health Notes | Healthy! She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and heartworm negative! She has a beautiful, white coat and will need regular brushing to keep it from matting. She's very tolerant to getting groomed, even when brushing out sensitive spots. She was underweight at intake, but has a healthy appetite and is quickly getting where she needs to be. She hadn't been weighed recently, but she is probably heavier than 86 lbs now.  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Kat is a shy, sweet, and cuddly gal looking for her forever home. Since coming to her foster family, she has started to bloom and greatly enjoys playing with their lab and two little dogs in between naps and exploring. Kat is tentative and sensitive, and is slowly learning that humans are pretty fun to be around.  Kat LOVES her crate, and puts herself to bed when she's tired/when she needs a break from play. She goes in and out without a peep, and is one of the most mellow puppies her foster family has ever had.  Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Kat is observant, sweet, and curious.  Story | Kat was pulled from a high kill shelter in Houston with her mom and seven siblings at a week old. She likes to play and chase her foster family's lab, snuggle their little dogs, but also gives them their own time and space as well.  Cats | Kat has only met one kitty, but based on her demeanor, her fosters feel confident she would do wonderfully with cats.  Children | Kat is on the more timid side, and would do well with a slow introduction to kiddos. She doesn't mind being held or carried, but is more skittish and does not like loud noises or people walking directly at her.  Training | In Progress Leash | Kat is not yet able to leash walk due to age, but will work on leash walking once she is of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | What a sweet sweet girl!!  Snowflake is coming out of her shell day by day, and it's been so fun to watch her gain confidence and get more comfortable in her surroundings. She is happy to lounge around and nap or explore outside sniffing around in the yard.  She sleeps through the night on the floor near the bedroom and will greet you with kisses and tail wags every morning! While she doesn't seem interested in cuddling, she wants to be near her humans, and will happily accept pets (though she may take a minute to warm up to new people). When left home alone, Snowflake has not gotten into any trouble - does not chew shoes, counter surf, or get into the trash.  No accidents in the house so she is potty trained.  Story | Snowflake is a retired breeder dog surrendered to MHLM after her owner passed away, and is now learning to live indoors as a spoiled house dog.  Other Dogs | Friendly! Cats | Friendly Children | Friendly! Loves kids  Training | A blank slate. Snowflake is decompressing and adjusting to her new life. She is very well behaved.  Leash | Snowflake does not mind being on a leash.   She did well off-leash as well when we were in a field and on a long walk Activity Level | Medium/low. Health Notes | Snowflake is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Snowflake!  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age.
