About Kody von Kohlen

Kody von Kohlen is a beautiful 1-2 year-old German Shepherd. This beautiful young girl is so sweet and loving with people she knows, she'll wag a hello and lean in close for affection. She can be unsure with strangers, however, so needs a little time to get to know someone new. Kody enjoys taking strolls with you outside and is good on the leash. She is excellent with other dogs and gets so happy when she meets them; in fact, she seems to derive confidence from dogs - she starts wagging her tail and walks great alongside them. Not surprisingly, Kody does equally as great in doggy playgroups, which she enters happily and ready to go. She’s super friendly and can be playful with her furry friends and has the time of her life. She also does well sharing her run. This treasure can be yours if you are ready to give her your heart. Kody von Kohlen is in a foster home, offsite, and is not on location at the rescue. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Kody von Kohlen YOU MUST FILL AN APPLICATION AT OUR WEBSITE: www.sheprescue.org Application link: http://www.sheprescue.org/Application_to_Adopt_a_Dog%20Main.html Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Axel von Apolda is a very handsome 1-2 year old Shepherd mix. Axel started his journey to Westside not knowing what life was really about. He previously lived in a rural area where we suspect he was not exposed to many people or different situations. Our professional trainer is working with this special boy who needs an equally special owner -- one who is experienced with dogs, as well as calm and matter-of-fact versus sentimental or overly-affectionate -- one who will continue Axel's transformation, together with some complementary training that Westside will provide in his new adults-only home. Axel has come so far. He now starts his day calmly and happily when he leaves his kennel. His leash manners, with just a little reminder, are great and he takes in all the smells of his new life as he walks down the street. Axel enjoys playgroups and interacts with all the dogs. He gravitates to the calmer dogs who match his personality and even enjoys playing with them. Those over-the-top ones, he avoids. At our rescue facility Axel has become an affectionate boy with the staff. He needs a little time to become comfortable with new people, so he needs someone willing to be patient with his progress. Axel will be so grateful for a confident owner whom he can trust to expose him to new experiences in life. Betty von Burk is a delightful 16 month old sable German Shepherd. Beautiful Betty is a gleeful girl with a perky personality. Her smile and cheery nature can light up the room. In playgroup, she invites any dog to play and has the time of her life in the yard. She walks well on leash and loves to have a doggy friend walk next to her. Alert, curious and responsive, her willingness to please makes her easily trainable. She already knows the sit command and takes treats gently. Being a young dog, obedience training will be important and something she’ll no doubt enjoy and excel at. This loving girl would do best in a German Shepherd knowledgeable, quiet, calm adult only home - a doggy friend to share her love of fun would be amazing. She’s good in the house and probably even housebroken. Sadly, Betty probably hadn’t had much exposure to the world. Socialization will be important to develop her management skills and to become accustomed to new experiences. Patience, support and positive reinforcement are the keys to building her confidence level. She will surely blossom into an incredible lovely lady. Betty really wants to be the best she can be and is eager to start her journey! Bonnie von Bohlen is a stunning 1-2 year old German Shepherd. A classic beauty with soulful eyes, Bonnie will no doubt turn heads. Our mid-energy girl walks well on leash, on occasion a bit apprehensive about new surroundings and new people. Soon, however, she is ready to be your partner, so much so that her excitement gets the best of her and she may pull but then settles into a rhythm. Bonnie’s confidence increases when she hangs out with other dogs, either walking in a pack or romping in a playgroup; her curious nature and playful demeanor make her the life of the party. And if there’s water bowl or kiddie pool in sight, you can bet Bonnie will be the first user, waiting for her friends to join. This sweet girl will do well in a home with another dog in residence, so let’s get this party started. Brandie von Brakel is a beautiful 3-year-old German Shepherd mix – a special girl who needs a special owner. She's a sleek lady with a striking face and sparkling eyes. Her leash manners are good and, when needed, she listens attentively to corrections. House-trained and intelligent, Brandie already knows her basic commands and is eager to please. This sweet and playful girl needs a confident, kind and no-nonsense female owner who will set boundaries and who will not provide an overdose of physical affection, which causes Brandie to become overly protective of her owner and aggressive towards outsiders. She should be the only dog in the family. Our Miss Agility can jump a 5-foot fence so a secure environment is important. Westside’s professional trainer will help to transition Brandie into your home. Buttercup von Berching is a gorgeous 3-year-old plush-coated German Shepherd mix. She is regal and has the most amazing presence, you definitely turn heads strolling by with well-behaved Buttercup. She is sweet as well as beautiful, she likes to follow her people around at home. She loves her foster home surrounded by other dogs, her pack gives her the security she needs to be happy. She loves having someone home! Buttercup seems fine with little dogs she has met also. She has been great meeting kids, has been trustworthy alone in the house, is crate-trained, and takes treats very gently. She is housebroken as well, Buttercup can be on the unsure side with new dogs, so she needs a little time to adjust to new furry acquaintances. Once comfortable, she enjoys playing with dogs she knows in her foster home, and eventually snuggles close to them. She'll do best with non-pushy pups, as she can give a little warning if a dog she doesn't know gets too close. No issues with men, she is a daddy’s girl in her foster home and loves to snuggle close! Buttercup von Berching is in a foster home, offsite, and is not on location at the rescue. Chewy von Celle is a beautiful 1-2 year-old German Shepherd. This big boy with the soft ears and sweet smile is quite the sharp fellow. Medium-energy Chewy enjoys his walks and is quite observant, always keeping an eye on what or who may be ahead. He is apprehensive towards unfamiliar people and surroundings, and will do best with a shepherd-experienced owner who can introduce him to new faces and friends both slowly and cautiously. With patience, Chewy becomes an easygoing, well-behaved boy who can be very sweet with those he knows, eating up any affection you’ll give him. Off leash, Chewy seems to enjoy the company of dogs (but not cats). He really enjoys canine playgroups, roaming around with his pals and soaking in all the playtime he can fit into his busy schedule. Chewy is loving and attentive, and is seeking a home that will make the most of these assets. Chica von Celle is a gorgeous 4-5-year-old sable German Shepherd. Get ready to meet the tri-pawed who isn’t letting three legs slow her down! We are having to turn some people down for Chica because she loves to get out and be busy! She truly felt liberated when her painful leg was removed, there was no possible way of saving it. Animal control had taken her from her former home and called Westside for help! Nothing sad about this girl, she is thrilled for every pain free day she has! Chica is sweet, affectionate, fun-loving and happy. She does well with non-pushy dogs in her playgroups (she’ll give a good air snap to those pushy types – Chica says “no thank you!") And she's a no for cats. While this sweetheart of a girl is still healing from her surgery, she wants you to know that her fur is coming back quickly – she won’t have any visible scars, and she can’t wait to show you what a tri-pawed is capable of. If you’re looking for a fun-loving gal to take home, Chica can’t wait to meet you! Chica von Celle is in a foster home, offsite, and is not on location at the rescue.
