This very good boy was initially shy and a bit scared when he first arrived but he`s come out of his shell so much! Alpha is now confident and goofy and he LOVES adventure! Whether it be going on a hike at McKinney Falls State Park, or going swimming, or even just hopping in the car for some sightseeing – Alfalfa is your guy!Alfafa is not only curious and adventurous, he is also a smarty pants! He knows several commands (sit, down, and shake), and we`re pretty sure he`d love to learn a few more. Oh, and he is somewhat of a diva… that’s right, Alfafa loves it when you brush his hair. He’ll thank you by wagging his bushy tail and maybe even giving you a kiss or two!As a larger, black dog, Alfafa is often overlooked here. When you walk past his kennel, he`ll bark and jump, but all he`s trying to say is `pick me!`. And he doesn`t understand why nobody ever does pick him :( Alpha just needs someone to give him a chance, which is why we`re hoping to find him a foster home, so they can see the amazing dog he is without all the stress of being at the shelter. As a member of the Orange Dot Crew, Alfafa will go home with everything you need, including a crate, harness, goodie bag, a training voucher, and all the support you need. Please email them for more info, or to set up a time to meet him: orangedotcrew@gmail.com data-link=`https://photos.app.goo.gl/bRpHCVc39unVMD858` data-title=`A790878 Alpha ` data-description=`4 new photos added to shared album`> show less

Oh, Alfie! His name is actually Alfred but we only call him that when he`s being naughty. Alfie is young and frustrated and smart... that is a recipe for naughty dog when you are living in the shelter! Alfie also isn`t the most confident doggo. But no worries, Alfie has a big circle of shelter friends and they are helping show him that people are good and the world isn`t so scary!Alfie enjoys taking his time on strolls, leaving no smell un-smelled. He also likes treats and puzzle toys. The car still makes him a little nervous so we`re taking baby steps with car rides but Alfie is getting braver and braver each time.Alfie takes direction nicely and would do well with a patient, savvy foster. He has shown friendly interest in other dogs, but he would definitely need some decompression time and then slow intros.Alfie is a bit handshy and while we don`t like to think of why that is, we do keep it in mind and make sure to go slowly and move very deliberately around him. This cute little shepherd mix is fairly out-of-sorts at the shelter and we`d love to get him into foster so he can catch up on his zzz`s and be the best doggie he can be. In addition to all the regular goodies, Alfie goes home with a couple of bottles of spray cheese - his FAVORITE thank you very much!Reach out to orangedotcrew@gmail.com to learn more! http://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=ASTN.A802396 show less

Ash is a sweet, very easy going goofy boy with medium energy and loves to play with you or his siblings. Even though he’s a little guy, he’s quick to give a very big purr and loves the attention. He mostly plays with his four siblings (A801555, A801556, A801557, A801579) wrestling and right in the middle of it even though he was the runt of the litter. He loves chewing on mice, any string toys and enjoys hand wrestling as shown in the picture. Even though he’s still the smallest of his litter, he’s tough and plays hard, jumping into any wrestling match. He sleeps and plays with all of his sibs so you could mix and match if you’d like a pair.He purrs immediately when I talk to him sleeping on the cat tree and even more so when you pet him I pick him up. I pick him up even if he’s playing, to carry around and he’s find but may want down if he’s busy. He’ll play with my feet in my Birks while I sit and my desk and will come up and give a small chirp for attention to get in my lap if I don’t see him. He’ll stay if he asks for lap time but if his siblings are playing he might want to get down to join his brothers and sister. Most of the time, he’ll jump up to the back of the couch or a closer cat tree perch for attention if you walk by and he’s up.He has light soft voice and will chirp at to you for attention and on occasion will talk to you. He’s excellent on the litter box and is pretty easy to clip his nails when he’s sleepy. Even with his siblings to chase, he really tries to get my seven year old cat’s attention to play but is gentle and doesn’t jump on her. He can be a little shy around new people but warms up pretty quickly. I don’t have any experience on what he’d be like with kids but think he’ll warm up and the same with a dog with good, slow introductions. For more information email adaywithfosters@gmail.com or visit https://www.instagram.com/adaywithfosters/ for more pictures. show less

Charlie is a very sweet, very easy going boy with low to medium energy and extremely gentle. He’ll always give a big purr when I talk to him on the cat tree and pick him up. Most of the time he plays with his four siblings (A801555, A801556, A801557, A801578) chasing through the house, wrestling or toys if everyone else is asleep. He loves hand or foot wrestling and goes apey for mice and especially string or dangly toys. He’s lightly bonded with a couple, sleeping with them more but plays and sleeps with all of them so you could mix and match if you’d like a pair.He purrs immediately as I often talk to all of them on the cat tree when they’re asleep and wake them up for pets after talking to them. I pick him up, even if he’s playing, to carry around and he’s find with it but may want down to play if he’s busy with kitten stuff and the same goes for laps. Lately he’s really opening up, coming over and chirping to be picked up and held while I’m sitting at my desk and he’ll stay when he asks for lap time. He’s becoming as social as his sister Ginger, running across the room when I get his attention for some lap time.Lately he’s starting to talk and has medium soft voice when he chirps for attention and will sometimes meow and even talk a little when asking for attention. He excellent on the litter box and is pretty easy to clip his nails when he’s sleepy. He mostly ignores my seven year old cat but will occasionally swat at her to play or chase her tail. He can be a little shy around new people but warms up and I don’t have any experience on what he’d be like with kids but think he’ll do find and same with a dog with good and slow introductions. For more information email adaywithfosters@gmail.com or visit https://www.instagram.com/adaywithfosters/ for more pictures. show less

Cheeto is an easy going boy with medium energy and extremely gentle when you play with him even if you try and wind him up. He has a big purr and will do so immediately. He’s an explorer and starting to climb though the majority of the time he plays hard with his four siblings (A801555, A801556, A801578, A801579) wrestling and playing fast as you can chase. Like all his siblings, he likes chewing on them or on mice, jumps for string toys, leather cord and loves milk jug pull tabs. He sleeps and plays with all of them so you could mix and match if you’d like a pair.He gives a big purr quickly by just petting him or sometimes I just talk to him on the cat tree and can hear him. I pick him up often, even if he’s playing, to carry around but he’ll likely want down if he’s busy. In the past few days, he’s really warmed up that a lap is a good thing and will ask for attention. When he was younger he wanted attention but would stay at arm’s length. Now he’ll come over, sometimes from across the room and ask to be picked up and sit in my lap at my desk quite comfortably once he’s worn off some energy. When he was younger, he didn’t talk much at all but lately will give a strong chirp or two to be picked up and will talk with me if he’s on the cat tree, couch or at my feet sitting at my desk. He’s excellent with the litter box and is pretty easy to clip his nails when he’s sleepy. With his siblings to chase and wrestle with, he mostly ignores my seven year old cat but will occasionally swat at her to play or chase her tail. Meet your newest crush, whose name will be easy to remember since it’s Crush!Crush is the first to admit that he has not had an easy life. He first arrived at the shelter as a stray in 2013. He had been attacked by two other dogs and as a result, had a pretty painful spinal injury. He was then adopted by someone who brought him back just a few months later because she was moving. He was adopted again, and this time stayed with that family for over 5 years. But when they decided to start a family, they returned Crush.Crush can potentially live with another dog, but it would need to be the right dog and with an adopter willing to take things slowly. He is super smart and loves treat puzzles. Okay, so he really just likes the treats in the puzzle, but he knows he has to solve the puzzle to get the treat so he gets to work right away! If the treat happens to be cheese, he gets to work even quicker!Toys are fun, especially the soft, squeaky ones! Car rides are exciting, and if you let him, Crush will nudge up to the front seat just far enough to give you some kisses. Hiking at the park is the best because there are so many smells and people and dogs and his whole face just lights up with curiosity!Crush is ready for some stability, with someone who understands he isn’t an object that can be returned if he doesn’t work perfectly all the time, or if there are some life changes. He’s looking for someone willing to put in some effort, and in return, he promises to do his very best. Ginger is a perky girl with medium, bouncy energy, the most social of her siblings and extremely gentle when you play with her. She’s very quick to give a purr pretty much anytime, even if you grab her playing and pick her up. It’s a big, strong purr for a little girl. She’s a social butterfly and will move to whatever part of the cat tree I’m at for extra pets and will come over for attention, walking straight up to be picked up, held or sit in my lap. Lately she’s begun to tap my ankle to be picked up in lieu of meowing and does both. She’s a bit of an explorer starting to climb and jump but the majority of the time he plays hard with his four brothers, not shying away from tackling any of them (A801555, A801557, A801578, A801579) wrestling, playing chase or chewing on any of their toys- string, mice, leather cord, etc., and jumps when you throw mice or string and trying to teach her to fetch. She sleeps and plays with them all so you could mix and match if you’d like a pair. She’s often aware and watches when I come into a room and can pick her up anytime, even if she’s playing, to carry around and she’ll just purr but may want down if she’s got things to do. She’s a little bouncy to sit still on a lap for long periods and will want to get down to play with her brothers until she’s worn some energy off. Once she’s played out, she’ll stay. She’s chirpy and talks for attention and sometimes I hear her talking in the house. She’s excellent in the litter box and is easy to clip her nails when she’s sleepy. With her siblings to chase, she mostly ignores my seven year old cat but still tries to get her to play or chase her tail. She can be a little shy around new people but warms up very quickly. I don’t have any experience on what she’d be like with kids but like new people should warm up quickly and the think she’ll be the same with a dog with introductions. For more information email adaywithfosters@gmail.com or visit https://www.instagram.com/adaywithfosters/ for more pictures. show less

Jack is a very easy going boy with low to medium energy and extremely gentle when you play with him, tickling his belly, etc., where he’s very quick to give a big purr. He often plays with my shoes and he’ll roll over on his back easily so I can rub his belly with my foot when I’m working in the kitchen. He’s a little bit of an explorer and the majority of the time he plays hard with his four siblings (A801556, A801557, A801578, A801579) wrestling, playing chase, chewing on mice, string and other toys. He’s lightly bonded with a couple, sleeping with them more but plays and sleeps with all of them so you could mix and match if you’d like a pair.He gives a big purr immediately, even if I walk up to where he’s sleeping and just talk to him on the cat tree before petting him. I can pick him up, even if he’s playing, to carry around but he isn’t completely sold to sit still on a lap yet but he’s opening up to it every day when I pick him up and put him in my lap. In the past few days, he’s come up and asked for attention when I’m at my desk to be picked up after play time. When he’s worn off some of his kitten energy, he’ll sit next to my leg on the couch or stay in my lap at my desk. So far, he doesn’t talk much, only a slight soft chirp when he wants attention and he’ll often have to ask twice because it’s soft. He’s excellent with the litter box and is pretty easy to clip his nails when he’s sleepy. With his siblings to chase and wrestle with, he mostly ignores my seven year old cat but will occasionally swat at her to play or chase her tail. He can be a little shy around new people and since I don’t have kids or a dog he maybe a little shy around kids if they’re bouncy but should warm up as I carry him around all the time and the same on a dog with good, slow introductions. For more information email adaywithfosters@gmail.com or visit https://www.instagram.com/adaywithfosters/ for more pictures. show less

Kevin is just a young`in who could really use a break. He originally came in as a stray and was then adopted out to a family with another dog. The details aren’t clear but there were some potential resource guarding issues and after an incident with the other dog, Kevin was returned to AAC 2 months later.Resource guarding is typically a very manageable behavior but you have to be diligent. We never recommend the availability of resources to all dogs in the household during the first several weeks, and after that, we recommend close monitoring to ensure that no doggo has decided that the resource is his/hers.Kevin is an affectionate and loving pup, but he is also pretty anxious, and the shelter environment only exacerbates his anxiety. We’d like to get him into a foster home and see if his anxiety decreases naturally (which it almost always does).Kevin has a long life ahead of him, and we want to make sure it is the happiest life possible for this sweet doggo! He deserves that. If you have a soft spot for anxious but sweet pups, and are currently pet-free, please reach out to us to see if Kevin may be a good fit for you. As with all the dogs in our program, we will provide all the tools and support you need. Reach out to orangedotcrew@gmail.com for more info! http://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=ASTN.A803251I`m available for adoption, foster, or VIP adoption - which means we`ll have two weeks to get to know each other before sealing the deal! Have you ever met a creature who is equal parts goofball athlete and snuggly bed hog? Do you need such a magical being in your life? Lucky for you this brillant, beautiful blanket dolphin (also known as Lark) is in need of a new foster home or an adopter! Why should you foster or adopt Lark? Let me count the ways:- SO snuggly and cuddly. She is comfortable sleeping in most positions, and will actively seek out a blanket to wiggle under - she tucks herself in!-Loves her toys and LOVES to play tug. She might sound ferocious with her growling but she is most definitely loving every second, she`d probably play tug forever if you could hold on that long.- Good with other doggos! After a solid warm up and time to get to know each other, Lark loves to play and wrestle with other dogs! She doesn`t mind sharing her toys, and is happy to cuddle up for a nap and share the dog bed with them.- Wicked smart. This dog`s IQ is off the charts. In addition to knowing many commands with plenty of brainpower to learn more, Lark definitely understands whatever you tell her. She might not WANT to listen to everything you ask, but I`m 99% positive she understands it all.- Immediately sweet and friendly with every human she sees (except vet people, they`re always up to something sneaky)- A perfect size - only 40 pounds!- She connects to you with her soul, and she appreciates everything she has- Lark is a perfect combination of active and chill. She`ll give you that extra motivation to get off the couch and walk the block once or twice a day, but doesn`t need constant exercise and stimulation, and ohhhh the cuddles are worth everything!- Heterochromia! (one blue & one brown eye)- Personality levels are off the charts. She can be a stubborn brat sometimes, but always makes up for her `moments` with heart-melting sweetnessWant to learn more? Email her current foster mom at dduhlorian@gmail.com and tell her why you should be considered to be Lark`s new temporary or permanent home! show less

Penelope. Penelope Cruz. Sweet P! These are all names that friends fondly call this sensitive and loving senior gal. Penelope is ready to leave her past behind her and is looking forward to a future filled with lots of love… and belly rubs! She is described by the people who know her best as affectionate, silly, and loyal. As an… ahem, distinguished lady, Penelope has experience in a home, and knows a thing or two about couch snuggling, potty breaks, and zoomies in a yard. Penelope would be more than glad to snuggle up and watch a movie with you, or take a leisurely stroll in the neighborhood in the cool mornings or evenings. When she feels happy and safe, Penelope makes the cutest little grunt. Oink oink! She can sometimes be particular about new people but it all comes from a past that she had no control over. As an outside dog, Penelope felt the need to protect her home and family from strangers. Her ideal home would be low traffic, and slow proper intros when there are visitors. She does have the potential to live with another calm, respectful, low-medium energy dog. We would love to introduce you to Penelope if you think she sounds like the dog for you!Email orangedotcrew@gmail.com to learn more! She`s available for adoption, foster, or VIP adoption - which means you`ll have two weeks to get to know each other before sealing the deal! Some of the dogs we work with have sad stories. Some stories we know are sad by looking in the dog’s eyes, seeing them flinch, physical scars. Some stories we know are sad from word-of-mouth or eyewitness accounts. And in cases like Rhonda, we know she had a sad story because she was found in the street, alone, unable to move. She was wearing a spiked collar so someone probably viewed her as a guard dog rather than a family member.Rhonda is all healed up now. She has been at the shelter since July and nobody from her past has come for her. That`s probably a good thing.Rhonda lets us know she is still afraid by sometimes showing her teeth, or barking, or stiffening. We respect her boundaries and move at her pace. And in return, Rhonda lets us know how grateful she is for the love and attention. As one of her shelter advocates has said, once you are Rhonda`s friend, you are golden.Rhonda may always have some stranger danger, and we don`t blame her. She needs someone willing to go slowly with her, who wants to give her all of the comforts she has probably never known before - a soft bed, a gentle touch, yummy treats just for her, and time to build trust.Rhonda has kept to herself when she goes to playgroup. She is tolerant of other dogs but doesn`t necessarily need to live with one. So perhaps you either have a pet-free home, or a non-pushy dog who`s content to simply share space with another dog.Let`s make the rest of Rhonda`s story a happy one, a loving one, a forever one. He was in an office for a while and didn`t get into anything he wasn`t supposed to. He is definitely potty-trained as well! He was always excited to have anyone walk into the office and insisted on greeting each and everyone. He never chewed on anything that wasn`t explicitly given to him, and even then he wasn`t much of a chewer. He does love a well stuffed kong or treats though! The only notable time he took something that wasn`t his was when he took a staff member`s zip-up hoodie to his bed to sleep with. He didn`t do anything but snuggle it, and that is down right heart-warming and endearing. He loves to walk and could be a great running/hiking buddy. We hope a public kennel will help him find his furever home or a lovely foster until that certain someone(s) come along. He for certain acts young and is very athletic and would love walks, hikes, or even runs. He is pretty smart as well and could do agility training work if you wanted to go that route to burn his physical and mental energy. As for his dog sociability, he did go to play group a couple times but didn`t love it. He was attacked a few times by other large dogs and gets a bit worried when in a group of big dogs. He has the potential of doing well with one dog his size or slightly larger, but groups may always be a bit intimidating for him. He does not do well with small dogs, cats, or other small animals including chickens. For further information and inquires please come to the shelter and meet this sweet boy during open hours which are everyday from 11am-7pm EVERYDAY. His Champion is Hilary, she works here and is the owner of previously mention hoodie, so just ask if she is in and she would be more than happy to come help you get to know this chocolate dream boy! This lovable boy was originally named `Roger` when he arrived at the Austin Animal Center in June as a stray with severe wounds on his face, head, chest, and legs. He landed himself in an awesome foster home to recover from three rounds of surgery. His foster family soon learned that he didn`t respond to Roger, but carried himself much like the very debonair, handsome, and strong actor Patrick Swayze. Swayze is a quiet and loving furry little gentleman. He exemplifies how forgiving animals can be. His sweet nature and slow pace show you he has no emotional scars from whatever happened to him. His foster believes little lover boy would be a perfect companion for someone in search of a low-maintenance pup. Swayze does well in his crate when left alone. Apartment life seems to suit him well, but he also loves to lay outside on the balcony, pretend it’s a yard, and smell all the smells. Swayze has adorable little habits that all center around how much he loves to be around people. Swayze loves to collect a piece of his foster’s laundry and snuggle with it. He loves snuggling with anything that smells like his person. On walks around the neighborhood, Swayze greets every single human who passes with a slow and gentle kiss on the hand. The of the most adorable thing about Swayze is that he doesn’t make a sound. He whimpers fondly when he sees another dog friend on his walks, but is otherwise completely silent. Swayze is dog friendly and has shown respect to cat friends. Overall, his foster says Swayze is an A+ gentle furry family member who just wants someone to help him feel safe and loved. If you would like to meet Swayze, email his foster mom at lauren.knobloch@gmail.com. Tiger would like to order one life do-over, please. This senior boy has had some not-so-great experiences… his original owner received several animal-related citations, and then ultimately rehomed Tiger to someone else. Then when that person ended up with some legal issues, Tiger somehow found himself on the street. As a result, we don’t have many home notes although the good samaritan who kept him overnight before bringing him to the shelter said that he was an “absolute sweetheart.” That’s the resilience of dogs, folks. After all this dog has been through, he still loves everyone he meets. We don’t know much more about Tiger other than that but we are learning! Like, that he thinks treats are the best thing ever. That he generously doles out kisses. That he agrees walks are awesome and sometimes he will even help carry his leash! We need someone to foster Tiger so that we can more effectively market him, and also because he truly deserves to be in a nice, quiet, stable home. Vanilla`s foster care provider reports: Nilla is an easy going and sweet girl. She purrs quickly and will often reach out with a paw when you pet her. She`s explores a little when she`s not napping or playing with her toys. She loves furry mice, string, ping pong balls and fluff balls she likes to throw and carry around the house. She`s quick to give a purr and enjoys being petted and loves her chin scratched. She`ll even stretch out for belly rubs and is comfortable being picked up and carried around. I grab her, putting her over my shoulder and carry her around often. So far she hasn`t asked to get up but will stay in my lap for a bit at my desk and is fine staying on the couch with you… especially if there is a spoon to lick clean after some vanilla ice cream. She loves lounging on the cat tree or table to look out at window. So far she doesn`t talk much and has a very soft voice when I`ve seen her open her mouth a few times to say something. She wants to play, but my older cat isn`t interested so she ends up running and chasing toys around the house. Nilla did play well with a pair of younger foster kittens I had… even cleaning them up when they`d squeeze in a box she liked to sleep in. When I briefly took on a foster dog, she fluffed up when they came into the room so she`ll need a slow, easy introduction with them. I don`t have any experience what she`s like with children but think she`ll be fine as I pick her up often and carry her around. Finally, she`s excellent with the litter box and is easy to clip her nails as she watches. Zeus. A black male pittie surrendered after living with the same family since he was a puppy. We’re sure he was the most adorable puppy, and it’s too bad it wasn’t a lifetime commitment since Zeus is the type of dog who is the least adopted in shelter systems. It sounds like Zeus had a pretty solitary life, confined to the backyard. But his notes also state he was very gentle with the owner’s 90-year old grandmother, so perhaps she either snuck him inside the house sometimes, or she would go outside to spend time with him.Zeus has found a friend in volunteer David, who learned that Zeus loves to go on walks, eat yummy nom noms, and is quite the affectionate boy once he knows you are his friend. Zeus is scared at the shelter, and needs people to go slowly with him at first. This is understandable after losing the only life he has ever known, even if it wasn’t an ideal life. For lots of people coming to the shelter to look for a new family member, they won’t take the time to learn about Zeus, and they will simply move on to the dog who is wiggly and goofy and who climbs into their lap immediately. Zeus just isn’t that doggo, and so he needs someone who is okay with that… who will understand and respect his boundaries, and will go slowly with him. In return, with time and love and patience, you will be rewarded with a very loyal, affectionate dog, who is just as deserving of a forever family as any other dog.Reach out to orangedotcrew@gmail.com for more info!http://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=ASTN.A800085 show less
