"A little ditty about Jack and Diane..." Puppy siblings Jack and Diane came to TRD when one of our rescue friends saw them and their siblings being given away "for free" at a vet's office in El Centro. They were just four weeks old at the time. Thankfully we were able to intervene and snatch up Jack and Diane before they fell into the wrong hands. (Another rescue rescued the other pups in the litter.) The previous owners told us that Dad is an American Bully and Mom is an English Bulldog/Bull Terrier mix. Fast forward five weeks and Jack and Diane are fully healthy and happy, rolly-polly puppies living the dream in San Diego while they patiently wait for their forever homes. Diane is extremely smart and a very quick learner. She is an affectionate sweetie, and her tail never stops wagging. It's hard to say exactly how big they will be when they will be full-grown, but a good estimate is in the 40 to 55 pound range. Jack and Diane are 9 weeks old as of mid-May and currently weigh around 12 pounds. They get along with other dogs and have been working on their potty training. They are smart little pups and should get the hang of it quickly. If you would like to meet Jack or Diane, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Introducing Cooper- the mostly sweet, playful beagle with a tablespoon of manly bravado. Cooper is a complete ladies’ man- swooning them with his longing puppy eyes and swagger you can’t resist. Cooper came to TRD in April 2017 through owner relinquishment. Cooper turned 3 in April and weighs about 34 pounds. He hasn’t had much training until he came to TRD- his foster parents are teaching him manners & commands and Cooper has been a champion student. He has already mastered ‘sit’, ‘come’ and has excellent name recall. Cooper, despite his distracted beagle genes, is good on the leash. Currently, he can still bark at objects that scare him, but with more training he can be perfect with his leash manners. Cooper will be a good fit for an active family. He loves to run in the baseball field near his foster home and runs about a mile around the baseball field every morning and evening. This has been a great regimen for him as he needs to shed a few pounds to achieve his target weight. His forever family should continue the exercise to keep Cooper’s weight in check. Cooper is super crate trained. His crate is his safe space and he spends time in there on his own when he needs a break from things. Around 9pm every night, he retires into the crate on his own even when his humans are finishing chores elsewhere. Cooper tends to beg for food when his humans eat, but with training and positive reinforcement he is getting over this habit. Cooper is friendly with his fido-friends and likes to play/run around the yard with them. Cooper at 3 years of age, is over his puppy behavior and has a more calm, mature, independent personality. He has a playful, rompy side as well when his humans play with him. He spends 8-9 hours through weekdays in a sun room by himself. He is good when his humans leave for work and sleeps all day without a bother. He will be perfect for a family with full-time work hours during weekdays. We think Cooper would be best with children 12 and over. With all the good qualities he has, and that dashing beagle personality- Cooper will be a great addition to any family looking for a fur-baby. Meet Valentino! He and his brother Amadeo were born on Valentine's Day to our beautiful yellow lab mom Venus. Amadeo and Valentino were the only survivors in a litter of nine. Venus did not get any care during her pregnancy and by the time TRD stepped in to rescue her and her unborn pups, she was ready to deliver. We are thankful to have saved Venus and her adorable boys. Venus is a beautiful, well-tempered yellow lab and the puppies' pop is--a mystery! Amadeo has a soft, fluffy, tricolored coat while Valentino's is more on the scruffy side and two-toned black and white. Both pups are fun and playful, and love wrestling with each other in typical puppy fashion. Because we don't know who dad was, we can't be sure what they will be like physically as adults, but we know they will be big! Both pups weighed in at around 12 pounds at 9 weeks old. We think they will be large (into the 70-80 range) as adults. If you are looking to train up a puppy from the start, these guys will be fun. They are already getting the hang of potty training and seem to respond to their names. And the lab in them will make them fun and faithful companions for the whole family. They are both know to give sweet puppy kisses, and they always greet their foster mom with wags and attention. They will be great, people-oriented pups. When Valentino was born, he appeared to have some balance issues. We had him checked by a neurologist to make sure he was OK and he has received a clean bill of health. He still displays balance issues from time to time however. We like to think of it as part of his unique charm! Attention Pug Lovers! Meet Kevin, a six-month old cuddly and ridiculously cute pug! Kevin came to us from the Imperial County Shelter in April 2017. He currently weighs around 10 pounds and we think he will be about 20 pound full grown, which is a great size for all living arrangements. Within a short few weeks in his foster home, Kevin is already crate trained and almost house trained. He is a typical playful puppy, combined with the friendly temperament of a pug. He gets along well with other dogs in his foster home and loves to play inside the home or run around the yard with his foster siblings. He is energetic during play-time but quickly settles down when it’s time for a nap or when his humans are otherwise occupied. Kevin has been well mannered on walks too--he walks calmly, does not pull the leash, and is not too reactive to things around him. Kevin, like any other pug, loves to be petted by his humans. Kevin has his share of puppy antics--he occasionally moves and chews shoes if left out. His foster mom is working on this currently, along with teaching him some basic commands. Kevin is a great fit for any family looking to add a pug or any loving friendly Fido to their pack. If you would like to meet Kevin, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and great. show less

Beautiful Shadow was originally rescued a couple of years ago off the streets of Julian by a good Samaritan, who intended to work with Shadow. His life took an unexpected turn and he could not give Shadow all the attention and training she needed. He did care for her and give her shelter, food, and love. He asked TRD to help with her and give her a better life. When we first met her, she was cagy and unsure of people, but she warmed up quickly in the presence of other dogs. Shadow is shy with new people, and has not yet accepted leash training. She prefers to be with other dogs and really warms up to both dogs and people with dogs quickly. She is smart and sporty and has a goofy and mischievous side once she relaxes. Once she gets comfortable with a person, she accepts affection and asks for snuggles. She also shamelessly snuggles with her canine foster siblings. Shadow is about 3 years old and weighs about 40 pounds. She is a real looker! She loves a good romp through the woods where she is being fostered and is good at sticking with the pack when she is off leash, but because she doesn't accept the leash she isn't ready for traditional walks. She will need a family who will be patient with her and work with her on her leash training. She is totally house trained and likes having a crate set up in her home so she can have a little hideaway. If you would like to meet Shadow, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch. show less

Tiberius, aka Captain Kirk, is about as typical as you can get for a lab puppy. This fun little guy was surrendered to TRD when his owners realized that they weren't cut out to be puppy parents. Their loss is our gain, as adorable Tiberius keeps us all laughing with his silly puppy antics. He loves his dog toys, and if one isn't handy, he will settle for a shoe, a purse, or anything else nearby. His foster mom is working on that with him! Tiberius is very playful and loves a good romp with his canine foster brother. He is a little too interested in the resident cat, and he doesn't seem to take the hint when she's not happy with him, so we recommend a home with no kitties. Other than that, Tiberius is pretty smart, and in a short time with his foster family has already learned sit and shake. He has also mastered crate training, and is nearly perfect with his house training.Tiberius is pretty independent and is able to entertain himself when his humans are busy. He is a lovable, huggable guy though, and definitely values quality time with his human pals. Tiberius is already a big guy at 4 months old as of April 2017. We believe he will be on the bigger side for a lab when he's full grown, in the 70 to 80 pound range. Because of his size and his puppy ways, we think he would do best with older children. This fun guy is definitely a diamond in the "ruff" looking for a fun-loving, active family who will make him a true member of the pack. If you would like to meet Tiberius, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Sweet Autumn has had a tough start to life, but we are hoping to give her the happy ending she deserves. Autumn has been severely neglected her whole life. She was adopted as a young pup and almost immediately relegated to her owners' backyard, where she spent all of her time, alone and neglected. During her first 5 years she was fed a poor diet of mostly human scraps, and was not given basic vet care. Over time, Autumn developed both severe ear infections and diabetes. Thankfully, a good Samaritan recognized Autumn's dire situation and convinced her owners to relinquish her so that she could get the care and love she so deserves. Autumn's original rescuer reached out to TRD for help when her medical bills became overwhelming. (If you would like to support Autumn's original rescuer, please visit her GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/6e-autumns-medical-fund.) We heard Autumn's story, and saw her adorable face, and knew we had to help. Autumn is about 5 years old as of January 2017, and we are happy to report that she is in good health and finally at a healthy and stable weight at around 25 pounds. Autumn has a wonderful loving temperament. It's hard to believe given her story that she would like people at all, but she seems to relish in human company. She is happy to go for a nice walk or to snooze by her human friends' sides. She has a little get-up-and-go, and sometimes seems very puppy-like. Autumn lives with another dog and does fine with him, but she does not need canine companionship to be happy. She is really human-focused. Autumn is on a very manageable insulin regimen. It's still not clear if she will need insulin for the rest of her life or if her diabetes will continue to regulate with her improved health. Autumn also has some hip dysplasia. She manages just fine with this issue and it does not slow her down at all. Autumn's health issues have completely stabilized, and you would never know that she had such a dismal life up until a few months ago. Autumn is a shining example of the resiliency and spirit of dogs. If you would like to provide Autumn with the happy ending she deserves, please fill out an adoption application for Autumn on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Extra small, energetic, unique, playful with a super funny personality—if these are qualities you are looking for in search of your forever pup, look no further than Uno! Little Uno was found as a stray at only 10 weeks old with no litter mates or mama dog in site. With only one ear there’s the possibility he was dumped from the litter by his owner for this birth defect. We think his one ear gives him a whole bunch of character! This goofy guy is now almost 16 weeks and is happy and healthy with hysterical spurts of puppy energy. Uno has learned a lot from his canine foster sister and is getting the hang of potty training as well as socialization and dog manners. Uno still has some puppy stages to get through like teething and perfecting house training, but he seems motivated and eager to please. He loves to be with his people and is a little shadow to his foster family. Uno gets along with dogs, cats and kids. We suggest a family without babies or toddlers due to his very small size and his current puppy teething/chewing stage. He would be very comfortable and enjoy another canine companion, but doesn’t require this as long as he gets plenty interaction and play time with his family. Uno’s missing ear is the result of a birth defect and was examined under anesthesia by our vet. There is a small ear canal and ear drum but we don’t think he can hear from this ear. He seems to hear fine from his developed ear, and has the cutest head tilt when figuring out where sounds are coming from! Uno should be treated as normal by a vet and be watched for the normal issues that can happen with any ear, such as ear infections. Uno is crate trained when his foster family is out. His foster mom says they absolutely adore him and love his spunky, goofy nature packed into his energetic 3.3 pound body! They say when he’s taking a break from playing he’s a professional snuggler—his favorite spot is curling up on someone’s shoulder or neck on the couch. He’s a playful, social guy that would love to be an inclusive member of an active, loving family. show less
