He is comfortable and confident when meeting new people or in new situations. He is down for anything - whether is playing with his toys, exploring the backyard, or playing with his foster family including their kids. Fillmore loves a good game of fetch. He is being fostered with his brother/littlermate Sarge and the two of them have a blast playing chase in the yard. Fillmore is treat motivated and has already started to master "sit". While he is still potty training he does now to sit by the door to go out. He is super smart and so much fun! While he loves to play he also settles down quickly and loves to snuggle up next to his fosters. Story |  Other Dogs | He is being fostered with his brother/littermate and the two of them have the best time together! They love to play chase and then snuggle in together for a snooze. Cats |  Children | Great with kids! Being fostered with two kids - ages 6 and 10- and enjoys their company. He has also had meet and greets with neighbors and their kids and enjoys having them around. Training | He is very smart and treat motivated. Story | Little of 6 puppies were found abandoned in a dumpster in New Mexico.   How awful that people let them down so horribly and yet....he's a sweetheart. Other Dogs | Loves my dog but obviously will need a little time to make sure the other dog isn't going to hurt him. Cats | Unknown Children | Unknown...but I think he'll be great with kids. Training | We are just beginning training since he just arrived.  So far, he's slept all night in his kennel without a peep.  He goes to his kennel periodically to take a nap.  He has pottied outside all day and when I was downstairs, he pottied right by the door....which means he's learning. Leash |  Activity Level | Playful, but not overly crazy.   Health Notes | He has a minor infection on his tail which is being treated with antibiotics. Meet Ham! 🍖  He is 81.3 pounds of loving chocolate lab. He's approximately 14 months old and loves everyone he meets! Ham is described as a super playful, happy and energetic dog. Foster mom says he's a total lover and very affectionate. My foster mom is learning new things about me every day:  1. I enjoy car rides; especially to the dog park!  2. I prefer a ball in my mouth to a treat 🎾  3. I can carry two balls until I celebrate that I have two; then one drops! Oops 😝  4. If there are two dogs fetching, Mom needs three balls. Are you getting the hint? I LOVE balls. 5. Like most larger breed, higher energy dogs, I love to run and when exercised I am such a good, well behaved boy 🥰    Personality | Energetic, friendly, youthful, tall chocolate lab. He loves all people he meets. He enjoys snuggles and pets of all kinds. He loves playing with his foster dog brother. He prefers daily walks and routine. He would love to be on your lap, but he finds a dog bed comfy too.  Story | Ham was surrendered at a kill shelter in Texas. He was hand-selected by Mile High Lab Mission because of his truly affectionate nature and good looks.  Other Dogs | Super dog friendly. He enjoys playing hard and frequently with his 70lb Labrador foster brother. They have a 'ball' playing together. He enjoys doggie daycare and the dog park. He’d love another doggie playmate in the home. He attended his first adoption event on 2/17 and did GREAT. Did not bark at other dogs, had 8 week old puppies in his space and curious about his face, and he wagged his tail at their attention. This was a high stimulis enviornment and he did not over react but rather showed happiness and excitement to be there. He was the biggest dog there and he greeted everyone as if they were old friends.  Cats | Not tested. Children | He did fantastic with kids at the adoption event. He had a small child repeatedly come to him for face licks and she toddled away giggling each time.  Training | He knows sit, down, off, come. Good with boundaries like out of the kitchen. We’ve only had him since Jan 22. He has made massive improvements on his leash and obedience training. He is eager to please and very food motivated. We’ve taken him to Petco twice to train in a high simulating environment. He gets on our couch and bed, but we immediately tell him “off" and he responds appropriately. He taught himself to use the dog door. He is completely potty trained. He also rides well in a car as he has traveled from Colorado Springs to Denver.  We leave him in a pen. His pen is approximately  4’X4’X4’. We leave him daily for 2-4 hours.  He will bark for 15 min and eventually settles down.  We have a camera on him when we leave. We leave him with a handful of kibble, but no toys.  He sleeps quietly in a crate overnight from about 10PM to 8AM. We take him outside right before bed and say, “get busy.” He will practically pee on command.  The crate sleeps in overnight is: approximately: 41’ x 29”x29” He is a hard chewer. The Extreme Kong and Extreme Kong ball are best for him. He has grabbed socks and shoes to get us to play. He has not chewed on anything inappropriate. He tends to hang out near us and be around people.  Leash | He's a learning very quickly to heel or walk with a loose leash. Does very well on a retractable leash. He is super eager to meet all people and dogs he sees. He will heel on leash. We’ve done recall training on a 30’ leash. We have not gone off leash except at the dog park.  Activity Level | High energy until it is time to sit on your lap, the couch or his dog bed. He would thrive in a large yard and daily walks or runs and regular strenuous exercise. He currently walks twice a day for 30 minutes and goes to the dog park several times a week.  Health Notes | Ham is up to date on all vaccines, neutered, microchipped and heartworm NEGATIVE. He weighs 81.3 lbs. He currently eats three times a day. (this could be changed to 2 times a day)  He gets two cups of food at each feeding. He eats on an elevated stand about 12” high. He uses a slowdown bowl. His favorite place to hang when I am home is under my feeet at my desk. George can be a little hesitant when meeting new people, someone must have scared him at some point, but after he sees that you are kind he will melt. He walks great on the leash, he is working on being less skittish around cars but stays close and does not pull. He is learning all the manners from his foster brother and would do great with a dog sibling or as an only dog - as he develops his confidence and trust. The softest fur and sweetest eyes, and he is super smart and food motivated. He learned how to sit in days with the help from some american singles cheese slices - hes a big fan of cheese!  Currently living in a foster home in Steamboat, he loves loves the snow and loves bouncing around the yard once he gets comfortable. Geroge is a gem!  Story | George came from Texas with his other littermates.  Other Dogs |  Geroge loves other dogs, he can be nervous/shy at first but quickly learns that he has dog friends and he loves it!  Cats | He has not tried to chase our chickens - walks right up to them and just sniffs.  Children |  He loves kids! Training | George is a smart puppy! He has done very well in the kennel and is now potty trained. Witht he help of some more cheese he has conquered the doggie door! We are working on commands and not jumping when we get so excited - he can sit and we are working on stay and down.  Leash | George loves going for walks with his foster brother, so much for him to take in and he is adjusting to all the sounds of cars, trucks, other dogs etc. He has loved all other dogs he has met while on walks and he does not pull but prefers to stay close by.  Activity Level |  Plays hard and naps hard!  Health Notes |  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Duke is a very goofy and happy boy! He loves all people and dogs of all sizes. He is a typical Lab puppy, ready to learn, to please, and to play. Story | Duke and his siblings were rescued from an overcrowded breeding situation. We believe he spent most of his time outside before reaching the rescue.  Other Dogs | Duke would do WONDERFULLY with another playful dog at home. He is still learning social boundaries with older dogs, but he loves to play with his 2 year old and his 10 week old foster siblings. He's also been to daycare a couple times already and gets along with all the dogs he meets. Another dog will also help him learn how to be an indoor dog. If he doesn't have a sibling, he will need extra socialization, enrichment, and exercise to keep him happy and healthy. Cats | Unknown for sure, but he will most likely just want to play with him. No pray drive has been observed. Children | Unknown. While so friendly, he will most likely play rough with kids like he does with adults. He will need training and to learn boundaries with kids to keep them safe from his jumping and mouthy behavior. Training | This boy has a lot to learn, but he is extremely smart and food motivated. He does very well in a crate at night, but will need to be crated during the day if unsupervised during training. He LOVES to chew and needs some redirection on what is a toy and what is not. He has a fondness for anything that will fit in his mouth, but he is very responsive to redirection. He knows how to use the dog door, but does have occasional accidents if he isn't taken out regularly. Leash | Not much experience. Activity Level | He is a typical Lab with a TON of energy, but he also loves to nap and cuddle with his people. Health Notes | Very healthy, recently neutered boy. Thank you! | Duke is currently being fostered in the Northglenn area. Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Trey is a total sweetheart. He is gentle, loving and full of tail wags. This handsome boy is eager to please his people. We're certain he'll be the perfect addition to your life! Story | Trey was picked up by animal control as a stray. He had an open wound from a recent leg amputation. We have no idea how he ended up on the streets with such a fresh wound and no one came to the shelter to claim him. He's healed nicely and is ready to take on lots of Colorado adventures with you! Other Dogs | Great. Trey is super friendly with other dogs. He doesn't let being a tripod slow him down at all. He loves to run around with other dogs. Cats | not sure  Children | Trey has been abused in the past and is therefore a little nervous when people come up behind him. I would suggest a home with older kids that can respect his boundaries until he is fully comfortable with them   Training | Trey is a smart dog! He quickly learned commands like sit, down and stay. No more couter suffering for this guy! He is fully potty trained  Leash |  Activity Level | low energy. He has bursts of energy in the morning and when he hasn't seen you for awhile.  otherwise he likes to sleep. He can go on walks, it's just a slower pace.  Health Notes | Trey is a tripod. We aren't sure what happened to his leg resulting in the amputation but he doesn't let it slow him down. He's still a playful, happy pup! Trey is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Trey!
