It's not often that we can boast having such a perfect everywhere-dog in our ranks of adoptables! Little Miss Eos is the complete package: roughly 30lbs, active, very social, and full of personality. She's up for anything and ready for action. This spunky girl loves the beach, running next to the bike, spending time with some canine friends, and snuggling on the couch. She loves floppy toys and we just can't stop watching her chase them around with her unique prancing gait! Eos loves the company of other dogs and would thrive in a home with nearly any canine companion or regular trips to the dog park. Eos came to us as a stray who was picked up in very rough shape. Her patchy coat, visible ribs, and overgrown nails are a thing of the past now; after a few weeks of high-quality food and TLC her fur has regrown into a surprisingly soft low-maintenance coat and she's evened out at a perfect 30lbs. While in her foster home, Eos is working on crate training, basic obedience, reliable potty training (she's almost there!), and confidence building while meeting new people. She can be initially shy of an unfamiliar person, but she's warms up quickly and every new meeting is a little less reserved than the last. To meet this little charmer, please fill out an Adoption Application! show less

When our Volunteer Coordinator saw a photo of LT in the shelter, she knew she had to save her - LT ("Little Thea") looks like a mini version of our Volunteer Coordinator's own dog, Thea! Our sweet petite LT weighs in at about 30 lbs and at 1 year old, she is fully grown though she will fill out a little. LT has been such a great dog in her foster home - she knows commands sit, wait, down and is housetrained, gets along with the other dogs, does well at the dog park, loves to interact with every person she meets, plays appropriately, is relaxed in the evenings, does not bark very much, takes treats gently... the list could go on! LT can be on the shy side when you first meet her, but she warms up quickly and wants nothing more than to please her people. LT is great on a leash and would make a great walking/running partner. LT is an easy to train pup that responds to gentle coaxing and is responsive to praise, affection and love - she is a perfect family pup. She has been caught snuggling with a few pieces of clean laundry, and she knows the difference between toys and clothes - she loves her stuffed animals! LT makes weekly trips to the dog park and has a blast - this girl is just fantastic! If you'd like to meet LT, please fill out and Adoption Application. show less

Hero and her ~2 week old litter came to us from San Bernardino City Animal Control. The original owners were over their city dog limit and were forced to surrender the chihuahua family. Unfortunately, the original owners did not leave the mother’s name, age, or even the date when the puppies were born. Having been surrendered to a kill shelter with teeny tiny babies to care for, we could only come up for one name for our chihuahua mother, Hero and a Hero she has been! For the past 6 weeks, the Hero family has been well socialized with people, especially kids. The neighborhood kids come over daily to visit and play with the puppies. At 8 weeks old, the puppies range between 2-5 lbs and we expect these chihuahua/beagle mixes (best guess) to end up at no more than 20lbs, the perfect size for any home! Momma Hero is smart, playful. and very friendly, giving these pups a great role model as they grow. While each pup has it's own distinct personality, the whole litter is curious, friendly, sweet and ADORABLE! All puppies are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. their adoption fee is $350. Viola has some of the best markings we have ever seen on a pup, with her white toes and white ring on her snout! This little girl is the most active and adventurous out of the litter. As evident by her pictures, Viola is always on the go! We would love to see her go to a home with another dog to play with, as her favorite activity is wrestling, tumbling, and running with her siblings. If you would like to meet Viola (aka Vivacious Vi), please fill out an application at: show less

He tends to be a mama’s boy, very sweet temperament, and easy going. His nickname is “Sweet Orlando,” which is every so true. When Orlando isn’t running around with his siblings, he wants to be in your lap, cuddling. Orlando is one of the sweetest puppies we have ever met. Are you looking for a fun and affectionate friend to join you for walks and other adventures? Meet Simon! Simon has a sad story with a happy ending. When The Rescued Dog saved him, he had bite marks all over his hind quarters. Because of these injuries and his unknown reaction to the trauma, he was labeled "rescue only" by the shelter. Thankfully TRD saw his potential and snatched him up. The good news is that Simon has not shown any ill effects from his injuries, either physically or mentally. He's a great example of canine resiliency. His wounds are all but healed and it has taken him no time at all to warm up to his foster family, which includes an alpha-type canine brother. He is active and goofy, and loves a good long walk or a romp at the park. Simon also has some amazing ups! He would be a fun guy to try on an agility course. Simon is friendly with both people and dogs. He has great recall at the park, and is also learning his basic commands, including come and off. And when it comes time to settle down, Simon is a champion cuddler. He is also housebroken and crate trained. And did we mention he's adorable? What's not to love about this guy? Simon weighs in at around 15 pounds, which is a great size for any living condition. And at 2 years young, he is the perfect age to continue basic training. If you are interested in meeting this lovable, huggable guy, please fill out an adoption application at: show less

Sheldon is an adorable beagle mix looking for someone to snuggle with! This affectionate guy LOVES his people. He is also very friendly with his dog foster sibling, and seems to accept other dogs into his pack after a warm up period. Sheldon has not had one accident in his foster home since arriving from Devore shelter. He is also almost completely crate trained, and sleeps through the night in his crate. Sheldon is working on his basic training and already knows sit and shake. He is a gentle treat taker and seems to be both affection and food motivated. At 8 months old as of August 2014, Sheldon is a great age for learning obedience and tricks and well as bonding with his forever family. Could that be you? Sheldon is approximately 12-15 pounds at 8 months old. He may put on a few more pounds before he is full grown, but we don't think he will get above 20 pounds. Sheldon walks very well on the leash, but does have some leash reactivity when he sees other dogs. This is an issue that is easily addressed with some basic training, and The Rescued Dog will a provide complimentary training session for Sheldon's adopter to get you on the right track. If you are interesting in meeting Sheldon, please visit our website and fill out an application at: http://therescueddog.org/available-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ show less

If you're looking for a smart, affectionate, highly-trainable, active companion, Bronco is your guy! Bronco is a two year old red heeler who was turned into the shelter because his owners could no longer care for him. He is fairly typical of an adult male cattle dog, active and driven, while a little reserved with new people and very sensitive to his handler. He is fully crate trained, potty trained and knows basic obedience. (He's working now on perfecting his 'shake' and 'bang!' tricks!) Because his former life was as a backyard dog, he is also working hard on focusing on his handler instead of other distractions while on walks. His foster home reports that he is a quick study and loves learning new things, as well as the best snuggler they've ever had. His adorable bounce when he sees the leash come out is quite the sight to see! Bronco is currently living with two other high energy dogs, and could be successfully trained to live with cats. We would love to see Bronco go to a forever home with people who love seeing their dog learn and grow, as this guy is proving himself to be an amazing companion in a nurturing environment! While we would prefer that Bronco's forever family be experienced with herding breeds, the most important components are strong leadership skills and a love of working with your dog. Bronco comes with one complimentary session from our trainer to help him continue to adjust to city life in a new home. Bronco is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations.
