Meet Basalt, a wonderful Lab Mix from Mexico who is now living the life in the comfort of a foster home while he awaits his forever family! He was originally spotted as a stray in Ensenada. He was wearing an old dirty sweatshirt and collar. Basalt was clearly starving, but still skittish and reluctant to receive help at first. Our local rescue partner persevered until she was eventually able to get him into her car to get him the help he needed. Fast forward to today, and he is thriving in foster care with 2 TBL alums. Basalt is about 3-4 years old (estimated DOB April 2016), and is a great medium size of about 40 pounds. Basalt starts out timid, but it is all an act for the first few days, then his true personality, which is playful and affectionate comes out. He does amazing with other dogs, takes correction well from both humans and canines and is a very quick learner with positive reinforcement. He is fully housebroken and knows how to use a dog door. He is also crate trained, rides well in a car and knows basic obedience commands. He absolutely loves to go on walks and hikes and is very well mannered on a leash. He has a great medium energy, so he is happy to zoom around the yard, or cuddle with his humans, whatever is appropriate for the moment. He is non-destructive in the house and can be left with free roam. He is sweet and well mannered and very anxious to please. He is a good boy and, if he is given the brief time he needs to get comfortable in a new environment he is a perfect companion! Burgess is a sweet, cuddly, and playful 2-year-old lowrider (Basset Hound/Mastiff mix), weighing in at 50 pounds. Burgess has yet to meet a dog or human that he does not love, and there is not a mean bone in his body. Burgess did not grow up with lots of boundaries, so he is learning what those are in his foster home. He is very curious, so he will get into everything if you let him. He is also a huge cuddle bug - as long as there is a human or pillow, he is there. In his dream home he will be able to sleep in the bed with his human(s). He is not a huge fan of the crate, but he is getting better with it. His basic training is going well, but he will need a fit owner as Burgess can pull on the leash and he is strong. This has been a big focus in his foster home and he is making great progress. His adopter will need to continue this leash training with him. He is fully housetrained and loves to play fetch in the backyard or tug of war with his 4-legged foster sister. If you are looking for a lovebug who needs just a bit more training on boundaries, then this is your guy! With continued training, he will make the best sidekick for any lucky owner! To initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. It’s easy to love young dogs, but senior dogs need homes too! Older dogs like Captain Crunch here have the toughest time of all in the shelter system because he is constantly being overlooked by potential families. He may be slow and scarred, but he is still sweet as can be and more than capable of being a loving companion. Captain Crunch enjoys going on walks, exploring sights and sounds, chewing on a few blades of grass, and getting some chin scratches in between. While Captain Crunch is a favorite among our volunteer walkers, it’s not the same as being able to sleep on a dog bed inside a warm home to call his own. He is 11 years young (estimated DOB January 2009), and he has been at The Barking Lot for over a year now. Crunchy, as he is affectionately dubbed, is also great with other dogs. He currently plays in a group with all ''littles'', and it's the cutest thing. Many of his little buddies are puppies and they help keep him young. Crunchy has bad arthritis and he is on a special diet. Do you have room in your home and heart for Captain Crunch? If so, please submit an application on our website today - he is waiting for you!If you’d like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below.
