About Shailah

How can you not love that goofy smile?! Don’t let her age deceive you, Shailah is as energetic, silly, and playful as a dog half her age. This sweet, affectionate girl loves to be snuggled up by your side with her head on your lap while you scratch behind her ears. She is great with new people of all ages (as demonstrated by the many kisses she’ll give) and just a total love bug. She also loves long walks and has not let her age slow her down one bit. She's got plenty of energy to spare and will need a strong handler to guide her while she's out and about exploring the world with you. Shailah is fully housebroken and very food motivated which makes teaching her new tricks a breeze. This cutie will make a great addition to a home where she can shine as an only pet. If you’re looking for a cuddly, playful, loving companion come meet Shailah. We know you’ll fall in love with her just as much as we have! Age: ~11 years How I came to PAWS: owner surrender- Shailah's previous family was unable to keep her.  Are you a special, patient animal lover who can help a frightened kitten learn to trust people? If so, Agent Smolders needs your help! He needs to live with another friendly cat to help him open up more. He is spooked from the noise and action of life in the shelter and spends his days peering out at the world from his little box.  Although Agent Smolder is frightened, he is sweet-natured and just needs a quieter home to relax and gain confidence. When you pet his head and rub him gently around his face and jaw, he closes his eyes and relaxes. If you can help an animal in need of a friend, this orange baby needs a hero. He needs a quiet home and someone with patience to encourage him to trust and become the loving companion we know he is.  Alani is a super sweet, gentle, and very playful kitty whose squeaky meows will melt your heart! She is a little cautious at first, but when she realizes she's safe will happily follow you around the house and keep you company wherever you go. Even though Alani is not a lap cat, she loves to be around her people; when she's not busy chasing a wand toy around, she will beg for pets--especially butt scratches!  This special lady would do best as the only animal in a home with adults or grown children that will enjoy her company and give her the love she deserves.    Sweet angel April has the best personality! She is sweet but not too clingy; mellow but still enjoys walks; she loves afternoon naps but also meeting new friends!  At 11 years young, April eats a specific diet to maintain optimal kidney health. She also has several other medical conditions that need routine monitoring and daily medication. Despite it all, she is the sweetest girl and just wants to enjoy life surrounded by love!   We think April could easily befriend other small, nice dogs and seems to get along fine with cats. Interested adopters should contact PAWS to learn more about this sweet gem.  While she doesn't come with a wand or special magical powers, Bellatrix will charm you with her adorable face and under bite!  She is around 9 years old and was turned into a shelter after her owner left her with someone who was not able to keep her.  Bellatrix needs some time to warm up to meeting new people but once she is comfortable, she is a very sweet. She can be a bit anxious when left alone for too long so would do best in a quiet, low energy adult only home where someone is home to spend plenty of time with her.  She previously lived with another dog and would likely do well with another mild mannered small dog.  Bellatrix had a small mammary nodule that was removed at the time of her spay surgery. We are currently waiting on the results of a biopsy and we'll know more about her health status shortly.  Name: Bellatrix  Location:Northeast Adoption Center Breed:  Shih Tzu mix (Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.    What's better than coffee in the morning? Cracking up when you see my paws going after those water droplets running down the side of the shower curtain, that's what! Hi there, I'm Birdie! Not only am I the softest cat my foster parents have ever had the pleasure of petting, but I am also a ton of fun. I am quite low-maintenance-- despite the basket of cat toys I could play with, my favorite things to bat around and pounce at are q-tips and shoelaces. Toss a q-tip in the bathtub, and I am a happy camper. Speaking of which, the bathroom is my favorite room in the house-- I'm not sure if it's because that's the room I first stayed in in my temporary home or if it's just because I'm a bit of a weirdo. Either way, I will ask you if I can take a nap in your tub. I don't even care it it's dry! I will even stick my head right around the shower curtain while the water is running just to say hello to you in the morning. What's better than coffee in the morning? Cracking up when you see my paws going after those water droplets running down the side of the shower curtain, that's what! I am very patient with young children and am getting along quite well with the other foster cat staying here.  Could we be loved and be loved? Absolutely. And we will love you in return. Two big brothers, we get along with kids, other cats, and of course, each other. In fact, we are a bonded pair who need to stay together. As the song says, “ Love would never leave us alone. ” It's easy to tell us apart: Orange-and-white Marley is ready to reggae. I am an affectionate guy who will nuzzle you and flop over when you give me a good pet. Bob is gray and white, as solidly built as my brother and also soft. Though more introverted, I still like a good chin rub.   We are two young, handsome, agile, inquisitive, friendly guys. We could go on, but we’re too modest… not. We are also soft/silky, active, highly pettable, and even more highly adoptable—but it has to be together. We are also devoted to each other. The people who wrote this bio down for us (we can’t hold pens in our paws) smiled the whole time they were with us. Here are some of the things they said: “Can you believe that white fur? It’s like a cloud.” And “Just when you think one is cuter, the other one strikes the most adorable expression.” It’s true. We look different (Jack is black and white, Chase orange and white) but are both adorable. So if you’re looking for twice the fun and twice the love, come meet this dynamic duo at PAWS Northeast. Darren enjoys mealtimes, patrols around the house and following his foster parent around helping out with chores, but his all-time favorite activity is an all-hands-on-deck cuddle session when he holds onto your shoulder as you stroke him.  Debbie Cakes is as sweet as her name! This older gal has all the benefits of a mature lady - she's calmer, walks well on leash, and seems to be housebroken. She is affectionate and gentle. She does well with other calmer dogs, and will play bow and be very interested in sniffing and making friends. Debbie could live with children who are used to large dogs and will be gentle with her. We aren't sure how she feels about cats yet.  Debbie had a cancerous mammary mass that was removed at the time of her spay surgery.  Although the mass was removed in its entirety with clear margins, it is possible that new masses could develop in the future.  Age: ~7-10 years old How I came to PAWS: transferred from ACCT, owner could not keep Animal ID#: A43340532 Weight: ~60 lbs (and needs to lose a few!)  Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess. He loves to wrestle and play with other dogs, but is very respectful if they do not want to play with him. He needs a large dog friend in his new home that will want to play with him most of the time. He is good with his crate, perfectly house-trained, walks excellent on a gentle leader harness, and loves food puzzles! Dooley is still a puppy, and needs an adopter who can work with him to train out his attention-seeking habits, but having a playful dog friend will significantly help!  Eugene may be full grown, but he's just a big baby! He's a real lovebug who likes gentle pets and loves rope toys and playtime. He's a good boy who enjoys his "sit" and "paw" practice sessions (and the treats that go along with them!). Eugene is still learning about other dogs, but as a young guy himself, may do well with a dog a few years older who can show him the ropes - a big sister perhaps? This handsome fellow can be a bit shy at first, but if you have patience and love to give, he'll return the favor tenfold.  You won't need to move the stars themselves to express your love for these nuggets, you'll just need to apply! Naive Fry and confident Leela were found alone on the streets before they fortuitously met in the same foster home, and their chemistry together was instant. Their relationship is equal parts odd and endearing, mixing in sessions of loud and endless play with quiet cuddles and grooming. Fry was definitely a little rough around the edges when he first landed, but Leela has really taught him how to love and not act the fool (as much as one can expect from a kitten anyway), which is why they would love to join their new home with each other as a pair! You don't need to be your own grandfather to know that these two will make any home or interplanetary delivery business better, and they would do great fitting in with whatever rogues gallery of cats and kids that already live there as well. So before you crack open another can of Slurm, why not make these two your golden ticket instead?  *Leela is also FIV+, which doesn't affect her chances to live a full and happy life, it just means that she has a harder time fighting off illnesses if she comes into contact with them, so she would do best in a quiet and calm home with someone able to get her the extra care if she needs it. Please ask her foster parent for details about this disease if you wish to learn more!  Hopefully, you are a Bewitched fan to appreciate this girl's name! Gladys Kravitz is quite a curious cat and is often peeking outside her cage wondering what is going on.  If she had curtains, she would likely constantly be peering out from behind them! During time outside of her cage, she loves to mosey around and check everything out. Gladys is incredibly sweet and loves head rubs (and pretty much any form of attention).  She was originally rescued after she was found as a stray and had been adopted but sadly returned because her family could no longer keep her. She has been waiting for her forever home for quite some time and is eager to get back into a loving home.  She is currently on a special diet that helps with skin allergies, which she happens to love.  Ahoy, matey! Our names are Silver and Jack and we are the fearless pirates of the Land Lovers! We always count on each other in times of high winds and stormy seas so we are looking for a forever home together. We have both been through so much together that we decided we would rather walk the plank than be apart again! Because of an infection when we were just babes, we both had to have one eye removed, but don’t fret! Together we make up a perfect pair of eyes and mighty pirates like us only need one anyway. Our courage and bravery makes even old Blackbeard shiver his timbers! We love to wrestle for hours and finding buried treasure under the couch. Silver takes his bounties very seriously so ye better batten down the hatches if someone tries to take his booty... I mean food, so separate food bowls would be best. Jack is a trickster who loves to run away as soon as you get close. We love our foster mom’s resident cats so we would quickly accept any other cat crew members in our forever home! We have tons of love to give and energy to burn so we will need some extra playtime and plenty of cuddles. We’ve never been around children but are very patient and love to be carried around. If you have any wee mateys we would love to meet them and see if they’re pirate friendly!  Jake is an absolute sweetheart! This curious little guy is the perfect companion!  Jake is one of the sweetest cats I have ever been around, he loves to cuddle up to you and have his head scratched all morning. He is still a young cat, only 8 months old, so he has a youthful curiosity. When he isn’t napping and snuggling, you could find Jake exploring every inch of his surroundings or playing with his favorite toys. Jake is currently on a few medications for a little cold he picked up. He should be all done within the next week and back to full health!   Jeremy Melville is a snuggly, chill boy who will light up your life with his passionate purr and laid-back attitude. He is a lovely, well-rounded cat: he loves to kick a toy mouse around but is happy to spend a lazy afternoon on the couch. He loves attention but is happy to give you your space if you're busy. He will always get up to greet you at the door when you come home like the gentleman that he is, but his silly side comes out at night when he chases his own tail before settling into bed. Overall, this sweet, handsome kitty makes a wonderful companion. Jeremy may be fine sharing a home with another mellow cat. Jeremy has a medical condition that causes him to have a runny or bloody nose and for which he needs daily medications. If you’re interested in adopting, PAWS staff will be happy to discuss Jeremy's needs with you in more detail.  Kit-Kat is a feisty little girl that was found on the streets (being tough as usual) back in April before being brought to PAWS. She is around 4 years old, but has just as much energy as a kitten! She loves chasing balls, toy mice, feathers, and anything that catches her eye. Kit-Kat loves to cuddle, get head scratches, and even curl up under the blankets in bed with you!  Lily's enthusiasm for life will make you so thankful that you took her home! She is a happy go lucky pup who is really excited to meet everyone. She's very intelligent and has fun playing brain games like "hide and seek the treat," food puzzles and training sessions. She looks forward to having plenty of Kong and Nylabone chew toys in her new home, too! Lily is also a total snuggle bug, and once she's all tired out she loves to curl up on the couch against you and promptly start snoring.  To show off her smarts, Lily has already mastered crate training and housebreaking in her foster home. Want your new dog to learn how to do agility sports or just fun parlor tricks? Lily is the gal for you!  Lily will thrive in a home with adults or teens who are as active as her! She loves exercise, and enjoys long walks, runs, and hikes - bonus if you also have a yard for her to play in.  Marth is a snuggle machine with a knack for somersaults. If you’re a sucker for squishable faces, then Marth is the guy for you. This handsome man lives for head scratches in exchange for (happily) providing his constant companionship. Adjusting to a new environment is no problem for Marth, as he will quickly seek out those willing to provide him with affection. A cast on his hind leg has meant a new way of navigation that includes the occasional side roll or handstand, but his recent clumsiness is no downer on his curious and loving nature. When he’s not practicing gymnastics, his preferred hobby is cuddling and melting you with his eyes. Marth’s current limited mobility means he isn’t bouncing all over the place, but he’s at his happiest when he’s closest to you. For the time that Marth has a cast on his hind leg, his healing will need to continue to be monitored at the PAWS clinic and he will need a space to heal to prevent further injury. While Marth is cool with the presence of other animals, during the healing process he’ll do best in his own space.  The sweetest tail-less tortie you'll ever meet! Maryam Mirzakhani lost her tail in an accident while living in West Philly, but she's recovered and flourishing. She loves lounging around but also still has a lot of spunk! Maryam is a mix of sweet, calm, playful, and curious. She's very interested in exploring her new surroundings, but loves a good chair to snuggle up on. She is friendly towards other cats and would probably be good with gentle kids or a calm, well-behaved dog.  Maryam has her claws, but tolerates nail clipping and loves her scratching box. She is fond of all types of toys and has been great about using her litter box. Maryam is so cute and well behaved, she would also make a good "first cat" for someone more inexperienced.  Meet Thumper (or Milkshake, as we've been calling him), a sweet and spunky boy ready to wiggle right into your heart! This cookies-and-cream boy came to PAWS after an unfortunate encounter with a car that left him with a fractured pelvis, but don't think for a moment that that's dampened his spirits. Milkshake has made a great recovery, to the point where it's been hard to keep him contained (much to his foster family's chagrin)! Play pen? No thanks. Baby gate? Not a problem. This tricky guy can saunter and sweet-talk his way around any obstacle, it seems. You wouldn't know he had any injury at all if not for his runway-ready crossover walk. This guy is a total sweetheart, and he's made friends with everyone he's met (including other cats). He loves head scritches, getting brushed, or just taking a nap curled up next to you. His other passion: food! Never met a cat so excited about all types of food as much as this guy. He can be sneaky, so keep your eyes on that hoagie! Because of his injury, Milkshake has 2 meds that he will have to take indefinitely. He's restricted to wet food because of some missing teeth (which sometimes gives him a silly lil smile), but the nice part is that he can take his meds in his food, so mealtime is a breeze! This easy-going guy is tough to faze. Milkshake is a wonderful guy with a great personality, lovely little trill, and a laid-back attitude that would make him a perfect addition to any family. We just recommend he go to a home without small children, who might accidentally be a little rough with him. Schedule to me meet him today — we promise you'll fall in love with this sweet boy!   I'm a relaxed, chirpy little cat looking for a nice human to headbutt.  This is a friendly sweet relaxed pretty cat! She enjoys rubbing and nudging against the legs of any person who is willing to come say hi to her and chatting about her day. Mouse chirps and meows when you come home or wake up in the morning and loves having her chin, head, and back scratched. Mouse is a very laid-back cat. She spends most of the day lounging on the staircase or under a chair, watching people and her kittens. The kittens are almost old enough to go their own way now, so it's time for Mouse to find her own forever home. Mouse's ideal home would have places where she can lounge and watch the house activities, some lovely fun things to scratch (she doesn't go for many toys), and people to chitchat with and headbutt affectionately. When she is being petted and scratched she becomes a little wriggy thing and it's so cute. Mouse seems relaxed around other animals, although she hasn't been specifically checked for temperament with other dogs and cats yet. She would do fine with children because her first line of defense when she is annoyed is squirming away, not using her claws or growling. If you want a very pretty, laid-back, low maintenance, affectionate and chirpy friend, Mouse is your girl!   Age: 4-8 years How I came to PAWS: Found Stray Animal ID#:  A42510562 Location: Broad & Washington Petsmart _____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  Mushy really lives up to his name! This charismatic and affectionate 8 year old is a big softie who makes friends with everyone he meets. A staff and volunteer favorite during his stay at the shelter, Mushy is now showing us what a wonderful companion he is in foster care. This gentle friend is happiest when he's near you and will find a comfy spot to settle down wherever you happen to be. He is meticulous in his grooming and loves getting brushed - he even loves to groom people! Mushy is a big fan of Temptations treats and will even do some tricks for that reward. In his current foster home he has lived with a dog and several cats. He does well with dogs that are respectful of his space. As for cat companions, he would prefer to be the cat in charge but given the right match he would do well with cat friends. Mushy has diabetes, which is easily managed with prescription food and twice daily insulin injections (he's very cooperative with his meds)! This big sweet boy is well worth the effort, and will repay you with so much love. Drop us a line to learn more about Mushy today! Age: 8 yrs. Animal ID#: A31224987 I am not at the shelter.  Little lap dog Nicky would love to snuggle up with you on a chilly evening! Shy at first but then incredibly sweet, Nicky warms to new people and surroundings after taking a moment to adjust. He's a senior who'd love to spend his golden years in a quiet home. He can become a bit anxious when left alone for too long so he would love to have company throughout the day.  We believe Nicky could befriend another small, well-mannered dog, although he would do just fine as a solo pup.  His eyes are a little sensitive and his vision is limited, so he's on longer term drops three times per day to keep them healthy. Nicky doesn't mind playing a bit of "dress up," he came to us fairly matted and now wears stylish doggie coats to keep him warm while he fur grows back in after a nice shave.  Looking for your lucky charm kitty…how about a kitty as sweet as her name…your pot of kittens at the end of the rainbow? Look no further! Patrick O’Kitty and Bonbon are the kitties for you. Patrick (aka Paddy) and Bonbon are great kittens. This ginger and tortie bonded pair are full of fun and adventure. They love to play, and have favorite toys that they likes to carry around. Bonbon even fetches hers (on occasion). This duo likes to play hard and can be a little mischievous. However when they are tuckered out, they love to crawl into a lap and purr themselves to sleep. Both kittens are being raised around other cats and dogs. They get along with everyone. However, their table manners aren’t the best. So, they may have issues with other pets who aren’t good with sharing. Interested? You better act fast! This adorable pair won’t be available for long.  Princess Pupperoni has a delightful name and an even more endearing personality! This sweet senior just wants a home where she can enjoy love and comfort. Princess Pupperoni is an outgoing girl who adores everyone she meets and soaks up attention and petting. We think older children and adults will enjoy neighborhood strolls and frequent play sessions with Princess Pupperoni. Younger children may be a fit, pending a meet and greet.  Princess Pupperoni still enjoys her walks very much, she just likes to keep them shorter. Everyone who meets her thinks she's much younger than she is because she's got so much enthusiasm for life! She's got plenty of pep in her step and enjoys the occasional playful zoomies too! She knows her name and enjoys a good game of fetch in the yard, and walks fairly well on leash once settled. Princess knows "sit," "paw," and how to "go to her place."   Raven is a highly energetic pup! She loves to run and jump and play, so her adopter should be ready for a fun-loving companion ready for lots of activity to keep her mind and body active. Raven does have separation anxiety when left home alone and will thrive in a home where someone is home most of the time - bonus if she'd have a dog friend to keep her company, which helps her a lot for shorter periods of alone time.  We had Raven spend some time with us in our staff office and she was a very good office mate. For the first half-hour she made us laugh by running around the room after her toys, then she settled down nicely on her bed with a chew bone and was content to watch us work. It's easy to imagine her being playful then settling down in a home, too. She's a tiny gal at just 26 pounds. She is wonderful on the leash, and we think she could live with respectful children! Raven also might be okay with other animal friends after meeting them- she's been around both dogs and cats and has done well with both! Raven would love a family that has lots of time to devote to her.   Age: 2-4 years How I came to PAWS: owner surrender due to moving Animal ID#: A43130756  Weight: 26 lbs Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess.  A loveable, cuddly, friendly, playful, biscuit maker who is looking for a his forever family. Sporkchop is a friendly, affectionate and playful kitten who wants nothing more than to be with you. He has been in foster care to heal from some hip and pelvis injuries, getting spoiled and pampered and carried everywhere. Now that he is on the mend, he can't wait to explore and play with you, be it a ball, a mousie, or a wand. When he is done, he would love to take a snooze on your lap, in your arms, or on your computer. Or he may just want a suckle, biscuit making session. Either way, he wants to be with you, your family, a buddy or anyone else he meets. Sporkchop still needs to limit his activity until he fully heals and will need some monitoring by the vet to monitor his progress. This may include some pain medication in the short term. He would do best with a couple or family with older children and cat friendly animals that don't mind a playmate.  Is Sticky a truly gorgeous cat?  Yes.  Is she also a complete goofball, whose tongue sticks out of her mouth most of the time?  Also yes.  She is the perfect combination of majestic and silly!  This beauty queen is estimated to be about 5 years old.  She is missing some teeth (thus the sticky-outy tongue), but is in otherwise great shape, and - bonus - her coat is not the kind that mats up easily.  (Nevertheless, her new person should be willing to give her regular brushings, which she enjoys).  Sticky craves human attention, but has had her little heart broken before, and would benefit from a home where she gets a lot of quiet attention -- rambunctious kids are not her jam!  She wants to make the first move, and would love a family that is willing to give help her build her confidence and trust.  Once you've got it, she rewards you with head butts and long naps on the couch.  She loves to chill out in the window at her foster room, and tear around after her favorite toy, The Crinkly Ball.  Based on her interactions with the resident cats in her foster home, we think Sticky would thrive as an only cat.  Handsome lion Toby has a huge fluffy tail and an even bigger personality! He is quite the explorer and is very playful and intelligent. This curious boy's eyes go wide as soon as soon as something new happens around him. Toby would do best in an adult only home, with someone who understands the play habits of a mighty feline hunter. He would especially love a home where he can be walked on leash & harness for some much needed mental stimulation.  Playful, smarty-pants Toby would love to have a big home to run around in, with a bunch of new toys for the holidays!  Age: 1-2 years How I came to PAWS: Returned by adopter Animal ID#: A43313273 I am not at the shelter, please email my foster parent at ndianno@gmail.com to learn more about me._____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  Toffee is sweet, affectionate and loves to play! Meet Toffee. She takes some time to get used to new people and places, but once she warms up, you'll see that she's a sweet and fun cat.   Toffee was a devoted super-mom to her five kittens, but now that most of them are adopted out, she’s ready to become somebody’s loving, forever friend. Her favorite thing in the world is wand toys. She can be easily startled if there's a lot of commotion, but don't let that fool you -- she loves head rubs, pets, and your company! It's too soon to tell if she'd do well with another cat, dog or children, but she is a little more on the shy side. Once she makes herself at home, she loves to play: chasing toys, scratching the cat tree, galloping around the room.  She’s ready to move into a forever home where she can provide fun and companionship.  Hi there, I'm Tyler! I'm a friendly, curious guy who loves to play and make new friends super fast! Tyler is a handsome guy who loves attention. He likes to rub against your legs until you pet him: scratch his head, stroke his back, or even rub his tummy sometimes -- he loves it all! Tyler likes to spend a lot of the day lounging on the bed or a sofa, but he also likes to explore his home, sometimes jumping up to high places, and play with his foster brother.  Meet Zapp Brannigan, a handsome little orange guy who likes lap time almost as much as he likes nap time. He likes other cats that can match his energy, and loves any and all toys—especially wand ones and laser pointers that can get him jumping and running! Zapp was found as a stray this past Spring and was sick for quite a while, until PAWS vets determined that allergies were prompting his perpetual illness. Zapp is much more stable now on a hypoallergenic diet, and his adopters will need to keep him on that strict diet to avoid relapse into illness again. Zapp's hobbies include doing pigeon impressions, soliciting head pats, and playing tag with the other resident and foster kitties in the home. He's very food motivated (so guard your human snacks!), and toy motivated, so if you need him to do something for you just butter him up with those sweet, sweet bribes. Zapp especially loves forehead rubs, he tolerates kisses, and is a two-time Regional Head Bonk Champion—in his mind, at least. **This animal has additional medical needs that the foster would like to discuss before setting up a meet to adopt.** Age: ~2 years  Reason for surrender: Found as stray Animal ID#: A38288232 Current location: Foster care (this pet is not at the shelter). Please email my foster parent at angela@phillypaws.org for more information about me!  Please apply online by emailing  adoptions@phillypaws.org_____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.
