Hero and her ~2 week old litter came to us from San Bernardino City Animal Control. The original owners were over their city dog limit and were forced to surrender the chihuahua family. Unfortunately, the original owners did not leave the mother’s name, age, or even the date when the puppies were born. Having been surrendered to a kill shelter with teeny tiny babies to care for, we could only come up for one name for our chihuahua mother, Hero and a Hero she has been! For the past 6 weeks, the Hero family has been well socialized with people, especially kids. The neighborhood kids come over daily to visit and play with the puppies. At 8 weeks old, the puppies range between 2-5 lbs and we expect these chihuahua/beagle mixes (best guess) to end up at no more than 20lbs, the perfect size for any home! Momma Hero is smart, playful. and very friendly, giving these pups a great role model as they grow. While each pup has it's own distinct personality, the whole litter is curious, friendly, sweet and ADORABLE! All puppies are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped and their adoption fee is $350. Orlando is the smallest male of the litter. He tends to be a mama’s boy, very sweet temperament, and easy going. His nickname is “Sweet Orlando,” which is every so true. When Orlando isn’t running around with his siblings, he wants to be in your lap, cuddling. Orlando is one of the sweetest puppies we have ever met. Are you looking for a fun and affectionate friend to join you for walks and other adventures? Meet Simon! Simon has a sad story with a happy ending. When The Rescued Dog saved him, he had bite marks all over his hind quarters. Because of these injuries and his unknown reaction to the trauma, he was labeled "rescue only" by the shelter. Thankfully TRD saw his potential and snatched him up. The good news is that Simon has not shown any ill effects from his injuries, either physically or mentally. He's a great example of canine resiliency. His wounds are all but healed and it has taken him no time at all to warm up to his foster family, which includes an alpha-type canine brother. He is active and goofy, and loves a good long walk or a romp at the park. Simon also has some amazing ups! He would be a fun guy to try on an agility course. Simon is friendly with both people and dogs. He has great recall at the park, and is also learning his basic commands, including come and off. And when it comes time to settle down, Simon is a champion cuddler. He is also housebroken and crate trained. And did we mention he's adorable? What's not to love about this guy? Simon weighs in at around 15 pounds, which is a great size for any living condition. And at 2 years young, he is the perfect age to continue basic training. Sheldon is an adorable beagle mix looking for someone to snuggle with! This affectionate guy LOVES his people. He is also very friendly with his dog foster sibling, and seems to accept other dogs into his pack after a warm up period. Sheldon has not had one accident in his foster home since arriving from Devore shelter. He is also almost completely crate trained, and sleeps through the night in his crate. Sheldon is working on his basic training and already knows sit and shake. He is a gentle treat taker and seems to be both affection and food motivated. At 8 months old as of August 2014, Sheldon is a great age for learning obedience and tricks and well as bonding with his forever family. Could that be you? Sheldon is approximately 12-15 pounds at 8 months old. He may put on a few more pounds before he is full grown, but we don't think he will get above 20 pounds. Sheldon walks very well on the leash, but does have some leash reactivity when he sees other dogs. This is an issue that is easily addressed with some basic training, and The Rescued Dog will a provide complimentary training session for Sheldon's adopter to get you on the right track. If you are interesting in meeting Sheldon, please visit our website and fill out an application at: http://therescueddog.org/available-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ show less

If you're looking for a smart, affectionate, highly-trainable, active companion, Bronco is your guy! Bronco is a two year old red heeler who was turned into the shelter because his owners could no longer care for him. He is fairly typical of an adult male cattle dog, active and driven, while a little reserved with new people and very sensitive to his handler. He is fully crate trained, potty trained and knows basic obedience. (He's working now on perfecting his 'shake' and 'bang!' tricks!) Because his former life was as a backyard dog, he is also working hard on focusing on his handler instead of other distractions while on walks. His foster home reports that he is a quick study and loves learning new things, as well as the best snuggler they've ever had. His adorable bounce when he sees the leash come out is quite the sight to see! Bronco is currently living with two other high energy dogs, and could be successfully trained to live with cats. We would love to see Bronco go to a forever home with people who love seeing their dog learn and grow, as this guy is proving himself to be an amazing companion in a nurturing environment! While we would prefer that Bronco's forever family be experienced with herding breeds, the most important components are strong leadership skills and a love of working with your dog. Bronco comes with one complimentary session from our trainer to help him continue to adjust to city life in a new home. Bronco is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. Zelda is a sweet and smart wirehaired german pointer/schnauzer/ terrier mix looking for her forever family. Zelda is approximately 2.5 months old as of mid-August 2014. We are not sure of her exact mix, but whatever her breed combo, she sure is cute! Zelda has been a hit with her foster family. According to her foster mom, Zelda loves a long walk and is naturally good on the leash. Zelda is a quiet little girl, has already learned sit, and is almost completely housetrained and crate trained. Zelda seems to feed off of the vibe that her foster family puts out. If her people are outside goofing around, she's right there with them, bouncy and energetic. When it's time to wind down and sit on the couch, Zelda relaxes at her people's feet. While she still has fun puppy energy, Zelda seems very in tune with her humans. You are sure to see her kind nature and gentle way about her. At 2.5 months old, Zelda is approximately 12 to 15 pounds. We estimate that she will be in the 35 to 45 pound range full grown. Zelda is very smart, instinctively knows what's going on around her and is a great age to start some more formal basic training with her forever people. Are you looking for a fun and spunky pup to join your family? Please go to http://therescueddog.org/available-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ and fill out an application to meet Zelda! show less

Are you looking for a lovable, huggable cream puff of a girl? Meet Coco!! Coco is a beautiful, easy-going pittie mix who came to us through a partner rescue. She was not loving life in the kennel environment so we got her set up in a foster situation, where she can get all the love and companionship she deserves. Coco is great with other dogs. She is one of those unique dogs who will adjust her play style to suit her playmate. If you Yorkie likes to dance, Coco dances. If your Rottweiler likes to wrestle, Coco wrestles. Whatever her companion's speed, size, and style is, Coco follows suit in a respectful way. It is amazing to see. Coco is also very friendly with people, and adjusts her vibe for her human companions too. If small children are around, she is careful and gentle. She will make a great family dog. Coco has received a lot of basic training and is a star with sit, stay, and down. Her one Achilles heel to date is that she still pulls when she's on leash. She will need some consistency and positive training on leash. The Rescued Dog will provide complimentary training sessions on loose leash walking with Canine Education (canineeducationsd.com) for Coco's adopters. Coco is 2 years young, and weighs about 55 pounds. She has those cute cross eyes and a beautiful sable coat to round out her irresistibility. If you'd like to meet Coco, please fill out an application at http://therescueddog.org/available-dogs/dog-adoption-application/. Check out Coco's video clip! show less

Amira came to us from the Ramona Humane Society in Hemet, California. She found herself as a stray with what was believed to be her mom and sister. Little did we know, Amira was pregnant when we pulled her and 10 days later gave birth to 4 gorgeous puppies on June 25th. At 7 weeks old, the female pups are between 9-10 lbs and we expect these Australian shepherd/Labrador mixes (best guess) to end up at about 55-65lbs, the perfect size for action! Momma Amira is smart, friendly, and very sweet, giving these pups a great role model as they grow. We expect these puppies to take after their breed types and be active, loyal and quick-learners. While each pup has it's own distinct personality, the whole litter is curious, friendly, sweet and ADORABLE! The litter has been well socialized with people and the resident dog. All puppies are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. Amira’s litter will be available for adoption starting August 20th and their adoption fee is $350. Grace Kelly is true to her name, elegant, loving, and an all around show stopper! With her snowy down coat she is always the first to get compliments. Grace Kelly’s favorite activities are eating and sleeping, hence why she is the largest of the litter. She is so sweet and calm, but don’t worry when it’s time to play Grace Kelly is all ready for the action! She also loves to help her foster parents garden and is often seen laying in the flower beds. show less
