General Notes | Tortilla is a quiet, calm, and exceptionally loving pooch who would make an easy addition to any family. She seeks connection with all humans and is gentle, affectionate, and relaxed around kiddos of all ages. She is accepting and deferential to other dogs, but not especially playful. This easy-going lady is going to be the perfect addition to your family! Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Health Notes | Tortilla is heartworm positive. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment with one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. He takes his medicine with food no problem. Don't let this stop you from adopting Tortilla! Other Dogs | Dog Tolerant. Tortilla lives with another dog in her foster home. She enjoys the company of other dogs but doesn't initiate play with them. She hasn't shown any food or toy aggression. Cats | Unknown. Does display a lot of interest in squirrels and other small animals. Children | Loves kiddos of all ages. Tortilla's human foster sisters are six and two and she loves getting lots of attention from them. She regularly attends her foster sister's soccer games and loves getting hugs and pets from the whole team. Tortilla loves giving kisses and is very calm and doesn't jump or knock little kids over. Training | Tortilla doesn't know any commands yet, but she's eager to please and will surely pick up on the basics quickly. Leash | Tortilla is very well-behaved on the leash. She doesn't pull, she stays on the sidewalk, and she doesn't get easily distracted. Tortilla does seem like an escape artist, so it's best to work on some training before testing her off-leash or giving her unsupervised time in your yard. Activity Level | While Tortilla doesn't have 'bouncing off the walls' energy, she IS a young dog and does require daily exercise to stay healthy and happy. She's incredibly athletic and can jump quite high. She would do best in a home that can give her an outlet for this energy and athleticism. When bored, Tortilla does like to chew (on toys or anything else that looks interesting!) so it's best to offer her a variety of dog-friendly activities to occupy her at home. Her favorite toys are soft, squeaky ones and she does enjoy playing fetch. Personality | VERY sweet. VERY easygoing. She is calm amid chaos. All she wants is connection with her humans. A Few Other Notes | Tortilla is comfortable in her kennel and does not bark or whine when left alone. Tortilla does well on car rides, but she DOES want to be in your lap so it's best to safely restrain her in a kennel or harness. Tortilla is not food motivated. She can be quite shy with food and won't always accept treats unless she's feeling very comfortable. Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $475. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
