She is a bit overwhelmed here at the shelter, so she will need some time and space to adjust to a new home. Meet the sweet Beezus! This lovely lady is social with people and has an adorable squeaky voice when she says hello. It was reported that Beezus had some litter box issues in her most recent home but we believe that was environmental - she has been completely reliable using her litter box while with us and in her prior home. Beezus is generally calm and tends to sleep rather than get into things. She has been living with two cats in an office here and, though she doesn't love them, tolerates them. She lived with a dog once and they didn't care much for each other. While Beezus would probably rather be the only pet, she likely could live with another cat who gave her space. Bella Bella beautiful Bella. This sweet girl, has been waiting for a home for way too long. Bella came to us when the owners decided to move, and couldn't find pitbull friendly housing. Bella has lived with four others dogs, but did not interact with dogs outside the home. Bella was never spayed so she has raised a few litters of puppies. She is not recommended to live in a home with cats or other small animals, as she does have a prey drive which can also extend to mops and vacuums. Bella is a big girl, and can pull hard on the leash, so she will need an owner who is able to handle her. She get very excited about toys. When she is excited, she can get mouthy, so a home without young kids would be best. She is very sweet, and cuddly, and would make a perfect companion on the couch with you as these nights get colder. show less

Bruno may be part of the Subaru Make a Dog's Day "Underdog" program, but he's perfect in our eyes! Bruno came to us all the way from South Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Dorian. Bruno was recently treated for heartworm disease and will need a special adopter who can help him heal from this illness. Dogs healing from heartworm treatment need cage rest, and Bruno will need a very low impact lifestyle for the next 3 to 6 months while he recuperates. Champion is looking for someone to be his Champion. He came to us when no one in his family could take care of him any longer. He is a special needs guy-not only is he considered geriatric on the dog scale and more prone to degenerative diseases, but he also already developed bronchitis. Bronchitis (inflammation of the airways) is typically controlled with anti-inflammatory drugs under the care of a veterinarian. We do not treat this here because this is a high-risk environment for contagious disease and the anti inflammatory drugs increase his risk of disease. He also has an ear infection, which will improve once those anti-inflammatory drugs get started. We are looking for an owner who is willing to put in the time (and expense) necessary to help Champion. He is a wiggly boy, who loves attention. He loves people so much sometimes its hard to get him to focus on anything else! show less

Introducing KJ. This handsome boy came to us when he and the resident cat were not getting along. We don't really have much background information on him. Because of this we are recommending a home with older children. He appears interested in other dogs, but does not have many manners, which can be off-putting to many dogs. He takes a little while in new environments to get comfortable, but then he likes to play with his toys, and chase after balls. He was friendly, but aloof. Once he gets comfortable in a home, he will surely show more of his personality. He is a strong guy, and would definitely benefit from a harness, and some manners training. Although she likes time on her own, she is still affectionate and will give kisses and allow to be softly pet. Lily was reported to have got along with dogs and may do well with a friendly cat with enough space in the home. Now that she has become familiar with our space, she is most often found sitting at the top of our cat tower or curled up in a box. Lola has been super affectionate with everyone she meets, often rolling over for belly rubs, and falling asleep in peoples laps while snoring. Lola does have some things to say when she sees other dogs on leash, and may be selective in the dogs she wants to be friends with. She has a good history with kids in the home, and did not show any resource guarding at the time of assessment. Lola's previous owner reports that she does best on grain free food, and that she is housetrained. Magic 8 Ball is a Subaru Underdog! "He loves unconditionally, and is looking for a person who does too." To make this happen Subaru is sponsoring his adoption fee and The Anti-Cruelty Society is helping with vet care costs for the next year! Magic is a big boy, who can be exuberant in his affection. He is a strong guy and walks best on a harness. He will need an outlet for his energy, and his love of toys will definitely help. Magic 8 Ball has made some dog friends here at the shelter, but has a very rough-and-tumble play style which won't jive at most dog parks. Magic 8 Ball also has some allergies that have been managed with Apoquel. This can be expensive (about $80 a month), but is working well for our big guy. Margot was brought in due to some litterbox issues, after being abandoned with the pervious owner's roommate. Our vets were unable to determine the cause of urinating out of the box, and feel like it is likely related to stress. New owners will need to work with their veterinarian to determine a care plan, that may include more play time, extra litter boxes, special diet or stress reducing medication. Margot would do best in an low-key adult home. Margot is described as a sweet cat who likes to ball with toys, and do her own thing. Old man Roy is the epitome of what an awesome experience adopting an older dog looks like. Not only is his adoption fee already sponsored, he is one cool dog. He is laid back, but still loves cuddles and going for walks. Don't underestimate Roy--he still has a lot of spunk left in him. He came to us during the evacuation of Myrtle Beach due to flooding, which was all the way back in May. Zoom Zoom Zoey! This girl is ready for some fun. She has had a few adoption fails, as she is looking for a special home that will be patient and willing to work with some of her quirks. Zoey can be selective in the dogs she wants to interact with. She has a lot to say when she is on leash and sees other dogs, so high rises, or multi-unit apartment dwellings may pose a difficult challenge. She has lived successfully with smaller dogs in the past, so it may just require a good match and lots of management. She is an active dog, and wants to play-but she also takes some time to get used to new people and the environment. Once you win her over, she can be very affectionate. At 32lbs, she is the perfect size for many households. She is food motivated, and smart so that will definitely help her when it comes to training. show less
