Meet Brooks PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE BIO BEFORE APPLYING. WWW.TRACKINGINTHESHADOWS.COM Brooks is a sweet puppy around 5 months old and has a very special story so we are looking for a very special adopter. Must live within an hour or so from Elkhart Indiana. Have a fenced in yard for him to run in and another dog for him to play with would be great! Our rescue focuses on humane trapping for hard to catch or fearful dogs. We got a call about a dog who had been living in the cemetery and shredding flags and wreaths on graves. He was sleeping under bushes and trying to lay against houses for warmth. The nights were getting cold and he was seeking shelter. The people who called us for help had been feeding him for 6-8 weeks but couldn't catch him. Every time they opened their door, he would bolt. We set up the live trap and had him within an hour. He was super scared. Pretty wild and growling. It was clear that it had been some time since he had been around people. I took him home and got him settled in. We spent the next several days hand feeding him and trying to build a bond with him. The first time I tried to leash him, he alligator rolled and screamed like I was hurting him. About five days in I was able to scratch his chin and carry him around. Although touch wasn't his favorite, he allowed it. I was able to get the leash on him around day 6 and once he realized he could go outside and play with the rest of the dogs, it was game over. He has blossomed so fast! Loves to romp in the yard. Play with the dogs. Comes to me for attention and pets and gives me his belly. No longer scared of human touch and interaction. We got him to our vet who determined he is only 5 months old. That puts him at 12-14 weeks old that he must have wandered off from his mom somewhere out in farmland. Brooks probably didn't learn a lot of social skills with other dogs and would benefit from a training class with other dogs to help him develop those social skills. He is right at the prime age for socialization and introducing him to new things. This makes sense with how fast he has come around. I feel that Brooks is ready for his new home. A family that is willing to take him on as a project puppy. Get him continued socialization. Potty train him. Work on what he is and isn't allowed to chew on. He is ALL puppy and a silly, happy and goofy boy. He is just a few months behind on his "home" life. Brooks is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. show less
