Adorable little Katsu came to The Rescued Dog from Riverside County, where he was a fearful little guy destined for euthanasia. Thankfully, Katsu caught the eye of TRD's rescue coordinator and we snatched him up. Katsu has been slow to warm up in his foster home, but he has recently turned a corner and is turning into quite the character! Katsu enjoys the company of confident dogs, and will do best in a home with other confident dogs who can show him the ropes. Once Katsu warms up to his people, he shows that he has a lot of personality, and potential. Katsu has already caught on to crate training, and he is house trained. He enjoys his backyard play time with his canine foster siblings and his foster mom. Once he warms up to his people, he can be a big goofball! He loves chasing his foster mom around the house, and he has recently discovered how amazing belly rubs can be. This little guy is a diamond in the rough, ready for a forever family who will show him that the world can be a wonderful and loving place. Katsu is about 7 months old and weighs in at around 10 pounds as of April 2016. We expect that he will be about 12 pounds full grown. If you're looking for an adorable little guy to add to your pack, fill out an application to meet Katsu! Please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Fun and flamboyant Bernadette (Bernie for short) is a whirlwind of activity and affection. Bernie came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County, and we believe that she is the sister of TRD alum Penny. She is a funny cattle dog mix with a snub nose that seems very Boston terrier-like. Bernie currently lives with other dogs and a cat. She loves to romp with her canine brothers. While she likes to chase the cat a little, she responds well to corrections. Bernie is good with children, but given her energy and her puppy-like exuberance, we recommend she goes to a family with older children. Bernie is active and will need a family who understands her need for activity and stimulation. Experience with the cattle dog breed would be a plus. Bernie is extremely smart and will respond well to training. She is also extremely affectionate and will fill her forever family's days with laughter, love, and a whole lotta action! Bernie is about 11 months old as of February 2016 and weighs in at about 25 pounds. She may gain a little more before she is fully grown, but not too much. If you are looking for a fun little bundle of joy and activity, look no further than Bernie! To meet Bernie, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet sweet Ella, who came to TRD from Hope for Paws in LA. Hope for Paws rescued Ella off of the mean streets of LA and wanted Ella to have the benefit of a loving and stable foster life while she waits patiently waits for her forever family. TRD was happy to oblige for a sweet and loving girl with such a rough start. At home with her fosters, Ella is a complete love bug. If you are looking for a low-key snuggler, look no further--Ella is your girl. Her foster family reports that she spends plenty of time taking naps on the couch "in the most hilarious positions". While she is a champion snuggler and napper, there is nothing Ella loves more than to play with squeaky toys and go for a good walk. She gets very excited when she sees the leash come out! She is good on the leash and loves to explore the nooks and crannies of her neighborhood. She is a great combination of calm in the home and energetic when she's out and about. Because of her rough start, Ella does have trouble trusting new dogs, though she has been fully integrated in her foster family's "dog pack." With some gentle but firm leadership from her people, Ella's fear can be managed, and over time, with consistency and patience, we expect that Ella can become confident and more self-assured with other dogs. Ella is crate trained and house trained, and has already picked up on sit, come, and name recall. At a year and half old as of October 2015, Ella is at a great age to start her life with her forever family. And at 12 pounds full grown, Ella is a perfect size for almost any living situation. With her deep bark, muscular frame, and bowed-out front legs, we believe Ella is a chihuahua/french bulldog mix. She is so muscular, her foster family affectionately calls her "Rhonda Rousey." If you are interested in meeting Ella, please fill out an adoption application and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less
