Nora is an affectionate little black Chihuahua and Corgi mix, probably between 2 and 3 years old, with a white chest blaze and a bobbed tail. Weighing around 14 lbs., she loves to snuggle, is happy to hang out in her kennel when she wants alone time, is curious to watch out the window when going on car rides, and is well-behaved on leash when walking with her foster home’s two larger dogs. This girl especially loves attention from her foster mom and is always happy to be carried around with the people she has bonded with. She's been really great with children; her foster parents say that over the Christmas holidays she delighted the visiting grandchildren with her playful ways. Nora is easy to have in a home. She has not shown any destructive behavior. Even though her favorite kennel companion is any one of her foster mom’s sneakers, she does not chew items she should not. She is a pretty quiet dog as well. While she occasionally barks, and sometimes even seems to talk, she is not an incessant noise maker. Her foster parents also note that they enjoy her adorable way of dancing for treats. Being alert and curious - and very treat-motivated - the consensus is that she should be an easy dog to train. Nora already comes whenever her foster mom calls her by name, is crate trained and is almost house trained. While Nora gets along well with the other larger dogs in her foster home, she seems to enjoy being the center of attention and would be just fine if she was the only dog in the house. If you would like to meet Nora, who is already spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on her vaccinations, please fill out an Adoption Form at The Rescued Dog website. show less

Oh my goodness - three fabulous little girl puppies were found abandoned in a field and they are the most human-friendly little babies ever. They were scared but wanted to be with people so much. One of the rescuers daughter's named them after the latest Charlie's Angels - Alex, Natalie and Dylan - because they had so much spunk and heart. As far as we can tell, these girls seem to be a hound-mix, quite mellow, and may even have Great Dane in them, too, according to one their foster's personal assessments of their attributes. Tiny now, but possibly may well grow to be big dogs. But not to worry - they seem to be dogs who can give you some needed exercise and then sleep quietly and relax in their home. How perfect for their owners. These three girls - Dylan, Alex and Natalie - are around 19 pounds now at four months old and are expected to possibly get up to 50+ lbs. at full grown. Right now they are just puppies who are very smart and ready to be trained by a loving family. All love dogs and children, snuggle up on the couch, and are behaving well on leash walks. Natalie loves running laps and wrestling with her canine siblings in her foster home's backyard, and has just begun her daily leashed walk around the neighborhood. But this girl is happy entertaining herself with all the available doggy toys at home, too. With her inquisitive nature, though, her favorite activities are following her canine brother around like a little shadow, and watching whatever people going by are up to. Curious about everything, she does take a break from exploring by just nestling in on the couch with her foster mom. She is the best of her breeds - playful but calm and snuggly, too. Who wouldn't find her a perfect pet? show less

Don't say this girl doesn't have confidence! She has no fear and would be great with another dog at home. She is also good with children and would enjoy having them as playmates as well. Alex has a very loving nature and will just lay calmly next to her foster mom wherever she’s sitting. Her foster family says Alex walks calmly by your side on leash, is good at name recall, and is beginning to master crate and house training. This sweet baby has captured her foster family's heart, but truly needs a forever home. show less

Adorable Franklin came to us from San Bernardino County as a stray. Franklin is a great combination of active and fun, but also snuggly and content to settle down. Franklin loves a good game of fetch and also enjoys long walks. Once he's gotten his exercise in, he is happy to settle in and relax with his foster family. Franklin is something of a ladies' man, and really likes meeting new people, especially women. He has shown some wariness of men and children, but he is working on making friends with all types of humans in his foster home, and it's really paying off. Franklin is crate trained and house trained, and sleeps in his crate through the night. He has some basic skills, like recall and fetch, and would love to learn more basic training skills with his new family. He is a smart little dude, so training him will be easy and fun. Franklin is still learning to greet other dogs politely when he's out for a walk. His new family will want to continue to train him to react appropriately when on leash. He is already getting good training with his foster family, and so his new family will just need to continue to encourage him to keep up what he has already learned. Franklin is a great size at about 13 pounds. At one year old, Franklin is a great age to settle in with his new family and em-"bark" on a lifetime of love and adventures. show less

This handsome boy is Nugget, a 5-month-old who was saved just in the nick of time. Nugget was brought to the pound as a two-week-old puppy with a front leg deformity. Too young to have been separated from his mom, the shelter did not have the resources to bottle feed him and his fate looked grim. Luckily, this little guy was noticed by a visiting rescue worker who was there when he was brought in, and she saved him to be nurtured by a loving foster family. Perfectly able on his three good legs, Nugget is funny, affectionate and smart, and loves to play fetch and go on walks. He is also curious and brave, and anything you are doing, he wants to do, too. Unsure as to what breeds Nugget had in him, his foster parent had a DNA test done and found that he is a Chihuahua/pitbull mix - with the best qualities of both breeds, funny, playful smart pitbull, affectionate companion chihuahua wrapped in a cute 6 lb. package. He will always be a small dog, probably growing up to be about 15 lbs. Wonderful around children, adults and other dogs, he is house trained and is eager to learn the rules of a new forever home. He is neutered, microchipped, and will soon be fully vaccinated. If you would like to meet Nugget - please visit our website at www.TheRescuedDog.org and complete and application. show less

Meet Willy! This sweet energetic pup is a JRT/Beagle mix who weighs around 15 pounds! He is one year old, still only a puppy. Willy and his brother Tucker (doxie mix) came from a neglectful situation. Their owner died, and his daughter took over the home and was afraid of dogs. They were left in the backyard for at least a month with limited human interaction. Because of this, Willy attached very quickly to his first foster and developed some separation anxiety. He was transferred to his current foster parents where they established rules and boundaries for him. Willy is now great in his crate, but he needs to be placed in a home with another dog. That way, he will attach to the dog, and not overly attach to the human. Willy will need a home where he is not overly coddled by the human. Willy is also a marker. Neutering has reduced his marking by 75%. His new owner will need to be vigilant to watching him in the house, and making sure that he has one pee spot in the yard. He loves to go out and exercise with his foster family, recently he went off leash on a 9 mile hike and loved it! He responds well to his name, coming when called. He loves being around other dogs. One unique thing about this pup is that he can jump up to 4 feet! He will be a great companion for someone who is active and will take him on hikes and such. Will you be Willy’s new companion? show less

When we saw a scared, timid pup in the corner of the kennel at Devore on her last day, we knew we had to save her. For the first few days in her foster home, she was shutdown and didn't make a single sound, nor a bark, nor a woof, nor a whimper, she would stay out in the yard and try to hide as much as possible - she seemed like a baby bird so she was named Sparrow. In the 30 days that her foster mom has been working with her, Sparrow has transformed into a wonderful loving pup gaining confidence and who loves to play with dogs, enjoys being with people, play fetch and dog parks. In her foster home, she has quickly learned the household routine with the help of her foster dog siblings, who she learned to joyfully play with as part of the pack. Sparrow walks easy on leash, has been a terrific hiking buddy, and true to her spaniel breed, her favorite place is at Fiesta Island running as fast as she can to chase the birds. At the dog park, she loves to play fetch, chase and socialize with the other dogs. Sparrow is a beautiful smart little pup who will quickly settle into a loving home, she is learning basic commands and is completely house trained. At 24 pounds, and almost a year old Sparrow is fully grown and the perfect medium size pup; she rarely barks, does not chew or destroy things, is non aggressive and loves to snuggle up with her humans. She is still a little shy with new people but warms up with time and she has done well around children with her calm energy level, she will thrive on daily activities such as dog park, long walk, hike or Fiesta Island. She does great with other dogs big or small but might do best in a home without a cat. Sparrow is absolutely beautiful, has a joyful happy spirit, and is a delightful pup in every way - if you are interested in meeting her, please visit www.TheRescuedDog.org and complete an application to set up a playdate. show less

Tucker is a playful, energetic dachshund/ chihuahua mix. He is nine months old and he is one loving puppy! Weighing in just under 10 pounds, he is one snuggly pup. He has the biggest puppy eyes you have ever seen, how can you not fall in love with him? Tucker plays well with other dogs, and loves to play with his foster siblings, but when he is tired, he goes and lays on his bed. His foster mom tells us she thinks he could stay in bed all day if no one tried to wake him up. Tucker is a perfect fit for a family who loves their cuddling time because he loves to cuddle and Tucker will sometimes "talk" to you when you first get home or when he is trying to get your attention - So adorable! He's a easily lovable dog. Tucker does not tug or pull while on walks, he either stays at your side a little behind you, maybe because of his tiny legs. Although, he will try and be sneaky by trying chew his way through his leash if your not looking, but all puppies like to chew things sometimes, which is why he would need chew toys. Tucker loves to go on adventures as any other puppy would, but would rather prefer spend most of his time cuddled up on your lap. Above all, Tucker has an amazing, affectionate, and loving personality and is perfect for the families who would love to have a little 'snuggle bug' in the family. Rosalind’s foster mom describes this adorable, six-month-old little girl like this: “Rosie is the best companion anyone could ask for, she is next to me all the time either for cuddles, a ride in the car or to play fetch. Rosie is a great watchdog and lets me know when someone is close by. Rosie is active and spontaneous and is always up for something new. She is also calm and will sit on my lap or my children's laps when we are on the couch. Rosie loves to play fetch, she retrieves the ball like a pro over and over and over, and is willing to play as long as you are!” Rosalind is now ready for a loving forever home, but to get to this place, Rosalind had to face an unexpected and scary challenge. Here’s a bit of her story: When The Rescued Dog saved Rosalind and her siblings at just two weeks old, Rosalind stood out as the most fun-loving and fearless one of the Chihuahua-mix litter. Luckily, all were placed together with a loving foster family who provided for the puppies’ needs for socialization, house manners and nurturing. While the other pups were adopted out as soon as they were old enough, Rosalind had a problem. When Rosie was 4 weeks old, the vets discovered she had a serious heart murmur, which required surgery - and fundraising - to correct. She has now recovered from the procedure and her veterinarian reports that it was a complete success with no further treatment needed. A dog lives in the moment and even with what she’s been through, Rosalind wakes up ready for another fun day knowing she can trust people and is cared about. And while this girl may be tiny at just 5 pounds, she thinks she is Mighty-Dog, wrestling and playing with confidence! Rosalind is completely house trained; crate trained and does very well on leash. She also adores all dogs, big and small, and would be great in a family with children of all ages. At her size and age, she may even do well with cats. If you are interested in meeting Rosalind, please fill out an application at www.TheRescuedDog.org and we can get you out to meet her. show less

Do you need a constant smile in your life? Romeo will provide that smile, free of charge (well, he may ask for some belly rubs in return!). Romeo's original owner bought him off of craigslist when he was 2 months old. Recently, Romeo's original owner lost both of his jobs and found himself on the streets of San Diego. Realizing this was not a good life for poor Romeo, he asked The Rescued Dog to take Romeo and find him a good home. We were slightly hesitant... until we saw his photos. How can you say no to a face like Romeo's?! And boy are we glad we took him - this guy is AWESOME! He turned a year old on July 25, knows "sit" and "down," is VERY treat motivated but takes treats gently, walks fantastically on a front-clip harness, gets along well with other dogs when properly introduced, loves people of all shapes and sizes, is crate trained and is 100% house trained. See, we told you he's awesome! Romeo wins the hearts of everyone he meets - with his half white and half black face, his goofy underbite and smile, and his black polka dots, it's hard not to love him. He loves to play with other dogs, but he'd be fine as an only dog as long has he gets regular outings to romp with his canine companions. Romeo tends to get overly excited when meeting other dogs and people on a leash, but has been through the Zen Dog Training program through Alpine Dog Ranch and the trainer had nothing but great things to say about our boy. Romeo is currently working on his manners while on leash and would benefit from continued training. He would make an amazing running partner as he sticks right by your side! Romeo can get very attached to his family and needs a confident handler to continue his great progress. If you're interested in Romeo, please fill out an Adoption Application today. show less

This charming young gentleman - a beautiful, one-year-old, 52-lb. brindle shepherd mix is just as good as can be - well-mannered, non-aggressive, sociable and quick to learn. Unlike the many other pups we save from the pound, Roscoe was not a stray or given up to a shelter because of any behavioral reason. He had the unfortunate situation of being in the wrong place at the wrong time - the person dog-sitting him got into trouble with the law; Roscoe was confiscated and ended with authorities placing him in the local animal pound. More than a week went by and for reasons we will never know, he was not reclaimed by his family. At the pound, Roscoe developed pneumonia and was one sick pup. Luckily, The Rescued Dog got him out as soon as he was available, quickly got him to the vet and nurtured him back to health again. He is now with a foster dad - with two other dogs in the house - who thinks the world of this guy and says he is friendly, laid-back and sweet, and very little extra trouble at all. Easy-going Roscoe enjoys being active or just chilling out. A friend to all, Roscoe greets everyone he meets, and then does not bother them, but settles in to enjoy the company. Roscoe loves walks and especially playing with other dogs, and, even at his young age, comes whenever he’s called. House trained and very clean, he is already trusted enough in his foster home to have free range of the house. Roscoe would do great in a home with a dog sibling however he does show some cat interest so we would want to avoid homes cats. While naturally very mellow, he still displays a fun-loving adolescent personality and could use a bit of training not to exhibit excited greetings or rush out the door anticipating a walk. Roscoe’s foster parent wishes he could keep this gem, but can’t, so Roscoe really needs a forever home where his sweet nature will be nurtured and appreciated. You can arrange a meeting with Roscoe by filling out an Adoption Form at www.TheRescuedDog.org. show less
