Adorable Gracie is one of TRD's latest recruits who came from the Imperial County Shelter in July 2017. She is a loving and sweet poodle mix and at about a year old, she is full-grown at a petite 13 pounds, which makes her an ideal companion for any living situation. Gracie has been described as fur ball of energy by her foster mom and will thrive in a home where she gets to express her energy. Given her rough life so far, Gracie has not had much training yet and is still learning how to be a well-behaved dog. She is almost crate trained (she sleeps in a crate by herself at night) and is working on her house training. She can be easily over-excited, especially when meeting new people. She is learning better ways to greet people and her forever family will want to continue this training. (Every adoption with TRD comes with a complimentary training session with our resident trainer!) Gracie occasionally begs for attention from her humans and, like most doggos, she loves getting cuddles and belly rubs from them. Overall Gracie is total people person and according to her foster mom, she would prefer if you held her and let her lay in your lap all day long. Gracie is a smart dog and in just a few short weeks in her new home she has picked up a few basic commands and is working on learning more. She has also possibly never been on a leash before and is learning leash walking seemingly for the first time. Gracie is good with other dogs in her foster home but needs slow introductions when meeting new dogs. With proper training and patience, Gracie can go a long way from her rough start. Gracie has also been determined as not cat-friendly, so she is a better fit in a family without any cats at home. Gracie would be perfect fit for a family looking for an petite, energetic dog and a forever family that can provide an outlet for her zoomies and continue her training. If you would like to meet Gracie, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet Vala, a beautiful Belgian shepherd mix who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County. This mild mannered sweetie has been a model citizen since we've had her. She is good with other dogs, great on leash, and shy but sweet with new humans. She comes to all of our fundraiser events and was a star in our Fiesta de Fido fashion show last spring. In her foster home Vala lives with two other dogs and plays well with them. She also understands when they need personal space and is very in tune with her companions, both human and canine. Vala is a very lovable girl, and a beauty to boot. TRD rescued Vala in January 2017, and during a routine exam before her spay our vets discovered that she had a serious heart murmur. After a consultation with a veterinary cardiologist, a decision was made not to operate on Vala's heart because it would have other potential adverse side effects. Instead we started her on a medication called atenolol, which helps her heart continue to effectively circulate blood. After 6 months on the atenolol, and with a consistent walking schedule and lots of play time, Vala shows no signs of ill health or slowing down. A little more research has shown us that dogs of Vala's type and size have lived long, full lives with her condition. We would love to find Vala the forever home she deserves. She is a wonderful dog who will be a great companion. Vala's medication costs about $5 a month. Other than that, she is a very low-maintenance girl, and would not need any special medical treatment. If you would like to meet this special girl and give her the life she deserves, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and and adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

True to her Basset Hound nature, Macy is easy going, sweet tempered, affectionate and funny. It’s amazing this girl is so loving and sweet after the rough start she had. This poor girl was kept in a back yard and neglected to the point that neighbors were feeding her through the fence. After escaping the yard numerous times and being picked up by animal control in her neglected state, the Humane Society of Imperial County kept her in their care until TRD could get her into foster care! Macy’s foster family says she’s an absolute sweetheart! She loves a good cuddle, follows her humans around and loves to play. Macy is great with other dogs. She loves the companionship and loves to run and chase her foster sister (a fellow Basset mix). At about 2 years old she’s the perfect age to add to any family. She has medium energy and definitely loves her leashed walks, park play and beach outings. She is still working on her house training but is coming along nicely. Macy came to us extremely underweight but with her ravenous appetite, she’s been enjoying putting on some weight! Bassets are known for their extreme love for food and Macy is no exception; her nose leads her to any tidbit of food her human foster siblings leave laying around! Basset Hounds are naturally vocal and Macy has the perfect basset bark when playing. However, so far her foster family hasn’t heard her howl or bark excessively at all. Macy is still working on her basic commands and is fully crate trained. Macy deserves a life of extreme love and affection after her neglected start! A family with Bassett experience/knowledge would a perfect fit. If you’d like to add Macy to your family, please fill out an application. show less

What could be more adorable than a litter of American Bully mix puppies? Well, a litter of puppies with Lion King themed names. Brothers Hakuna, Matata, and Scar along with their sisters Nala and Serabi cameto TRD in August 2017 from an accidental litter - their mother a white german shepherd, and father is an American Bully. At 8 weeks of age, Scar is already 17 lbs and is probably the biggest among his siblings. We expect him to be in the 60-70 pound range full grown. He has a beautiful and soft beige and tan coat, which makes him stand out from his brothers. According to his foster mom, Scar is a energetic pup with the sweetest disposition. Like most young Bullies, Scar is very playful and spends his days alternating between naps and romps with his brothers in his foster's backyard. His favorite toys are a Kong and rope toys. Scar is a smart little pup--within less than 2 weeks in his foster home, he has mastered name recall. His foster mom is working on crate and house training (he is learning to sleep in a crate at night), but given his young age it will take a few more weeks for him to perfect these skills. Scar and his brothers are also expert chewers (shoes are their favorite). The foster family is working on phasing them out of his habit. Scar loves his treats and can be taught new commands easily with some treats for positive reinforcement. Scar will be a perfect fit for a family looking to adopt a young pup and is willing to work on his house/potty training, and leash walking in return for unlimited and unwavering puppy love and loyalty. If you would like to meet Scar, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Are you looking to add some puppy love with endless puppy fun, licks and cuddles to your family? Then, look no further- introducing our lab-mix puppies Tucker and Cora. Tucker and Cora came to TRD from the Imperial County shelter in early July 2017. At 10 weeks, they currently weigh about 5 lbs. As full grown fidos, we expect them to grow to approximately 30 to 40 lbs. Cora loves play time and romps in his foster parents backyard with her brother about 4-5 times a day. She is a fan of all kinds of toys- ropes, stuffed, frisbees. Cora has unlimited energy and will chase her brother all over the yard. She is the first one out the door each morning and is always ready to go explore! In just a week in her foster home, she has learned to go in and out through the doggie door! Cora is almost crate trained (she sleeps in a crate at night with her brother), and is currently working on her house training skills. She is making progress on the command to "go potty" on the grass, but will need more training to be fully house trained. Like most energetic puppies, Cora likes to chew and need lots of toys to keep her from gnawing on fingers and clothes. She is also working on learning new commands with her brother, and has already mastered 'Come'. Cora has been great with kids in her foster home and is friendly and curious with other dogs. If you would like to meet Cora, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet Tallulah, a hilarious, fun-loving itty bitty pitty looking for a great forever family. Tallulah came to TRD from the San Bernardino County shelter. She was picked up as a stray, and her family came to get her at the shelter. When they found out that she was going to be spayed before leaving the shelter, however, they left her there, because they were planning on using her to breed. We are happy to say that we rescued her from the fate of a life as a backyard breeding dog. When Tallulah made her way to her foster home, it became obvious that she had a limp, and it turned out that she had a high fracture in her right tibia. Our vet thinks it was probably a result of her jumping off of something high (we think she did it when she made her escape!) It is impossible to keep this little wiggle butt down, however, and after 7 weeks in a splint, Tallulah's fracture has healed and she's ready to take on the world. During Tallulah's recovery time, she spent a lot of time hanging out at her foster mom's office, and she proved to be a great office dog. She has not met a person she doesn't like. Once she meets and greets office newcomers, she goes back to her bed and relaxes. Tallulah is also fun and well behaved at dog-friendly restaurants. Tallulah loves other dogs and currently lives with a smaller female chihuahua mix and a medium-sized male boxer mix. She has a rambunctious play style that matches her exuberance for life in general. When she first meets new dogs her enthusiasm can be a little off-putting, so her new family will need to understand how to manage friendly and positive introductions with Tallulah out in public. Tallulah is a totally typical English Staffordshire terrier, She is loyal, smart, goofy, and strong. She's extremely affectionate. She is also smart and has learned some basic commands in her short time with her foster family. Adopters who are familiar with this breed are preferred for Tallulah, as she displays all of the characteristics of this fun but sometimes challenging breed. Preference will also be given to home owners versus renters, as Tallulah will definitely be seen as a "pit bull" type dog and likely be subject to breed restrictions. Tallulah is 1 year old as of August 2017 and weighs in at a muscular, sturdy 40 pounds even. If you would like to meet Tallulah, please fill out an adoption application and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Serabi has been working on her house training and her crate training. This little lady is smart, and ready for some basic training with her new forever family. Introducing Madonna, a brindle terrier mix who came to us from the Imperial County Shelter in May 2017. Like her name sake, Madonna has a fun and spunky personality that will definitely keep things interesting around your home. As of June 2017, Madonna weighs around 14 pounds which makes her an excellent fit in any living arrangement and a perfect size for the cuddle monster that she is. Madonna loves going for walks. She is calm on the leash and once a week her foster family takes her to Fiesta Island for an off-leash run--which happens to be Madonnas favorite place in San Diego! In just a few weeks with her foster family, Madonna has mastered a few commands like "come" and name recall. She can be a very well trained pup with more training from her forever family. She is already crate trained and sleeps in her crate all night. She is also house trained. She is still a little nervous when meeting new people, so her adopters will need to be patient with her as she transitions to a new home. However, with a little bit support and positive reinforcement, we are sure Madonna will get over these habits. Madonna loves to be petted and to play with her toys. She really likes other dogs her own size and is great with kids as well. She is a playful little thing but also enjoys just lounging on the couch and cuddling. All in all she is a very sweet dog and just needs a family that will love her and cherish her quirky personality forever. If you would like to meet Madonna, please fill out an adoption application and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less
