Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older This is Moby! This is what his fosters have to say about him. He’s a 14 month old German Shepherd Malamute mix. Moby has had a challenging beginning to his young life. He came to us after he was repeatedly found running in the streets. He was co-owned by a homeless couple. One could no longer located in the area, and the other finally decided she could not take care of him any longer. Though it has been hard for Moby, it hasn’t slowed his zest for life or love of cuddles one bit! Moby is a fun loving and energetic dude. He loves playing games, learning new tricks, and going on adventures. Moby is extremely friendly towards people. He does not resource guard with humans or with other dogs. He’s a fabulous running partner, is sensitive towards corrections, and learns very quickly. He’s currently living in a home with another dog around his age and a cat. He gets along well with his pup friend and would play all day long if the other pup could keep up. Moby can sometimes struggle with boundaries with humans and animal friends. He’s learning though! If he is going to a home that will have other animals, he will need good supervision and consistent boundaries to make sure he continues to develop into a well-behaved dog. He also does well with the cat, though the cat is a strong advocate for himself and isn’t afraid to tell him no. Moby would not be good in a home with cats who run away from him. Moby has been diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia in one of his back hips. He had x-rays completed to ensure an accurate diagnosis. Moby has no symptoms of his dysplasia, and he is extremely athletic. Because his dysplasia is not severe, and because he does not exhibit symptoms at his age, the vet believes he may be symptom-free for most of his life. The vet recommendation is to provide him with daily glucosamine and plenty of exercise to ensure he stays healthy and does not gain weight. Moby’s ideal owner(s) would have experience owning dogs before. Moby is a big and beautiful boy at about 85 pounds and would do well with someone who can provide him with consistent and daily exercise. He absolutely loves going on adventures and is a fabulous trail companion. We would hope that Moby’s owners would take him on many an adventure. It’ll also be important that Moby’s owners love giving plenty of scratches and cuddles, because that’s all this big guy wants at the end of the day. Moby is currently learning basic commands, such as “heel”, “off”, “down”, “come”, and “leave it.” He’s adjusted to using an e-collar and a prong collar very well. He is also working on crate training and this is going well. He’s extremely eager to please and just wants to be your best bud. Moby is being fostered in San Jose, Ca. She is really trying with her potty training, but still has accidents here and there. She loves to cuddle with her foster family and does really well with children. She is cat workable. Being a puppy she still barks at the cat and this can be trained out of her, her foster family is already working on it! She gets along great with other dogs! This is a courtesy posting for Santa Cruz Shelter. We have another guy we are looking to place. His name is Darwin. He is a mix of sorts. He is listed as a black mouth curr, but looks quite sheperdy. We transferred him in from Monterey County Animal Shelter. He had been with them 10 days, prior to us pulling him. They had deemed him unadoptable because of his stress level in the shelter. He is amazing with other dogs, and absolutely loves people. We can’t currently get any video of him with other dogs, but I believe there is some on facebook somewhere that I will try and track down. We think that he is super understimulated while in the shelter environment. He does not kennel well, so we have been keeping him in our office as much as possible. He can be mouthy when he is playing, but no pressure at all. If you start petting him, he just melts into you. Loves hugs. You can do just about anything to him. He pulled a piece of plastic off my desk (he’s a counter surfer) and I just opened his mouth and reached my hand in and pulled it out and he could have cared less. He will sit for treats and takes them ever so gently 😊 When left alone he doesn’t whine or bark, but does counter surf, and we’ve only hear him bark a couple of times. Over all, he is an awesome dog, but is not going to do well in the kennel environment. We have been looking for a foster for him, but that has been difficult as well. He is neutered, which we did on Monday. Yesterday he had to be sedated and have the incision repaired, since he was so active in his kennel it opened up ☹ We would really love to find this boy a place, in a foster home. Please contact Santa Cruz Shelter for more details. show less

Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Meet Miss Whitney. She is a 8 month old Ibizan Hound and Border Collie mix. She LOVES to zoom around the yard playing with the resident German Shepherd and is learning the cues when another dog is done playing. She will happily sit with you and give puppy kisses. Whitney will go by the door if she needs out but doesn’t necessarily bark. She sleeps nicely in her crate all night. Whitney is settling in to her foster home and slowly learning not everything is scary. She is a smart girl and is quickly picking up basic commands. Like all puppies her age she will need continued training and socialization. Are you looking for an active but sweet girl? Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Welcome Raven to the pack. Raven is a 4 month old Husky/Pitt mix. Raven is a friendly, people focused puppy who is a fast learner with a lot of puppy energy. Her short hair means she doesn’t shed much and she’s very cuddly and loves nothing better than sleeping on your lap. But because of her husky background, she loves being active and has a lot of energy that needs to be focused. She’s great with other dogs and often sleeps on her foster brothers back. She loves playing rough with the other dogs and can hold her own even with a big dog. She’s just learning to walk on a leash because her immunizations were just finalized, but she’s fully potty trained as long as she has access to the outdoors and is used to going out with the other dogs at regular intervals. She loves to chew and is very good about chewing on dog toys as long as she has them. She’s going to make someone a wonderful pet although she does tend to like one person in particular. Raven weighs approximately 25lbs and would do best in a home with kids over the age of five. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Riley came to CalPaws K9 Rescue and was put with a foster as a young un-socialized scared pup who had issues with fear, aggression towards other dogs while on leash as well as food aggression issues. Now, with a firm but loving hand and training, she is now leash trained, and no longer shows agression while on leash. Still working on the food aggression, but she is considerably better than before. Riley loves playing with ALL her toys and also likes to play ball. Riley doesn't seem to be afraid of water (she loves Point Isabel). Riley is crate/ kennel trained and if you leave the door open she will put herself in her crate (or any crate) when she wants a break. Riley is potty trained and will tell/slow you when she has to go. She is a loving playful pup that would do well in a family that is familiar with Shepherd mix breeds and that can have a strong and firm, but loving hand to give her guidance. Due to her playfulness and her age, her foster mommy believes she would thrive better in a home either without children or older children. Riley is a pup and is playful and will still nip occasionally nip. Riley does currently live with her foster mommy's pup so a family with another dog is ok as long as the dog is good with a young playful pup and there may be some rough housing and or dominance that may occur. Riley has not been around any cats so she is untested if living with them is a option. Riley is approximately 50lbs and is fully vetted. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Shadow is a gorgeous, high energy, one year old all black 62 lbs German Shepherd. She loves to snuggle and wants all of the attention and love from her people. She is very sweet and playful and gets along very well with the three other German Shepherds at her foster home. She is well behaved with the human children, though Shadow is still learning that the human toys aren’t hers to play with! Because of her strong herding instincts, Shadow would probably do best in a home with children over 5. She has not been tested with cats, but shows a lot of interest in small animals, so a home without cats would probably be best for this girl. She loves to run and play and to snuggle up next to the couch with her foster mom and dad. Shadow would thrive in an active home and with a handler that is familiar with working breed dogs, preferably with at least one other large dog in the home to help build her confidence. She isn’t food possessive, but doesn’t like to share her toys with her foster dog siblings. Shadow responds very well to correction from her humans. She knows ‘come’ ‘sit’, ‘down’, and ‘leave it’. She is extremely smart and eager to please, and adores attention and ear rubs. She is happiest when she can be snuggled up with her humans. Shadow is crate trained, potty trained, and walks well on a leash with a prong collar, but like most working breed dogs, she would benefit from consistency with her boundaries and continued training. Shadow’s foster mom thinks she is the sweetest girl ever and will make an amazing addition to a loving family. You can view videos of Shadow on calpaws.org/available-dogs. She is a 4 month old Pointer Shepherd mix  (some of her siblings are  Catahoula Leopard mixes). We suspect when fully grown she will be around 60lb. She is a very sweet girl. She loves to curl up on the couch with her foster parents and give lots of love. She loves to be a part of the family and follows her foster mom everywhere! She is still learning where to use the bathroom and is making great progress. Since she came to us off the streets of Stockton she has had little socializing with people and this will be something that will need to be continually worked on to build her confidence with new humans. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Say hello to Willow! Willow is a young Shepherd mix who came into the rescue very skittish and shut down, along with her brother, River, and she has since done a complete 180. Her foster mom says Willow is one of the sweetest, silliest pups she’s ever met. Although she is not very large (around 45 lbs), Willow is full of of personality and love. She is a huge cuddle bug and her ideal place is snuggled up right next to her person. She loves kids, and does very well with the 3 and 10 year old in her foster home. Willow plays very well with other dogs and has a lot of energy to burn, but also has a high prey drive so no cats or small animals for this girl. Willow would love another dog sibling as a playmate in her new home. She walks well on a leash with a prong collar, and is doing well with her basic obedience training. Willow is house trained. She will need continuity and consistency with her training post placement, and will do best in an active home that will have the time and availability to give her the love and attention she needs. We believe Willow is approximately 1 year old. Willow and River were brought into the shelter after their owner died.
