Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 2-6yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Meet Kylo! Kylo is a one-year old Shepherd mix. He is around 90 lbs of furry love and is very sweet and gentle. He loves to play all day long with the three other German Shepherds at his foster home, and is very food and treat motivated. He is the gentlest boy when he takes treats from his foster family and loves playing with children. He does get very excited, though, and doesn’t know how big he is so children over 5 would be ideal for him so he doesn’t accidentally knock them over! He loves to run and play and to snuggle up on the couch with his foster mom and dad. Kylo would do well in an active home with another dog to play with and a handler that is familiar with working breed dogs. He isn’t food or toy possessive, but he does like to try to steal his foster dog siblings’ food if no one is watching! 😉 Kylo responds very well to correction from his humans. He knows ‘come’ ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘leave it’, and ‘shake’. Kylo is working on crate training in his foster home, is super eager to please, and adores attention and belly rubs. He is potty trained and walks well on a leash with a prong collar, but like most working breed dogs, Kylo would benefit from consistency and continued training. No small animals (cats, small dogs, etc.) for this boy as he has a very strong prey drive. Kylo’s foster mom says he is the absolute sweetest boy and thinks he will make an amazing companion for his Fur-ever family! if you are interested in adopting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 2-6yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Mac, who came to us as Neil, is a bright and energetic male Terrier mix. For unknown reasons he received a fractured right rear femur that wasn’t properly treated after the injury. This caused the leg to create it’s own pocket and his leg is 1 inch shorter than the left. He was seen by a specialist Orthopedic Veterinarian who examined all of the X-rays and observed his gait while walking, running and jumping. The Dr was against any surgery, stating he is not in pain and will live a normal life as is. The first day we met Mac, he was very apprehensive about male interaction, but he settled down within the hour. The next day he took to me like lifelong friends. All he needed was love and attention! He was excited about Maya, my rescue shepherd, and they got along from the start. Mac is good with young children and females, but still apprehensive of males, especially larger ones. In spite of his apprehension, he calms down quickly once he feels safe. He is house broken and crate trained, where he feels safest at night. His obedience is a training in progress and improving. Mac does jump to get attention and will stop once told. He loves to play and enjoys the lapdog treatment which he makes sure you’re aware of. Once there he is gentle and loving. Poor Mac just needs someone to love him. Mac would be a perfect fit for a family with kids and a larger dog as a playmate that can devote time and effort to provide the attention he needs. Maggie is  dog and cat friendly, she’s a sweet girl and a good listener. She uses the doggy door to potty and hasn’t once had an accident in the house. She’s kind and gentle, but can also be protective if she thinks her person is in danger.  She is about 62 lbs.   She does need structure and guidance on the people she can trust. She previously came from an abusive home and leans more toward females, but can adjust to males easily with a slow and steady flow of affection and treats from the males in the home.    She knows basic commands like sit and she comes when called. She’s a good girl and has a lot of love to give.   if you are interested in adopting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 2-6yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Micky is an AKC registered, pure bred 80 lbs German Shepherd with a search and rescue lineage. He has a gentle and loyal disposition. Due to living inside a home with an elderly couple since the age of three months, he has not had consistent opportunities to indulge his naturally curious and physically active disposition. At the age of eight he has the energy and drive of a three year old - mature, active, curious, and always excited to explore. Micky loves long hikes and car rides. He has not had many social interactions and vigorously barks at strangers but has never shown any physical aggression, only bluff with greeting and tail wags accompanying those deep and resonant barks. He lives collegially with a cat but they do occasionally chase each other. Children scare Micky and make him skittish, and he doesn’t tolerate puppy energy. He is good with mature dogs and loves to romp and run with them. Micky would be great for an active person or couple who can devote time and effort in developing a trusting bond. With a consistent outlet for his energies and a loving home, you will have the most loving pooch and great companion. Molly is fairly new to the rescue. We found out about Molly about two weeks ago. Molly’s owner died last month and her husband wanted her dogs gone. Molly is currently adjusting to her new foster home and pack life. She has lived most of her life outside down in the Central Valley. She knows very few skills, so she is learning to decompress, learn the other dogs, about being inside and a few basic skills. Molly is good with cats and she is doing great with her fur foster siblings. She is older and she has seen the world of abuse. She is house trained and very smart. Molly does cower when she is petted, but once she realizes it is only love she is getting, she quickly wants more. We would describe her as starved for love and affection. Molly is approximately 5-6 years old, she is gentle with people and would do well in a quiet household, but a family that likes to hike or walk. Maggie likes going in the car and going places. She is quite lovely. Molly loves her treats and is very motivated over treats...less over the food given to her. 😉 She is petite, weighing only about 50lbs, but she is healthy and agile. We believe she is mostly shepherd, but she could have some husky in her. if you are interested in Molly, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 2-6yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Otto is a large male German Shepherd mix who is about 2 to 3 years old. He was picked up by animal control along with 2 other German Shepherds. Their owner was identified but did not pay the fine and the dogs stayed at the shelter. Otto was at the shelter for a full month. During that time he was fearful and did not want to be leashed or moved in and out of the kennel runs. We became aware of his plight and he came into our rescue on Dec. 17th. Originally Otto was very nervous in his new surroundings but he quickly settled into his foster home. Otto is a very affectionate dog who enjoys going on leash walks or just hanging out in the yard watching the world go by. He is house trained and uses a dog door. He sleeps free at night without needing to go out. Otto weighs about 80 pounds and needs to put on weight. He is generally good in the house, but may re-arrange shoes or items of clothing when left to his own devices. Otto can best be described as a sensitive dog with limited exposure to the world outside of his yard. He is cautious when meeting new people. After being introduced to women and children he generally relaxes, but he can be fearful of men. Slow introductions are needed. Otto is slow to learn new things and patience is required in training. Since coming to rescue he learned to jump into the back of a pickup truck and rides quietly. He now likes playing with stuffed toys and enjoys stealing them from his foster brother. When wearing a prong collar he does okay on leash walks. He doesn’t know any commands and we are starting on basic obedience. Otto is living with an adult male German Shepherd. He takes direction from the older dog and after two weeks they started to play. He happily joins his foster brother in patrolling the yard to keep the world safe from squirrels. We have seen a great deal of improvement in Otto’s demeanor over a short time. He is learning to come when called (instead of running away) and is starting to understand that the world is not such a scary place. As he becomes more confident in his surroundings we are starting to see some puppy-like behaviors. At times he can be rowdy and mouthy. Otto’s ideal home will be one where his new family has previous experience working with a large untrained dog. He needs a home where his people have time to work with him, to get him out in the world to gain experience. He will do best in a home where his people are around more than they are gone. He needs a yard with strong fences. Patience and training will be needed to help him get over the years where he was allowed to make up his own rules. He is experienced with living with large dogs and most likely would like a dog friend. Otto should not go to a home with small animals. Because of his size and lack of training he will be best matched in a home without small children. He is living at a foster home on the peninsula. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. Hi, I'm Pappas. I am originally from Woodlake, California, and I'm a 16 months, 80 lbs half Shepherd, and half Doberman. My hobbies include chasing and catching tennis balls, but not necessarily bringing them back ("what's mine is mine" is my motto), chewing on old tennis shoes, and chasing my tail. I used to live in a small apartment. I was left alone for 8 hours or more for most of my life, I've become adept at entertaining myself. My interests include being petted, having my ears scratched, and long walks on the sidewalk. I'm very big for my age, but kids love me. I'm looking for a committed long-term relationship with someone who's into big, energetic, loveable, puppies who wil eventually become a great companion and protector. Fun fact: The celebrity I'm told I look like most is Scooby-Doo. Btw ladies, heads up, I'm "fixed" ! if you are interested in adopting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Shady is a petite female German Shepherd who is about 2 years old. She was found by a good Samaritan who established ownership and then surrendered to rescue. She spent a lot of her young life living out in the yard. She recently moved into a 2nd foster home and these are early observations by her foster mom. Shady is house trained and uses a dog door to go out to relieve herself. She rides well crated in a truck and does not get sick when traveling over mountain roads. She is started on crate training, she eats her meals in the crate, and she is doing well with that. She does not resource guard her food or toys and has a soft mouth for taking treats. She is started on basic obedience training. She knows sit and has good recall.  Shady sleeps free as night on a dog bed and is quiet throughout the night. As with most rescue dogs she has a few things to work on. She will jump to greet a person and she will get on furniture. She will pull on leash walks. Shady is very friendly with all people. When first meeting a stranger she can be a bit reserved, but she quickly warms up. She lived with a teenager in her first foster home and was good with her.  Shady loves other dogs. She is not reactive when she sees a new dog and is eager to meet them. She’s been in two foster homes and did well with female and male German Shepherds. She has a rough and tumble play style. We are looking for a home for Shady that has prior experience raising a German Shepherd or other working breed dog. She is so dog social that homes with a resident dog are preferred. Resident dogs should be comfortable with a rough and tumble play style. Although she is fine with children, due to jumping we do not recommend a home with toddlers. She has demonstrated that she will chase a cat and so cannot go to a home with kitties. Shady is living at a foster home with two resident male German Shepherds in La Honda. if you are interested in Shady, please review our adoption process and then  fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting-1.  Experience with GSD training is preferred.
