Meet Koda! Koda is a beautiful shepherd mix looking for a fun and active family who will appreciate her zest for life! Koda has it all: sweetness, smarts, and social skills. Even as a puppy, Koda is pretty independent and does well on her own, but she also appreciates some canine companionship and lots of play time. She currently lives with two canine foster siblings, one big and one small, and does great with both. She is also affectionate with her humans, without being needy. Koda definitely has a sporty side and will make a great running partner, walking pal, and hiking companion. Koda is a smart girl. She has already figured out a few commands and is working on more! Koda is almost house trained and is crate trained. She is about 4 months old as of late July 2017, and weighs in at around 25 pounds. Halston and his litter mates are adorable lab-beagle mixes who are looking for their forever homes after a rough start. The litter was born March 29, 2017. At 13 weeks old as of early July 2017, these guys are a great age to start life with their forever families. Their mom was a yellow lab and we believe dad was a beagle. The lab-beagle combo will make for some fun, smart, good-looking mid-sized dog! Halston seems very lab-like, and loves fetching. He also loves a good romp with his canine foster siblings. Halston is a typically mischievous puppy and will get to digging and other shenanigans if he's not supervised! Adorable Roxy came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. This little cutie is a fun and curious girl who loves a good pack walk with her foster family. She currently lives with kids, cats, and dogs, and gets along with everyone. She seems most happy and comfortable around other dogs around and we'd like for her to go to a home with a canine sibling. Her favorite game is playing keep away with stuffed animals. She also loves a good game of chase with her canine foster siblings. When it comes time to wind down, Roxy is a lover and would like nothing more than to curl up on the couch for a snuggle session with her people. Bruce Wayne earned his name for his awesome bat ears. This fun little guy is sporty and smart. His foster family reports that he is quickly learning the ways of the world, although it's obvious that up until now he's had very little in the way of training. Bruce is quickly picking up commands and will benefit from continued structure and training with his new forever family. Bruce still has some puppy-like tendencies, like a limited attention span while training and a chewing on things. As long as he is provided with proper (and sturdy) things to chew on, he's a happy boy. Bruce is also great on leash, and social with other dogs. He's crate trained and house trained. Bruce weighs in at 20 pounds, and as of June 2017 he is approximately 1 year old. Meet Kitty, a sweet and lovable long-haired dachshund who came to TRD when her owner could no longer care for her. If cuddling were an Olympic sport, Kitty would be a gold medalist! Kitty is a lover, and wants nothing more than to be by her human's side. Kitty walks well on a leash, and is social with other dogs. Adorable Monaka is named after a sweet dessert, and her name couldn't be more fitting. This tasty little treat of a pup is a true people pleaser, and has never met a human (big, small, young, old, male, female) who she doesn't immediately love. Monaka also loves the company of other dogs. She's fun and playful with her canine buddies. Monaka has a sweet little feature: she is a tripod! One of her hind legs is not fully formed (our vet thinks it could have been that way since birth). We think her three-legged status only adds to her charm, and it certainly doesn't slow Monaka down! Are you looking for a sweet and soulful companion to warm your lap, and your heart? Meet Polly! Polly, or Polly Potato, as her foster mom affectionately calls her, came to TRD from the Human Society of Imperial County. Polly was not in great health and needed some medical attention for some growths on her tummy. Thankfully, TRD was able to get her the care that she needed and the growths have been removed and were not cancerous. Polly is now in perfect health and ready for her forever family. This little doll is about 6 years old and weighs in at around 10 pounds. She walks very nicely on the leash. True to her loving and loyal personality, she stays right by your side on a walk. She's friendly with other people and dogs she meets out on walks. Polly's foster mom reports that she is extremely affectionate and wants to be wherever her human is. She is crate trained, but is trustworthy at home without being crated. Polly is full of tricks, including catching treats out of the air. This little nugget of love is big on personality! Polly gets along great with other dogs and is a gentle, sweet, go-anywhere kind of gal. Meet Chewy, an adorable black lab puppy who was abandoned at a local vet's office when it was discovered that he tested positive for parvo. Chewy's symptoms were very mild and quickly resolved, but his people did not want to stick it out with him. It's hard to understand how anyone could do that to a puppy, especially one as great as Chewy. Chewy's symptoms were treated and it didn't take long for him to fully recover. Our vet expects no long-term effects from his parvo, and suspects that his parvo test may even have been a false positive. Despite this unfair start, Chewy is a happy-go-lucky guy with a great disposition. He is in every way a typical lab puppy: he's smart, sweet, sporty, and adorable. Chewy already knows several commands, including come, sit, stay, down, and shake. Chewy is very loyal and sticks close to his people's side on walks. Chewy shows every sign that he is a water dog, and would be a lot of fun at the beach. Chewy is very fun and social with other dogs and loves a good wrestling match with his canine buddies. Chewy is also growing up with cats and likes them (a lot!) Chewy is a little mouthy, as is typical for all puppies and labs in particular, but his foster family is working on that behavior and making good progress. Chewy is also practicing on his house training, but he doesn't quite have it mastered yet. After a rough start, this little gem deserves a great forever family who will give him the life of fun and love he deserves. Chewy's birthday is March 1, 2017. Judging by his paws, he's going to be a bigger guy (in the 70 to 80 pound range) full grown. Meet Moxie! Moxie came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County, shy, sweet, and very pregnant. Moxie gave birth to 7 rolly polly pups and has been a great momma. She is very attentive and loving with her puppies, and now it is time for someone to be attentive and loving to her! We are still getting a feel for Moxie's personality as she has been in momma mode since we've rescued her. Her foster mom reports that she gets along well with the two resident dogs and does fine with their cat too. Moxie can be fearful of dogs she hasn't met, but she warms up with proper introductions. She will benefit from continued social time with other dogs and humans too. Moxie is also quite attentive to her human foster family, and gets excited when her people come home. She follows her foster mom around loves some love and attention from her human friends. Moxie is sort of a rambler when she's out on a walk. As long as you have nowhere in particular to go, Moxie is great company on a stroll. Moxie is about 2 years old as of May 2017, and weighs in at a lovely, compact 20 pounds. Meet Birdie, a sweet and silly schnoodle looking for her forever family. Birdie came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. Birdie is a loyal and loving companion who sticks by her human's side. Even though Birdie is about 3 years old as of June 2017, she still has some funny puppy-like qualities. She is kind of dopey, and a little bit clumsy sometimes! She can be silly, and her foster family reports that she's also a champion napper, and generally pretty lazy around the house. It seems as though Birdie hasn't had a lot of socialization with other dogs in her young life. She is pretty indifferent to other dogs at the dog park, and will sometimes bark and pull when she sees other dogs when she's on leash on a walk. She is working on being more social with other canines, but she has the loving relationship thing with her humans down pat. Birdie weighs in at around 27 pounds. She is a great size for almost any living situation. To say that Sadie has had a tough start is quite an understatement. Sadie came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County, where she was originally taken in as a stray. We took one look at her sweet little face and knew she was one of ours. She came to San Diego and was placed with a loving foster family that includes kids, dogs, and a cat. Sadie was settling in and getting ready to move on to her forever family. Unfortunately, during Sadie's spay surgery she had an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. Even when reversal drugs were administered, she was very slow to respond. Our vets went into further diagnostics, and after blood work and a bile acid study, it was suspected she had a liver shunt. A dye-traced CT scan confirmed her liver shunt. Luckily for Sadie, the shunt was external to the liver and was operable. We are happy to report that after many weeks of treatment and recovery, Sadie is fully healthy and ready for her new life with her forever family. In spite of Sadie's rough start, she is very sweet and affectionate, and loves her humans. She has a fun and spunky side, but she is pretty mellow out on walks. Sadie can sometimes be unsure in situations with new dogs, and will need slow and proper pooch introductions. Once she is familiar with new furry friends, she is happy to hang out. Sadie is 1 year old as of March 2017, and weighs in at a petite 10 pounds. Say “Hello” to adorable Adele. Her first few weeks of life in Mexico were rough to say the least, as Adele became an orphan after her mother was killed. Soon after being rescued by a good samaritan, she was attacked by the good samaritan's personal dog. Despite all of this, Adele has a positive outlook on life and loves every person and dog she meets. Adele is approximately 12-16 weeks old and weighs in at 6 pounds. Adele is a mix of several breeds, with terrier and daschund possibly being two of them. This delightful toy terrier mixed breed may be dainty and small in stature, but she possesses a spunky little personality. She is super affectionate with a lot of terrier energy. While playful and enthusiastic with humans and other dogs, she equally enjoys lounging around in her giant dog bed and LOVES belly rubs. She is crate-trained and 90% potty-trained. She is also in the process of leash training, but prefers to be held. She has a commanding bark when hungry or in a frisky mood. Mango and her adorable siblings Buttercup and Darby came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. These adorable puppies are shepherd-mountain dog mixes who are 4 months old as of March 2017. These pups are 20 pounds and growing! We aren't sure exactly how big they will be full grown, but they will be big! It's possible they will be in the 65 to 80 pound range as adults. Mango can be shy when meeting new people and dogs. Mango and her foster mom have been working with a trainer to overcome her fearful nature. Mango's adoption will include a complimentary training session from our trainer to help Mango get on the right paw with her new family. Mango's foster mom reports that although Mango likes to be in the same room as her human, she does settle down quickly in her crate or pen. Mango has a fun, playful side, loves most toys, and is responding well to house training. Mango is the most affectionate of her siblings. Mara and her six siblings were born on April 2, 2017 to Moxie, a sweet beagle-Jack Russell terrier mix. Moxie is a sweet and petite 20-pound gal, but the seven puppies are growing quickly and it looks like they will be a lot bigger than their mom. Mara is playful and sweet. She is very attached to her mom, and also to her human foster mom. Mara does have an adventurous side and likes to explore by herself in the backyard of her foster family.
