About Haley

Haley is a female Chihuahua, 4-5 years of age and weighs 8.5 pounds.  She and a pup, that appeared to be from her last litter, was picked up stray and brought to the San Marcos Animal Care.  Her second day in the facility, Haley delivered 3 puppies.  We were contacted by the facility and ask if we would take her in, but she was heartworm positive.  We immediately picked them up.  She was a very protective mom, but a very good mom. Haley's pups are now adopted and Haley is in the last week of heartworm treatment.   Since her puppies have left, her personality has changed.  She is loving, attention seeking, and loves to sit in laps and sleep in her kennel.    She would do well with older children.  Would NOT be a dog good around small children.  She is housebroken and walks on a leash.  She does well with other dogs and most likely ok with cats, but squirrels are in danger.  We visited a petshop and she enjoyed the attention and treats that were offered.  Haley has been heartworm treated, spayed, microchipped, and up to date with all vaccinations.   Her adoption fee is $200. Effie is nothing short of a miracle! She is a senior (age is not known) female dog that came to PPR from San Antonio ACS, where she was received on 9/1/2018, after being hit by a car. She had fractures of both legs, pelvis, hip and tail. She was unable to walk. Her eyes were so dry she could barely open and close them and we were told she was most likely blind. Her overall health was so bad, she had to be syringe fed at ACS. It was unknown if she would survive. PPR decided that Effie had been in ACS for 14 days and we needed to do our best to at least make her last days comfortable, in a loving environment, free of pain and gentle care. After a year, Effie defied all odds and not only lived, but can walk and trot, climb stairs, play with dogs and all without pain. She can see, vision is diminished, but she can definitely get around without running into things. She explores the backyard without any difficulty. She is very vocal when time to eat and will let you know she is HUNGRY NOW! She has a very good sense of humor and can make you laugh. She is housebroken, likes to play with other dogs, and would not bother cats. She is very easy to take care of, because she sleeps most of the day. Effie is spayed, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccinations, recent dental and microchipped. She is now ready for a real home and her own people.
