About Ice Cream

I scream, you scream, we all LOVE Ice Cream! This sweet freckled face 2yr old girl arrived to us from the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society, where she had ended up as a stray. Before Real Time Rescue scooped her up, she had been in quarantine for months due to a ringworm infection. But now she is free and clear! She can be a bit shy upon meeting new people, but warms up quickly. Ice Cream does best with large, secure mellow dogs, and is looking for an adopter who is a strong leader and motivated to help her grow up to be her best self. We do not yet know how she is behaviorally with cats or children. Ice Cream is currently in a temporary foster home in where she loves her morning runs in the Hollywood Hills! Inquire today for more information on this love bug! Apply to adopt Ice Cream on our website www.realtimerescue.org.

Arrow is 6 year old 55lb uniquely beautiful mix of Terrier-Labrador-Husky-Shepherd. She’s spunky, playful and an absolute doll. Arrow was first rescued as a puppy in New York. As a young girl, she and her then caretaker experienced a violent assault, which understandably changed her relationships with new humans moving forward. Many years later Arrow continues to work on overcoming this fear of strangers. Arrow was surrendered in early 2019 when her family found that they were pregnant and faced the decision of putting her down, for fear that no one would adopt a dog with her reactivity. But THE ZEN DOG had already been a large part of Arrow’s life for years and sincerely believed in her power to transform. Now Real Time Rescue is helping Arrow find a new home! Arrow enjoys camping, taking naps in the sun and stuffed animals. Arrow would do best in a home with no kids, a small mellow dog or no dogs at all. She is crate trained and a dream to go walking or hiking with! Because she is fearful of new people, she takes a little time to warm up, but when she does- she’s forever yours. With help from THE ZEN DOG, Arrow is learning to work through her fears and accept new people into her life with less stress. Are you the one to help Arrow brave the world? She’s worth it! THE ZEN DOG will help anyone interested in fostering or adopting Arrow with integrating her into your home- going through the process together step by step to help you build a lasting bond based on respect, trust and love. Please apply on our website www.realtimerescue.org to meet Cupid’s, Arrow. No doubt you will fall in love! show less

Cher is a gorgeously full figured 7 year old English Bulldog who was surrendered to Real Time Rescue when her owner, a veteran who was suffering from severe PTSD, could no longer care for her. We received a call from our friends at Tazzy Fund asking if we could help this little chunk of love, knowing that we often work with the low income community, which regrettably, commonly includes US veterans. Tazzy Fund explained that this man had been struggling for years with his PTSD and regrettably his mental state had now evolved into a place where he could not properly care for Cher, his beloved companion. Working together with Tazzy Fund, Real Time Rescue took Cher in and immediately placed her in the hands of our trusted trainers, No Bull Rehab, for a complete evaluation. Having lived with her previous owner for her entire life thus far, these were big changes. But we’re happy to report that Cher is thriving and making huge strides each day towards being more confident and sociable. Cher's ideal home would be with adults only. If you’re interested and have pets, she’d do best with the more mellow and quiet types. Cher is crate and potty trained, likes to take short walks on leash and has the biggest wiggle butt in town! She will need a home with no stairs, but an apartment with an elevator OR a single-level home would do her just fine, as long as booty scratches are part of the deal. Dory was rescued from the Carson shelter after being picked up as a stray. This sensitive gal was placed in a foster home by another rescue, but it quickly became clear that she needed more support than just a safe place to land. Lucky for Dory, her foster family has a long history of helping dogs like her and was able to reach out to No Bull Rehab for help! Dory started her journey as a very scared pup and untrusting of people, but we’re happy to report that through extensive training, she is now on the right path for her forever home. She knows all the basics (come, sit, down, place) and walks GREAT on a leash. This is the type of gal you can walk while drinking your morning coffee! She is also great in her crate- doesn’t shred her beds or potty in the house. Although she has been steadily building up her confidence with strangers, Dory still needs time to warm up to her people and is adapting to a life that includes affectionate human touch. While she will enjoy a pat on the head or an ear scratch here and there, she’s not ready for a full snuggle session yet. A quiet lounge on the patio or snooze on the dog cot is her favorite way to spend her downtime with you. Dory’s next home will need to be one with adults only, and no other pets. She is looking for a dedicated, patient person that is committed to reinforcing her training and giving her the time and space to come out of her shell to unleash her full potential. Is that you? Hesse is a majestic 6 year old German Shepherd Dog (GSD), with a heart as great as her courage. In 2017 THE ZEN DOG was contacted by a production company who was unable to film due to the "non-stop barking next door" to their location. Upon investigation the crew found Hesse and her brother confined in crates in a backyard. We arranged to have both dogs stay at the THE ZEN DOG until filming was completed. When the dogs arrived we saw what terrible condition they were in: flea bitten, ears torn, hair falling out, with untreated medical conditions and neglectfully undersocialized, having been left in the yard for the better part of four years. While Hesse's gentle brother was quickly adopted by a former ZEN DOG staff member, our girl needed a very special kind of love, one that would allow her to learn how to trust humans and safely socialize with dogs. Under the direct care of Stef DiOrio, THE ZEN DOG's Manager of Dog Handling, Hesse has bloomed into a sweet, sensitive, incredibly bright and capable companion, for the human who can respect what she needs, will patiently earn her trust, and love her for all of whom she is. Hesse loves walks, car rides, fetch and specialized dog play, which THE ZEN DOG will continue to provide for whomever Hesse's person will be. She's understandly slow to trust but once she locks those deep, loving eyes on you, you're hers for life. We are very excited to meet the human who gets to help Hesse write the happy furever ending to her story. Apply to adopt Hesse at www.realtimerescue.org! show less

Approaching 11 years old, but still spunky, Daisy is a 60lb German Shepard, Boxer mix with soft eyes and silly sweet bottom teeth who was surrendered to the Morongo Basin Humane Society in Joshua Tree. During her almost 2 year stay, she succumbed to kennel stress and after spending most of her time in isolation, lost many of her social skills. But you can hardly blame her for that. After being assessed at THE ZEN DOG by experienced handlers who focused on her socialization with other dogs, it’s safe to say that Daisy is a Respectable Lady that prefers to be the only animal in the home & is very receptive to human direction. Daisy would do great with a couple or single person, with no other pets in the home. If a family is interested, she would prefer to be with kids over the age of 15. Daisy is crate trained and has the ability to walk by other dogs with predictable and manageable levels of reactivity when she is connected to her human. She enjoys the simple things in life like pausing to watch a beautiful sunset while gently sniffing the evening breeze and then coming home to sit next to you while you both watch JeopardyShe deserves to spend her last few years in a home full of love and kindness. THE ZEN DOG will help anyone interested in fostering or adopting Daisy with integrating her into your home, taking the process together step by step helping you build a bond of respect, trust, and love. Honey is a 6.5 year old 55lb Ridgeback mix with a gentle and sensitive soul. Honey was initially rescued from severe abuse when found bound by her legs, being dragged behind a car. Because of this, Honey grew up extremely fearful and is still working through this unspeakable trauma. Despite these circumstances, Honey continues to build confidence, independence and socialize with other dogs to help let go of her past. You may recognize Honey from Dog: Impossible on Nat Geo WILD. Her original caretaker had rescued her directly from the shelter in San Diego and raised her on her own for many years. She was able to nurse Honey back to health and show her what it meant to be loved unconditionally. However, when she married things took a turn for Honey, who became jealous, possessive and lashed out at her husband. Although THE ZEN DOG was able offer ways to re-balance the family’s relationships, when they announced they had a baby on the way in late 2019, everyone knew major changes needed to be made and quickly; the risk of adding a baby into the dynamic was too great, even with the progress made. Honey was surrendered to THE ZEN DOG and is now in Real Time Rescue’s care to help her find a new home. She would do best with a couple - or a single person - equally dedicated to her care. Honey gets along best with large, male dogs, loves walks, essential oils and sunbathing! THE ZEN DOG will help anyone interested in fostering or adopting Honey with integrating her into your home- going through the process together step by step to help you build a lasting bond based on respect, trust and love.
