Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Watch a Facebook Reel of Harley in Foster Care Personality | Hellloooo miss Harley! This sweet charmer with the BEST smile may be an older gal but don't let that stop you from considering her, because she has the spunk and energy of a dog half her age! Want a hiking partner?! This is the babe for you. She loves the outdoors, walks, playtime, chew toys, playing in the snow, tug-of-war, chase-the-ball, and she's always wagging her tail. She loves pettings and couch cuddles, and she'll fall asleep next to you if you'll let her. Harls is the perfect companion to curl up next to when its time to watch a rom-com but she also enjoys watching Frasier and Seinfeld. And people...when Harley lets out her soft howl at the sound of a fire engine, hearts melt. Harley is loyal and fun. She will greet you with a smile every moment. You'll be the center of her world! Because of her past, Harley would do best with an adopter who has a big yard or likes to take several walks during the day - Harley loves to be outside. She loves a good couch too but this girl appreciates the sunshine and fresh air. Miss H can be a little set in her ways, given she was left to fend for herself for her entire life... but she listens so well. Within one week, she learned shake on both paws, down, sit, and roll over. Story | Harley spent most of her life on a chain in a backyard. Her "owner" would bring her into the garage if the weather was too bad (how nice 🙄). Thankfully, she was surrendered to MHLRM and now will have the life she deserves! Other Dogs | She was not socialized very much given her living situation. Because of this, Harley perfers a slower introduction to dogs: We recommend an adopter that understands the importance of slow intros. When done correctly, Harley is friendly and playful with other dogs, she has lived with other dogs in the home. She will be fine in a home where all dogs have clear boundaries set by their owners. She listens to commands well and is eager to please. Harley knows her name and listens well when redirected. Harley LOVES her people and would be happy to be your one-and-only dog too. Cats | She's been in a foster home with multiple cats and did fine. She tolerates cats rubbing up against her even stealing her snackies, and her foster has four super friendly cats that have tested this theory. Children | Great! Harley is friendly with all humans. Training | She came to us a blank slate. Sadly, no one ever took the time to train Harley in her original home. She would do best with an adopter that has patience and will give her time to settle into a routine - but already in a few weeks, she has learned several commands, including no bark, shake, etc. She will try to convince you she is the boss but falls in line once she understands the house rules. (Can't say I'm not guilty of the same thing.) Harley is a smart girl and just needs some time and consistency to shine. Leash | She'll tug when excited, but a front-lead harness works like a charm. Tugging subsides once she gets going a few minutes into her walks. Harley loves exploring and did great on a leashed hike! Harley does well in the car by the way! Activity Level | Don't underestimate this 10 year old girl! She can keep up with the best of them. Harley has the spirit of a puppy. She loves going on hikes, playing fetch, and chewing on toys. Harley enjoys a good nap, she sleeps well throught the night. Health Notes | Harley is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education - and she can live a long, healthy, normal life - rarely experiencing any long-term side effects. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Don't let this stop you from adopting Harley because you'll be missing out on an absolute best friend gem! Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page! We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
