General Notes |  Everything is new to Huey and he is adapting well, his personality is just starting to show. He is a classic lab --loves water, fetch, humans, dogs and food! Very loyal and doesn't want to be too far from his people (and probably dogs just don't have any in foster home). Working on potty training and basic commands. Since everything is pretty new it could take him a minute to warm up but based on how quickly he has been adapting no doubt that he would adjust quickly to any loving home.   Health Notes | Healthy Other Dogs | Very friendly and respectful meeting new dogs on walks.  Cats | n/a Children | Friendly but reserved  Training | Working on basic commands. Leash | Huey has quickly learned to walk well on a leash. No pulling, just happy to follow. Activity Level | Medium Personality | Sweet, curious, sidekick  Story | Not too much is known but he was rescued with 9 other puppies from Missouri. Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.  show less

General Notes |  Shana is puppy perfection! Sweet, watchful, doting, and mellow - this girl is the whole package! She’s a pocket pal, and enjoys being near her foster parents at all times. She follows them through the house at their side, trotting along in stride. For 3.5 months old, they don’t come calmer or more polite.  Shana sleeps in her crate through the night (although you might hear an occasional squeak from her toy, or a snore from her sweet nose), is learning to walk on a leash, and is great with other dogs! She’s respectful of her foster family’s two small dogs, and enjoys playing with their large lab as well.  It is clear Shana hasn’t spent much time in a house (after being bred and dumped in rural Missouri) so she’s getting the hang of things like doorways and stairs. She’s timid of new spaces at first, but will follow her people anywhere they go.  This girl is a dream, truly, and will make the best companion for a family, an outdoor couple looking for a brewery pup, or a therapy dog! She couldn't be cuter, fatter, or more adorable. Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Health Notes |  Other Dogs | Shana does exceptionally well with her foster family's three other dogs of varying sizes and ages. She is respectful, playful when the initiate, and mindful of their space and boundaries.  Cats | Shana has met one cat and was unphased. Her fosters suspect she'd do wonderfully with a kitty friend in her household. Children | Shana loves people (and children) of all ages. She'd be a wonderful family dog.  Training |  Shana is crate trained and sleeps in her crate through the night. She is working on basic commands and walking on a leash.  Leash | In Progress ! Activity Level | Moderate Personality | Sweet as pie - mellow, watchful, and very go with the flow. She is adaptable, adorable, and very snuggly. Story | Shana was dumped by a breeder in Missouri, and made her way to Colorado in early September with her two sisters. It is evident she was not well taken care of, and had never been inside a house previously. Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Looking for the PERFECT loyal dog? Teddy is your boy! Teddy will be the most obedient boy that will never leave your side.  Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Teddy is a fun loving pup! He LOVES to play with toys, crinkle ones are his favorite, and go for swims. If there is water nearby, Teddy will find it! He LOVES every person he meets. His butt wiggles with excitement anytime a human is around. He is just so happy he was saved by MHLRM.  Do you need a hiking companion or running buddy? Or better yet, does your dog need a BFF to romp with? Then Teddy is your guy! Teddy, or “Teddy Bear” is an energetic, fun-loving dog who wants to play all day. Teddy is a loyal sweetheart who wants to attach himself to anyone and everyone, especially if they’re doing something fun. He’s also an outstanding shadow to stick right by you, he announces when someone is knocking at our door, and most importantly he’s an amazing personal coach to help motivate you to go for a run, ride the bike, or hike a 14-er. He wants to spend quality time doing something active. While he enjoys a very active lifestyle, his current routine does include working from home, which is fine as long as there’s still time to play fetch or go for a walk during a lunch break. After a good run or romp, Teddy loves nothing more than to cuddle with you on the couch. Forget the weighted blanket - let Teddy take care of it! If you’re on the couch, he wants to lay right on your lap. He’s the best 85 lbs lap dog you’ve ever met. Story | He was brought into a Texas shelter as a stray. He is missing fur on the side of his body. The vet believes possibly from a chemical burn and says the hair may or may not grow back. Some hair follicles grew-in backwards over injuries. Although it looks like his fur is standing up, it is really just a cowlick! Other Dogs | Wonderful! Teddy would LOVE to have a sibling doggo to play with every day!  Teddy is polite with other dogs he has met while on leash and his tail is always wagging telling other dogs he wants to say "hi!" Cats | YES!!! He currently lives with two cats, whom he wishes were more excited to play. Sometimes Teddy's energy and size can be more than our cats enjoy -  he wants to play, but he’s never chased our cats. Teddy is perfectly happy to let his feline friends do their own thing. Children | Teddy currently lives with a small 3yo, and can be very sweet with her. Still, he gets excited easily and because he’s a larger dog he can end up becoming a bit much for small kiddos. He might do better in a house with older kids who are a bit bigger.  Teddy doesn't realize his size, so he may accidentally step on some toes.  Training | Teddy recently started learning basic commands and is a fast learner. He’s recently picked up “sit”, “down”, “stay”.  Teddy is early in this training process and like many young enthusiastic doggos still learning how to be the best boy, he sometimes forgets his new commands when he gets excited. Treats and praise and consistency are helping this smart boy to make progress in training. Teddy is fantastic in the crate! He will freely go into his crate if you toss a treat in and he then immediately lays down and sleeps without a peep. He sleeps all night in his crate on the main floor of the house and quietly waits until you get up in the morning to let him out. He is fully house-trained. Leash | Teddy loves going outside, which typically requires the leash. He has been working on pulling, and still has a bit of an improvement to make. He enjoys wearing his harness on walks & runs, which can help.  Activity Level | Teddy is an energetic athletic boy and loves to play in his yard. His current routine includes a 2-3 mile run in the morning and a 3-5 mile run in the evenings with some yard play time in between. He has the ability to be a work-from-home companion - he settles down during that time, but Teddy's ideal adopter is someone active who loves to walk, run, hike, swim, and play outside! Health Notes | Healthy! Teddy is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm NEGATIVE! Before coming to MHLRM, Teddy appears to have suffered some sort of burn which left him with a rather large bald patch on his side and a few smaller bald spots on his back. This does not slow Teddy down at all! He just needs a bit of sunscreen sprayed on before an extended period of time in the sun, and he really loves having an unscented lotion applied to those bald spots at night. His current vet has no concerns about these bald spots.  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Story | Elvira and her two sisters were found as strays in rural Arkansas.  Other Dogs | She loves other dogs and playing! She loves her foster pup sister and always greets her with kisses. Cats | Not sure. Children | She loves kids. Training | Elvira is a smart puppy quickly learning her manners! She LOVES treats which has made training easy. She is potty trained and crate trained. Sleeps through the night with no accidents or crying. Leash | She likes walking in quiet areas and is learning how to walk on the leash. Since staying with a foster that lives in a busy area, Elvira has adjusted well to city noise. She loves smelling and exploring on walks and wants to say hi to every dog she sees! Activity Level | Medium. Elvira is a typical puppy who loves to play and snuggle up with you after. Health Notes | Healthy! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Personality | Hello, I'm Annie! I am a glass half full kinda gal, and like my namesake says about the sun coming out tomorrow - I couldn't agree more! I exude sunshine and happiness. I love everyone I meet, furry and otherwise. And, of course, the feelings are mutual. I am already an accomplished multi-hyphenate in that I was an amazing mama to many litters AND am the bestest girl - won't you let me add a final job to my title of loving family companion as well!? Story | I came from Missouri and spent my past years as a breeder mama. I wasn't, like, a regular mom, I was a cool mom - and while raising little ones was beyond rewarding I've more than earned my 'me' years from here on out to focus on being the dog I was meant to be and love those that bring me into their home.  I am one super friendly gal! I love to greet people when they come to the door, and can even help you keep an eye out for possible new friends walking by! I may not be the best alarm system on my own as I'm known to be quiet and sometimes snooze on the job, but if I have fur brothers or sisters that can take the lead on watch don't worry, I'll be sure to help them out with some vocal accompaniments! I am so loyal and loving - and also very concerned that I am going to be left behind, if I'm being honest. When my people are home, I will follow them everywhere to make sure I don't miss out on anything. I aim to please, and help. I am a dream on a leash, and super easy in the home. But, when everyone leaves the house I do get sad due to my past and need to use a special crate to make sure I feel as safe and secure as I can. It's a must that I use this when on my own for my own safety. This crate will travel with me to my forever home, though, so we'll all have what we need to start off on our best foot! Other Dogs | I would do best in a home with other dogs. I take comfort in their presence and take my cues from them. I would be a great addition to someone's pack! Cats | Unsure  Children | Yes please! You'll see in one of my bio pics that I let my tiny human walk me. I love her.  Training | I am currently working on the basics, including 'sit'. I am very smart and food motivated so all is going well so far (and I've even accepted veggies as 'treats'!) Leash | Yes - I walk without pulling because where you're going is where I want to go anyway! Activity Level | I am in my hot girl walking-era. I am a big fan of walks - whether in the neighborhood with my foster siblings, around the house following my foster family, or just checking out the yard on my own!  Health Notes | I came from a difficult breeding situation where I was overweight (their words, not mine) and not given the TLC I deserved, so my old joints do require some basic OTC vitamins and supplements like Cosequin.  While I am trying to watch my figure for the sake of my joints and health, I sure do love food and can pack it away. Need help preparing my bowl? Happy to lend a paw! I am oh-so obedient and patient - but when the bowls come out it's all hands and paws on deck (and counter!) to help get the job done faster. Adding pumpkin to my food is the way to my heart right now, as is saying things like "no, treats won't spoil your appetite, of course you can have some before dinner"... And...congratulations are in order to me....as I just finished my heartworm treatment! I will be retested to confirm I am negative in 6 months, and MHLRM will pay for it.
