Meet Ham! 🍖 He is 81.3 pounds of loving chocolate lab. He's approximately 14 months old and loves everyone he meets! Ham is described as a super playful, happy and energetic dog. Foster mom says he's a total lover and very affectionate. My foster mom is learning new things about me every day: 1. I enjoy car rides; especially to the dog park! 2. I prefer a ball in my mouth to a treat 🎾 3. I can carry two balls until I celebrate that I have two; then one drops! Oops 😝 4. If there are two dogs fetching, Mom needs three balls. Are you getting the hint? I LOVE balls. 5. Like most larger breed, higher energy dogs, I love to run and when exercised I am such a good, well behaved boy 🥰 Personality | Energetic, friendly, youthful, tall chocolate lab. He loves all people he meets. He enjoys snuggles and pets of all kinds. He loves playing with his foster dog brother. He prefers daily walks and routine. He would love to be on your lap, but he finds a dog bed comfy too. Story | Ham was surrendered at a kill shelter in Texas. He was hand-selected by Mile High Lab Mission because of his truly affectionate nature and good looks. Other Dogs | Super dog friendly. He enjoys playing hard and frequently with his 70lb Labrador foster brother. They have a 'ball' playing together. He enjoys doggie daycare and the dog park. He’d love another doggie playmate in the home. He attended his first adoption event on 2/17 and did GREAT. Did not bark at other dogs, had 8 week old puppies in his space and curious about his face, and he wagged his tail at their attention. This was a high stimulis enviornment and he did not over react but rather showed happiness and excitement to be there. He was the biggest dog there and he greeted everyone as if they were old friends. Cats | Not tested. Children | He did fantastic with kids at the adoption event. He had a small child repeatedly come to him for face licks and she toddled away giggling each time. Training | He knows sit, down, off, come. Good with boundaries like out of the kitchen. We’ve only had him since Jan 22. He has made massive improvements on his leash and obedience training. He is eager to please and very food motivated. We’ve taken him to Petco twice to train in a high simulating environment. He gets on our couch and bed, but we immediately tell him “off" and he responds appropriately. He taught himself to use the dog door. He is completely potty trained. He also rides well in a car as he has traveled from Colorado Springs to Denver. We leave him in a pen. His pen is approximately 4’X4’X4’. We leave him daily for 2-4 hours. He will bark for 15 min and eventually settles down. We have a camera on him when we leave. We leave him with a handful of kibble, but no toys. He sleeps quietly in a crate overnight from about 10PM to 8AM. We take him outside right before bed and say, “get busy.” He will practically pee on command. The crate sleeps in overnight is: approximately: 41’ x 29”x29” He is a hard chewer. The Extreme Kong and Extreme Kong ball are best for him. He has grabbed socks and shoes to get us to play. He has not chewed on anything inappropriate. He tends to hang out near us and be around people. Leash | He's a learning very quickly to heel or walk with a loose leash. Does very well on a retractable leash. He is super eager to meet all people and dogs he sees. He will heel on leash. We’ve done recall training on a 30’ leash. We have not gone off leash except at the dog park. Activity Level | High energy until it is time to sit on your lap, the couch or his dog bed. He would thrive in a large yard and daily walks or runs and regular strenuous exercise. He currently walks twice a day for 30 minutes and goes to the dog park several times a week. Health Notes | Ham is up to date on all vaccines, neutered, microchipped and heartworm NEGATIVE. He weighs 81.3 lbs. He currently eats three times a day. (this could be changed to 2 times a day) He gets two cups of food at each feeding. He eats on an elevated stand about 12” high. He uses a slowdown bowl. Thank you! | Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.
