He does well with other dogs but definitely likes to show his dominant side to other male dogs so may be better with female large breed dogs. He is a very calm well behaved boy & loves to give hugs. Has a playful puppy side once you get him going. He likes to velcro himself to someone but still loves to be loved on by everyone. He does great with kids & dogs of any size Experienced adopters only please. Please research this breed prior to filling out an application so you are fully informed. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older So Tank, aka Joey, came to CalPaws rescue via Santa Cruz. He was injured as a young pup, possibly by a car, and fractured his left front leg. The vet said he's healing well and shouldn't have any problems in the future.  However,  his leg should be monitored  to ensure he's fine. Well, needless to say he wasn't happy and was agressive towards everyone he met after his injury. CalPaws found him a wonderful foster that was a bit overwhelmed with his actions and had to seek a more experienced handler. Since his arrival at his new foster home, Tank has learned basic obedience, both in English and in German.  He loves to play with his Kong, ball and chew on his heavy rope. He's great with young kids and loves other dogs,  although he can be a bit rough given his age. He entertains himself at times, but prefers rough play to tire himself out. He's still a bit apprehensive of strangers but is doing great when meeting new people that don't show fear around dogs. The greatest part is he thinks he's a lap dog and loves to be on your lap in the evenings to make sure you know he's a part of the family. Mum loves him and he lays by her feet both day and night. He loves to travel, walk and run. Play with his toys and entertain you.  He's a bit of a goofball, which comes with a 10 month old GS. Tank would do best with an experienced handler that truly understands the GS breed. Having another dog would help, but not necessary for him to adapt to a new family. Overall, Tank is an amazing 10 mo old GS pup that needs training and love. Please research this breed prior to filling out an application so you are fully informed. Koakoa’s puppies are officially 6 weeks old, which means we are starting to accept applications for the 6 puppies. We have 4 females and 2 males. We always hope to find the best homes for our puppies. With Covid, we have to take extra precautions to make sure our puppies go to homes where a commitment to the dog is furever!! We do like homes with puppy experience...understanding house training, training in general. Being open to crate training. We also like it when another dog is in the home or that the adopter is going to well socialize the dogs with people, other dogs and perhaps even cats. Koakoa’s puppies have been exposed to another dog and cats. Koakoa has also taken motherhood seriously and she has been very protective of her babies. They have started with the right foundation and our job is to ensure that foundation continues after they are formally adopted. She is happy to play with her foster siblings, an adult German Shepherd and pocket sized Chihuahua/lab mix. Pogo takes correction well from both if her play gets a little rough. Pogo consistently goes outside to go potty and is sleeping quietly all night in her crate. She is starting to go into her open crate during the day to take a snooze. Pogo has bursts of puppy energy but then will chill snoozing with her puppy foster sibling or surveying her kingdom from the back of my sofa. She is working on basic commands and walking on a leash. Ribbie is a good all around dog. In her past she was used for breeding purposes. She did not receive any love from humans. She has scars and broken ribs to prove this. But like scars and broken ribs she has healed her soul. And has so much love to give. She is by far the sweetest dog we have ever fostered. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. Meet Ribbie! Ribbie is a good all around dog. In her past she was used for breeding purposes. She did not receive any love from humans. She has scars and broken ribs to prove this. But like scars and broken ribs she has healed her soul. And has so much love to give. She is by far the sweetest dog we have ever fostered. During Ribbies spay surgery she had a blood clot that attached to her spine. This left her knuckling in her rear legs with not much feeling. The blood clot is disintegrating and with time she will make a full recovery. She is a fighter! Everyday we see small changes that prove she is improving! Ribbie loooooooves car rides, and would make a great companion. She needs to go to a home with another resident dog. She loves having a fur buddy. She does great with cats, dogs, new people, and kids. She loves going on walks and does great on a leash. She thinks sprinklers are really fun, and will run around in the grass when on. It’s actually very ridiculous to watch! She is 80 lbs 4 years old. More pictures might be available on https://www.calpaws.org/available-dogs at a later time. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older 2 weeks ago, Oscar and his brother, Calvin, were pulled out of SASA by CalPaws volunteers Debbie Kopilow and Chris Delgado. Oscar is a 2 year old 62 lbs GSD and after a couple weeks in a foster home, he is starting to show us how sweet and playful he can be. But it is clear that Oscar had a very rough life before finding his way into CalPaws. Our vet tells us Oscar should be around 75 lbs. so we are helping him get to a healthy weight. Oscar was timid and scared in the shelter, and would not even come near Debbie or Chris in the outdoor play yard. But we knew he had potential and just needed to develop his confidence outside the shelter. Oscar will need a patient adopter with a tender hand, and once you’ve earned his trust, he will show you how great a dog he is. He walks nicely on the leash, and is uninterested in cats. With other dogs, Oscar likes to keep his space, and would probably be best as an only-dog, but he could also live with another dog that was smaller and mellow. Oscar’s foster loves the progress he has made and knows he will make someone a great pet. Please research this breed prior to filling out an application so you are fully informed. Ear scratches are great. Takes treats very softly. Uses doggy door, potty trained. He sleeps in the kennel, but he doesn't really like it much. Calvin loves to play with resident Lilly, and pretty much ignores the boy dogs. They ignore him too. He has not counter surfed at all, has not gotten into the garbage. Calvin walks well on the leash and slightly behind you. Very submissive on a leash. He doesn't bark on walks. Calvin has the same moans and sounds that Lilly does. Not toy driven at all. Will chew on a bone but that's about it. \ He is definitely food motivated an wants to eat what is on your plate. He is learning to sit with treats. He doesn't get on the furniture even when we try to get him up. He likes to sleep with his head propped up. Please research this breed prior to filling out an application so you are fully informed. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Say hello to Blaze! Blaze is a handsome 10 month old Belgian Malinois. He is extremely good natured, and does very well with his 3 German Shepherd foster siblings. He also does great with the four year old and ten year old children in his foster home, though a home with older children will be ideal for him since he moves so quickly he tends to knock smaller children over and will chase them if they run. Blaze is very silly and sweet and loves to cuddle, but is also extremely intelligent and will need a Malinois- savvy home that can keep him mentally stimulated as well as implement training and exercise regimens that are so important for this breed. Blaze is already excelling at his basic obedience training and walks beautifully on a leash with a prong collar. He does have some separation anxiety, which can be worked through with proper training. He is extremely affectionate and eager to please. Blaze would do best in a home with another similar sized dog as a playmate, but no small dogs or animals for this boy. He is a typical Mal with very high prey drive.  Please research this breed prior to filling out an application so you are fully informed, this is not a family dog.  Mals are more demanding than the average German Shepherd and very high maintenance. Please only apply if you have extensive Malinois or similar working dog experience and have a resident dog. It has been a few days since we pulled Libby, formerly known as Belle and Billy, the little black dog from the Fresno Animal Shelter. Billy is about 8 months old and 40 lbs. She is a lab mix and based upon her blue tongue we think she might be part chow. She is not large and doubt that she will grow too much. She is learning about sharing her food, sharing her toys. Billy is also learning about a crate. She will whimper when she is first in her crate but she will settle down and sleep the entire night. Billy has lots of kisses and she is super affectionate. We will also be working on her spay appointment. More later as we get to know her better. Please research this breed prior to filling out an application so you are fully informed. She is a Red Catahoula mix. Willa will need to go to a home with a confident dog. She still has a hard time walking up to her foster humans, but with cheese she will slowly come up to them. Her foster family is very confident she was not treated nice by humans whatsoever. She also spent about 6 months on the Stockton streets scavenging for food for herself and for her 8 puppies. Haze is learning how to walk on a leash and is getting used to using his harness.  Haze loves food and will counter surf and beg if left to his own devices.  We are working on his manners and soothing his separation anxiety.  Haze will need to be with a family where they are extremely diligent that he does not get out the front door and has a secure fenced yard, as he is an escape artist who loves being chased.  He also needs ongoing training and to be in a family where people are home to spend time with him.  Haze is good with people and other dogs. Arlo is a High energy Malinois. He is super friendly and still thinks he is a lap dog but his size says otherwise. Arlo does great with other dogs and loves to be around his people. He is still learning to walk in a leash. He hasn’t had much training, but does know sit, down, and no. He loves to play tug and is strong enough to pull you over. Adoption fees: $450 for dogs 12 months/younger, $400 for dogs 1-2 Yrs, $350 for dogs 3-5yrs, and $300 for 6yrs and older Harley is a five year old Shepherd mix. She is prettier in person and is really sweet. Harley was surrendered to us after she and the other female shepherd in the home would fight. Her former owner was devastated by having to let her go. Harley came to him as a abused dog, you can tell when you first meet her that she is unsure if you will be someone who hurts her or not. Sad that she still remembers the abuse from her early years. Harley was found tied to a tree with a rope in the middle of an orchard. Harley has only been an outdoor dog, she still has a slight odor of skunk. We are working on getting the slight stink out. Since Harley has been in her new foster home she has been good with her fur foster siblings. She does get possessive but with simple, firm correction she is learning the boundaries in the home. Harley is house trained. She knows sit and stay but she has to relax first before she will listen. Harley is sweet and loving. She wants to be near her people and she will lay down quietly. Harley also walks nicely on leash. Looking forward to Harley being in a home where she will loved and cherished. I would say a home with older kids for Harley, she is nervous when she meets new people and you can tell she is unsure.
