Meet Capricorn! Capricorn is a sweet and gentle Soi Dog who was rescued by our partner rescue Soi Dog Foundation. She flew to us all the way from Thailand, and due to her shyness, we thought she would enjoy a stint in a foster home. Turns out, we were right! Capricorn is doing very well in a home environment. She is completely housebroken, likes going on walks, loves treats, and enjoys sleeping in the bed. Capricorn gets along very well with other dogs, and currently shares her foster home with 2 other dogs. She is shy around new people, so it does take a little bit of time to get to know her. However, once she opens up, she is a very loyal and loving girl. She also has a fun-loving and silly side to her. When she gets excited for walks, she will do a bunch of play bows in anticipation. Capricorn enjoys playing with soft toys, and her favorite is a stuffed moose. Occasionally she would steal a sock and hide it in her bed for safekeeping. Capricorn was estimated to be born in July 2012, and she is a great medium size of about 35-40 pounds. If you would like to give Capricorn a forever home, let us know!If you'd like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Cupido is absolutely heaven-sent, though he made his way to us after having endured some pretty awful circumstances. He came from Nakhon Panhom as a result of the 2018 Rabies Scare in Thailand. He had undoubtedly been someone's house dog. When he was found by our rescue partner Soi Dog Foundation, his eyes were terribly infected and non-visual. He also had a problem with one of his kidneys, so it had to be removed along with both of his eyes, but his remaining kidney is fully functioning. None of this stops Cupido from being the most lovable little man this side of the Mississippi given his massive following at Soi Dog! This 8-years-young pup has a silken coat that feels like velvet and a huge smile to boot. What he's lacking in sight, he makes up for in personality. Cupido is curious, obedient, loving, and makes a great little companion. He is a nice compact size at just 18 pounds. He is completely housebroken and even knows how to use the doggie door. Despite not being able to see, Cupido is ready to accompany you anywhere as he likes riding shotgun in the car. He's a pretty easygoing and low-maintenance little man. His favorite activity is being picked up for belly rubs while oohing and ahhing. He’s had many a duet with his foster mom as he'll repeat back anytime she joins in the cooing. Cupido isn't the most athletic guy, but he probably has an award-winning nose based on his sniffing capabilities on his walks. At home, other than snoot around the kitchen, his favorite thing to do is to chew on a bully stick in a resting frog position. While he is kid-friendly, he doesn't require that type of companionship. He may grumble a bit initially when meeting new four-legged friends, but trust us when we say he's all talk and no action as it's an over-compensation for his lack of sight. This loving little man has loads of personality and be far warned: to know Cupido is to love Cupido, so be prepared to fall in love! Dally is a sweet and shy Tiger Jindo mix with a sad beginning. He was found on the streets of Apple Valley with his mom, dad Darry, and 3 siblings, including Ponyboy and Sodapop. They were all wary of humans and appeared to have limited familiarity with them. The family was taken in to the local shelter, and the mom and smallest sibling were adopted quickly. The other 4 made it to TBL where they received socialization while waiting their forever homes. Dally is the shyest of the bunch, slowest to trust, and also the most unique looking. He has a handsome caramel swirl coat and beautiful, soulful green-brown eyes. Dally will need a patient and loving family to help him warm up to the world and come out of his fear-hardened shell. He will be worth the time and effort though, as he is quite the gentle, loving, and sweet and easygoing pup with his foster mom. Dally would do best in a home with another dog to show him the ropes and prove to him that his humans can be trusted. Dally is a great medium size of about 30 pounds, and he is about 6 and a half years old as of spring 2019. We would love to see this Classic Barker go to a well-deserved forever home! There is hardly anyone more enchanting than Enchilada! Meet Enchilada, the beautiful golden-eyed charmer. We originally rescued Enchilada from a shelter in Coachella Valley. She was adopted out into a home, but was recently returned to us through no fault of her own. Her previous owner got cancer and had to move into a hospice, so she could no longer care for Enchilada. When Enchilada first returned to TBL, she was very insecure. We are not sure whether it was her change of circumstance, or the stress of what was going on in her last home, but as a result, we moved her into a foster home to help her get some much-needed confidence and structure. We are pleased to share that Enchilada is doing fantastic in foster care! In her foster home, Enchilada is very well-behaved, sweet, docile and highly affectionate. Enchilada is housebroken, crate trained, knows all of her basic commands and can learn any new command with just a few repetitions. After an initial adjustment period, she now gets along very well with her two canine foster brothers. She does not seem to have a preference to men or women and is happy to get attention from anyone! Enchilada is not accustomed to being around children, and would therefore do best in an adults-only household. She does not have any separate anxiety, and she is not destructive at all. She absolutely loves walks and would be a great dog to take on hikes, go for a run, or stroll around the neighborhood. She is also happy to sit on the couch and binge watch movies with you. Enchilada is a beautiful dog with a very soft and unique multi-colored coat, and she is a great medium size of around 45-50 pounds. She is currently about 4 and a half years old (estimated DOB November 2014), and she is looking for a forever home to call her own! This sweet little lady is hoping that 2019 will bring her the good fortune of a forever home! Meet Fortune, a playful and vivacious pup who is sure to brighten up your day. Fortune was rescued from a shelter in California City. By all volunteer accounts, she is a slam dunk pooch. Fortune is just under 4 years old as of early summer 2019 (estimated DOB July 2015), and she still that youthful wiggliness that puts a smile on everyone's face. Fortune is fantastic with other dogs young and old, big or small, as she does not discriminate. She enjoys going on walks with volunteers, roaming around the play yard with her pals, going on group hikes, and partaking in a game of tug-of-war with gusto. She is a great medium size of roughly 45 pounds. Fortune has a short black coat with white accents that requires very little grooming. She does quite well on the leash, and she knows a myriad of commands such as sit, stay, and even high-five (where she’ll actually jump up to high-five you with her paw). Her friendly, outgoing and fun-loving personality makes her the perfect companion for any family. Fortune can't wait to meet you and shower you with her signature kisses! Do you have a friend in your circle that you can always count on? The loyal one who has your back not matter what? That's our handsome hero Hercules. Looking for a silly, outgoing, fun-loving Bassett Hound and Boston Terrier mix to brighten your days? Then Heron may just be your guy! Heron came to us from a shelter in San Bernardino County, and he quickly made fast friends with everyone both two and four legged. Meet Joe, a sweet and docile soul inside and out! Joe was saved by our partner rescue Save Korean Dogs. He was bred as dog meat to be sold in the Korean dog meat trade. Many of these dogs were born into total darkness, never felt sunshine on their backs, or knew any human interactions as they were kept in cages raised above the ground. This was life as Joe knew it, and as such, he was very afraid of human touch when he first arrived at The Barking Lot in November. As you may have seen in our social media videos early on, Joe would cower and flinch if you touched his fur, and he did not understand the concept of leash walking in the slightest. Fast forward a few months, and Joe is making us all incredibly proud with his progress and how far he has come! As of April 2018, he has been promoted to one of our front office greeters. Joe is blossoming in foster care with our director, coming up to volunteers who come in and out of the office to say hello, and going on daily walks which he has grown to love. One of his new favorite American pastimes is getting Puppuccinos at the neighborhood Starbucks every morning with his foster siblings. Joe is still bashful around new people, but he comes more and more out of his shell with each passing week. He is a curious, playful, mild-mannered, and engaging boy. Joe's birthday is July 12,2016. He is a great medium size of about 45-50 pounds. If you would like to give Joe the forever home he is so deserving of, let us know! If you are a fan of Dante from the Disney Pixar movie Coco, then you are sure to love his real life doppelganger, Kyle! Kyle was saved by our partner rescue Soi Dog Foundation and came to us all the way from Thailand in May 2018. He was in pretty bad shape when he first arrived at the SDF facility, and was clearly neglected and mistreated in his past life. Since his unique hairless coat requires some extra care, we have placed him in foster with one of our volunteers in the meantime, and he is thriving! Kyle is currently learning a lot about daily life in an American home and what it is like to be an American dog. He is a friendly, engaging, and affectionate fella who enjoys being pet. He likes to gives big sloppy kisses on your face if presented with an opportunity. Kyle loves food and he is very treat motivated, which helps him pick up training at a good pace. His foster parents are working on housetraining with him, and he has already learned how to sit and perform certain touch commands in a short time span. Kyle shares his foster home with 2 other dogs, and while he gets along quite well with them, he prefers to stay out of their way and observe their interactions. He enjoys his walks and has no trouble keeping up on nice long strolls and hikes. Skincare wise, Kyle would need sunscreen if he is going to be out in the sun for long periods of time, but otherwise, the occasional application of lotion whenever his skin feels dry goes a long way. His foster mom ordered him his own doggie sunsuit to wear on outings - he definitely rocks that look! Kyle is roughly 4 years old and tips the scales at about 55 pounds. His foster mom recently DNA tested him so it will be interesting to see what the results comes back with in the coming weeks! If you are looking for a young, friendly, easygoing, energetic, happy, sweet and playful pup, then Lerdit is your guy! Lerdrit originally came to us from Mexico. He was found as a stray hanging outside of a secondhand store in Baja California as a puppy. Today, 1-year-old Lerdrit is known as an excellent hiking buddy and he is currently loving life as a foster dog! Here is what his foster mom has to say about his time in foster so far: 'We have been fostering Lerdrit (who we call Spud, or when he is a particularly good boy, Super Spud), for a few weeks now and one thing is clear: he is all about the fun. He is very young, really just barely out of puppyhood and I believe that we are the first house that he has lived in, so he has a learning curve. He is fully and reliably crate trained and will go into his crate to sleep when he is tired and has never had an accident in his crate. We crate him at night and when we are out of the house. He taught himself how to use our dog door, but he still needs to be watched since he is working on, but not fully house trained. He is making great progress though and knows he is supposed to go outside, but sometimes when he is distracted, or there is too much good stuff going on in the house, he forgets. He has done terrific with his foster brothers who really enjoy playing with him. There is quite a bit of very friendly wrestling going on and I think all three have enjoyed each other's company. He is learning general house manners, like just because he can reach it doesn't make it his, and to sit and wait when leaving for walks, entering the house after walks, or getting his food. His leash manners are pretty good and he is non-reactive to dogs, people, bikes, etc. He does have an interest in bunnies, which I believe if he were allowed to pursue, would not be in the best interest of the bunny. He also has a note from his former foster home in Mexico that he is not a fan of cats. He has been great with all dogs and all people though. He is very affectionate and will snuggle up with me on the couch. He shares his toys and when he needs to settle down we can give him an antler or a nylabone and he will lay down and chew it for quite a long time. He would be an amazing family dog. He would be fine in a home with other dogs as long as the other dogs are willing to play with him. He plays fetch and tug and is about the happiest pup I have ever met. He is also a great size of about 40lbs, although he may fill out more. He has a silky smooth coat that is a beautiful brindle and very easy to take care of and eye-catching. He is a really attractive, very athletic dog who is lots of fun to have around!'If you’d like to meet this pup, please submit an adoption application at www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Lormark came to us from Thailand, where he was saved by our partner rescue Soi Dog Foundation. He is a sweet and interactive guy who happily greets volunteers when they come into the play yard. He loves attention but isn't overbearing about it, and he enjoys hanging out with people as well as with dogs. At The Barking Lot, Lormark shares a room with several other dogs and has a play group of about 6 or 8 dogs and never seems to have an issue with anyone. He recently attended our Barks and Brews event where he was around hundreds of other dogs and people and he was very well-behaved, social, and tolerant of all the noise and attention. This handsome 3-year-old pup soaked up all the affection received and just enjoyed being out and about. Have you been longing for a gentle giant in your life? We've got your match! Mont Blanc is as classy as his name suggests. 2-year-old Bonk (as he's known by his foster family) was rescued from a kill shelter in San Jacinto. He had a congenitally deformed right forearm dubbed his little chicken wing. One amputation surgery later, Mont Blanc is fully recovered and ready for his forever family. And as it turns out, he is pretty darn perfect! He is curious and playful, but he also knows how to chill and relax. He is fantastic with other dogs, and he currently shares his home with other TBL pups. Mont Blanc does well by himself, but he does enjoy the company of his foster siblings. He is an early riser, but content to go for a walk or hang out with his kong until the rest of the family gets up. He is housetrained, knows sit, and how to lay down and wait for his food. Noodles is such a character! This sweet little lady was rescued from a shelter in Downey, California. She is just 12 lbs (give or take), about 7 years young, and a ton of fun. Noodles is currently enjoying life as a foster dog, and she is doing great! She is totally potty-trained, and enjoys freedom to roam about the house when her foster family is gone as she has also proven to be non-destructive. She gets along well with other dogs and enjoys relaxing near her foster brother, who happens to be a TBL alum. She also loves being near her humans, and is always available for a Netflix cuddle session or to help you with work from the comfort of your lap. She enjoys neighborhood walks and has had a few excursions to the beach and enjoyed meeting new dogs on her walks and is great on a leash. She is a sweet pup in a social environment, calmly enjoying a bone or people watching while her foster parents eat dinner or brunch. She's open to new activities and recently went paddle boarding with her foster mom. She loves to play with her toys and is polite about enjoying breakfast and snacks (no table begging and she gently takes treats). She's been learning some basic commands like sit and stay. While she does have some initial distrust of kids and men, she is doing very well with building rapport with her foster dad and would easily learn to love her humans once she feels comfortable in her new home. Noodles is a little rockstar of a dog and would be a great addition to a home with another pup, or just humans to shower her with all the attention! If you'd like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. How she found herself in the shelter system in San Pedro beats us, but she has come a long way since her rescue. Today, Pinky is housetrained, knows her basic commands, knows fetch, is good with dogs, and loves to gives kisses to her favorite human companions. She does need a firm and experienced owner who can show her right from the beginning that Pinky is not in charge, but once you set those initial boundaries with her, she is just like any other happy-go-lucky pooch. Pinky likes to spend her time roaming the play yards, wrestling with her canine buddies, or chasing after toys you throw for her. She also enjoys going on walks or skateboard-walks with some of our volunteers! Pinky is a playful, active, loving, and great dog who would make a wonderful hiking or running buddy. This is the story of Shake, a Korean dog meat trade survivor who has come a long long way, both physically and figuratively speaking! Shake was saved by our partner rescue Save Korean Dogs. She was bred as dog meat to be sold in the Korean dog meat trade. Many of these dogs were born into total darkness, never felt sunshine on their backs, or knew any human interactions as they were kept in cages raised above the ground. This was life as Shake knew it, and as such, she was incredibly afraid of everyone and everything when she first arrived at The Barking Lot. She would run from all volunteers, cower in corners, and would work herself into a frenzy if anyone ever tried to get a leash around her neck. To her credit, she was always great around other dogs, with whom she felt a sense of familiarity and comfort. With lots of consistency and patience, Shake would eventually stop running away at the sight of people, and would even allow volunteers to pet her without flinching. Then, as you may have seen on our social media videos, she began to learn how walk down the sidewalk on a lead! Slowly but surely, she got more and more used to daily routines. Today, Shake is enjoying the life of a foster dog with our director, and she has wowed us all with her progress. For a dog that was deemed to be feral upon arrival, Shake has made leaps and bounds of progress in just a few short months. Today, you can see her amongst our front office greeters, coming up to sniff people curiously as they went about their business. At home, Shake is very obedient, inquisitive, and engaging. She is 100% crate trained (as is the case with all of our Korean dog meat trade survivors - they recognize the crate as their safe place), and has never had an accident at home to date. She caught onto the tight schedule that the rest of the pack ran on and assimilated with ease. One of her new favorite American pastimes is getting Puppuccinos at the neighborhood Starbucks every morning with her foster siblings. Shake has been cat tested and she has done as well around felines as she has around other dogs. Though still incredibly shy around new people, she is coming more and more out of her shell with each passing week. Shake is just a few months over 1 year old, and she is a great medium size of 30 pounds. If you would like to give Shake the forever home she is so deserving of, let us know! Shep is proof of the enduring qualities of dogs. This handsome boy has been awaiting his forever family since 2012, and he hasn’t given up hope! Originally rescued by an organization that could not care for the dogs it had, Shep was confined to a dog run in the desert with only another dog for companionship day and night. When we brought him to The Barking Lot, Shep was very hesitant and shy with people. However, within a day, Shep emerged from under the table to take treats out of the hand of a volunteer, and within two days, he was wagging his tail at the sight of people. Since then, Shep now greets us at the office window, gives doggie kisses, and willingly goes on walks with volunteers that are strangers to him. Though he is a little jumpy around quick movements, Shep shows that he does want to become everyone's friend. Shep responds very well to the example of other dogs and would probably do best in a home with another dog who is confident and can mentor him in the socialization he didn't receive as a young pup. Despite his initial fear of new people, Shep has never displayed a hint of aggression. He is truly as gentle and kind-hearted as they come. On most days, you can probably catch Shep fulfilling his duties as a front office greeter at TBL. Shep is in his element on pack hikes and group trips to Fiesta Island. Once Shep has had some time to warm up to you, it's not hard to see that Shep is a sweet, loving, affectionate, and easygoing boy. Shep is a medium-sized boy weighing under 60 pounds. Shep is 6 years old as of 2017 and he has many years ahead of him. He has come so far already that it will just take being in a loving home to bring him fully out of his shell. Though he's the type of guy who generally shies away from the limelight, Shep deserves all the recognition in the world for being a wonderful dog. If your heart has a soft spot for shy dogs who bloom into lifelong loyal companions, then Shep may just be the perfect dog for you! Sparrow is the last of the Pirate Puppies awaiting his home! He was born in April 2018 to a sweet Schnauzer mama. Sparrow is our special boy and holds a big place in the hearts of all the TBL volunteers. You see, Sparrow is a distemper survivor. He took the viral illness the hardest of his siblings, and it left him with a pretty sever involuntary muscle tic that renders him incapable of walking. It’s as if he has a case of chronic hiccups. As such, Sparrow is a very low-key and low-maintenance pup as he spends most of his day napping and people-watching from his favorite cushion. Sparrow has been affectionately nicknamed 'inchworm', and if you met him in person, you would understand. While it can be heart-wrenching for some to see a puppy with an ongoing muscle twitch, rest assured, Sparrow is in the company of many puppy playmates and is showered by lots of attention from volunteers. He is a gentle, even-keeled, quiet, loving, and sweet boy. There is a chance that with time, his muscle tic can diminish somewhat in severity. For now, Sparrow will patiently await the right family who can see past his disability and love him for the sweet sweet soul that he is!If you'd like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Ask any volunteer and they'll tell you they've hardly ever met a more sweet, gentle, and docile pup than Tiger! This handsome boy came to us from China through a partnership we have with Shanghai Animal Rescue. Tiger was badly beaten and abused by someone who mangled one of his back legs beyond repair. As such, Tiger only has 3 working legs and employs a bit of a hop when he walks. Despite the hand he was dealt, Tiger is an extremely sweet, friendly, and easygoing pup who is amiable to every human who comes across his path. Shelter living was harder on Tiger than most given his mobility, and he was also often picked on by other more dominant dogs given his submissive nature. He suffered an injury to his ear which left it permanently bent, though we think that just adds to his endearing charm! Tiger spent some time as our front office greeter where he got along easily with all dogs big and small. Due to his high interest in cats, he would do best in a feline-free home. Tiger is currently in foster care and he is an absolute angel! He is incredibly easy, laidback, loyal, and loving. Content to lay next to you while you are working or watching TV, Tiger also does great at home by himself. His foster parents take him on several short walks a day to help strengthen his back leg. A vet assessed his 'nubbin' and advised that it is not medically necessary to amputate it as it doesn't negatively impact his daily activities. Tiger is completely housebroken, and despite weighing over 75 pounds, he is a true gentle giant without a mean bone in his body. He turns 4 in this summer (estimated DOB July 2015). He has the classic German Shepherd double coat which will require maintenance from time to time, and it helps that Tiger is extremely well-behaved and patient during bath time. Everyone who meets him comments on how very sweet he is, so don't miss out on your chance to meet this incredible soul for yourself! The name Titus carries multiple meanings across different cultures and times with translations ranging from: giant, honorable, saved, and pleasing. All of which are quite fitting for this sturdy, noble, pleasant, good-natured, and timelessly handsome boy. Titus joined the TBL temporary barking family from Mexico in August 2017. He was abandoned in his house in Tijuana by his previous owners, emaciated, and completely covered with fleas and ticks. Titus was placed in temporary foster care before he made his way across the border to TBL. By all volunteer accounts, Titus is a very friendly, sweet, athletic, playful, fun-loving, and well-balanced pooch. He gets along quite well with other dogs and people. We have reason to suspect that he is already housebroken (or will be very to housebreak) as he knows to do his business when taken out on grass during walks. Titus is a robust boy tipping the scales around 70 pounds. He has a short and low-maintenance coat that will be very easy for upkeep in the grooming department. Titus is estimated to be around 2 years old, and he would love a forever home to call his own! If you'd like to meet Titus, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoption-application. Meet Zinnia, who came to us from Thailand in December 2018 just in time for Christmas! This sweet and shy girl arrived very reserved and skittish, so we thought some time in foster would do her some good. Unsurprisingly, she has been thriving! Here is an update from her foster mom: 'Zinnia is definitely a gentle soul. She is still very much scared of people and other dogs so she would rather avoid any contact, but if she has no other choice (i.e. no possibility to run away and hide), she will patiently wait through the situation, usually adopting 'if I won't move they won't see me' technique. She LOVES to cuddle. She loves relaxing next to me while I read a book and she is my regular Netflix partner! We watched the entire season of Our Planet and she seemed hooked. She loves to snuggle next to her human - these are the most relaxed moments I've ever seen her. However, if any guests present, she would rather observe from the distance, from her hidden safe place. She is absolutely housebroken. She LOVES walking, although sudden noises or shadows still scare her.It took her a while to get comfortable and start sniffing around, but once she started she just can't stop. She perks up when she sees a rabbit or a possum and her chasing instinct kicks in. Places with a lot of humans or dogs are still a little overwhelming for her, but little steps - she will get there! She definitely needs a human with a lot of patience and empathy, someone who has the time to help her get out of her shell and overcome the fears. It may be a little too early for her to enter a dynamic, loud, children-filled environment, but I'm sure she can adjust provided she gets enough space to hide away to calm down her emotions, undisturbed. I bring her to work with me and she's great!' Zinnia sounds like a pretty perfect houseguest to us! She is about 4 and a half years old as of spring 2019, and is a great medium size of 30-35 pounds. If you'd like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below.
