About Josie

Josie is part of our bully crew! She is a 4yr old English Bulldog recently rescued from a backyard breeding situation. Since her breeder no longer had any use for her and was looking to give her up, some good folks took her in but were soon overwhelmed by the care she needed. RTR stepped in to give her a new chance at life including vet care and placement in a new foster home. She may have lived outside cranking out puppies her whole life, but that's all in her past now! This sweet, mellow, even-tempered mama bonds quickly with her humans and is a lover of toys. Josie adapted to a life indoors quickly, is fully potty trained and a total pro at fetch. She’s also discovered a love for the ocean and wave chasing! Although being beach adjacent in her next life may be her preference, one thing for sure is that Josie’s next home cannot have stairs, as she does have hip dysplasia. She does get along with other dogs, but tends to get jealous quickly, so would do best as the only dog in her next home. Is this just the gal you’ve been looking for?

Arrow is 6 year old 55lb uniquely beautiful mix of Terrier-Labrador-Husky-Shepherd. She’s spunky, playful and an absolute doll. Arrow was first rescued as a puppy in New York. As a young girl, she and her then caretaker experienced a violent assault, which understandably changed her relationships with new humans moving forward. Many years later Arrow continues to work on overcoming this fear of strangers. Arrow was surrendered in early 2019 when her family found that they were pregnant and faced the decision of putting her down, for fear that no one would adopt a dog with her reactivity. But THE ZEN DOG had already been a large part of Arrow’s life for years and sincerely believed in her power to transform. Now Real Time Rescue is helping Arrow find a new home! Arrow enjoys camping, taking naps in the sun and stuffed animals. Arrow would do best in a home with no kids, a small mellow dog or no dogs at all. She is crate trained and a dream to go walking or hiking with! Because she is fearful of new people, she takes a little time to warm up, but when she does- she’s forever yours. With help from THE ZEN DOG, Arrow is learning to work through her fears and accept new people into her life with less stress. Are you the one to help Arrow brave the world? She’s worth it! THE ZEN DOG will help anyone interested in fostering or adopting Arrow with integrating her into your home- going through the process together step by step to help you build a lasting bond based on respect, trust and love. Dory was rescued from the Carson shelter after being picked up as a stray. This sensitive gal was placed in a foster home by another rescue, but it quickly became clear that she needed more support than just a safe place to land. Lucky for Dory, her foster family has a long history of helping dogs like her and was able to reach out to No Bull Rehab for help! Dory started her journey as a very scared pup and untrusting of people, but we’re happy to report that through extensive training, she is now on the right path for her forever home. She knows all the basics (come, sit, down, place) and walks GREAT on a leash. This is the type of gal you can walk while drinking your morning coffee! She is also great in her crate- doesn’t shred her beds or potty in the house. Although she has been steadily building up her confidence with strangers, Dory still needs time to warm up to her people and is adapting to a life that includes affectionate human touch. While she will enjoy a pat on the head or an ear scratch here and there, she’s not ready for a full snuggle session yet. A quiet lounge on the patio or snooze on the dog cot is her favorite way to spend her downtime with you. Dory’s next home will need to be one with adults only, and no other pets. She is looking for a dedicated, patient person that is committed to reinforcing her training and giving her the time and space to come out of her shell to unleash her full potential. Is that you? Hesse is a majestic 6 year old German Shepherd Dog (GSD), with a heart as great as her courage. In 2017 THE ZEN DOG was contacted by a production company who was unable to film due to the "non-stop barking next door" to their location. Upon investigation the crew found Hesse and her brother confined in crates in a backyard. We arranged to have both dogs stay at the THE ZEN DOG until filming was completed. When the dogs arrived we saw what terrible condition they were in: flea bitten, ears torn, hair falling out, with untreated medical conditions and neglectfully undersocialized, having been left in the yard for the better part of four years. While Hesse's gentle brother was quickly adopted by a former ZEN DOG staff member, our girl needed a very special kind of love, one that would allow her to learn how to trust humans and safely socialize with dogs. Under the direct care of Stef DiOrio, THE ZEN DOG's Manager of Dog Handling, Hesse has bloomed into a sweet, sensitive, incredibly bright and capable companion, for the human who can respect what she needs, will patiently earn her trust, and love her for all of whom she is. Hesse loves walks, car rides, fetch and specialized dog play, which THE ZEN DOG will continue to provide for whomever Hesse's person will be. She's understandly slow to trust but once she locks those deep, loving eyes on you, you're hers for life. We are very excited to meet the human who gets to help Hesse write the happy furever ending to her story. Apply to adopt Hesse at www.realtimerescue.org! show less

We were introduced to 10yo Moose after looking into a message received about a dog in need that was seen chained to a car. He was actually chained to a tree with very little room to move, covered in flies with severe fly strike on both ears. Although he clearly needed our help, he did have an owner. After talking with them about what we could offer him in terms a new home, they gladly surrendered him. So after living 24/7/365 with chickens as his main companions, we're happy to say he is on his way to a better life! He has now been fully vetted, including treatment for the flystrike on his ears and an overdue dental on account of his rock chomping days. While he awaits the right foster match, he will be sleeping indoors with his own cot and clean blankets, enjoying regularly scheduled outside playtime throughout the day. As we learn more about Moose, one thing is clear- he is still learning what it means to be a functioning part of society. As a dog that has lived strictly outdoors with very little human attention and no dog socialization for ten years, we at RTR recognize that his next home will be asked to patiently guide him into this next phase of his life. He will need to be the only dog in the household and preferably based in an area where he wouldn't regularly encounter a large number of other dogs. Currently showing ribs and underweight at around 75lbs, we do expect that with the appetite we are seeing this scrawny senior should be filling out in no time. He is VERY strong and only beginning to know what it means to walk on a leash. He will need a solid routine and a bit of time and forgiveness to help with this, and conquer potty training. Lastly, we are seeking someone who understands that for this sweet, mellow guy, human touch, companionship and exchanging of affections is all brand new and a little awkward.
