Meet Basalt, a wonderful Lab Mix from Mexico who is now living the life in the comfort of a foster home while he awaits his forever family! He was originally spotted as a stray in Ensenada. He was wearing an old dirty sweatshirt and collar. Basalt was clearly starving, but still skittish and reluctant to receive help at first. Our local rescue partner persevered until she was eventually able to get him into her car to get him the help he needed. Fast forward to today, and he is thriving in foster care with 2 TBL alums. Basalt is about 3-4 years old (estimated DOB April 2016), and is a great medium size of about 40 pounds. Basalt starts out timid, but it is all an act for the first few days, then his true personality, which is playful and affectionate comes out. He does amazing with other dogs, takes correction well from both humans and canines and is a very quick learner with positive reinforcement. He is fully housebroken and knows how to use a dog door. He is also crate trained, rides well in a car and knows basic obedience commands. He absolutely loves to go on walks and hikes and is very well mannered on a leash. He has a great medium energy, so he is happy to zoom around the yard, or cuddle with his humans, whatever is appropriate for the moment. He is non-destructive in the house and can be left with free roam. He is sweet and well mannered and very anxious to please. He is a good boy and, if he is given the brief time he needs to get comfortable in a new environment he is a perfect companion! Meet Biscuit, a 10-month-old cutie who came to us from Mexico. She and her brother Bender belonged to an elderly man who had no means to provide them with proper care. They were both underfed and constantly in danger of being run over by cars as they were often left outside on the streets all day. A good samaritan took pity on them. She fed them, took them to get their vaccinations, and eventually helped get them into our rescue partner's network. Both siblings are currently available for adoption at The Barking Lot. Biscuit, the more shy of the pair, recently went into foster care in the hope that she will learn to come out of her shell. Fast forward to a few weeks in, and Biscuit has made some great progress! Here’s what her foster mom has to say: “She is housebroken and uses the doggie door. No accidents in the house! She has the freedom to roam the house inside and out. We have a cat and Biscuit is very curious of him. My cat gets along fine with our other pups but is cautious with Biscuit. I think just because biscuit shows a lot of interest in him but she's never snapped or growled at our cat. She's very very shy. She is still learning to accept treats from people but only when they are tossed. We are still working on taking from the hand. She does not know any tricks yet. She's always well behaved. It's only when we're gone that she gets into mischief. She can be a lil naughty sometimes cuz she's a digger and steals clothes and remote controls and chews them up even though she has plenty of toys.... 😂😂 When I corner her so I can pick her up, she'll just make herself small but will let you pick her up. She has never growled or barked in a menacing way. She wants to be loved but doesn't know how to react to it.... yet. She's a sweetheart and playful with other pups. It's people she's more scared of. She's ok cuddling for a bit when you can catch her. She's not yet good at going on walks, but we're working on it!'' Biscuit is doing well and making slow and steady progress in her foster home. She is sweet, docile, and observant. In her element, Biscuit is also playful, inquisitive, and engaging. We would love to see her in a forever home that can provide her with stability so Biscuit can build up confidence and eventually blossom! If you'd like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Meet Canela! This pup is perfect for anyone looking for a sweet, quiet, and lowkey little love to add to their family. This 4-year-old Beagle/Doxie mix came to The Barking Lot from our rescue partner based in Tijuana. She was abandoned at a local veterinary clinic there. Her so-called owner had brought her in for a bath, then left her there and never returned to get her. He gave a false name and phone number so he could not be reached. The vet did not have the heart to send Canela to the dog pound, so she stayed at the vet clinic for almost a year before she got her chance to come to San Diego in search of a forever home. Canela was already a shy girl to begin with, add that to being boarded for so long without regular socialization with the greater world means she needs some extra time to get used to her surroundings. We thought a stint in foster will improve her chances of adoption, and we're happy to share that she is making fantastic progress! Canela is very comfortable in her crate and enjoys napping in there with the doors open while her foster parents are at work during the day. Aside from 1 accident on the first day (which is very common in new environment for any dog), Canela appears to be housebroken and keeps to a regular potty schedule 3 times a day. She is a quiet and low-maintenance gal who also happens to be quite treat-motivated. She has already learned ''go to your crate'' and runs straight in there on command after returning from walks, where she'll be sitting pretty and expecting her treat! Canela shies away from human touch on instinct, but she has gotten better now that she is settling in. Her foster parents make her sit with them on the couch to watch TV at night a couple nights a week, and she is now comfortable enough to curl up and nap in between them. Canela gets along great with other dogs and cats alike. She can be scared of bigger or more rambunctious dogs at first, but she relaxes once she gets a chance to get to know them. Canela is a petite gal weighing just 12 pounds. She hasn't show much interest in toys so far, but she does love a good raw hide stick to chew on! Canela is looking for a home that can provide her with some stability and patience so she can continue to blossom out of her shell! If you're interested in meeting Canela, please visit our website to fill out an adoption application. www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Meet Capricorn! Capricorn is a sweet and gentle Soi Dog who was rescued by our partner rescue Soi Dog Foundation. She flew to us all the way from Thailand, and due to her shyness, we thought she would enjoy a stint in a foster home. Turns out, we were right! Capricorn is doing very well in a home environment. She is completely housebroken, likes going on walks, loves treats, and enjoys sleeping in the bed. Capricorn gets along very well with other dogs, and currently shares her foster home with 2 other dogs. She is shy around new people, so it does take a little bit of time to get to know her. However, once she opens up, she is a very loyal and loving girl. She also has a fun-loving and silly side to her. When she gets excited for walks, she will do a bunch of play bows in anticipation. Capricorn enjoys playing with soft toys, and her favorite is a stuffed moose. Occasionally she would steal a sock and hide it in her bed for safekeeping. Capricorn was estimated to be born in July 2012, and she is a great medium size of about 35-40 pounds. If you would like to give Capricorn a forever home, let us know!If you'd like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below.
