Bobbie is 2ish-years, 15-pound scruffy terrier mix surrendered to the Brooklyn shelter. He is high-energy! He attaches quickly to his one person, but can take a little while to warm up to groups. Outside, Bobbie is all business and considers it his solemn duty to lead you back home for some zoomies around the house, a pit stop at the pee pad, and then directly into a warm lap or a cozy blanket. Bobbie is a bit of a nervous walker when outside the home and could use some leash-training. Bobbie likes some dogs, especially smaller than him and low-energy - he likes to be in charge. He recently began playing with his neighbor's senior chihuahua! Bobbie loves toys and playing tug-of-war.  We're looking for an experienced dog owner with a childless home for Bobbie as he displays territorial behavior (barking and rushing the door). He could benefit from lots and lots of exercise and strict crating and discipline.  We think a backyard would be a huge benefit, as he loves to run and has lots of energy! Vaccinated for bordatella, dhpp, rabies. Neutered and microchipped. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption or foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. Carter is a 1ish-year old, 10-pounds male terrier mix from the NYC animal shelter. He is so loveable! Carter is playful and loves chasing his toys and is not at all shy in showing affection (with lots of kisses) to his foster mom. He can be a bit vocal at first with new people, but warms up quickly. This scruffy boy is high energy and would be pawfect for an active family or a home with another dog to play with. So far Carter is great with other dogs outside on walks. Because of his past, Carter should not be adopted to a home with young children, but with proper training any guarding issues can be managed. Crate-trained and knows how to use wee pads. Are you the pawfect family for Cuddly Carter? Received rabies, dhpp, bordatella vaccines. Heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered. Gordo is 11ish-years old, 20-pounds male mix breed rescued (along with about 30 other dogs) from a hoarder's apartment in the Bronx. For his entire life, he lived indoors with no sunlight or fresh air in a cramped one-bedroom apartment overflowing with other dogs. Despite these conditions, he is a sweet and gentle soul who loves his people and adores well-behaved children who are respectful to him. Gordo was very scared initially but has really blossomed now with proper care and nutrition. He is slightly cautious but is a trusting, loving boy.  For the first 11 years of his life, Gordo never ever went outside and is still learning to walk on a leash. Due to his lack of exposure to the outside world, he can only be considered for a home with a fenced-in yard, preferably outside of NYC. He will go outside to do his business 4-5 times a day and will need to wear a belly band indoors (Bonus: Gordo comes with his own washable belly bands, coats, sweaters, toys and bed) Sweet Gordo has come so far and is trying so hard. Just two months ago he was barely walking and now he is running around and jumping up on his hind legs and talking and being funny. Lots of talking, particularly when he wants attention! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks???  He LOVES toys particularly his Lamby and can sometimes get possessive over them but only with other dogs (Who can blame him? He’d never had anything of his own when living with 30 other dogs!). Due to this, we would recommend that he either be placed in a home where he is an only dog, or with dogs that are bigger than him (as there is a chance he could bully smaller dogs). He is good with cats - and children! Gordo has a minor heart murmur (vet says his heart is otherwise healthy), and cataracts (he sees well enough to get around), and mild arthritis in his hips. This esteemed senior has early-stage renal disease which has been improved with diet. He cannot be neutered due to his age (mostly because of his impaired kidney function). This is one really special wise old man with a story and a true rescue dog who is ready to bond with his forever family.  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Kenji is a 11 months old, 18 lbs, male puggle. He lives with 2 children (8 and 5) and loves playing with them.  Kenji’s very active and energetic. He LOVES getting all the attention and snuggling with his human(s). Kenji is timid around the cats, but no aggression at all. He uses wee wee pads, but also does his business outside. Puppies require a lof of work, please do research and only apply if you think you're ready to commit!  Kenji is up to date on shots, microchipped, and will be neutered. He was prescribed eyedrops for prolapsed eye socket (common in beagles), which may or may not require surgery later on.  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Little Man is a 6 year old, 17 pound male chihuahua mix who arrived from Tijuana in July. He came into rescue when his military owner had to move away. Little Man is a very special all-around great and sweet dog! A couple weeks after he arrived he was sadly diagnosed with a heart condition and he is looking for a special friend who is around a lot and can follow his medication schedule and really pamper him with love. Full health disclosure - the specialist we took him to gave him up to a year to live, but we are very hopeful after seeing him really blossoming in his foster home after he got started on the medications two months ago. On his last appointment he had improved so much that he can wait 3 months for his next follow-up with the cardiologist.  Little Man is very calm and gentle and spends most of the day sleeping. Once he warms up to you, he will follow you around like a shadow. He likes to snuggle up next to you, but is also independent enough that he will retreat to his bed and sleep through the night in his own space. Because of his condition, he needs to stay low activity - he's happy going for short walks around the block on his own pace. He's very mellow and doesn't really bark, though when his person returns home, he will run laps around the apartment, wagging his tail like crazy while making happy squeaky sounds! He is a funny little one, and will also have a few spikes of energy throughout the day where he loves to play fetch with his toys! He can howl and cry a bit when his favorite people leave him alone for too long - he would be the perfect companion for someone who works from home! He's at his happiest when he is napping the day away in close proximity to his people. He walks great on a leash and is calm around other dogs, and does well with cats also. He's a smart one who learns easily, and is very food motivated! He's pee pad trained within a small area (such as a playpen.) Some of the heart medications he is on are diuretics which means he drinks a lot of water and needs the bathroom frequently. In his foster home, he goes to the backyard door to signal that he needs to pee (about every 2 hours when he is awake.) Medication details: Currently, Little Man is prescribed 4 different heart medications. 3 of them needs to be given twice a day (every 12 hours). 1 of them needs to be given three times a day (every 8 hours).  Vaccinated for dhpp and rabies. Neutered and microchipped. Scarlett is a 7-pound, 3.5ish-year old chihuahua mix originally from LA but has spent her last couple years in NYC. She is a very affectionate dog who craves attention - her favorite is sitting in your lap, but she also loves her Lamby and frolicking in the park. Scarlett is a sweet girl, but doesn't like being home alone and will bark. We think she would do best in a home with another dog, as she seems soothed with a canine buddy. She is a bit of a barker - perhaps her original 'home' as a hoarder dog being surrounded by a houseful of other dogs is the root cause of this. Scarlett is on a special (inexpensive) food for her sensitive tummy and her is also on anti-anxiety medicine - inexpensive and easily prescribed by a vet. Beautiful, loving, wonderful Scarlett will thrive in the pawfect environment for her needs! Up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped and spayed. Heartworm negative and on preventatives. Snow is 2ish-years, 10-pounds male chihuahua mix from the Brooklyn animal shelter. He is a sweet companion but a bit shy initially. Snow is affectionate and loving once he gains your trust. This clingy little boy is weary in unfamilar places, but quietly sits in a safe lap or in his open-door crate (he'll go in on his own, but afraid to be put in by someone). Snow is medium to high energy, plays and behaves as normal as any other adorable cutie would! He walks well on a leash and is getting the hang of house-training. He was previously in foster care with other dogs and cats - fine with dogs (and older kids) but not thrilled about the cat. Snow needs a family who can be patient with his guarding issues and fear of new people.  Vaccinated for rabies, bordatella, and 1 dhpp. Neutered and microchipped.
