General Notes | Sammy is the perfect dog for someone looking for a sweet, fluffy, cuddly boy!  Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Sammy is a happy boy with lots of energy and love to give. He is still learning all about life off the streets. He is eager to please and very treat motivated which makes training so much easier. He is as sweet and loving as they come. He loves to cuddle with his humans and his favorite spot is cuddled up on the couch! Story | Sammy was picked up as a stray in Texas. He was on the euthansia list at a high kill shelter due to limited space. We're so happy to give him a second chance in Colorado! Other Dogs | Wonderful. Sammy is very playful and enjoys being around other dogs. He doesn't always understand doggy social cues (wants to play) and should be adopted in a home with a patient dog, another super playful dog, or be the only dog in the home. He will try to steal other dog's food while they're eating and is being fed separately. Cats | not good with cats  Children | Sammy did great with a foster's 6 year old daughter!  Training | Sammy is learning things every day. He now knows sit, paw, shake and is doing great with leave it and stay! He is eager to please and loves treats. He is great at being crated at night and sleeps through the entire night without making a peep or having any accidents. We have no issues crating him during work or when running errands. He also loves his kong with a little bit of peanut butter, and will run into his crate when he see's it being prepared. He is showing his smarts in other ways as well, as he figured out the doggie door within a day. He hasn't chewed up anything he isn't supposed to and is good about only chewing on his dog toys! He also knows what "no" means and has been great at responding to the command immediately. He is also the perfect car passenger and sits quietly in the backseat gazing out the window! Leash | He's working on it! Sammy is such a friendly boy that wants to say hi to every dog he passes. He will be great with more practice! He has been working on walking with a gentle lead. While it is not always his favorite thing, he is doing well with it for the most part and it has him walking better every day. He still wants to play with every dog he passes though! He's super food motivated, so it's easy to grab his attention when another dog is nearby by making him focus (command is "look") on you for a treat! He's been getting a little better on the leash every day as long as you have lots of treats to reward him when he's being the best boy!  Activity Level | Sammy has medium energy. He loves to play fetch and go for long walks, but is also happy chewing on a dog bone next to you. He loves soft, stuffed toys and enjoys a good dog bone as well! He likes to play tug-of-war and has not been overly aggressive chewer. He likes to show off his cuteness by pouncing around with his toys! Health Notes | Sammy is heartworm positive. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment with one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Sammy! This is nothing in the long run of having a great life with this sweet boy! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $475. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Watch a Facebook Reel of Harley in Foster Care Personality | Hellloooo miss Harley! This sweet charmer with the BEST smile may be an older gal but don't let that stop you from considering her, because she has the spunk and energy of a dog half her age! Want a hiking partner?! This is the babe for you. She loves the outdoors, walks, playtime, chew toys, playing in the snow, tug-of-war, chase-the-ball, and she's always wagging her tail. She loves pettings and couch cuddles, and she'll fall asleep next to you if you'll let her. Harls is the perfect companion to curl up next to when its time to watch a rom-com but she also enjoys watching Frasier and Seinfeld. And people...when Harley lets out her soft howl at the sound of a fire engine, hearts melt. Harley is loyal and fun. She will greet you with a smile every moment. You'll be the center of her world! Because of her past, Harley would do best with an adopter who has a big yard or likes to take several walks during the day - Harley loves to be outside. She loves a good couch too but this girl appreciates the sunshine and fresh air.  Miss H can be a little set in her ways, given she was left to fend for herself for her entire life... but she listens so well. Within one week, she learned shake on both paws, down, sit, and roll over.  Story | Harley spent most of her life on a chain in a backyard. Her "owner" would bring her into the garage if the weather was too bad (how nice 🙄). Thankfully, she was surrendered to MHLRM and now will have the life she deserves!  Other Dogs | She was not socialized very much given her living situation. Because of this, Harley perfers a slower introduction to dogs: We recommend an adopter that understands the importance of slow intros. When done correctly, Harley is friendly and playful with other dogs, she has lived with other dogs in the home. She will be fine in a home where all dogs have clear boundaries set by their owners. She listens to commands well and is eager to please. Harley knows her name and listens well when redirected.  Harley LOVES her people and would be happy to be your one-and-only dog too. Cats | She's been in a foster home with multiple cats and did fine. She tolerates cats rubbing up against her even stealing her snackies, and her foster has four super friendly cats that have tested this theory.  Children | Great! Harley is friendly with all humans. Training | She came to us a blank slate. Sadly, no one ever took the time to train Harley in her original home. She would do best with an adopter that has patience and will give her time to settle into a routine - but already in a few weeks, she has learned several commands, including no bark, shake, etc. She will try to convince you she is the boss but falls in line once she understands the house rules. (Can't say I'm not guilty of the same thing.) Harley is a smart girl and just needs some time and consistency to shine. Leash | She'll tug when excited, but a front-lead harness works like a charm. Tugging subsides once she gets going a few minutes into her walks. Harley loves exploring and did great on a leashed hike!  Harley does well in the car by the way! Activity Level | Don't underestimate this 10 year old girl! She can keep up with the best of them. Harley has the spirit of a puppy. She loves going on hikes, playing fetch, and chewing on toys. Harley enjoys a good nap, she sleeps well throught the night. Health Notes | Harley is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education - and she can live a long, healthy, normal life - rarely experiencing any long-term side effects. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Don't let this stop you from adopting Harley because you'll be missing out on an absolute best friend gem! Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | "P" is for people; Piper's most favorite thing! Piper loves her humans, maybe even more than other dogs; though it's a close second.  Personality | Piper is such a lover! She wants to be held or lay on your lap and will cover your chin in sweet puppy kisses! She loves everyone she meets and has no "stranger danger." Her whole body will wiggle and waggle when you walk into the room. She is pretty chill for a puppy. She is happy to chase squeaky toys for a bit and then content to lay on the couch with you or her other favorite spot is on the heating floor vents. She is still independent enough to venture outside on her own and chew some sticks.  Story | Piper and her 8 siblings, along with her mom, were on the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter in Houston Texas and Mile High saved all of them within 24 hours of the deadline.  Other Dogs | Piper has always been around other dogs and loves them! She was the first to initiate play with the 85lb resident lab in the foster home. She loves to get low and pounce towards the big lab and isn't affraid to go sniff her when she's sleeping. She is the resident lab's favorite, and the ONLY puppy that has been allowed to sleep on the picky resident dog!  Cats | Piper has been fostered with 3 cats and did great with them. Children | Piper loves the kiddos! She happily accepts their pets and belly rubs and doesn't mind being picked up and carried around. She loves that their energy matches hers! She would be so happy to have a family with kids that will give her endless love.  Training | Like any puppy, Piper will need training. She is doing great with crate and potty training! With potty breaks outside after naps, after playtime and after eating there have been very minimal accidents in the house. She has started to go sit by the back door if she needs to go outside, and once outside she knows immediately what she is supposed to do. Now that her two siblings have been adopted, she has quickly adjusted to being a single puppy and sleeps in a crate by herself in her foster's bedroom from 10pm until 6am without issue or need for a potty break. She LOVES her food, even loves raw fruit and vegetables, so will be easy to train. She was able to master going up the stairs with some apples as encouragement.  Leash | Piper is still a young puppy. She needs more exposure and time to learn the leash! Activity Level | Piper seems to be pretty calm for a puppy. She will play with some toys for a bit and then happy to lay on the floor by you while you work or do chores around the house. She has tolerated being crated for 4hr increments while people are out of the house. Her foster mom has watched her on the camera and she does not bark or whine, either sleeps or chews on some toys, and she loves a frozen peanut butter Kong to keep her occupied for a bit, and no accidents in the crate!  Health Notes | Piper and her siblings all had some medical problems early on, but with the love and support and quick medical attention from Mile High, they have all made a full recovery and are growing healthy and strong now! These are some tough puppies!   Thank you! | Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | sweet and cuddly. Gretchen is so excited to see her people in the morning! This girl loves toys! She will chase them all and bring them back to her bed! She is still unsure of adult men. We are working on her trusting foster dad. Story | Surrendered with 8 siblings to the rescue. At 6 months they are just being introduced to the world outside a house/backyard. She will need an adopter that is willing to introduce her to ALL the things that the bigger world has to offer! She does best in a home with women and girls. She did great with fosters daughter and foster mom but is scared of foster dad. She is most comfortable when men are not around. She did make some progress meeting men on walks but we feel like she will thrive in a house full of girls!b Girl Power! Other Dogs | good with other dogs. There might be an adjustment period initially. She was introduced to foster dogs and has done really well. She will let them know if she is scared with a little growl.  Cats | Barks at cats as they were unknown. Foster cats stay clear.  Children | sweet with kids. I imagine she will be completly adjusted to them before transport. She can still be timid around them as she was not exposed at all. Training | Loves walking on a leash (typical puppy zig-zag style). Crates at night with minimal loud complaining (10-15 minutes). Learning sit. close to being fully potty trained. Regular trips outside a must! Super treat motivated will make basic training easy with this girl! Leash | working on it! zig-zag puppy style. excited to be out sniffing around. Activity Level | medium. General Notes  Drama-free puppy: house-trained, crate-trained, loves people and dog friends! Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Willow immediately loves all humans and dogs that she meets. She is gentle with her play and will quickly take the passive role with other dogs. She would be a great first dog; friendly, super happy, willing to listen, trainable and hangs out in her crate when needed. She does love her dog friends so she would also be a fantastic friend for another dog. She sleeps through the night in her crate and knows a few commands (she loves food, of course, so will do whatever it takes).  Story | She was rescued in Texas Other Dogs | Willow LOVES to play with other dogs and understands healthy play boundaries. Very quick to be submissive but she's also confident and will initiate play. Cats | Willow generally ignores cats and lets them go about their days. Children | Unknown Training | She is fully potty trained and understands that the bathroom is outside. At this age, she needs to be let out every couple of hours to prevent avoidable accidents. She has not had any accidents at her foster home so far and will stand by the door when she has to go. Good girl! Leash | Willow is a typical lab that loves to be outside, loves walks, but still needs a help with loose leash walks. She gets excited like most young dogs, but easily re-directed.  Activity Level | Willow is an active pup who is constantly curious and loves to run. She understands fetch and does well with bringing her toys back to be thrown again! General Notes | Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Goose is absolutely gorgeous and looking for his forever wingman.  This Top Gun pooch is very sweet and always smiling.  He's never far from his fostering wingman.  He's crate trained, and house broken.  At just 1yo, he's at the perfect age to train into whatever the owner desires.  His hunting breed instinctively puts his nose to the ground to search out the scent of any wildlife around.  Off leash, he's never more than 20 feet away, and always looking around for his wingman. He's perfect for those that enjoy outdoor activities such as camping and hiking.  His on leash training is making success very quickly.  His appearance and personality resembles that of a pure bred Labrador Retriever. Goose loves people and is a welcome greeter to whoever comes to visit.  He's great with other dogs and loves to play.  When it's quiet time, Goose can be found either on his dog bed or at your feet.  He sleeps through the night peacefully and completely silent.  The new owner may want to change his name to Crisco or Butter because he just melts in your arms. General Notes | Meet Sylvia, who is as smart and sweet as she is Gorgeous!  Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | Sylvia is such a fun puppy who has such good energy and loves to explore!  Story | Breeder "oopsie" litter  Other Dogs | Sylvia is so sweet and is loving to play and learn from her 8 yr old furry foster sister. Cats | She is a baby so we are sure with a good introduction... Sylvia will probably chase the cat and want to play!  With some firm but gentle corrections from you (and a few swats from kitty..) Were sure, eventually.. they will be friends!  Children | Sylvia is such a snuggler and has such a great personality, we know she will loved being a family dog.  Remember, puppies are just babies, so they need training and patience, and dont know that their little shark teeth hurt.  So both children & puppies need to learn from each other about play time and when its "time out" and everyone gets their space.  Good boundries create the best relationships!  Training | Smart!  This girl is smart and food motivated, which helps ;)  She is doing great on her potty training and has mastered the doggie door!  Not bad for a puppy!  Leash |  Activity Level | Foster mom says Sylvia has "fun energy" and is a total snuggler once all her adventures are done.  A little nap and she's at it again! Health Notes | Happy & Healthy!  Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog). General Notes | Are you wanting to adopt a cuddly, snuggly puppy?  If so, read all about little Lily.    Hello, I’m Lovable Lily!  I LOVE to be loved and get whatever attention I can get.  I’m adventurous and love to explore outside nature, sticks, rocks, pinecones and SNOW around my foster mom and dad’s mountain home.  I have been with my sister, Tula since birth.  We love each other SO MUCH!  We love to roughhouse, play chase, tug-o-war, and keep away for hours and hours each day.  My puppy teeth are still coming in and are very sharp, but I’m learning what not to chew on.  Mom says I can’t use her as a chew toy any longer.  I just started to learn where it’s acceptable (that’s a big word I just learned) and where it’s not.  I love to snuggle with my sister and my foster parents.  Sometimes I snuggle with them at night while they watch tv.  I kinda like all the new sounds and pictures I see on tv.  It makes me curious about what else out there in this big world.  Sometimes I can be a little cautious of big, new things (like big boulders or outside trash cans).  My foster mom tells me this is completely normal for puppies.  Sometimes I shake a little when I’m scared, but mom always calms me down quickly.  I love treats and am learning new tricks each day.  I’m training my foster parents to take me outside to go potty.  It’s a lot of work!  Mom says I’m VERY smart, though!   Overall, I think I’m a good fit for a loving and active family/person/couple who want to be engaged in my life.  Will you be my forever humans? Personality | This puppy is a super cuddler!  She will fall asleep in your lap like a little baby!  She has a sweet disposition and loves to be around her sister and humans! Story |  Other Dogs | She is just a baby so she will do fine with all dogs. Cats | She will grow up with them and do great! Children | Of course! She is just a puppy. Training | Lily is a very smart puppy!  At 12 weeks of age she already knows sit, leave it and no.  She is learning to go potty outside.  She is crate trained and will sleep in it all night and naps during the day in it as well.  Leash |  Activity Level | She is a very normal puppy - will play with her sister and all their toys then she needs a nap!  She loves being outside - it is all an adventure for her. Health Notes | Lily and her siblings all had some medical problems early on, but with the love and support and quick medical attention from Mile High, they have all made a full recovery and are growing healthy and strong now! Personality | Cooper boy! This handsome fella is the epitome of a lab personality- super sweet, loyal and very smart. He's catching onto potty training very quick and absolutely LOVES dogs! He's great with his foster cat as well! He loves to snuggle and be next to you at all times. He is the definition of a velcro dog :) Story | Cooper and several of his 5 month old siblings came to us from Texas. Other Dogs | loves other dogs! Cats | great with cats as well Children |  Training | He seems to be mostly potty trained and does well in the crate! Leash | He needs some consistency in how to walk on leash but seems to learn quickly by walking with other dogs to see how it is done. Activity Level | He's on much more of a calm side for a lab but loves to play with other dogs Health Notes | Very healthy boy! As a typical lab, he inhales his food, so we use a slow-feeder bowl for him. Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. General Notes | Looking for a new BFF?  You have to meet Suki, because she is looking too! Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.   Personality | She loves  people!! She wants to play with everyone. She likes to follow you around and be involved in whatever you are doing. She will make sure she knows where you are at all times. Maybe lay at your feet while you cook, she'll lay in her bed in the office while you work - you get the picture! Suki also likes to hrow toys up in the air and catch them - she likes to see how far she can throw them - she especially likes the sound of her chew bones hitting the hardwood floor. She does not bark much - she does not bark in the crate and will enter the crate with no problem. She might bark to be playful and cheeky if she wants you to do something. She likes to sit next to you (maybe at your feet) and sleep next to you, however, she is not a licker, crowder, or a leaner. She likes to find her own space in the room/house. Over time - as she matures - she will be a great sidekick, adventurer, excercise enthusiast, and lovebug. She loves going outside to do her business on her own terms and time - she does NOT do her business on a leash - she needs a fenced yard.  Story | Suki is almost one now, and her energy level is starting to level. She has a strong bonding personality and wants to know/go where I go. She will cuddle, but also likes her independence. She might want you to go outside and play with her, but sometimes she goes by herself and plays by herself (with her bucket).    Other Dogs | Loves to play chase. She is submissive. Great at the dog park - runs like crazy with the other dogs Cats | Unknown -  but her breeding of Retriever and Basenji tend to be hunting dogs Children | Unknown - probably not great with small kids - once they can direct her w/o rough play it's okay.  Training | Suki knows sit, stay, and down, and responds to No and Off.. She has learned Stay, Go Potty, Bone, and Ball. She is incredibly smart. She does not bark to go outside so she is now "bell-trained,"  she will ring the bell with her nose to let you know she wants to go outside. She does not bark to come inside, but she will sit quietly by the door. We are currently working on her leash skills and recall.  If you tell her to "go get your toy" she will. She does climb on furniture. She had no issues jumping into the car and rides with little anxiety. She might get excited when she runs towards you - so we are working on not letting her jump at full speed. She has a tendency to jump up on new people. When she is excited and people pet her, she may try to put her mouth around the wrist - we are working on that, too. All said, she seems to respond to training and consistency. She is food motivated so treat training is going well.  Leash | Suki loves the leash and loves walks. She sits patiently while we put the leash on. She does pull and is highly stimulated with the outside world, but we are working on keeping her close and limiting distractions. She is curious about other dogs and wants to meet them. She has only barked at one or two when the other dog seemed dominant.  Activity Level | Suki has typical energy for a 1 year old dog. She loves to fetch the ball over and over again - any ball. She searches for things to do so she needs to be engaged and assisted with activities. We are providing her with activity toys and that seems to reduce her frustration with playtime. She does crash in the evening around 6:30 PM and will sleep through the night (we wake her up @10:00 pm to go potty - she goes outside and knows exactly where to go after that - to our bed!). She wakes up around 6:00 AM. She sleeps between my husband and I on the bed all night - does not move. Health Notes | Healthy & Happy&Smart Thank you! |  Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age.
