Sweet Annie was originally found by a good Samaritan walking through the streets of the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Good Samaritan took Annie in and asked a local organization, Hope for Paws, for help placing Annie. In turn Hope for Paws asked TRD if we could take on Annie as one of our own. We happily obliged, as Annie is a great example about everything that is wonderful about pit bull type dogs. She is smart, fun, loyal, and extremely loving. Annie lives with a foster who has a frequent canine visitor, and she loves going to the dog park, where she makes friends with other dogs and humans alike. Annie is social and sporty, but not super high energy. With a little daily exercise, Annie is happy to settle down at home and just relax. Annie is a natural for training, and already knows sit, stay, and come. She will be happy to learn whatever her human friends teach her. Annie is a snuggler, and she's not shy about it! If you are looking for a large lap dog type, Annie is definitely your girl. Annie is about 1 year old as of August 2015. She weighs in at a solid 60 pounds and we believe she is full grown. If you are interested in meeting Annie, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. show less

Magnificent Marley came to TRD as an owner surrender. We heard that Marley was on the way to pound in San Bernardino because her family was moving and they couldn't take her along. We were able to intercept her and take her into the rescue directly and spare her the horrors of the animal shelter. Great Danes are one of our favorite breeds; they are known for their loyalty, their calm, even temperament, and of course their beauty. Marley is a quintessential Dane. She is calm and relaxed in her foster home. Her foster mom describes her as a "big love muffin" and a "gentle giant". She currently lives with two other dogs, one small and one medium-sized, and everyone gets along great. Marley is about 1 and a half years old as of September 2015, and it is obvious that she hasn't had much training. She walks calmly on a leash, but she can weave around. She is still working on her house manners, but has had trouble leaving human food alone. (When you are as tall as the kitchen counter, that stuff can be extra tempting!) She is almost house trained, and gets better about it every day. She can be a little skittish around loud or unfamiliar noises. Marley will need a confident leader to show her the ropes and build up her confidence. Marley truly is a diamond in the rough, and is ready to start her life with her forever family. Marley weighs in at 90 pounds, and is up to date on all her shots. If you would like to meet Marley, please fill out an application on TRD's website and an adoption coordinator will contact you to set up a meet and greet. show less

Life can be fast paced and some dogs just don't want to miss out on anything! Meet 2-year-old Kodiak, an adorable terrier mix who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County, where he was a resident for 4 long months before coming to San Diego to join the TRD crew. It's hard to understand why this cool and compact guy wasn't snatched up! Fun and friendly, Kodiak thoroughly enjoy walks and hikes with his human friends. Kodiak also loves going to the dog park for a good romp with his canine buddies. Kodiak is great with commands and can sit and come by name recognition. His trainability shows his intelligence and eagerness to work with his owner to learn new things. More great news--he’s house AND crate trained! Kodiak spends up to 6 hours in a crate up to 4 days a week without issue and takes comfort in "his space". He can also be a cuddle buddy on the couch or in bed if you prefer. While he hasn't been around children or cats, he is around dogs regularly and has exhibited all signs of a dog with great social skills. He can keep himself occupied with his puppy-like love for toys like kongs or ropes. This guy loves toys of all shapes and sizes! At 18 pounds, Kodiak is the perfect size for most living conditions. There is a lot to be happy about when you're getting walked 4 times a day! Practice makes perfect and Cupcake, a 1-year-old female terrier mix, is beginning to walk like the best of them! She loves to be outside and has been fortunate for her numerous walks and her outdoor activities (parks, hikes, beaches) on the weekends. Cupcake is a slight sidewinder on the leash, but only because she relishes her time to explore. She is straightening out more and more during her strolls and is so gentle when meeting strangers they often compliment her on her sweet demeanor. Cupcake hasn't been around children of cats, but judging by her interaction with strangers, she might be just fine with both. Her exploring includes inside her foster home too as she curiously follows her fosters around the house. She knows it's only a matter of time before she gets one of her two favorite things; a belly rub or time resting on her foster's lap. She eats twice a day and drinks her water lying on her belly with her head in the bowl. She obviously likes to be unique! What's not unique is her common dog fetish for shoes--they look tasty to her so be careful! When the sun goes down, Cupcake sleeps either on her dog bed in the living room or from time to time in her crate. Potty trained in just days, Cupcake is house trained and ready to go. She will make a fantastic addition to your family! If you would like to meet Cupcake, please fill out an application o the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. show less
