Sweet Stassi came to The Rescued Dog from the Humane Society of Imperial County, where she was taken in as a stray. This adorable 12-pound spaniel mix is a great little leash walker. She stays close to her human and falls in with her doggie foster brother well. When she is out on walks she loves meeting new people, and she is cautious but not impolite with other dogs. Her doggie foster brother is a bigger rough and tumble kind of guy, she we know she will do fine with another dog in the home. Stassi is 1 year old as of July 2015. She is the perfect age to start some basic training with her forever family. She already knows "sit" and she is excited to learn more! She is fun and friendly and will be fun to train. Adorable puppy Wendy came to TRD from Humane Society of Imperial County, where she was taken in as a stray in Calexico. Wendy is a smart and sweet girl who is already picking up on basic training in her foster home. She currently lives with small children, a cat, and a dog (a TRD "graduate"!) She gets along well with everyone! Wendy's foster mom reports that Wendy has already figured out that she needs to go outside to go potty, and will tap at the door when she needs to go. Wendy is also working on her leash manners. She's great when she's the only dog, but when she walks with her doggie foster sibling she just wants to play! At 3 months old as of early July, Wendy is the perfect age to start her puppy training with her forever family. This smart and sweet girl will be fun and easy to train. She is around 15 pounds at 3 months old, and we predict that she will be around 60 pounds when she is fully grown. Sweet and easygoing Rocco was saved from the streets of Ensenada and brought up to TRD in June 2015. This handsome guy is very dog and people friendly, and has a fun sporty side to him. He is great at the dog park and enjoys off-leash play time with his canine buddies. He currently lives in a foster home with another dog and does great with his foster "sister". Rocco also has a snuggly side and loves to be next to his humans. He thinks of himself as a lap dog, even though he's a sturdy 30 pounds.According to his foster family, Rocco has two modes: energetic and sporty or couch potato! A good walk or a trip to the dog park followed by some couch time would pretty much be Rocco's idea of the perfect day. Rocco has been a street dog, and does not have much in the way of basic training, although he would be a quick learner. Rocco will need to live in a home with a secure fence as he has been a wanderer for the first year and a half of his life. Rocco has a lot of potential and is already a great companion. And at 1 and a half years old, he is the perfect age to start the rest of his life with his new family. Those ears!! That face! How can anyone resist? Meet Pepper Potts, an adorable spaniel/pomeranian mix who was surrendered by her owner to San Bernardino County's shelter. How anyone could give up this cutie is beyond us, but we are certainly happy she is with TRD! Pepper's foster describes her as a sweet, loving, and playful puppy who has lots of fun energy but who can sit quietly when asked to do so. Pepper is a sporty little dog, she's very athletic and loves to run! She is also very smart and food motivated. She already knows her name, sit, and fetch, and is quickly learning other skills. When Pepper Potts first came to us, she was only 4 months old and fearful of new humans and dogs, and likely to guard those she does trust. We suspect some kind of traumatic event made her mistrusting of new friends and too protective of old ones. Her foster, who is also a dog trainer, has been working diligently to train her away from this behavior and she has made great strides toward becoming a lovely companion. Pepper is looking for a home with owners who will continue her training and help her grow. Pepper is comfortable with older, respectful children, but toddlers can be a little overwhelming for her. Pepper is already crate trained and house trained. At 6 months old, she is at a great age to continue her training and start her life with her new family. A chug? A pugwawa? Call her what you want, we call Honey Bun plain old adorable! This sweet little pug-chihuahua mix came to TRD from the Ramona Humane Society in San Jacinto. They know we have a thing for dogs with silly underbites! Honey Bun is a little shy to start with new people. She was unsure of her foster mom's touch at first, which makes us suspect she was treated with a heavy hand in her past. Once she warms up and starts to trust, though, she is affectionate and loyal. She has met families with children while out on walks, and she gently approaches them for pets. We think Honey Bun would do well in a family with respectful children. She also seems to be particularly fond of men. Honey Bun looks for cues from her humans before she interacts with cats and other dogs. She seems reluctant to interact with other dogs, although she is not aggressive, just unsure. She will need a forever family who will work on her confidence in these situations. The reward for this training and patience will be a loving, life-long companion. Honey Bun is about 1 year old and weighs around 10 pounds. Adorable Indy was found as a stray and brought into Humane Society of Imperial County. Clearly, 3-year-old Indy was a breeding dog and was already grossly overbred by the time TRD got her. Despite this mistreatment from humans, Indy is a really easygoing dog with people, and enjoys meeting new human friends. Her foster family reports that she is calm and happy to be left in their home alone during the day but has lots of energy for walks when it's time to be active. Overall she is a low maintenance, easygoing girl. Indy has not had much in the way of obedience training. So far, she has learned "sit", and it ready to learn more! Indy can be leash reactive with other dogs, so she will need a little training in that department. (All adoptions through The Rescued Dog include a complimentary training session.) It appears that she is unsure of herself when she meets other dogs. We believe that she can acclimate to living with another dog if she is introduced properly, but she will need good leadership from her people with that. Indy is large for a Boston terrier, about 32 pounds. We believe she is mixed with French or Victorian bulldog. This may have been part of the appeal for breeding her, unfortunately. She is now spayed, healthy, and ready for her forever home. Are you looking for a fun and friendly dude to join your pack? Meet Rusty! Rusty came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County, when he was taken in as a stray. This adorable little low rider is a good natured guy who loves everyone he meets, both human and canine. He has also been living with cats! Rusty is up for any adventure but he is also an expert snuggler and knows when it's time to relax and hang out. Rusty has been living in a home with a younger child and is gentle and respectful. He would love to be in an active family with lots of company. Rusty is smart and is at a perfect age to begin his basic training with his new forever family. He learns quickly and will be fun and easy to train. Rusty is about 1 year old as of early June 2015. At around 20 pounds, Rusty is a great size for almost any living situation. Pint-sized Rupert was relinquished to the San Bernardino with five other dogs. We are not sure of the whole story, but by the time Rupert came to The Rescued Dog, he was understandably confused and very scared. He is now in a foster home now with 3 other dogs. His foster parents have been carefully encouraging him to come out of his shell and he has made great improvements! He has even attended a recent "Yappy Hour", where he spent most of his time in new people's laps. Rupert seems to gain confidence around other dogs and we recommend he goes to a home with another dog. Once Rupert warms up he is a great little snuggler. He is content to warm laps and be held. He is also a fan of laying on soft blankets and beds. Rupert does not have much in the way of training, but he is very food motivated, which will help a lot with basic commands. Rupert still looks to dash when he is nervous, so he will need to go to a home where his people will be very diligent. Rupert is working on his leash manners every day and seems to be happy when he is out with his pack. He also likes to play with his foster siblings in the yard. Rupert is crate trained and almost fully house trained. Rupert weighs in at about 8 pounds, and we estimate that he is between 2 and 3 years old. Let's play, matey! We are pretty sure that if Captain Hook could speak, that's what he would say to everyone he meets, canine or human! This playful little poodle is ready for any high seas adventure. Captain Hook came to TRD from Humane Society of Imperial Valley, where he was brought in as a stray. Captain Hook has a pirate smile and one little peg leg to add to his charm. We think his "tripod" status gives him panache, and it doesn't slow him down a bit! Captain Hook lives in a foster home with another dog, a cat, and small children. He does great with everyone! The Captain is crate trained and house trained, and loves a good walk with his pack. His foster mom reports that he is a loving and obedient guy who learns quickly and loves to be around his people. Captain Hook is about 1 year old as of early June 2015, and at around 12 pounds, he is a great size for almost any living situation. His handsome (and hypoallergenic) coat is low shedding. Loveable Luna came to The Rescued Dog from San Bernardino, where she was taken in as a stray. Luna is an adorable beagle mix with cute hound ears and a unique red-and-white coat. Luna's foster family reports that she gets along well with cats and also kids! Luna shows some spunk when her foster family arrives home, but for the most part, she is a mellow and easy-going girl. Luna likes a nice walk with her family. They give her plenty of time to sniff around, like all hound dogs want to do. She also spends time playing with her family in the backyard. Luna is a happy girl as long as she is with her people! Luna is housetrained and is working on her crate training. Luna is about 2 years old as of early June 2015. Sweet as sugar, our adorable Azucar was found in an abandoned house in Tijuana. We took one look at her goofy ears and silly smile and knew that she was a TRD dog! Especially considering her recent past, Azucar is exceptionally loving towards humans, and gets along great with other dogs. She is also very good on leash, and loves a good pack walk. She also responds well to her name, and comes when she's called. Azucar's foster reports that she is almost housetrained and is doing well with her crate training. She sleeps in her crate at night. Azucar is also a gentle treat taker, and is generally calm and submissive. She is also good in the car. Azucar is about 9 months old as of May 2015 and weighs in at about 30 pounds. Fun and affectionate, 2-year-old Schnauzer Buster came to The Rescued Dog from Humane Society of Imperial County, where he was taken in as a stray in Calexico. It is hard to believe someone wouldn't come looking for this guy. He appears to be a purebred Schnauzer, and he is very social, especially with people. Clearly he was in a loving home at some point in his life. Buster is now in San Diego, working his way towards living the dream. He goes to the park every day with his foster family and he gets regular walks. His foster family reports that he is not terribly interested in playing with other dogs at the park but he does love to run around and be outside. Buster also has nice leash manners and does not pull at all. In the home, Buster is affectionate and cuddly. If anything, he is a little TOO affectionate (if there is such a thing). If he doesn't get the affection he thinks he deserves, he will let you know with a gentle push of his muzzle. Buster is fully house trained and crate trained, and can be left at home through a work day without getting himself into trouble. Overall, Buster is a smart, sweet, trustworthy guy. At 2 years old, he is at a great age to start his life with his new forever family. And at about 20 pounds, Buster is a great size for most living situations. Mellow Molly, a six-year old shepherd/lab/great dane mix is a low-key snuggler who just wants to hand out in the house with her family. She's so easy to get along with, she never even complains when her doggy foster brother, the same size as she is, sits on top of her. She's happy to take daily walks, or go off on a romp to a dog beach or park, but she’s just fine being your resident couch potato, too. Her foster mom calls her "our angel" and knows she will be a wonderful companion for a person or family who are looking for a gentle, lower energy house pup. She's great with kids, fully house-trained and is good at waiting when you ask her to. The adorable Disney princess puppies were dumped in a box at the residence of Humane Society of Imperial Valley's director, sick and covered in ticks. The Rescued Dog brought them home to San Diego and volunteers spent hours picking the ticks off of these poor babies. Like most puppies do, these little girls took it all in stride. It seemed like a couple of them even thoroughly enjoyed their "spa day". Now the girls are all cleaned up, healthy, fattened up, and ready to start their forever lives with new families. These adorable sheltie mixes each have their own personality and look. Aurora is an explorer, playful and outgoing. She is very food motivated and in true princess fashion, she lets you know when she wants something! We expect that at full grown, the girls will be in the 20 to 35 pound range. They seem to be a mix of sheltie-corgi-spaniel, with fluffy fur and longer bodies. Really, their mix is anyone's guess, but whatever it is, it sure it cute! Sweet and petite, Eva came to The Rescued Dog from Humane Society of Imperial Valley with Cassie, and we suspect they are related, possibly mother and daughter. Eva is an adorable little cattle dog mix with a shy demeanor and a funny little high-stepping gait. Eva can be shy and reserved when she meets new people, but it doesn't take her long to warm up and start snuggling. Eva has a sporty little frame and is ready to get in shape for long walks, hikes, and runs. She also gets along great with other dogs, and currently lives in a foster home with a playful lab mix. At about 2 years old, Eva is a great age to start life with her forever family. She is over all the puppy stuff, but still has a lot of spring in her step and many years of love to give. She's also at a great age for basic training, and as smart and loving as she is, she will be easy and fun to train. At 25 pounds, Eva is a great size for most living situations. Fun and frisky Freya is the ultimate puppy! At 3 months old as of early June, Freya is full of energy and ready for adventure. Freya does well with other dogs, cats, and any person she meets. Freya is already 20 pounds at 3 months old, so we expect her to be pretty big, somewhere in the 60 to 75 pound range. Because of her size and her typical puppy rambunctiousness, a home with bigger kids would be best for Freya. Freya is smart and will be fun to train. Because of her size, early training is a must! Experience with puppies is also recommended for this girl. She will be a handful for a while, but worth all the work! Freya has a sweet, affectionate side and bonds quickly with her human friends. Our guy Pita is a fun and friendly doxie-terrier mix who came to The Rescued Dog from the San Bernardino shelter. Pita has a great balanced demeanor. He is up for any activity, but he is also happy to chill out at home. Pita's foster mom works for a local doggie daycare and Pita spends most of his days hanging out there while she works. He loves a good game of chase with other dogs! Pita also walks well on the leash, but can be a little leash reactive at times. He does respond well to correction and with training and consistency this issue is easily addressed. (Pita's adoption comes with a complimentary training session with our loose leash training expert.) Pita is about a year and a half old as of early June. He is at a perfect age for training, and he is also over all the puppy stuff. Pita is house trained and crate trained, and generally just a joy to be around. He has a snuggly affectionate side, and seems to love every human he meets. At 25 pounds, Pita is a great size for almost any living situation. Are you looking for a fun, loving, active puppy to join your family? Meet Ava!! Ava is an adorable 5-month-old Gordon setter-hound mix looking for love and adventure! Ava came to The Rescued Dog from the Humane Society of Imperial Valley. Ava is smart and obedient, and has already picked up some basic training, including commands like sit, down, and off. She has also gotten used to her household routines of when to go potty. Ava is also crate trained and sleeps in her crate at night. Ava is very smart, and is at a perfect age to get some formal training. She will be easy and fun to train. Ava is currently in a foster home with 2 other dogs and she gets along well with everyone. At 42 pounds as of early June, it's safe to say that Ava will be pretty big! So getting her training in place early will be important for this fun and friendly girl.
