This is the story of 2 sisters, Azshara and Marais, who were found as stray puppies in an empty lot by a bus stop in Baja California, Mexico. They were starving, anemic, extremely malnourished, and infested with parasites. The sisters were discovered by an 18-year-old good samaritan who got help from her family to save them from a terrible fate. At the time of their rescue, Azshara and Marais were mere skin and bones. On top of that, Azshara had an ulcer on her right eye that was left untreated, so by the time they were able to get her medical treatment, the vet recommended it was best to remove her eye. Our local rescue partner assisted with the medical cost of that procedure, and transported Marais to us first in San Diego while Azshara recovered from her surgery in her temporary foster home in Mexico. Once she was all healed up, Azshara joined her sister in America as well, and as of today, both girls are looking for their forever families! Check out how great they look these days! They are 9 months old (estimated DOB March 2019) and both just sweet as can be. Azshara is the bolder and more readily playful of the pair, while Marais is the softer and more submissive sister. Both love to cuddle! They get along well with other dogs and they warm up to people quickly. They each weigh around 15 pounds and will remain small and compact fully grown. Azshara and Marais do not have to go to the same home together. If you would like to meet both or either one of these sweet souls, please submit an adoption application ASAP! We would love to help them start the new year in a doggie bed to call their own!If you'd like to meet them, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Meet Banjo! This handsome boy came to us from Thailand via Soi Dog Foundation, and is currently enjoying the life of a foster dog with another TBL Soi Dog alum! Here is an update from Banjo's foster mom: 'Banjo is a sweet shy boy that has taken some time and understanding to warm up to us, but we don't blame him after everything he has been through! We are loving seeing his progress at home. He is now comfortable with us approaching him to pet him (especially when he's all cozy lying in bed), although he won't initiate cuddle sessions yet. Banjo LOVES walks! He knows when we get home from work we get to go outside and he will come to the door with his tail wagging ready to go! When we are walking he's still shy in crowded places, but he is getting better, and even enjoyed going out for Sunday brunch this weekend. At home he is very quiet (has never barked!), loves to find a place to lounge and watch everything going on. Banjo has had absolutely no accidents in the house and even likes to sleep in on the weekends! He gets along just fine with our 2 cats, foster cat, and dog (Cali) so he would be a great addition to any house of pets.' If Banjo sounds pretty awesome, that's because he is! This sweet pup is about 7 and a half years young (estimated DOB May 2012), and is a great medium size of about 40 pounds. Banjo is ready to make himself at home with a forever family to call his own! Meet Biscuit, a 10-month-old cutie who came to us from Mexico. She and her brother Bender belonged to an elderly man who had no means to provide them with proper care. They were both underfed and constantly in danger of being run over by cars as they were often left outside on the streets all day. A good samaritan took pity on them. She fed them, took them to get their vaccinations, and eventually helped get them into our rescue partner's network. Both siblings are currently available for adoption at The Barking Lot. Biscuit, the more shy of the pair, recently went into foster care in the hope that she will learn to come out of her shell. Fast forward to a few weeks in, and Biscuit has made some great progress! Here’s what her foster mom has to say: “She is housebroken and uses the doggie door. No accidents in the house! She has the freedom to roam the house inside and out. We have a cat and Biscuit is very curious of him. My cat gets along fine with our other pups but is cautious with Biscuit. I think just because biscuit shows a lot of interest in him but she's never snapped or growled at our cat. She's very very shy. She is still learning to accept treats from people but only when they are tossed. We are still working on taking from the hand. She does not know any tricks yet. She's always well behaved. It's only when we're gone that she gets into mischief. She can be a lil naughty sometimes cuz she's a digger and steals clothes and remote controls and chews them up even though she has plenty of toys.... 😂😂 When I corner her so I can pick her up, she'll just make herself small but will let you pick her up. She has never growled or barked in a menacing way. She wants to be loved but doesn't know how to react to it.... yet. She's a sweetheart and playful with other pups. It's people she's more scared of. She's ok cuddling for a bit when you can catch her. She's not yet good at going on walks, but we're working on it!' Biscuit is doing well and making slow and steady progress in her foster home. She is sweet, docile, and observant. In her element, Biscuit is also playful, inquisitive, and engaging. We would love to see her in a forever home that can provide her with stability so Biscuit can build up confidence and eventually blossom! If you'd like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Meet Capricorn! Capricorn is a sweet and gentle Soi Dog who was rescued by our partner rescue Soi Dog Foundation. She flew to us all the way from Thailand, and due to her shyness, we thought she would enjoy a stint in a foster home. Turns out, we were right! Capricorn is doing very well in a home environment. She is completely housebroken, likes going on walks, loves treats, and enjoys sleeping in the bed. Capricorn gets along very well with other dogs, and currently shares her foster home with 2 other dogs. She is shy around new people, so it does take a little bit of time to get to know her. However, once she opens up, she is a very loyal and loving girl. She also has a fun-loving and silly side to her. When she gets excited for walks, she will do a bunch of play bows in anticipation. Capricorn enjoys playing with soft toys, and her favorite is a stuffed moose. Occasionally she would steal a sock and hide it in her bed for safekeeping. Capricorn was estimated to be born in July 2012, and she is a great medium size of about 35-40 pounds. If you would like to give Capricorn a forever home, let us know!If you'd like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below.
