We are not a shelter and do not have a facility. All our dogs are in foster homes. Hey everyone! I'm Moose. I'm 12-18 months old, and I've been living with my foster family in Lake Tahoe for the last two weeks. I'm full of love, quick to cuddle and like going on adventures. I'm good with dogs - especially big dogs like the two I've been living with - but I'm still learning how to be gentle with small dogs. I haven't been around a cat yet. I will need crate training and obedience training, but I've been receptive to training so far. I already learned "sit" and "down"! My ideal home would be with someone who works from home, or a house that has people around most of the day, and has another dog that I can play with. I have been left a lot in my life so I really like being with my people and pleasing them. If you think you might be them please reach out to my people here at calpaws! If you are interested in meeting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Experience with obedience training is definitely required. We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. We are always in need of experienced fosters for the amount of dogs we have coming in. Being a foster is such a rewarding experience. Meet Radar, a 10 month old Belgian Malanois. This boy loves to cuddle and be by your side. Radar was rescued from a compacted shelter where he stayed in a small kennel for over a month. On his first day at his foster home he was a bit shy but showed that he was grateful to be there. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. We are not a shelter and do not have a facility. All our dogs are in foster homes. Meet Radar, a 10 month old Belgian Malanois. This boy loves to cuddle and be by your side. Radar was rescued from a compacted shelter where he stayed in a small kennel for over a month. On his first day at his foster home he was a bit shy but showed that he was grateful to be there. He loves people and children and wants to be with them all the time. Radar instantly greeted and played with the 5 dogs at the home. He showed interest in the livestock and showed his inquisitiveness with new things. Within two days of coming to his foster home he was walked in the Livermore Christmas Parade. He handled the lights, sounds, and people like he’d done it a million times. There is definitely something special about this boy. Even though Radar is a complete love bug, he is still true to his breed. When he is determined nothing can stop him, like being in a crate when the other dogs are loose. He is strong and athletic. He is house trained and has been spending his days outside with the other dogs and livestock but enjoys sleeping on his cozy bed inside the house at night. Radar would be best in a home with no small children as he can mock them over. He does great with his foster kids (10 and 12 years old). Cats are not recommended, but have not been tested. Please research this breed before filling out an application. This is not a beginners dog. We know Apollo is at least 6 years old and he has not had an easy life. He was surrendered to the Oakland shelter. Little was shared about his background. We know he lived much of his life is a back yard or a crate. His front leg is slightly deformed and X-rays shows an untreated break. His font K9 teeth no longer exist and are nubs in his gums. The rest of the teeth have received no care.  Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We know he lived much of his life is a back yard or a crate. His front leg is slightly deformed and X-rays shows an untreated break. His font K9 teeth no longer exist and are nubs in his gums. The rest of the teeth have received no care.  Apollo is very loyal, he can be picky about who he trusts and he is wary of strangers. Apollo is a true rescue. He has been abused and needs a home where that is understood. When he trusts he is amazing. He is funny, sweet, playful, but he needs to be handled in a specific way.  Apollo is fully vaccinated and neutered. He does have a trainer that comes with him for integrating him into a new household. Apollo is attached to his current foster and the resident dog so we know with the change he will need some help with the transition.  Apollo loves to go on walks, he loves playing fetch and will gladly play for hours.  Apollo is looking for a person(s) who understand his past and are kind and patience with him. He is active, and is willing to please. He is a good dog and has formed an amazing bond with his foster mom. He does have some arthritis and receives medication to help with his bad leg.  Apollo is dog friendly with a proper introduction. He is a good dog, just needing a chance to show his wonderful personality. The perfect family to adopt of foster would be experienced with abused dogs. Will understand that he needs a bit of time to acclimate, but the rescue and his trainer will help with getting a routine and getting him acclimated with his new home. His current foster would love to keep him, but since she is moving to Italy she is unable to keep him, unless someone would be willing to do a long term foster.  If you are interested in meeting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. My name is Chicken Little.  I am about a year old.  When I was found I was starving, just skin and bones, and had several injuries to my face.  Since I was rescued I have learned I don't need to eat all my food, and that I am safe and protected.  I get along well with other dogs, and even cats, and love to jump in your lap and cuddle.  I have learned to go to the bathroom outside, what is ok to chewcon and what is not, and when told to "go to bed" I willingly go to my crate on command.  I am extremely lovable and energetic, and hope to go to a home where I have friends and toys to play with. Koakoa is cuddly, loyal, and protective. She can be stubborn, but is treat motivated. She’s loving, always seeking hugs and pets, and especially enjoys curling up next to you for naps. She’s not high maintenance or high energy, and has a very even temperament. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. We are not a shelter and do not have a facility. All our dogs are in foster homes. Please follow Calpaws K9 rescue on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CalpawsK9Rescue) for updates on our dogs. This is Koakoa, she is a very special Calpaws girl. About 8 months ago Koakoa was running loose in Oakland. For an entire month Koakoa evaded capture. In fact we ended up having to trap Koakoa in order to get her to safety. We completed the stray hold with Oakland Animal Control and during the wait period we determined Koakoa was pregnant. So weeks later, Koakoa gave birth to six beautiful puppies. We committed to Koakoa and her babies and found all the babies wonderful homes. We believed Koakoa was going to be adopted by the person who originally found her and he was advocating for her. So months later, it was determined the resident dog was not ok with having Koakoa stay so we moved her to another foster home. So Koakoa is now looking for her forever home. Koakoa is good with people and with dogs that are dog friendly. Koakoa is a chow mix. She is fiercely loyal and the last movement was very hard because she was so attached to her foster. So we are looking to get her moved to her forever home ASAP since she attaches herself and the change can be stressful for her. Koakoa is a medium sized dog, she is fully vaccinated, chipped and spayed. She loves to go on walks and looking out the front window to see who is passing by. Koakoa is crate trained and is very smart and she does speak to you, telling you what she wants. We love our mama’s and want for Koakoa to find an amazing home If you are interested in meeting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Lola had a rough start but seems to be thriving as a family dog! She LOVES kids. Their pets just make her day. Meet Lola! Lola had a rough start but seems to be thriving as a family dog! She LOVES kids. Their pets just make her day. She minds her business around other dogs but may prefer to be an only dog or have an older dog companion. She currently coexists with 2 other German shepherds a chihuahua and 2 cats. If the cats run she WILL chase! Lola is potty trained given the chance to go out regularly. She loves to take walks and travel to soccer/sports games. In just a couple short months she’s transformed from a young mommy, strictly an outside garage dog, having never gone anywhere or been on a leash to a happy family girl who loves to go places, sleep with her foster family inside and cuddle on the couch in the evening. Her house manners have proven to be pretty amazing so far and she’s never far from her foster mamas feet. Under the desk sleeping while she works, laying at her feet in the kitchen while she cooks or ready to head outside for a car ride or walk at a moments notice. She’s up for anything with her people. She’s gentle, kind, corrects easily when she misbehaves (very sensitive), sits and comes on command and such a lover. Please research this breed before filling out an application. He loves people and having a family that would practice working the skills he has already been taught. He would make a wonderful addition to a family. He is very handsome! We are excited to say that Simba is ready to find a forever home. What is exciting about this opportunity is the academy will work with the potential adopters, teaching them amazing skills. The opportunity to train before bringing  Simba home, during the process and as much training needed after going home. The best part of Calpaws has financed the training in order to give  Simba some excellent skills and enable him to be adopted by amazing people. We have done this before with several of our dogs with excellent results. It is a big commitment as well as finand we appreciate the adopters who see the value of the training and continue to use the resource. Please research this breed before filling out an application. Say hello to Arrow!  He is a four month old Belgian Malinois puppy and is an utter delight! He is in a foster home with two children and four other dogs and he gets along splendidly with all of them. He is very sweet and affectionate and LOVES to play with his foster fur siblings, so he would do best in a home with another similar-energy dog to play with. Arrow is extremely intelligent and eager to please, which is typical of his breed. He will need lots of exercise and mental stimulation, as well as an owner experienced with Malinois or similar breed dogs. He can also be mouthy but is easily corrected. He LOVES to snuggle and gets so excited to see his people that he wags with his entire body instead of just his tail. Arrow’s foster family say he is a total sweetheart and has been a joy to have in their home. Please research this breed before filling out an application. This is not a beginners dog. I am Cali I am a 10 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix that was hit by a car and brought in to Stockton animal services as a stray. After seeing orthopedics and learning my pelvis was broken I have had treatments and lots of kennel rest and I am doing much better. I am ready for my forever home. I am the sweetest, most gentle, tolerant pup ever. I have been living at a foster home with a 4-year-old energetic boy, an older cat, Grandma, and my Foster Mom who works from home. It’s been nice keeping her company, I enjoy taking naps while my foster mom works but I get excited when my hooman brother comes home from school! We both get in trouble sometimes tho because we like to chase each other now that I’m feeling better… oh and talk about chasing, you know what I really want to chase? Are those squirrels in the backyard, they drive me nuts!!! The cat doesn’t really like me, she thinks I’m scared but all I want to do is just sniff her. I learned the hard way to leave her alone though. I’m learning to go on walks now and explore without barking at other dogs or people. I have been on kennel rest for 2 months, so everything seems exciting and new to me. Although I look tough, I’m very submissive so I need guidance and a strong leader. I’m also very smart and learn quick.  But most of all, I just want to love everyone and be loved ! Please research this breed before filling out an application. This is not a beginners dog. Meet Duke! He’s a gentle soul who wants to please and be loved in return. If Duke has a mean bone in his body, he hasn’t shown it to us. His foster household has three resident dogs of different sizes and temperaments and he get along with them all. He takes signals from other dogs well (really seems to enjoy another dog’s company). Good with cats, kids, lil dogs who run the household, and just wants to love and receive snuggles.  Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. Jack LOVES his foster fur siblings and the local dogs in the neighborhood. He’s a cuddle bug that likes to be with his people. Jack is going to be a big big boy! He’s going to need fur siblings to play with and a big yard to run and play in. In the mornings he tends to act like a teen who doesn’t want to get up for school , foster mom has to turn the lights on pull the blankets off and give him a treat to get him to go outside and still gives her the “mom 5 more minutes look”. Jack would do well with children of all ages since he’s can have a sweet but lazy complex. He has been with cats and had no issues as well. Jack’s perfect home would have at least 1 other dog, active family that like to sleep in Saturday morning or go for a stroll Thru the farmers market. He would love to go for mid morning coffee trips. Meet Morgan! Morgan is a very cute shepherd mix, curious and playful. Morgan came into her foster home with her mom and siblings. Her mom was very abused, and all her puppies saw this abuse. Morgan is still fearful of people but has now learned that people can be trusted! With new people it does take her a few hours to warm up, and once she does, she can be easily handled and she will relax on your lap.   She is doing great at sleeping in her crate overnight, and for naps but also fine sleeping overnight on her dog bed.  She has  learned to sit on command and is food motivated.  Morgan walks nicely on the leash but only with a fur sibling close by.  She is mostly house broken if the foster parents watch the timing.  She loves to play with her fur siblings. The ideal home is a patient, experienced, quiet home without children with a resident confident male dog that will help her to trust humans. Morgan is fearless about other dogs  and meets them appropriately. Morgan has been up to the mountains with a 4 hour drive each way and behaved well in her crate. She loved the early snow. We believe she is about 4 months old. Please research this breed before filling out an application. Scooby has really flourished in training.  He stays focused and is eager to please with 100 percent of his focus. This boy loves giving gentle kisses. He is so loving and sweet. Scooby is an awesome dog besides being absolutely stunning to look at. Please note: We are a small rescue and do not have the resources to respond to inquiries. If a dog is on our website, it is still available. We can not arrange meet & greet without an application. We are not a shelter and do not have a facility. All our dogs are in foster homes. Update: Scooby was adopted out after he completed board and train at RDRF Academy. He did extremely well!! Unfortunately, Scooby is being returned to to the rescue, due to no fault of his own. The family that adopted him worked with the training facility and he was doing well with his training. During the Thanksgiving week the family visited friends and while at the home, the resident dog, a golden retriever, attacked their young daughter. The incident has left the family overwhelmed and fearful of any dog, including sweet Scooby. We are looking for a foster or an adopter. His training still applies to his new family (working with the trainer, being taught what Scooby has learned, being set up for success) he such an incredible dog. -------- Since we had one dog heading to training and really did not have a place in which to send Scooby, we decided Scooby would also benefit from training. We recognize if we can help with giving these beautiful creatures some much needed skills we can increase their adoptability. Scooby has also really flourished in training. Scooby is more the serious student. He stays focused and is eager to please with 100 percent of his focus. This boy loves giving gentle kisses. He is so loving and sweet. Scooby is an awesome dog besides being absolutely stunning to look at. Both boys are young about the same age around a year and a half. The boys have about a week left in their training and this is when we are looking for either a foster or adopter for JJ and Scooby. The training is for his new foster or adoptive family. We have paid for lessons to continue to work with the boys. We offer support to make sure these boys are the best boys they could possibly be. The foster or adopter can meet at the academy to learn the skills JJ and Scooby have been learning. Reinforcing this training by teaching the human side of things a few skills is helpful to both sides of the equation. It also helps with understanding the dogs and what they need in order to be great pets. We are now accepting applications for both JJ and Scooby. Both boys are a little over a year, dog and people friendly and are house trained. If you are interested in meeting this dog, please review our adoption process and then fill out an online adoption form at https://www.calpaws.org/adopting. Update: A silly story from a silly 5 month old cat workable boy: Hi, guys good morning! I am up for breakfast, are you? Well, I probably should introduce myself before I talk about food. Silly me! Hi, I am Teddy (Bear) I am a strong 5-month-old warrior. Well ok maybe I am a German shepherd but warrior sounds so much better. I am soft and cuddly on the inside but strong on the outside. Hehe I was brought into calpaws a month or so ago from a place called…. Oakland Animal Service. Where a nice lady there called my peoples here and they came to my rescue. So since being here my peoples have learned lots about my warrior ness! (Foster mom: teddy you mean German shepherd puppy ness get it together tell the story right or I am kicking you off Facebook) Fine mom…. They have learned I LOVE the water, bathes, and exploring with my pack oh and stimulating toys. I love showing them I am smarter than the toys! Foster mom says I would do best in a home with older children and german shepherd experience because I am still learning my inside and people manners (jumping and mouthing). I just think it’s fun to play ok! I love to interact with new people. They always have some fun smells or get excited to see me! What’s not to love! I should tell you guys about my foster siblings they are dogs and a CAT! He tolerates my presents, I am not his favorite in the world but ehh it’s workable. I know lots of tricks in my knight and shining armor (foster mom: TEDDDDY!!!) I mean in my German shepherd ways. I know kennel, sit, down, come, and some more. If you would teach me more I promise to listen I just LOVE to learn! We’ll time to go finish my breakfast before my siblings eat it! Have a great day! Oh and if you think I’d be a good fit for your home have your peoples reach out to my peoples. I am listed on the tinder for dogs website well I guess it’s really www.calpaws.org and yup I’m there under TEDDY! Thanks, WOOF ! Volunteer: Hahah Teddy is a sweet boy and we enjoy him here at calpaws but like he has said he’s looking for his forever home. We can’t wait to find that special place! ------ Hi, My Name is Teddy (bear), and I am a 5-month-old German Shepherd puppy. I have a medium-length black and tan plush coat and am super soft to cuddle! I am good with dogs and have been staying with three adult dogs of all sizes (100-15pounds) and getting along well. I love to play chase and have a ton of energy. I have also been staying with a cat who tolerates my presence. I love the water, bathes, and exploring with my pack, and stimulating toys. I would do best in a home with older children and german shepherd experience because I am still learning my inside and people manners (jumping and mouthing). I am very verbal and love to interact with new people. I am crate trained and know my name, sit, lay down and spin. I would be a good candidate for more advanced training and am a quick learner.
