Mio and his sister Gadget were 6 months when we rescued them from the local shelter. From timid and scared at the shelter, Mio quickly transformed into a tail-wagging ball of energy, melting to the human touch and willing to do anything for his human. Just a week later, Mio is your typical happy puppy (with an extra dollop of love) - he adores going on walks to the park, running around the backyard, eating - lots, sleeping, chewing stuff (toys or bones are his foster mom’s favorites), following his selected human around like a shadow. Mio is extremely food-motivated and a determined pleaser, he is progressing well in his house training but will continue to need guidance and supervision. Mio is the perfect age for a puppy manners class, he would greatly benefit from learning the right ways to get treats and make his human happy. Mio is fostered in the house with an active older dog, who Mio adores and tries to copy. Besides playing “no touch tag” with his foster bro, Mio also beats him at dog puzzles. Mio is a very smart pup! He loves to show it off and to be stimulated and challenged. When you meet him though, first thing you notice are the sweet floppy ears, cutest forehead wrinkles, constantly wagging tail and his lovable puppy clumsiness. Mio is about 30 lbs now and will keep growing to maybe 45-50 lbs. He does not seem to care for baths, but might enjoy them more with the right kind of motivation. Mio is crate trained, happily sleeps there at night and naps during the day. Mio is sharing his foster home with 2 cats, he is curious towards them but not aggressive. Mio will do best in a home with human presence during the day. He loves people and learning new things. He has so much more to learn and is oh-so-eager!  Adoption fees: Puppies: 0-1yr $450.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHPP, DHLPP and Rabies. We deworm each dog and chip. Lastly, we spay or neuter each of our dogs. The spay or neuter of these puppies will happen at 4-5 months of age.  Our adoption process includes an initial conversation about the dog to see if the dog is a good match or if another dog could be a more suitable match. We also will complete a home visit. It should be noted that our adoption counselors know the dogs and can best guide any possible adopter with a suitable match. Cleo, short for Cleopatra, she is a very assertive, petite piebald husky and definitely a Diva! She is vocal, but very much a sweetheart.  She is full of smiles and body wags and she prances around showing anyone who cares to see her beauty. She has big energy and an endless supply of loyalty for her people. She’s incredibly clever. She has basic manners (sit, down, off). She is house trained and sleeps in her crate at night. She is exposed daily to numerous children, dogs (big and small, old and young) and cats. Her resilience is impressive! She can play for what seems like an eternity with the other dogs but she can also snuggle right into you and would love to give you kisses.  She will need a husky familiar home that can match her spunky spirit and hopefully a dog buddy  to share her sassy Husky ways with. She has endless loyalty and the drive to please her family!  If you need a little husky in your life, Cleo is your gal!  Adoption fees: Adults: 1-6yr $400.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHPP, DHLPP and Rabies. I'm Quinn, the Queensland cutie. I'm a totally chill, super sweet girl approximately 4 to 5 years of age who likes to hang out with her favorite peeps.  I’m medium in size (only 41 pounds), but I'm “BIG” into feeling cozy so my foster mama who saved me from being all alone in an orchard made me my own special den inside her home, which I'm so thankful to have and it's BIG in size too......like having my own studio. I like to hit the town walking whether it be downtown at coffee shops, public parks, neighborhoods or country settings.  I also love meeting new K9 fur friends, however I'm not so sure yet of the other fur felines.  I'm learning to enjoy smelling the flowers, love love getting lots of belly rubs oh and love kisses too.  If you love affection and want me to lay my head in your lap while watching TV, please hit me up as I don't necessarily need to be on a ranch.  I’m really enjoying the indoor home life.  I can make you as happy as you can make me, so LET’S DO THIS!!!  Adopt me and I will love you like no other. Meet Noelle! Noelle is a wonderful petite Malinois.  Her past was a rough one full of abuse, neglect, and little to no human interaction.  We believe she was an outside dog only.  Since coming to her foster home she has blossomed and continues to show her true self. She is fiercely loyal, and will always be right there with her humans.  She absolutely loves other dogs!  She is a very neutral girl and gets along with males and females wonderfully.  Noelle is such a gentle loving girl.  She has her Malinois moments, but for the most part she is very mellow. She absolutely loves laying on the couch during the day while the family busyness is going on or while her foster family watches tv.  She does great on walks and is fully leash trained.  She is still learning basic commands and really enjoys learning. She is crate and potty trained as well. Adoption fees: Puppies: 0-1yr $450.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHPP, DHLPP and Rabies. We deworm each dog and chip. Bear makes friends everywhere he goes. He bonds quickly and will lean gently into those who sit at his level while giving soft kisses. He loves to follow his foster mom around the house and spend time with the two foster fur brothers  and the middle school child who lives in the house too.  Bear  will hang out with foster dad and truly enjoys getting and giving love to the men and ladies in the neighborhood.  He is about 7 months old and has to be reminded from time to time  that he cannot run and play just yet  He has not had experience face to face with cats but watches a few from across the street. He is learning how to live in a house. The TV, mirrors, and reflection in the sliding glass doors  were all new experiences for him. He learns quickly.  He has toys for his puppy chewing needs. He has picked up a shoe from time to time but puts it down as soon as he is asked to do so.  He is getting used to sleeping in a pen area in the front room but prefers to have someone close by.  We will work on crate training more once the cone of shame is no longer required. His recovery is coming along well.  He came into the rescue with a  spiral fracture that required surgery and has two follow up visits with the surgical team scheduled.  Those visits are covered by the rescue. He needs extra encouragement to get into the car but rides well once in the car. Bear is a wonderful boy that will make a great addition to a loving home. Do you remember Eileen? She was brought into CalPaws last month after being mauled by another dog.  She had suffered severe damage to her shoulder muscle and was suffering from a massive infection. She has been in her foster home recovering and decompressing... she has also been learning lots! Her foster mom is so good with her, here is what she has to say about her: Eileen is a playful, petite 10-month-old German Shepherd brought in to the shelter as a stray, but she does not exhibit stray dog behaviors. She was rescued just minutes before she was scheduled to be euthanized. Upon exam it it looked like her leg would have to be amputated, but luckily the vets were able to save it.  Eileen is still healing both physically and mentally from the attack. Her leg is healing very well and will be fully functioning. At home, she is confident and happy, but outside she can become nervous. However, she is quickly gaining confidence. Despite having a rough start to life, Eileen is super friendly with everyone. She can be picked up and handled with no issues and has shown no sign of food aggression.  Her favorite things are food, people, and music. She is very food-motivated and would eat all day if allowed. Eileen loves everyone she has met . She loves them so much that she often gets too excited and starts jumping, so she would have to be carefully monitored around small children because she could accidentally overwhelm them. She loves music. Music of all genres relaxes her and helps her fall asleep in the car and her kennel.  Eileen is a high-energy, playful, and intelligent dog, so she requires an active family that can provide the physical exercise and mental stimulation that she needs. Without these, she may result to chewing things up out of boredom. Once she gains more outdoor confidence, she will likely enjoy going on adventures.  She knows the commands sit, down, and touch and is quickly learning stay and come. Sometimes she ignores these commands if there is no food incentive or if she is too overwhelmed, but she is still improving. She is almost fully house broken. Eileen is still working on her leash skills and manners and boy is she strong! She will require someone who can handle her pulling while she continues to learn.  Eileen is a sweetheart who deserves unlimited love and affection. She is looking forward to meeting her forever person or family! Adoption fees: Puppies: 0-1yr $450.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHPP, DHLPP and Rabies. Oh my!!  Meet Mohawk with movie star good looks and Paul Newman eyes!!  This little boy is ready to find his forever home where he will be a loyal, loving companion in an active household. He was surrendered to Calpaws K9 Rescue with his litter and has been in foster care getting lots of love and learning how to sleep in his crate (passed with an A+) and how to be house trained (scoring a B but just about has it mastered). He has basic commands down and will run to you when he hears his treat bag rattled.  He loves playing with other pups and loves going on sniffing adventures. He finds chickens (so likely cats) too tempting and is currently teething so lots of chew toys are mandatory!  He thrives being in the company of his humans and settling in for a snooze at our feet.  Adoption fees: Puppies: 0-1yr $450.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHPP, DHLPP and Rabies. Athena is an older GSD that has had some rough breaks at a time in her life when she should be enjoying her senior years. She is approximately 9 years old and is a large girl. With information gathered from people who knew the family that owned Athena, she was with them most of her life. But, this year they moved away and abandoned her and a smaller dog in the backyard. Fortunately, someone became aware of the situation and provided food and water to the dogs regularly. The smaller dog was placed into rescue, but with GSD rescues being so full, Athena wasn’t so lucky. The man who was feeding her had decided he would keep Athena, but before he could take her home, he tragically died. After some time in a boarding kennel, Athena finally made it into a rescue foster home!!! Needless to say, Athena had some trust issues, some separation anxiety and needed some medical care. Fast forward to being in a foster home for 6 weeks. Athena lives with 2 male GSD’s, a female GSD, a pot belly pig, chickens and a horse. She does the occasional bark greeting to the horse in the morning at feed time, but otherwise she seems to love the menagerie. After about 3 weeks in her foster home, she understood the daily routine and her separation anxiety was no longer an issue. She began to feel safe and secure and her playful side came out. She loves a Chuck it ball---to chase, to chew, to carry.  She also loves a daily soak in a plastic kiddie pool (as it is still quite warm where she is being fostered). Athena has learned to trot alongside the bicycle, she also loves to walk and is currently being walked on a martingale collar. She is learning to have her nails clipped. She is crate trained and currently still loves to sleep in her crate. She has never had an accident in the house. She loves to go for car rides as well. Sometimes Athena bursts out in little sprints, where she seems much younger than her actual age. She was overweight when she arrived at her foster home, but she has now lost weight and is lighter on her feet. She has great mobility. Athena would be a wonderful companion dog. She will be fine with other dogs. She might be cat workable. Due to her size and strength, she should not go into a home with young children. She will most likely need a good transition period for adjustment, so she will need someone with the patience to provide this. Although she can be aloof with strangers, once she gets to know you, Athena will be your loyal friend! Adoption fees: Senior dogs: 7+ years $350.00 Each of our dogs are fully vaccinated to include Bordetella, DHPP, DHLPP and Rabies. We deworm each dog and chip. Helloooooo humans,  they call me Powell.  My foster mom however calls me Buddy, she says it suits my personality best.  I am a 2 year old, male Rotweiler mix.  Are you looking for a jogging/hiking buddy or are you good at tug-o-war?  If so I might be a perfect addition to your family.  I walk/jog really well on leash and currently I am getting to go on adventures twice a day.  I also like to play ball, I retrieve well but I am still practicing "drop it".  If you asked me to pick between ball and tug-o-war, I'd hands down pick tug-o-war. I have so much love to give.   My foster mom has introduced me to many of her friends and even her adult son.  She has taken me to social settings and i just chill amongst the humans.  They all keep saying I am so sweet and loving.  I do well with all people, big and small.  If you are considering me for your family, please know that I am a big boy and forget my size sometimes so, the little humans may not always be happy with me. I promise to give them plenty of kisses if I accidently make them fall down. Oh and if you have a dog that would be amazing! I love dogs! I am not sure about cats as I haven't seen many of them. If you work from home that would be a big plus for me.  My foster mom works from home sometimes and I love sleeping by her feet while she works. I am also very quite, I'm not a barker so she can do her zoom calls and not be disturbed.  We also get to play ball on lunch.  If you have to go to your job that's OK too because I know you have to take care of the grown up stuff. Things I do know but need to keep practicing are: sit, lay down, stay, fetch, heel, I give paw (from a laying position).  I sleep in my crate at bedtime but I'm not a fan of being in there when the sun is up.  I know exactly what a dog run is meant for, if you have one of those I will put it to good use. I am looking forward to meeting my forever family.   In the mean time my foster mom is feeding me, giving me lots of love and helping me practice all of the good dog things. show less

Max!!  If you want a snuggle buddy, look no further! I’ve seen dogs who are affectionate, but as a foster, it often took weeks to build trust and let’s face it, many of them are looking to escape right out the gate. Not Max! I have a constant buddy. He helps me do laundry, gardening, and loves to snuggle. When it’s bedtime and I climb into bed, he lays right on the floor next to my side. If I call him, he’s there in an instant, I never have to worry about where he is, and he doesn’t get into any trouble! He’s passive around other dogs, and absolutely loves children. Given the opportunity, the one thing he wouldn’t mind doing, is chewing on cats. While Max may not be cat friendly, he is so eager to please, he’d do anything for a rub! Meet Zeus! Im very independent and love playing with other dogs of all sizes as well as my little humans.  I dont likes baths, but do like naps.  Ive been working really hard at listening and going potty outside, the big humans say im doing really good! I would like to go to a forever home that is active and likes the outdoors! When I was in the shelter another dog bit me, but I am almost all the way healed now!
