Life can be fast paced and some dogs just don't want to miss out on anything! Meet 2-year-old Kodiak, an adorable terrier mix who came to TRD from the Humane Society of Imperial County, where he was a resident for 4 long months before coming to San Diego to join the TRD crew. It's hard to understand why this cool and compact guy wasn't snatched up! Fun and friendly, Kodiak thoroughly enjoy walks and hikes with his human friends. Kodiak also loves going to the dog park for a good romp with his canine buddies. Kodiak is great with commands and can sit and come by name recognition. His trainability shows his intelligence and eagerness to work with his owner to learn new things. More great news--he’s house AND crate trained! Kodiak spends up to 6 hours in a crate up to 4 days a week without issue and takes comfort in "his space". He can also be a cuddle buddy on the couch or in bed if you prefer. While he hasn't been around children or cats, he is around dogs regularly and has exhibited all signs of a dog with great social skills. He can keep himself occupied with his puppy-like love for toys like kongs or ropes. This guy loves toys of all shapes and sizes! At 18 pounds, Kodiak is the perfect size for most living conditions. There is a lot to be happy about when you're getting walked 4 times a day! Practice makes perfect and Cupcake, a 1-year-old female terrier mix, is beginning to walk like the best of them! She loves to be outside and has been fortunate for her numerous walks and her outdoor activities (parks, hikes, beaches) on the weekends. Cupcake is a slight sidewinder on the leash, but only because she relishes her time to explore. She is straightening out more and more during her strolls and is so gentle when meeting strangers they often compliment her on her sweet demeanor. Cupcake hasn't been around children of cats, but judging by her interaction with strangers, she might be just fine with both. Her exploring includes inside her foster home too as she curiously follows her fosters around the house. She knows it's only a matter of time before she gets one of her two favorite things; a belly rub or time resting on her foster's lap. She eats twice a day and drinks her water lying on her belly with her head in the bowl. She obviously likes to be unique! What's not unique is her common dog fetish for shoes--they look tasty to her so be careful! When the sun goes down, Cupcake sleeps either on her dog bed in the living room or from time to time in her crate. Potty trained in just days, Cupcake is house trained and ready to go. She will make a fantastic addition to your family! If you would like to meet Cupcake, please fill out an application o the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to set up a meet and greet. show less

Sweet and super cute, Penny came to TRD from Humane Society of Imperial County, where she was taken in as a stray. Penny is an adoring 7 month old Boston terrier/Aussie mix who doesn’t yet understand the concept of a leisurely walk, but she is getting there! It takes every dog a little bit of time to learn how to walk on a leash, and Penny is no different. With more practice she will soon be on her way to the wonderful mental and physical benefits of walks with her owner. Luckily, Penny already has mastered one of the most important traits we look for in a dog: playing well with others. Penny behaves wonderfully with other dogs and is thrilled when she gets a chance to run around with new friends. Even better, she is great with new people and children. When she isn't with others she finds a great deal of joy with some of her favorite toys: kongs, nylabones, and rope toys. We all know "a tired dog is a happy dog" and Penny sneaks in naps when her puppy energy fades. She can snooze in bed with you, on her dog bed, or in her crate (which she has done overnight on numerous occasions). She hasn't quite mastered her crate training yet, but is doing a fantastic job and continuously improving. She is also learning to respect general boundaries (e.g., not jumping on people to greet them). Maybe you can be the one to help Penny reach her full potential! Penny’s 23-pound frame is a manageable size for most households seeking to practice new commands and reinforce the ones she already knows. Penny is seeking a permanent home and for someone to embrace her affectionate and loyal personality. If you would like to meet Penny, please fill out the TRD application online and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Beautiful Tera is a striking malamute/husky mix who came to TRD from a military family who was deploying and couldn't take Tera with them. Typical of her breeds, Tera is highly intelligent and seemed to understand that something wasn't right. It's taken her a little while to adjust to her new situation, but she seems to be settling in well with her foster and gaining confidence and trust in people. Tera is sensitive at first to touch with new people, but she quickly warms up and asks for affection and pets. She lived in a home with other pets, including dogs, but she seems to be selective about her canine friends. She walks well on a leash but can be reactive to other dogs when she's out and about. This is an issue that can be corrected easily with training and consistent behavior from her walker. Tera is a beautiful dog who turns heads wherever she goes. At three years old she is about 50 pounds, but she could stand to gain 15 to 20 pounds more to fill out her frame. Tera is crate trained and housetrained. She has a medium energy level and settles down really well after a little exercise. She likes laying in the middle of a room with her people, stretching out her long legs in every direction, sometimes while on her back! Also true to her breeds, she doesn't bark but "talks" and sometimes "sings". However, she is very discriminating about when she speaks up. She is not a noisy dog at all. It appears that Tera did not receive much in the way of training as a young dog, but she is certainly up for the challenge now. She is smart and motivated more by affection than food. An understanding of and experience with her breeds will be helpful in training Tera. She is a gem of a dog, looking for the perfect forever family. If you would like to meet Tera, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will contact you to schedule a meet and greet. show less
