Describe the appearance and behavior of any current pets in the home. (Are they well-mannered, clean, groomed, etc.?)
How are current pets trained and disciplined?
Are they willing/able to train a new dog?
Where will the dog sleep?
Ask to see toys and crate. Did you observe the crate for safety/hazards, such as poor latches?
How will the crate be used and how long will the dog be crated per day?
Did you discuss the importance of use of identification tags and leash/harness for walks or rides in the car?
Is there a fenced in yard?
If applicable, please describe the fence including height(in feet), material, and if there were any safety concerns, such as somewhere a dog could escape or harm themselves.
Describe how dog will be allowed time for exercise and potty breaks outside.
Are dogs left alone in the yard?

Walk the perimeter of the yard/fence. Are there areas where a dog could get over/under by crawling, climbing, or jumping?

Discuss the adjustment period when bringing a new dog into the home, including potential potty accidents, marking, digestive upset, increased flight risk, and stress to other pets. Are they willing and open to dealing with the adjustment period?
How do they plan to introduce the new dog to current dogs? Offer strategies such as introducing on neutral ground, feeding separately at first, diligent leashing, not leaving dogs unattended unless separated.
