General Notes | Paco (or Taco as his foster family calls him) is a gentle sweet boy who is loving his new life in Colorado! Paco is smart, funny, sweet, gentle and eager to please! He's 50lbs, around two years old, has low to moderate energy (he loves to sleep on the couch all day) and doesn't shed or bark. He gets along great with the three other dogs in his foster home, and is more passive in his demeanor. Paco is potty trained, crate trained and sleeps in his crate through the night, polite on a leash (he loves walks and is very gentle, always at your side), and gets along great with both big and small dogs. He knows sit, lay, stay, and come as commands. He understands the need for personal space with little dogs and has been very receptive to his foster sibling's cues, and plays well with the lab in their home. Paco likes his rest, and spends much of his day curled up on the couch, or playing independently with toys. He loves toys, but doesn't destroy them - he just likes to carry them around and show them off! Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Personality | Paco is a little bit shy upon first meeting, but settles in well and loves cuddles, treats, and affection from his people. He doesn't mind when his foster siblings steal his toys, and is respectful of their limits. Story | Paco was saved from a high kill shelter where he was on the euthansia list due to limited space. Other Dogs | Friendly! Paco likes meeting other dogs and has done well with meet and greets in the neighborhood. He tends to be slightly scared at first - he is definitely a beta, and follows the assumed leader of the pack. Cats | We think Paco would do well with cats due to his calm demeanor and passive behavior. Children | Paco is skittish at first, but with a proper introduction would love a home with kiddos. He gets a little nervous by fast movements, but as he adjusts does well and seeks out affection. Paco is a pup that will take some time to settle, but truly will be the perfect family dog. Training | Learns quickly. In a few days has learned come, sit, stay & down.. Leash | Walks well. Is observant of activities Activity Level | Low to moderate - Paco will go for a walk each day, but doesn't need extensive exercise. He is pretty mellow. Health Notes | Paco is heartworm positive. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment with one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Paco! Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $475. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
