My Story This darling, sweet natured guy is Bailey. (Get it? Beagle Bailey) He is a little over a year old, about knee high and is about the bestest boy ever. His former owners didn't bother to take care of him and when they found out he was heartworm positive they dumped him in a high-kill shelter and walked away. His soulful eyes and sweet personality was evident even through the bars of his cage so we decided to make the investment in getting him well so he can find his next - better - family. Thanks to a very charitable lady, Bailey has been treated for heartworm and we expect to have a "negative" test on his next vet visit. He is already neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped and now it is time to get cracking on a new home so this boy can start to live his best life! My Story Bessie and Gertrude are one-year-old cat siblings with the sweetest personalities. We call these sisters the “cow cats” and gave them traditional cat names due to their black and white markings. Both are meek cats, but love to be petted and even offer cat kisses! Gertrude is more reserved, and has quite an obsession with her hideout coffee box, while Bessie is more open and outgoing. Seemingly healthy upon intake, a week into their stay at the harbor they became gravely ill. Thanks to Town and Country Vet and dedicated staff members and volunteers we were able to nurse them back to health. We are so pleased to say they are now healthy enough to be adopted! And while it is not mandatory, we would love to see them go into a home together. My Story What kind of people move away and abandon such a wonderful dog to fend for herself? Carmen was left at a rental property when the family moved away. She stayed and waited for them for weeks with kindly neighbors making sure she had food and water. Eventually, the landlord called animal control but no one was able to locate her family. Carmen is such a good dog. She lives life to the fullest and is wide open. She loves to play with the other dogs regardless of size and she loves to be the lead dog. She can be a little rambunctious and she doesn't seem to recognize how big she is so a nice, big fenced yard would be ideal. My Story This is one of the happiest, easy-going puppies in our rescue. Casey is about 7 months old and still very much a puppy. She loves other dogs and will play until she just can't play anymore. She is affectionate but not clingy, independent enough to explore all the cool things puppies can do on her own and loving enough to want cuddles from the people whenever she can get them. My Story Demeter is a 7-month-old kitten that was born in our facility. She has beautiful orange stripes and white fur that makes you want to cuddle and love her forever! Her piercing eyes are very characteristic to her, setting her apart from the rest of the kittens in her litter. Demeter has such a fun time chasing bugs on our Cat porch. She is very much an active kitten that will provide all kinds of entertainment for her family. She is a social butterfly and is very much a kitten who would love a playmate. Emmitt is full of energy and would not be good with small children as his energy level is quite high. My Story Evalis is located in Winchester Tennessee at a facility by the name of Animal Harbor. Evalis is a four-month-old puppy that was found with her sister Skie Marie at a location called the Natural Bridge in Sewanee Tennessee. A couple of hikers from Alabama found them wandering freely. They realized that the two puppies had been dumped and so they brought them to us, Both Evalis and Skie Marie have great temperaments. Evalis and Skie are very shy but love treats and attention. Evalis is a little more outgoing and is super happy to see our kennel techs every day. Evalis is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all shots, and is heartworm negative. He is ready for his forever home! We would love to see Evalis and Skie Marie find a home where they can stay together as they build confidence in one another but it is not a requirement. My Story This guy was dumped off in the middle of nowhere and the very first thing he did was found a house with kids! That family couldn't keep him unfortunately but we promised to find him some children of his own. Felix is about 45 pounds and just a bit under a year. He was a little shy when he first got to the shelter - it's a kinda scary place, you know - but he quickly showed us what a loving boy he is. Pretty laid back, not a big barker and a wonderful dog all the way around. Felix would do well in a house with another dog or two and definitely would love kids. My Story Frederick is his name but he also goes by Fred. He is a black & white border collie mix, approximately 4 years old and weighs 55/60 lbs. Like most border collies, he is very high energy when he is outside because he loves to play. He can be a little rough though as he loves toys and jumps hard and that an be a little rowdy in the house but usually calms down pretty quick. He would be great in a home with another high energy dog as he would love someone to play rough with him. He isn't mean at all though. Not long ago he had an encounter with a rattlesnake. He such a sweet guy that he didn't even want to hurt the snake, he just wanted to play. Well, that got him 2 days and nights at the vet's office. He pulled through with flying colors but his tongue has a few places on it where the tissue died from the bite but that does not stop him or interfere with anything he does. Even when bitten, he was still trying to run and play with his toy blocks with his mouth and face all swollen. He is 100% better today and happy to be able to play with his blocks again. He's not all rough and tumble. He loves attention and affection and particularly likes snuggles. All in all, he is just a big teddy bear and will be a fabulous addition to any family. My Story Pie is a red and white piebald three-year-old pittie mix. Pie received her name for her piebald coat color and amazing “sweet as pie” personality. Pie was immediately diagnosed with heartworm disease when her original owners surrendered her to Animal Harbor in March. Luckily a very generous donor supported Pie during her treatment, and we could not be happier to finally have her healthy and ready for adoption. Six months of heartworm treatment and being housed in a shelter environment has been very stressful for Pie. She is very attached to people and has a very strong desire to be around them. Animal Harbor staff members have become her family, but she is so ready for a new life in a new loving, understanding home. She prefers a nice lap and comfy couch for snuggles and endless kisses. My Story REBECCA IS LOCATED IN WINCHESTER TENNESSEE AT ANIMAL HARBOR. Rebecca and her two brothers Forrest and Lt Dan were born here in our facility. Their mother and Forrest have recently been adopted and now we are hoping to see Rebecca and Lt Dan go home soon. Rebecca is shy but loves to play with toys. She would love a home of her own but she would also love if she and her brother can go together. They have been together since birth and have never met another outside cat. So far all they have known is a kennel because they had ringworm. She is undergoing treatment for it and will be able to be transported when it is cleared. My Story This gorgeous girl was left tied up on one of the rescues cars. All that was left with her was a note that she was a stray that showed up while the people were moving and they couldn't keep her. We don't know any more of her back story but it seems as if this girl has been in transition for quite some time. We feel like the best-fit home for Rose Mary might be one that can be a calm oasis for her. No small children, perhaps only one other dog and people who can help her forget all the past and become the loving dog we see in her. She is mostly gentle and wants to please but she takes a bit of time to warm up to you. My Story SHE WAS A GOOD, GENTLE MAMA BUT IT IS HER TURN NOW. Rosie came in to rescue at about 8 months old, burdened with 9 puppies, all of whom have found homes. She must have had a very bad situation as she was extremely frightened but surrounded with love and kindness. she has blossomed. She still doesn't like a lot of commotion though so a house where she is either the only dog or with only one other animal and no young children would be ideal! She took to crate training right away and she will sit next to her foster father on the floor and getting gentle pets. Rosie has not had any potty accidents in the house or in the area she first stayed with the pups. She has learned to walk on a lead and comes when called but seems ready to have a forever friend to continue her training and reinforce that people are nice. My Story Sadie is an awesome dog who was turned over to rescue by her elderly owners as she was too big for them to handle. They got her as a tiny puppy but apparently didn't realize what a big dog she was going to be. She is still such a puppy and she loves all the other dogs in her foster but at 70 lbs scares the little ones a bit with her friendliness. This makes her so sad. Sadie is fully vetted, up to date on all shots, etc and is ready to go to her new family. Due to her size, we think a home with a large yard or acreage, older children (5 and up) and with at least one other doggie playmate who can show her the ropes would be ideal. Sadie loves everyone she meets and has been very affectionate with all the humans she encounters so we are certain she is going to make someone a fabulous family addition. My Story Salvage is a chihuahua terrier mix, brown and black, who is approximately four and a half years old. Weighs in at about 12 to 15 lbs, is fully vetted, current on all shots, neutered, and microchipped. He had a crushed hip at around 6 months old and had to have extensive surgery but it fixed the problem. He is no longer in pain but half the time he may hop or not use one of his back legs but that does not slow him down. He can run, jump, and play just like any other dog which is great as he needs to remain active because of his hip. He loves running and playtime but he also loves cuddles, attention, and affection. Two of his favorite things are sleeping in the bed with his human and car rides. He loves a lovable guy - loves everyone and especially kids. e even gets along with other cats and dogs as long as he's given a little warm up time. Shadow is just about a year old and she was surrendered as a young puppy when her owner went to jail. Sienna was found dumped in bad health conditions due to a flea infestation which caused an allergic reaction resulting in all over hair loss. A good Samaritan was able to foster her during her medical treatment, and we are happy to report that she has regained most of her hair back and is doing much better. Unfortunately, the shelter environment is very stressful for her and we would love to get her adopted as soon as possible.
