Please note, you must be at least 15-years-old to volunteer at Thrive. Occassionally, we have events that children 12-14 can volunteer for but parental supervision is required.
If your volunteer application is approved, you must attend a mandatory orientation/assessment before offically becoming a volunteer. If volunteering at Thrive is not the right fit, we will keep your application on file and contact you for alternate opportunities if needed.
We are located on private property in San Diego, California. Our address will be provided upon confirmation of attendance. Please do not arrive without formal instruction to do so.
What is your age?
Our rescue is located on the top of a relatively steep hill. Attendees are required to walk from the bottom of our parking lot, up to the top of this hill, to access our kennel. Do you foresee any issues navigating this?
We are a relatively small and close-knit non-profit organization that depend on help from our community. If you are interested in working the kennel, walking dogs, or fostering, we need COMMITTED applicants who are able to do so on a regular and consistent basis. If you do not have consistent availability, volunteering for adoption events, field trips, or transportation may be more beneficial. Are you available consistently, or inconsistently?
How would you like to help?
What times are you available to help on a consistent basis?
Please describe any prior experience working with rescue dogs. What is your comfort level interacting with puppies and dogs of all ages, sizes, breeds, and backgrounds?
Are you available to attend an in-person orientation to meet our staff, our dogs, and what to expect prior to beginning and committing to being a volunteer in either a consistent or inconsistent format?
What days are you available to help on a consistent basis?
I understand there are risks and dangers associated with working with wild, feral and domesticated animals, including but not limited to bites, scratches, zoonotic diseases (diseases transmitted from animals to humans), and allergic reactions. I also understand there may be risks involved with exposure to certain chemical cleaning products while performing my volunteer duties. I fully understand and accept those risks and dangers.
I fully assume all risks involved with my volunteer activities, and acknowledge that they are acceptable to me. I agree to use my best judgment in undertaking these activities. I also agree to follow the rules and safety instructions as given by Thrive Animal Rescue employees and volunteers authorized to act in a supervisory capacity.
I agree that I will not sue, prosecute, or in any way make a claim against Thrive Animal Rescue for my injury to me or damage to my property resulting from the negligence or other acts, howsoever caused, by an employee, agent, volunteer or contractor of Thrive Animal Rescue or other people as a result of my volunteer duties.
I fully and forever release and discharge Thrive Animal Rescue from any and all actions, cause of action, claims, liabilities, or demands I have or may have in the future, whether known or unknown, for injury, illness, death or damage arising out of or related in any way to my volunteer duties.
I agree that Thrive Animal Rescue may use my name, and pictures, photographs, or video and/or sound recordings of me on television, on radio, on the internet, in emails, and in stories, news articles, advertisements, or other written or digital materials. I agree that such uses may include education, advocacy, and fundraising. I consent to and authorize, in advance, such use and agree that Thrive Animal Rescue does not have to notify me of such use or provide me with other consideration for such use. I waive any rights of privacy and/or publicity I may have in connection with these uses.
I agree that the rights I am giving up and agreements I am making apply equally to me and to my heirs, successors, assigns, guardians and legal representatives. I agree that none of those individuals may make any claim or take any action that I could not make or take myself.
I agree that this Waiver and Release of Liability protects and is for the benefit of Thrive Animal Rescue of San Diego, and also for its affiliates, and their respective employees, officers, directors, consultants, interns, volunteers, licenses, and all others acting on their behalf. I also agree that I may not make any claim or take any action against any of those affiliates or individuals that I could not make or take against Thrive Animal Rescue itself.
I intend to fully and voluntarily waive any rights I have as described in this Waiver and Release of Liability. To the extent that the legal consideration is required for this Waiver and Release of Liability to be effective, I agree that I have received good, valuable and sufficient consideration by being permitted by Thrive Animal Rescue to provide volunteer service and to receive training and instruction.
I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THIS WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY. I FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENTS AND ACCEPT IT OF MY OWN FREE WILL. If I am under 18 years of age at the time of registration, my parent or legal guardian has completely reviewed this Waiver and Release of Liability, understands and consents to its terms, and authorizes my participation.
I am aware that this is a contract between me and Thrive Animal Rescue and that it waives legal rights that I may have now or in the future and releases Thrive Animal Rescue and others from claim for damages.
Please contact Ana (ana@thriveanimalrescue.com) with any follow-ups, questions, or concerns regarding this application.
