Meet Kira! She is a 1 year old Rat Terrier/Jack Russell mix rescued by TRD in September 2018. Kira is almost full grown at 12 pounds, which makes her ideal for most living situations. According to her foster mom, Kira is a sweet-natured, playful pup who just wants to be by her person's side. She loves to be with people and other dogs. She enjoys laps, snuggles, and cuddles. Kira absolutely adores children! She loves to play chase with them and loves to cuddle with them. Despite her petite size, Kira is very active and energetic. She loves walks, car rides, running, and the beach. She has become a regular at Fiesta Island and has been great off-leash. She gets along great with other dogs and enjoys the big and little dogs at the beach. Kira has great energy and would be a terrific running or hiking partner who can keep up with you. She can also entertain herself with her favorite toys like Kongs, rope and stuffed toys Kira would be a great fit for an active family that can take her to dog parks and on hikes to spend her boundless energy. She will do best in a household with other dogs. After playtime is over, Kira is a great snuggle buddy. She is working on crate training and almost house trained. Her foster family is working on her leash walking skills and basic commands and her adopters will have to continue this training. If you would like to meet this petite little Energizer bunny, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Are you looking for a sweet senior to love on? Meet Sophie, an adorable spaniel mix TRD pulled from Riverside shelter in September 2018. Sophie is about 8 years old and weighs in at 25 pounds. When we first welcomed Sophie to the TRD family, she was not feeling well. She was sluggish and did not have much zest for life. It turns out that Sophie is in the beginning stages of heart failure, and left unmedicated, she felt pretty crummy. Once TRD got Sophie to the vet, we figured out what was going on and got her on the proper medications (which cost about $25 a month). She immediately perked up and her wonderful, loving personality started to shine through. Now Sophie is a big fan of walks, and loves a good car ride. She is social with other dogs, and at the dog park she likes to play, especially with smaller dogs. Sophie is also very contentious about her looks, and really enjoys a good brushing. Her foster mom reports that she is very sweet and calm, and only speaks up when she's hungry or needs to go out to do her business. Now that her medication has been established, Sophie has a lot of love and life left to share. If you would like to meet Sophie, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Look who came zooming into TRD all the way from the County Shelter in Riverside! It's Wally West a.k.a. The Flash. Wally is an 8-month-old dachshund-terrier mix puppy, currently weighing in at 10 pounds. He should be around 20 pounds full grown. Like his namesake, Wally is an ultra-fast puppy with lots of energy. He loves to run and romp around in his foster mom's backyard. He is great with dogs and spends his day wrestling with his canine foster brother. He is also respectful of the cat in his foster home (although given his interest in her initially, we are not sure we'd call him totally "cat friendly"). Like most puppies, Wally loves to play with all toys, including his Kong, bones, and squeaky toys. Being the Flash is hard work, and Wally enjoys long naps after play time. He is already crate trained and sleeps in his crate all night. His foster family is teaching him house training rules and he is making progress everyday. He also knows the Sit command. Wally will be ideal for a family wanting to add a puppy to their pack. He has all the adorable and quirky antics typical to puppies. His forever family will have to continue to train him on house rules and leash training but training this smart puppy should be a fun challenge. If you would like to meet Wally, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet Cruz and his adorably ridiculous under-bite. Cruz is a 1-year-old Boxer-Terrier mix rescued by TRD in October 2018. He is almost full grown and weighs about 30 pounds. Cruz is a smart, sweet-natured, and easy-going puppy. Within a couple of weeks in his foster home, Cruz has mastered most house rules and charmed his foster family with his sweet nature and easy-going personality. And charming people isn’t that hard with his cute face and quirky mannerisms (also, did we mention that under-bite?) Cruz is completely house trained. He understands commands such as Sit, Come, and Fetch. He is also great on the leash. He loves going on walks in his neighborhood and hitting the dog park (he is good with other dogs). Cruz has some learning to do with crate training. He has exhibited separation anxiety when left alone. His foster family is working with the TRD trainer for this behavior and his forever family will need to continue reinforcing his training. Given his age, Cruz is still a puppy minus the trials and tribulations of raising a puppy. He will be a perfect addition to a family looking for a calm and easy-going young dog to adopt. If you would like to meet Cruz, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Meet Cersei, mom of the Game of Thrones puppies. Sweet and petite, Cersei is in the 10 pounds range. Cersei came to TRD very pregnant and gave birth to 8 (!) puppies. Hard to believe her little body could handle 8 puppies, but she did. She was a good mom and gave her puppies a great start. They are now all on their way to their forever homes, and it's time for Cersei to move on to hers! Cersei's foster mom reports that Cersei is super snuggly and loves people. She is also friendly and submissive with the other dogs in her foster home. Cersei is definitely shy and a little unsure of new surroundings and dogs, so slow and gentle introductions with new dogs is a must. Cersei is a young little lady. At only 1 year old, Cersei has not seen much of the world. Her foster mom reports that Cersei does puppy stuff, like chewing on things she shouldn't. Her foster his working on this with her. Cersei also seems new to the leash, although she is taking to it well and really enjoys pack walks with her foster mom and canine foster sister. Cersei would love a family who will work with her on these skills and shower her with the love she deserves. If you would like to meet Cersei, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Despite a rough start, Archie an (approx) 8 month old schnoodle, is one ridiculously happy guy! Archie was found as a stray with a large motor oil burn along his back. He spent over a month in round the clock vet care so doctors could tend to his serious burn. The Rescued Dog took Archie in once released from vet care, during the last portion of his recovery and healing. Archie’s wounds are just about completely healed now, although he will always have a scar on his back. You would never know this boy has been through pain and weeks of medical care. It always amazes us how dogs can recover from trauma and live in the moment. He is just so happy go lucky! His foster mom tells us he’s a total goofball, loves his toys and to play fetch and enjoys his dog friends. She completely adores him! Archie is still working on his potty training and he is almost completely accident free. He is fully crate trained. Archie is also is still in the mouthy puppy stage but is very sensitive to verbal correction. Although he steals the occasional sock or paper, his foster mom reports he has not chewed or destroyed anything in the house. Archie lives with another dog and two kids in his foster home and everyone in the house reports he is a champion snuggler. True to his schnauzer nature, he is a brave and confident boy. However, being young, he presents as cautious and gentle when meeting new dogs and people. He does alert his foster family of things with some barking but is not a constant barker. Archie looks to his canine foster sister for direction, and follows her lead for play and training. He would do well in a multi dog household. He is a smart, curious and highly engaging. This sweet, adorable boy has character, smarts and a wonderful demeanor. If you are interested in meeting Archie please fill out an adoption application. show less

Are you looking for a sweet and sporty guy to keep you company? Meet Asaki, a handsome and fun-loving spaniel mix. According to his foster mom, Asaki is smart and curious. He can be a little shy in new surroundings but warms up once he gets comfortable. Asaki is very playful and sweet, and loves to play fetch and tug-of-war. His foster mom reports that Asaki is not very cuddly, but he loves to stay close and sleep next to his person. When he is out on walks, Asaki is alert and inquisitive. He walks calmly but can be easily distracted by all the fun things out there! Thankfully it is also very easy to redirect his attention. Asaki is calm and friendly when meeting new people, and wants to meet all the new dog friends on his walks. He gets along great with other dogs. Asaki does seem to have some fearfulness around tall men, and is spooked easily by loud noises and sudden movements. These are things the TRD team and his foster mom are working on with him. Asaki is about 2 years old as of September 2018, and weighs in at a svelte 20 pounds. Asaki is house trained and has almost mastered his crate training. Calling all Schnauzer lovers! Meet Alfred Pennyworth aka Alfie--a 10-month-old puppy rescued by TRD from Tijuana. Alfie has had a pretty rough start to this life--he was found by a rescuer in Mexico after he was hit by a car and was in poor shape overall. Alfie was brought to San Diego where he had to undergo surgery to fix his broken pelvis. These days Alfie is living the good life--he is expected to make full recovery and learning to be a puppy with his foster mom and canine siblings. He has a sweet and loving personality with the quirkiest mannerisms. He loves to carry his toys (and sometimes his mom's shoes) all over the house. His favorite toys are ball, rope, and Nylabone. Although he is on sedatives to recover from his surgery, he keeps himself active and busy all day. He loves to meet new people and is immediately smitten with them. He is also great with dogs and even cats! Alfie is crate trained and potty trained. He is picking up new commands and like most schnauzers, he is a pretty smart puppy. On occasion, he chews on inappropriate items around the house but responds well to redirection. He would be a perfect fit for a family looking to add a young, active, and smart dog to the family. If you would like to meet Alfie, please fill out an adoption application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less

Our poor guy Crosley can't seem to catch a break. Crosley first came to TRD about 4 years ago from Devore shelter, and was adopted by a military family. His family loved Crosley very much, but unfortunately after 2 years with Crosley, they were deployed overseas and couldn't take Crosley with them. They returned Crosley to the rescue, and he was adopted quickly (because he's so awesome!) by a TRD supporter, and we were sure this was his forever person. Unfortunately, his adopter fell on hard times and made the tough decision to return Crosley to us after 2 years of being Crosley's person. Although we are sad that poor Crosley can't seem to find his forever family (yet), we love having him back in the fold. He is a funny, silly, lovable guy who will make his next family very happy! Crosley was named after a funny little car from the 50s, and we think the name fits him perfectly! This basset hound mix is about 5.5 years old and full grown at 42 pounds. This charming guy is potty trained and crate trained, and learns new skills quickly. He has also been working his basic commands, and would love to show them off! Crosley has yet to meet a human he doesn't like, welcoming everyone into his space. He loves playing with other dogs, and his goofy run and play are sure to keep you laughing. Sometimes Crosley needs slow introductions with other dogs until he figures out his place in the pack, but he is overall a sociable guy who figures it out. Once he gets attached to his human, he can get some separation anxiety, but it is largely mitigated by crating, which we would encourage his new family to continue. The good news is that he is totally crate trained and loads up in his crate no problem. Crosley is pretty energetic and would love an active family to keep him hopping! He is so easygoing and cheerful that he'd be a delight in nearly any home environment and perfect for anyone looking for a lovable, active companion. As long as he gets some playtime and a nice walk, he's a happy boy! If you think Crosley could be for you, please fill out an application on the TRD website and an adoption coordinator will be in touch to schedule a meet and greet. show less
