Max is settling In nicely with his foster mom and dad, Susan and Chris. This is what they had to say about Max. Max is a very friendly and active German Shepherd. At 7 years old, he has a very sweet personality and would be great with an active family. He loves his walks and has even started running with his foster dad. He is well behaved indoors (no accidents at all) and doesn’t seem interested in chewing shoes or any other items in the house. Max is like a shadow around the house and in the yard, he loves spending time with people. Chris is working with Max on his leash manners and he has also had the chance to meet some other dogs. Max can get a little exuberant with other dogs, but responds well to direction from his leader and just wants to play. Max has met some younger kids (maybe 5 years old) and was friendly and well behaved with them. He is not cat tested. Part of the reason Max is so well behaved is that he came from a home environment and only ended up in the shelter because his owner passed away. Max would flourish in an active household where he could get some daily exercise. He is a friendly, well-balanced dog and will make a great companion to a lucky family. Max is fully vaccinated and neutered and weighs about 72lbs. She's housebroken, kennel trained, her bedtime is 9:30, leash friendly, loves kids Osa loves to follow follow the resident grandson around or watch him do his school work. She loves to play but when playtime is over she is happy to just relax with her family! She's affectionate and if the opportunity presents itself, she will try to climb on your lap or cover your face with kisses!! She has a big personality in a small package and will need a home with a strong pack leader or she will assume she is in charge. She is currently hanging out with an adult German Shepherd and a Australian Cattle dog mix puppy and holds her own as she doesn’t realize she is not one of the big dogs. YaYa sleeps quietly in her crate at night and is starting to go into her open crate for a snooze during the day. She is also more than willing to snuggle up on your lap. YaYa working on potty training outside but is more consistently using a puppy pad inside. YaYa would love a home with another dog and a strong pack leader. We will be ready to go to our forever homes soon, so we wanted to stop by and say hi here! We came to our foster family just a week back. Bella, our foster dog 🐕 mom, came from Calpaws K9 Rescue too! Our foster mom and her girls have been training us and giving us tons on love. We now know how to sit and even give a “paw” (oh my!) Don’t be mistaken though. We will be naughty puppies for a while. We will also get pretty big when we grow up. We will stop by again as we get more ready. For now, we can use all the love you have 😍 Spanky is the naughtiest of the litter. The smallest but no doubt the mightiest. He has a ton of energy and is always up for some play and exploration. Spanky is also the quickest to learn. He has mastered the sit and paw and is now learning to “down” Spanky is highly food motivated and even “asks” for treats. He always finishes up his food and won’t be small for much longer. We think he might grow up to be 60+ lbs. Buck or Buckie as we call him is the largest in the litter. His eyes will melt your heart. He is literally a bug bear - fluffy and loving. He loves his humans, his belly rubs and relaxing on his back. He is playful, yet calm. He is food motivated and a quick learner. He already knows sit and paw. He is eager to learn so much more. He even goes straight to his crate after playtime! Buckie will be a large dog (70lbs + ) when he grows up. He is already a healthy 15 lbs at 11 weeks. He is growing fast! Alfalfa or Alfie as we call him is an adorable , calm (as calm as a puppy can be!) and fluffy puppy. We call him the escape artist (Houdini ;)) - he is always the first to get out of the playpen and hide under the couch. Alfie loves people and he is quite happy by himself. He will play with his brothers but is also content to relax in a corner. Alfie knows sit and he is learning to give a paw. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older So Tank, aka Joey, came to CalPaws rescue via Santa Cruz. He was injured as a young pup, possibly by a car, and fractured his left front leg. The vet said he's healing well and shouldn't have any problems in the future. However, his leg should be monitored to ensure he's fine. Well, needless to say he wasn't happy and was agressive towards everyone he met after his injury. CalPaws found him a wonderful foster that was a bit overwhelmed with his actions and had to seek a more experienced handler. Since his arrival at his new foster home, Tank has learned basic obedience, both in English and in German. He loves to play with his Kong, ball and chew on his heavy rope. He's great with young kids and loves other dogs, although he can be a bit rough given his age. He entertains himself at times, but prefers rough play to tire himself out. He's still a bit apprehensive of strangers but is doing great when meeting new people that don't show fear around dogs. The greatest part is he thinks he's a lap dog and loves to be on your lap in the evenings to make sure you know he's a part of the family. Mum loves him and he lays by her feet both day and night. He loves to travel, walk and run. Play with his toys and entertain you. He's a bit of a goofball, which comes with a 10 month old GS. Tank would do best with an experienced handler that truly understands the GS breed. Having another dog would help, but not necessary for him to adapt to a new family. Overall, Tank is an amazing 10 mo old GS pup that needs training and love. Please research this breed prior to filling out an application so you are fully informed. She is happy to play with her foster siblings, an adult German Shepherd and pocket sized Chihuahua/lab mix. Pogo takes correction well from both if her play gets a little rough. Pogo consistently goes outside to go potty and is sleeping quietly all night in her crate. She is starting to go into her open crate during the day to take a snooze. Pogo has bursts of puppy energy but then will chill snoozing with her puppy foster sibling or surveying her kingdom from the back of my sofa. She is working on basic commands and walking on a leash. Pogo would love an active family with social dog. She may excel at agility. Like all puppies, she needs continued opportunities for socialization and training. During Ribbies spay surgery she had a blood clot that attached to her spine. This left her knuckling in her rear legs with not much feeling. The blood clot is disintegrating and with time she will make a full recovery. She is a fighter! Everyday we see small changes that prove she is improving! Ribbie loooooooves car rides, and would make a great companion. She needs to go to a home with another resident dog. She loves having a fur buddy. She does great with cats, dogs, new people, and kids. She loves going on walks and does great on a leash. She thinks sprinklers are really fun, and will run around in the grass when on. He is approximately 6-8 month old 40 to 50 lbs Australian Sheepdog mix. He is the happiest most easy going dog that we have fostered. He is always walking around with a big smile on his face! Tedi has had zero training. Currently we have been working on sit, and he is catching on! He is fully house trained. He gets along great with kids and other dogs. He is cat friendly but does tend to bark at the cat, which with proper training he can overcome. Tedi loves being with people and is such a big love ball of hair! He sleeps well in a crate at night. Liam is also very forgiving. Liam came to us after Carrie reached out. One of their former renters moved out from their property and left Liam behind. Carrie asked if we could help. We had him assessed by Lorena and found him to be quite a sweet boy. David has been nice enough to foster him. Liam is very friendly, he is a hugger, he will jump up but he is very gentle and he only weighs about 45lbs. He has fallen in the Fish pond a few times. He has met the cat, the cat did not like him. He is really good with the other dogs in the home. Liam has not been treated well and is learning home life. He is also learning about house training and crate training. Liam will be getting all of his medical completed this week and will be looking for his forever home in the next couple of weeks. He is definitely food motivated an wants to eat what is on your plate. He is learning to sit with treats. He doesn't get on the furniture even when we try to get him up. Oscar is a 2 year old 62 lbs GSD and after a couple weeks in a foster home, he is starting to show us how sweet and playful he can be. But it is clear that Oscar had a very rough life before finding his way into CalPaws. Our vet tells us Oscar should be around 75 lbs. so we are helping him get to a healthy weight. Oscar was timid and scared in the shelter, and would not even come near Debbie or Chris in the outdoor play yard. But we knew he had potential and just needed to develop his confidence outside the shelter. Oscar will need a patient adopter with a tender hand, and once you’ve earned his trust, he will show you how great a dog he is. He walks nicely on the leash, and is uninterested in cats. With other dogs, Oscar likes to keep his space, and would probably be best as an only-dog, but he could also live with another dog that was smaller and mellow. Since the girls are away from mama and the rest of the pack it is important to make sure the girls are well socialized. They are currently in a savvy foster home with other dogs and where Lorena has already started on the basic is training. It is never too early to train when dealing with a smart breed. Ideally Thelma and Louise will end up in homes with other dogs to help with them becoming well rounded dogs. Calvin wants to be where the adult humans are. He is completely fine with the kids but doesn't pay them much attention. He loves to give kisses and licks and come over for pets. Ear scratches are great. Takes treats very softly. Uses doggy door, potty trained. He sleeps in the kennel, but he doesn't really like it much. Calvin loves to play with resident Lilly, and pretty much ignores the boy dogs. They ignore him too. He has not counter surfed at all, has not gotten into the garbage. Calvin walks well on the leash and slightly behind you. Very submissive on a leash. He doesn't bark on walks. Calvin has the same moans and sounds that Lilly does. Not toy driven at all. Will chew on a bone but that's about it. \ He is definitely food motivated an wants to eat what is on your plate. He is learning to sit with treats.
