General Notes | Meet Rio!! This boy is in search of just the right family who will show him that all humans aren’t scary and mean but are loving and trustworthy. Once Rio learns that you are there to love him and take care of him, he will be your best friend. Right now, he lives in a fairly, quiet home with a foster mom and a foster dad, another dog, two cats and chickens. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Health Notes | Healthy Other Dogs | Rio gets along great with all dogs he has met. Playdates have included small to large dogs and he loves them all. He will play hard and is hysterical to watch as he sits and watches his foster brother dog try and entice him into a game of take away. He will wait until the take away item is dropped and run for it. He must have a home that has a confident dog who likes to play and will show him the way of living the dog life. Cats | Cats might be ok, but the chase is on if they run. Same with chickens so he’d be best without them. Children | Rio would probably do best iin a household with older children or no children. Training | Rio is close to housetrained. He’s been accident free for a few days with the door open for him to go out as he wants and is also escorted out like all puppies after sleeping, eating, and hard play. All other “training” has been focused on not being afraid of what must have been a very dark, start before arriving in Colorado. His main training focus has been meeting and socializing with new people and dogs. Rio is very food motivated which will help with learning basic manners and commands. Leash | Rio loves walks and hikes which he does on a leash with a harness. He does some darting in and out, loves to walk close to his foster brother dog, but really enjoys leading the pack. He’s got a great nose that likes to check things out! Activity Level | Rio has typical puppy energy, he's busy, spunky and a bit sassy but snuggles like the best of them! He loves to play but also loves to hang out and chew on bones and toys and snooze. He likes to be close to the people he trusts but is getting better about not being underfoot. Rio sleeps through the night. He currently is sleeping in an open, medium sized crate on chairs next to the bed. He’ll snuggle for a hot minute, then put himself to bed in the crate. He occasionally wakes up, will get another quick snuggle and goback in the crate by himself. Unfortunately, the cat has figured out if she wakes up the puppy, then she gets fed. So outside to potty, back inside to lick the cat food spoon and maybe eat breakfast, then back to bed where he’ll go back in the crate by himself or sleep on the bed. Story | Rio was part of a labradoodle litter of nine from a breeder in Texas. When he first arrived in Colorado,he was one, scared baby. Everything is becoming less frightening but he does not like being cornered or grabbed so he will do best with a person or family that understands giving him space to build trust and become accustomed to his new life. Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $475. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle
