CCBC Adoption Contract

I agree to the following: 1. This is a legally binding contract between the adopter signing below and the governing body of Community Cats of Benzie County. I understand that this contract is enforceable by law in the state of Michigan. 2. I promise to provide a home environment with toys, space to play, food and water at all times. 3. I will have a minimum of one wellness veterinary examination and keep the cat current on all vaccines as recommended by my veterinarian. It is estimated that the average annual cost of owning a cat is approximately $500. 4. I will provide a safe environment. I will keep the cat indoors at all times. 5. I understand that all risks of injury or loss caused by the animal after adoption are mine and shall be effective as of the date of this contract. CCBC does not guarantee the health or behavior of the animal. CCBC shall not be held responsible for any loss by injury or damage caused by the adopted animal. 6. I understand that once I adopt this animal, he/she is my responsibility. CCBC assumes no financial responsibility for medical care required by this animal once I take possession of it. I acknowledge that I received medical records for this animal that show the state of health of the animal as of the date of last veterinary exam. I further acknowledge that I will not hold CCBC accountable for any medical issues that occur once I adopt him or her, regardless of the amount of time between the adoption and the medical issue. I acknowledge that I have examined the animal prior to signing this contract and find no signs of injury or illness. 7. The adoption shall be regarded as permanent when I take possession of the animal. In the event the adoption fails, or I can no longer keep the animal, I agree to notify CCBC immediately and to humanely and safely house the animal until CCBC can find another suitable home or until a foster home becomes available. I understand that CCBC cannot guarantee the availability of a foster home. If CCBC cannot secure a foster home, I am responsible for the disposition of the animal. Under no circumstances shall I place the animal in an animal shelter, pet shop, or with another party without the consent of CCBC Under no circumstances may animals be released outside to fend for themselves. 8. I give Community Cats of Benzie County permission to use my name and contact information for their “Friends of Benzie Cats” list. I understand that I may from time to time receive emails or mailed information from CCBC. My information will NOT be shared with any outside entity by Community Cats of Benzie County. 9. By signing this contract, I agree to a home visit within 14 days of signature on this contract. If the home is found to be unsuitable for this cat(s) or if misrepresentations from the application are determined, the cat(s) can be repossessed by CCBC. 10. I understand the adoption fee I have been asked to pay is nonrefundable. 11. CCBC can repossess the cat(s) for failure of the adopter to abide by this contract. By checking "YES" I agree to this legally binding contract with Community Cats of Benzie County.
